I guess if that is the way to go then best to go for it sooner rather than later

Am here if you need me

Lilyloo · 02/09/2009 11:19

Hey all back from hols so need to catch up with you all.

H back at school and L goes next Monday so hopefully get back into some normal routine!!!

Gingeme · 02/09/2009 11:58

Lillyloo routine is good
JKS keep strong and lots of positive vibes from the gingeme household too x
Simpson how is M after her youghurt?
A better night last night thank goodness. George woke about 2.30 wanting to come into our bed I persevered with keep laying him down every time he got up. He got the message after about half an hour
Peeing down with rain today so having a day indoors for a change.

LaTrucha · 02/09/2009 13:36

JKS - sounds like a tough but positive day. How will you manage with T if they do admit him for surgery? Glad they seem to be agreeing withyour observations about meds. Thinking of you?

Lilyloo- Hiya!

Simpson - how's you internet?

Gingeme - Gald you got a better night's sleep.

Went to the hospital to get my 'broken' hearing aid fixed after checking it about a squillion times. As soon as I got in, it started working so a bit .

I feel a bit sad because of something that happened in the walk-in clinic waiting room. When I arived there were two people ahead of me, they went in and four more people arrived. Bear in mind that most people in heraing clinics are over 80. We had been waiting quite a long time and it was getting hard work ewntertaining Sabela and nowhere for her to play or walk. When the doctor came out and said, 'Who's next' an elderly man got up. I said, 'I'm sorry. I think I was next,' which he disputed. I then said, 'Well, I'm sure I was but you go ahead,' in a not very impressed tone at which point he said, 'Oh, I'm sorry I thought you were waiting for someone else.' Because I'm younger than most I suppose. I said, 'That's ok, don't worry' and such like.I feel bad because I could have been politer. Do you think I was rude?

mixedmamameansbusiness · 02/09/2009 13:48

JKS - big big hugs and eveyrthing from the Mixed household too. We are here if you need us. I live and work close by and I know you probably wont want to leave the hospital at all just shout if you want a coffee or anything.

LaT - I dont think you were rude, but can see why the misunderstanding happened.

Lily - agree we are ready for some more routine in our house. Nursery starts tomorrow.

Gingeme - I saw the pics of Barristermums little one, she is truly lovely. Was good to see them doing so well.

LaTrucha · 02/09/2009 14:34

I've just put my first item to sell on ebay and am shaking in my boots in case I forgot something.

Washing machine has broken and we've not even had delivery of our new tumble dryer yet

And we need a new hob

On that note, would you go for a ceramic, or just a normal electric hob? Ceramic is twice the price.

DH has vetoed me having gas because I get sidetracked by playing whilst I am cooking ATM.

LaTrucha · 02/09/2009 14:35

Do you think it's manky to use a previously used envelope for an ebay item? I don't mind but do you think it might affect feedback?

mixedmamameansbusiness · 02/09/2009 14:49

I think it would be ok LaT as long as it wasnt in really bad condition.

Gingeme · 02/09/2009 16:18

LaT as long as the envelope isn't too 'manky' re hob I wish I had got a normal electric hob with my cooker. Ceramic hobs never seem to look clean to me nightmare not having a washing machine or dryer. I think I would be in tears
Mixedmamma seems a funny day to be starting back at nursery! Davids back to school on Monday. My rl friends lo starts back on Friday
Pleased to say George is much more himself today and eating better too
Had a day at home and I got lots done

Housemum · 03/09/2009 13:20

LaT - don't think you were rude, just firm. It was the fact he disputed it - if he'd just stood up as he thought you were just waiting, then he should have just sat down straight away when you said you were actually next.

EBay - I often re-use packaging and have never had bad feedback. I just make sure it is well taped up and put the new address label over the old address.

DD2 back at school today - house still busy though as DH worked from home this am and DD1 doesn't start college till next week. She's doing 4 AS levels, hoping to continue into 3 or 4 A levels (one day I'll understand this, AS levels didn't exist when I was at school!)

Thanks to Gingeme for mentioning blood - reminded me that there is a session today so I can head off there after school (and it amuses me that I will be sitting for my cuppa after with my vampire novel!!)

LaT - I always hated electric hobs so have no opinion either way. I guess that you don't have mains gas in the same way as UK though? I don't think there is any big advantage to ceramic to justify the double price though, and don't you need to take more care re how you clean them?

LaTrucha · 03/09/2009 14:40

Well, we're £550 poorer today thanks to new hob (I did go for ceramic mainly out of curiosity), washing machine and winterweight sleeping bags.

On the plus side the fab local company we bought the electrical things from took about two hours from purchase of the machine to deliver and install it. Now we have to stop Sabela playing with the dial

Had friends round to play and for lunch and I think I can say I make a good spaghetti bolgnese as everyone apart from me had THREE helpings

I do like a nice hot lunch

Gingeme · 03/09/2009 15:00

Well done on the blood donation housemum
LaT yum I just love spag boll. My absolute fave. I hope the hob was worth it
I have started a thread on toys and age. Have a look if you want. I'm not getting slated this time. Phew! x

JustKeepSwimming · 03/09/2009 17:31

Hi all just to keep you updated & thanks for all positive vibes

Hardly any sleep last night, think my brain was on hyper-mode too!

