OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MistergodthisisSal · 15/08/2009 21:12

Thanks, Suze. I'm going complete my honors degree that I should have done ages ago (hopefully by Jun next year), and also going to complete ACCA. I still have a couple of subjects to go - should have finished last year, but got lazy when Roelof was a baby. So the plan is to complete all those by the end of next year at the latest.

E's (ex) nursery sounds lovely. Great to have good babysitters on tap too! What are you doing tonight?

Had a nice day here. We went over to a friend's for lunch, which was really lovely as her little boy is about the same age as R. Then went to Bluewater to buy R some clothes, as he seems to have outgrown all his! Found some lovely things in Baby Gap and John Lewis - and most of it marked up to half price (I was looking mostly for summer stuff in preparation of our SA trip as well as now).

LadyBee · 15/08/2009 21:59

ooh, Suze, you use Sitters then? I looked long and hard at them recently but chickened out and moved my 'date' to a time when my childminder was available instead

I went shopping today too, and had the best luck . I'm having a dress made for the wedding, but being a bit slack left it quite late. It's being made in the USA, so I'm quite nervous about it getting caught in customs or a postal strike etc. Anywaaaaaay, during the dress trying-on mission I'd tried on some ready-made dresses at monsoon too and found something I liked. Popped into the store today and there was my dress, in my size, with no faults, on sale for £67!!!! I bought it, and now feel much better knowing I have a back up in case of disasters. Will ebay if I don't need it.

I think I've also sorted a veil/hat thing so now I just need shoes. And shoe shopping is something I can do without trauma.

We leave on the 1st Oct - have so much to do before then and I'm well and truly terrified of the flight to NZ with an 18 month DS. He does one thing for 4 minutes tops. What are we going to do?

MistergodthisisSal · 15/08/2009 22:28

Oooh, that's brilliant, Ladybee!!! And wow, even if you don't use it, you'll prob make a profit on ebay.

Hmm, the flight. Well, at least half of it would prob be ok. I haven't done that far, but our Peru travel time was about 18 hours all in plus an hour in taxi, and it wasn't as bad as I thought - actually, because I feared it would be horrendous, I found the going there fine, tbh. R slept most of the way (no drugs), and was happy with a combination of lots of little toys. Silly things - he was amused for ages when we gave him three plastic airline glasses! Take Calpol / Neurofen with in case needed. Dh is flying with you, right? If so, take turns sleeping when ds's awake. It helps if you're not over tired yourself.

LadyBee · 15/08/2009 23:19

Yes, thank goodness this time it's not a solo flight. Ugh, can only imagine what kind of hell that would be.

I'm starting to collect ideas for little toys etc that might entertain him. My latest one is a mini scribbler thing, as he loves pens and paper but this would be re-usable and less potential for mess. I'm trying to train him to like tv too so that we can load some episodes onto our iPods for him to watch if there's nothing on the inflight that catches his attention. Charlie and Lola is the current favourite, but he prefers the book we have to the show

MistergodthisisSal · 16/08/2009 00:05

That just made me laugh! Can you imagine all the snobbish "my child will never watch tv" moms hearing your tv training story! Heart attacks across the board, haha. Oh yes, one thing - R used dh's PSP - you don't by any chance have one that you could take with? Scribbler sounds perfect. A friend of mine said she always takes balloons with when she travels with her toddler, as it takes no space in your handbag, but can provide a lot of fun. I wasn't sure how well that would go down on plane though, but might be worth it whilst waiting for the flight?

SuzeMcG · 16/08/2009 03:46

yep, use Sitters ... we only go out about once a month so it's kinda easier to use an agency. However, now we can get one of the lovely girls to come earlier in the evening if we want to go to a show or something, and feel confident E might go to bed w/o us there.

When are you guys meeting? Would love to meet you but feel bad as I am a sporadic poster.

MistergodthisisSal · 16/08/2009 10:37

Suze, you have to come, please! Would be so lovely to meet you in person. Next Saturday (22nd). Can't remember exactly what time - will need to confirm, but I think it's 11am ish. Oh, and we're all sporadic posters these days (except when I get obesessed with name changes ).

MyMamaToldMe · 16/08/2009 13:59

Wow - so much has happened since I was last on here! (BTW - it is MommyHasaHeadache here - name changed - seems it's all the rage now! )

Scorps - I am so sorry my lovely - I have no words to describe how I felt for you when I read what you wrote. In your words I have only one word to decribe what I think of you DH though - 'knobber!' I admire your strength and determination - and hope that everything turns out okay. Also - YAY - I was right - another little girlie!! A wee bit envious I have to say!

