good lord Scorps. She is persistent if nothing else.

Do you think your headaches are just pregnancy ones? I do recall having a few weeks with them, and suffering because no one told me I could take a paracetamol.

Had a lovely afternoon today at lunch with an old friend, sooo nice to chat and relax all afternoon. B was very good and put up with being mostly ignored.

SalLikesCoffee · 28/07/2009 22:24

Damn, just typed up a proper post there, and lost it.

A summary: Scorpio, you're a better person than I am. If I was all fired up with pregnancy hormones, someone might have got killed. Hmm, might still happen... So for what it's worth, I think you being (relatively) calm about this is seriously impressive.

But wrt the girl - yep, I'd be sorry for (d)h and all that, but it would be no fighting if this happens again. And get him to switch to your sim card when going out. There should be no reason for him not to want to do that. But then again, I do acknowledge that I am not the world's most easygoing person. Or so says dh, but I maintain that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

BR, good luck with DS2. Hope it's not that, but if so, hope he gets better soon.

I've got a really bad cold. Feeling extremely sorry for myself. I suspect I'm a man...

bunnyrabbit · 29/07/2009 09:37

Scorps - you are soooo restrained! You definitely deserve a sticker for being so calm and level headed.

Second LadyBee regarding the headaches. I had headaches with both DSs that went about 2 months after they were born. Hormonal me thinks, although the stress of the weekend can't exactly have helped.

Sal - not sure it is now altough he still has little bliseters on his bottom. It's a pain as I can't really visit my dad in hospital if DS2 is sick just in case

And no you are not a man. If you were you would be suffering from swine flu and need 24 hour care. You are most defnitely a lady as you have a cold. Sending mugs of hot honey, lemon and whisky your way...

Looking forward to hols on Saturday and then meeting you guys the weekend after I get back

BR

Scorps · 29/07/2009 15:11

Yep i deffo think they are pg headaches, they seem to go after one paracetemol but are very bad when i get them, to the point i feel like i cant see properly or stand! I'm fine today though. Took kids to soft play today, now relaxing on the sofa...not much to do in weather like this.

Scorps · 29/07/2009 20:02

What do you all think of Amber?

MommyHasaHeadache · 29/07/2009 20:41

Lovely name Scorps! What do you think of the 2nd name Rose - Amber Rose?

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO bored - I really need a job now. Had a taster last week for a few days - did a temp role, and now I am itching to get back!!

KnitterInTheNW · 29/07/2009 21:08

Oooo yes, love Amber!

SuperSoph73 · 30/07/2009 11:15

Hi there, just popping in while Sam's napping and Tom's watching TV. We're dog-sitting for friends at the mo but have popped home today as car has had to go into the garage to have a couple of things done before its first MOT tomorrow.

Have had quite a stressful time recently but will bore you all with the details some other time.

Sam had his MMR last week and seems to be OK. The nurse said that we should give him a chicken-pox vaccine in August but it's really, really expensive and as far as I'm aware he wouldn't necessarily suffer any worse with chicken-pox than any "normal" child, so I don't think we're going to give it to him. He also had a hearing test a couple of weeks ago and he's got slight hearing loss in both ears but can still hear so nothing needs to be done for now.

Tom's off to a birthday party tomorrow evening so he's really looking forward to that

Can't think of much else to report. It's great being at our friend's house as they have a cleaner that comes in 3 times a week so I haven't had to do much, it's bliss. I did think of driving her round to our house and getting her to do this shit hole wonderful abode

Well, have to go for now as Tom wants me to play a game, he's getting bored. Haven't read all your posts, but hope you are all well. I did see that you're still having probs with that bloody woman Scorps and hope that you can get things sorted with DH about it. Love the name Amber btw

Take care everyone and will catch up again soon. Soph xxxxx

EllieG · 30/07/2009 12:37

Hey all - just catching up.

scorps - well done you. Very retrained, I'd have been v cross too.

sal - hope you feel better soon

hello soph today

I am going on hols on sat! Whoopieeee!!! So excited. And when I get back the next weekend I am away in London! What an exciting month.

Might not get chance to post again before I go as work is scary busy so will see you all again soon, ta ta for now!

bunnyrabbit · 30/07/2009 15:03

Take care Ellie. I'll be on hols the same time as you so let's hope for some sunshine!!

SalLikesCoffee · 30/07/2009 18:30

Enjoy your holiday, Ellie!

How's ds2's bum today, BR? For some reason I always feel really really sorry for them when they've got sore bottoms - even "just" nappy rash in our case sometimes!

Scorpio, Amber sounds lovely.

Soph, I'd have hijacked the cleaning lady if I were you! Re chicken pox vax - yes, if it's only going to be same effects anyway, why not? To get it done just for the sake of if it's that expensive does sound a bit silly. So do you have to pay for all jabs privately?

I can tell you girls, but I'm not admitting it to anyone other than dh in real life: I'm on a serious diet since yesterday. It was planned before I got ill, but I'm now thinking it all worked out well, as I feel rubbish and can't taste much now anyway, so might as well go through those first 4 horrible days without feeling I miss too much! I want to lose 10kgs, but try not to get too fixed on the figure, as that sounds like the mountain it clearly is... Fancy some cheese now.

Scorps · 30/07/2009 19:01

Ellie you are having an exciting life!