H had plenty of clusters of spasms for them to see so that was good.

His wires were taken off this morning and he's had a CT scan as well to try and rule out Tuberous Sclerosis (which i had been avoiding reading about as sounds nasty) - they want to see if it's there, won't change treatment as such but could be genetic with implications for all the rest of us?
We should know that soon, maybe even today/tomorrow.

He has also started weaning off the Trileptal and should be totally off that asap.

He has started on Vigabatrin (i can't say it properly!) and that could poss have a good effect on his spasms whilst we wait for surgery.

He will definitely have surgery, and almost definitely before Christmas, in the next few weeks very likely.
The GOSH MRI showed a clearer pic than the previous one and wasn't entirely fab news.

He has a clear lesion on his right temporal lobe, about the size of a cherry tomato.
He also has widespread 'abnormality' in the rest of the right temporal lobe and 'possibly' in his right occipital lobe.

So they are calm about it and plan to do a TOP - 'Temporal Occipital Parietal disconnect' (i think, may have got that wrong). they will remove most of his temp. lobe (to gain tissue for research and to leave space for swelling) & disconnect the rest + occip. lobe from the rest of the brain so it has a blood supply but no electrical activity.
(i'm not 100% sure why they leave it?)

In the meantime, we are hoping for a slight improvement from the viga. and maybe even to 'see' some developmental things that are currently hiding to give us hope that they are there.

Oh, a poss negative side-effect from the surgery is some loss of sight in the left-visual-field. we are like, 'we'll take that, that's fine!'

lots more talking to be done i'm sure, for now we are knackered and just waiting for big pile of drugs so we can go home for a week.

back as an outpatient next week to review how the drugs are going.

back sometime after that to meet surgeon

then surgery.

sorry, really disorganised post, v tired!

Housemum · 03/09/2009 17:38

OMG you sound so "with it" for someone having to deal with all that. I hope that the surgery goes even better than expected. Will have everything crossed for you then.

Gingeme - been to do the blood thing now, up to 22 donations (well, it might be more but they lost my records between 1999 and 2001!) Picked up a "give blood" window sticker too - that should put the Jehovahs off next time they come knocking (I have no problem with different religions,it's just their refusal to give/accept blood even if it would save their own child that makes me angry)

Off to sneak another chapter of Breaking Dawn, think DH will be pleased when I've finished these Twilight books as then the housework might get done!

Gingeme · 03/09/2009 17:53

Well done to you JKS. DH and I were talking about you and your situation last night. We all wish you tons of luck and best wishes.
Housemum I have a Give Blood Sticker on the window of mt front door. Unfotunatelt I still get JW's knocking
Have had another quietish day today. Popped to Tesco this morning.
Thanks for posting on my toys thread

LaTrucha · 03/09/2009 19:59

Sending you lots of hugs JKS.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 03/09/2009 20:34

Just came on to say thinking of you JKS.

JustKeepSwimming · 03/09/2009 22:00

Housemum - i loved the twilight series, did nothing else until i finished them!

G - tis odd about the toys thing, never really thought about it...

Having a takeaway with dh + wine + chocolate! H fast asleep in buggy when they came in, nothing was going to wake him up!
Hope he's not up too early tomorrow.

Lilyloo · 04/09/2009 09:54

Wow a lot to take in JKS hope you got a lie in today!
At least you know what you are dealing with and can prepare yourselves for the surgery now you know it's happening.
Big hugs from here!

Just sorting L last bits ready for school on Monday today. Her reception teacher has been off this week though and the few reception children who have started got a letter saying they will be having a new teacher so not sure what has happened there hopefully new teacher will be there from Monday!

Gingeme · 04/09/2009 11:58

Morning ladies
JKS what hospital are you in? Great Ormond Street?
Lillyloo I remember Davids teacher being a bit like that in reception. He just got used to her and she went back to Australia Shame cause she was lovely.
His teacher in year 1 is called Mrs Rose. Nice and easy to remember. Her sister teaches at the school too and ds2 had her and said she was the best teacher he had ever had. I hope David has her too at some point
Just been sorting out my linen cupboard. Sorted out the thready towels and put two baby blankets aside for my friend who is due in 4 weeks.
Going to visit my Dad later after the lo's have had their nap.
I hope everyone and their lo's are keeping well.

JustKeepSwimming · 04/09/2009 12:49

Lily - not too bad H woke after 6. apparently T has been waking later and later at PIL, 7am this morning & !!!
We are going to separate the boys when we get home i think, lots of reasons, but mostly to see if they stop waking each other up in the mornings!
thanks for the hugs
Sounds confusing about the teacher?
bet she's looking forward to starting now though (and you too!)

Simps - you able to get on here yet? when does J start/has he started by now?

Gingeme - yes at Great Ormond St. they are mostly fab. a few hiccups here and there re paperwork and sorting drugs though.
eg: they've sent us home with the new drug in tablet form which we are meant to crush and mix with water. but no crusher thingie.
just spoke to pharmacist round the corner and he was v confused at change (they were mixing sachets of powder with water in hosp) and recommended i see GP asap to get some sachets.
have bought a crusher for the weekend anyway.
you are the Queen of Sort Outs

well a few hours peace while H sleeps and before Dh gets back with T, have laundry/ironing & lying on the sofa with book to do!