Suze/Sal - while the both of you are packing up work, I am still on the hunt for a job - I'm really starting to worry how I will cope if you 2 didn't? Sigh... wish I didn't have to work.

So yeah - just checking we are still meeting up next week? I was also invited to a hens party that day (lol - no, not yours LadyBee), but have declined. But, I am only going to be able to stay for an hour or two as it is my DSIL and my nephews last day here before they fly back to Dubai.

MistergodthisisSal · 16/08/2009 15:06

Hey MyMamaToldMe - love your new name btw!

Yep, I'm definitely still game for next week. Are you bringing G?

Re jobs. Don't worry. Firstly, something will come up. And then secondly, once you've got it, it'll be fine, I'm sure. It probably depends how you feel at that moment. Whilst I found the first couple of weeks quite hard, I also found it really good for my self esteem to be doing what I knew I did really well again (am world's worst housewife - sorry dh!) It was / is great to be part of this "other" world again, and to almost have 2 types of friends - those in the same situation personally (ie with children), and then those I shared professional discussions with (even though might have kids too, I kind of kept work and private apart as far as possible). So all in all, I think my life is richer now than it was before. Hmm - what I'm trying to say in my rambling way: Once over the initial weeks, I loved working again. It's just that it doesn't really fit in in my life right now, as I can't do the hours and stress whilst also wanting to do and finish other things (ie not wanting to study at weekends as that's my R time). You'll only know how you'd feel when you're actually there, so don't feel negative in advance - you might love it. I loved most of it for the last 8/9 months, if it helps.

Little annoyed with MN at the mo - think I might only stick to this forum for the time being (well, not that I post much on others, but will not bother at all now). It's weird, it's not even really affecting me, as a postnatal thread is obviously never going to be a DM article, but I'm annoyed because of the way it's all been treated. Little rant over.

bunnyrabbit · 17/08/2009 10:58

Hi back from hols. No time to catch up properly on the last few weeks but but hope all is well.

Scorps what a shit! But so lovely about the bubba....

Ideas for travel amusements

  • aqua draw (you can get little ones and the take up very little room and it's only water so no mess)
  • Bubbles (endless fun)
  • Stickers

Gotta run...

BR

paranoidmummy · 17/08/2009 12:23

Just checking in to say hello...

scorpio - i have only skim read but you poor thing, i hope you are ok. i hope he realises what a Runt he has been and that he makes up to you big time. On the other hand big congrats on the girlie

Lots going on here in the pm household, we have moved and ds2 had his op and was switched on 4 weeks ago. He is doing remarkably and already turning to his name and starting to say his first words. We were told this would take around a year so he really has been amazing. It brings tears to my eyes as I write it! DD due in 5 weeks and still no name and still haven't settles on vba2c or c section, ah well she'll get here one way or another

Hope everyone is well, i do lurk often to see how you are all doing i am just pants at sitting down and posting!

EllieG · 17/08/2009 13:06

Hey everyone!
Am back from hols and just catching up on news - hurray for sal on giving up job - am very jealous and think is great. And well done on the weight loss - I think I have gained 6 pounds on holiday, perhaps that's where yours is

scorps - god, what a time you've had. Well done for coping, hope your gay man helped and bit. You know where we are for ranting and support and un-MNetty hugs x

Is it 11.00 at Giraffe on sat? Everyone is defo coming aren't they? I don't want to be all alone....

Scorps · 17/08/2009 14:12

Hmmmmm, i had swabs on Thursdsy and still havent heard anything - give it another day or so?

Thanks all, i'm trying to move on but finding it ver yhard. He drove an hour to her, from our house, (and hour back) and didnt once stop or turn back, despite apparently thinking of me. That is just unbelievable. I honestly think im just waiting until next time. I'm going to take him to the cleaners if he ever does it to me again. I just cant believe he did it, i just dont understand.

Bump growing well, kicking alot.

KnitterInTheNW · 17/08/2009 14:13

Hi everyone!

This might be a short post, G has been asleep for nearly 4 hours and will surely wake up soon! He's not been very well - chesty cough and a bit hot. Blooming doc said to call swine flu line to ask advise, but he has a chesty cough not a dry one. Doc won't see him til I've spoken to them, and I have too much to do rather than sitting on hold for hours. I'll wait til tomorrow now, he seems to be getting better, if he's not any better by tomorrow I'll call.