MHaH - DH and i thought that as Amber is a precious stone thing and a Rose is obvioously from nature too that it might be a bit 'naturey' ...but i'm pleased Amber is oging down well (bet its a boy anway, lol)

Soph - hope you're ok, I agree WRT chickenpox, its mostly mild in every child i know and i dont really see why Sam would be different? Sorry to hear about his ears but still hearing is a good thing, will he need help with that at some age? You do amzingly well you know, with how busy your work is and Sam and everything (really hope you take it right, not being patronising, i mean that you are a very strong woman and to be admired)

Sal - a diet is a good step forward, my friend goes to Slimming World and eats well still, but the weekly check ins do help you focus, i bet being in London you could find one with a time to suit...you can take dc to meetings too apparently. (whispers - you can even do it whilst pg with their support). 10kgs is a lot to lose so be sensible and fit in some exercise.

When we have this baby im going to get some help...either send my washing out, or have a cleaner once a week or something. DH always works long hours and i kinda think i deserve it by now Mum has a cleaner so i may just nick hers for 2 hours a week or something - she could do beds, bathroom, fridge cleaning and ironing or summit.

Got the baby's crib today, and put it up and its so beautiful!

SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2009 09:11

Pics, scorp, pics!!!

I'm at home with a bad cold today - to be honest, not really ill enough not to get out of bed, but obviously with the whole SF thing companies are being careful and advising us to stay at home if bad colds. I've stayed in yesterday too, and think that another day taking it easy should be enough. Half my team seems to be ill too.

Now, I have one major problem... Since everyone's clearly busy out and about lately, you're not here now... So I am aware that I'm talking to myself! Sooooooo... get yourselves some rest and snap open those laptops! Pretty please.

Oh, I made some playdough for R yesterday - was quite fun, and I think it's nicer texture than his bought ones (which I've temporarily misplaced in the chaos that is my home!)

bunnyrabbit · 31/07/2009 11:04

I'm here just working on two laptops so will try to remember to keep saying hi!!

Making play dough! Now you're just showing off. We don't even have time to play with the tons of bought stuff we have and have never opened.

SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2009 11:36

Hey bunnyrabbit! :D

I'm at home yesterday and today, and couldn't get myself out of work mode yesterday, so think I drove the nanny mad...

Back to being good lazy old self today though - will have to snap out of it on Monday when back at work!

It's the easiest recipe in the world (from Mumsnet) - see here Honestly, really quick and easy.

bunnyrabbit · 31/07/2009 11:55

Hi Sal. You poor thing... [get well emoticon]

Hope you feel better for the weekend.

Thanks for the recipe. Problem is by the time I finish making this DS1 will have completely lost interest and DS2 will probably just eat it (mental note not to put glitter in if I do make it!).

Did R play with it nicely?

BR

SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2009 12:10

Well, I'm a bit of a Tea Tree Oil freak, so put a couple of drops of that in too. R tried to take a bite, and promptly spit it out! I also put in a couple of drops of vanilla and coffee essence to try and make it smell a little nicer (though, with my current stuffy nose situation, I have no idea if you can smell anything!)

Roelof liked it, and it's a little softer than the shop bought type, so I think easier for his little hands. (No big artist here - most of the time he just seemed to like pressing the dough whilst still in the bag!)

I had red, blue and yellow food colouring, so made red, orange, blue, green and yellow dough (kneading it through in the end)

KnitterInTheNW · 31/07/2009 13:21

No no no no no... there's a due April 2010 thread, it can't be so already!

Homemade playdough tip of the day: Use baby oil instead of cooking oil, makes it smell soooo much nicer!

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2009 13:29

Ah cool, that's a great idea, Knitter!

April 2010. How the time flies!

bunnyrabbit · 31/07/2009 14:27

Nice tips thank you ladies. Doesn't the food die bleed everywhere?

There can't be 2010 thread already.. OMG doe sthis mean my baby is not a baby anymore ?

BR

bunnyrabbit · 31/07/2009 14:28

Dye not die

SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2009 14:37

No, i broke off the size of dough that I wanted to colour, then flattened it on a chopping board that i've covered with clingfilm. Dripped food dye all over the flattened dough, then started folding the sides in, so that my hands would be pressing against the "undersides". I did wear disposable gloves (had rubbed some oil on to make them less sticky). Once the dye was kneaded through properly (by repeatedly folding outsides over - kind of how you would when kneading bread), it didn't give off at all anymore.

I know, I keep saying my "baby", then look at this chubby little boy running around full speed destroying anything of value in sight, and feel a little stab... For me, he'll always be my baby!

KnitterInTheNW · 31/07/2009 14:37

If only making one colour, it's easier to put a few drops of dye in the water before you pour it in the pan to mix it. If you want to make different colours like Sal did, I normally put cling film or kitchen foil over a chopping board to do the kneading on, so things don't get dyed. If you mean does the dye spread from the DCs playing with the dough, no it doesn't!

We'll be leaving playdough for a while longer, when they have it out at playgroup G just eats it still. Bleargh.

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 31/07/2009 14:40

Knitter, try adding a couple of drops of Tea Tree Oil. It's antibacterical, and if you've ever tasted it, you'll see why even R can't actually eat it! :D

KnitterInTheNW · 31/07/2009 14:43

Oh, and BR, did you have any luck with the FB thing?