We had a lovely time in Leicester, but my great auntie is very poorly and we're basically just waiting for the call from the hospital to say that she's no longer with us. I went to visit her last week and she was ok-ish in that we had a bit of a conversation and she was mostly cohearant (sp), but she's gone downhill since and rarely even knows that anyone is there when they visit. My 2 aunties got called to the hospital last night and we thought that maybe it was the end, but they just said that she's very very poorly and they've stopped all her meds apart from painkillers to keep her comfortable, and they're trying to get her onto a side ward so that we can visit 24/7 now. Mum and dad had come back to Warrington with us to help with getting ready to move to the new house, but they've just gone back again. I don't want to see her like that, when I saw her last she was very frail but at least we had a nice chat and I'd rather remember her like that. She doesn't know who anyone is now anyway, if she did I'd prob go.

Anyway... Saturday!

Yes, Giraffe on SouthBank, 11am. G and I are going to the station this afternoon to pick up our train tickets. Very excited, and pleased of something nice to look forward to. Do come, Suze!

OP posts:
Scorps · 17/08/2009 14:16

Knitter sorry to hear of your aunty . My Nan died of motor neurone disease, and i saw her the day before she died, and thats all i remember now, not much of her before, iyswim. Its nice sometimes to preserve the memory of her, not her illness.

Jealous of the meet up. My Dad has realised what a state im in - Mum and me are going to a spa for the night on Saturday

EllieG · 17/08/2009 15:04

That'll be lovely scorps, you could do with a break.

WOooooo for meetup! How will I recognise anyone though? Is ladybee coming?

VeeEsss · 17/08/2009 21:23

Oh goodness, just reading through the thread quickly I realised I never sent you that VBA2C stuff PM!

Drop me an email at fan-fkn-tastic at hotmail dot co dot uk if you still need the stuff. Sorry!

LadyBee · 17/08/2009 22:41

ladybee is coming to the meet up but only for a very short amount of time, sorry...but I'll be there early so will look out for lost-looking people.

ParanoidMummy - so nice to hear your news, it sounds like DS is doing so well, it must be exciting to see the developments and hear him responding to your speech. That's remarkable. I can't even imagine how that feels.

I have to go and do a quick whip around the bathroom, we're going out tomorrow night and I need to clean before the babysitter is here (worse than a cleaner )

Knitter, I'm sorry to hear about your great-aunt.

Thanks for the tips BR!

MistergodthisisSal · 17/08/2009 23:20

Hello to everyone back from your holidays! Nice to see you again.

Paranoidmummy, I'm so relieved and glad for you and ds! It's brilliant news.

Ellie, not to worry - I'm convinced I've picked all the lost weight up already, even though I haven't uhm, really, cheated. Oh well, at least not adding I guess... Damn, wish I didn't like food exactly as much as I do!

Ah Knitter, sorry to hear about your aunty. Is as you say though - you spent some good time with her. Thinking of you.

Whoo Scorp, spa day! Wish my mom was closer so that we could do things like this together! Hope you have a marvellous time.

It's nice to see so many people on here today, it's like old times! Now no-one dare go on holiday again!

We're going to Pearl Jam concert tomorrow night. Rather excited!

VeeEsss · 18/08/2009 11:09

Pearl Jam?
Wow!! sounds fun.

EllieG · 18/08/2009 12:42

I am going to see Priscilla musical on fri, but not sure that's as cool as Pearl Jam

EllieG · 18/08/2009 13:32

And I think I might take DSD to see the Take That musical tomorrow night cos it's coming to Jersey! Woo!

MistergodthisisSal · 18/08/2009 20:22

Oh brilliant, Ellie! Busy week ahead for you!!

VS, yep, I'm really excited. They're about to start any time now - warm up act just left.

Scorps · 19/08/2009 11:32

I must admit i dont even know what/who Pearl Jam are. Take That musical though, i can deal with

As im sure you all want to know about my fanjo, screening results today all clear. So he either didn't, used a condom or didnt use one and is the luckiest twat sod alive.

Am feeling slightly less hateful of him. Parents are helping me emotionally alot, bless them. He is behaving and not even farting unless i say so, iyswim.

hang on g2g mimi falling asleep on floor LOL

Scorps · 19/08/2009 11:42

she fell asleep in the middle of the front room floor, dummy in mouth, watching beebies she is now in bed.

Boys are with Reilly's grandparents swimming and KFC , so kind of them to take Jamie too i thought!

Zac here on Friday, so 4 kids plus bump for me until school going back time .

I'm not having anymore babies htough, DH has put me off. I always chatted and wound him up about more, he always playfully said no, but when i told him no more cos of everythign this time, i think he was really sad and kind of realised more iyswim. My Dad spoke to him at work y'day, and said that he knows DH is sorry, and also confirmed some things i had wondered, that turned out to be true. Anyway, im offically Not Dwelling On It, for my own and dd2 sake.

Might go have early lunch am so hungry.
