SuperSoph73 · 16/07/2009 15:35

Afternoon.

Well, have got the passport application sent away. Now just have to keep everything crossed that they can process it asap. Will go back to SS office on Mon to try and explain and hope that they let me reapply.

Am very of you all meeting up. Didn't dare have a look at the menu as I thought that if I did I'd probably start crying

EllieG · 17/07/2009 12:55

Yum have lovely home made bread sandwiches today....

soph glad you got passport sorted lady

KnitterInTheNW · 17/07/2009 14:06

lol, I'm imagining you sat there with a slice of home made bread between 2 slices of bread! Sorry, my sense of humour is a little odd at times...

OP posts:
Scorps · 17/07/2009 16:29

Wish i could make bread. Can cook pretty much anything else, bar cakes etc, although ive never tried and DH makes the apple crumbles in this house!!

LadyBee · 17/07/2009 17:18

oh poo.
Oh poo oh poo oh poo oh poo oh poo.

This week I got a mysterious invitation to something that I rather suspect is a surprise hen 'do'.

It is on the 22nd and I'm supposed to meet at 11:30am. Gah! It's so lovely that this is being organised for me but I wanted to meet youuuuuuuuu.

hmmm...you're not in on the plan are you? I may just have to insist we (whoever will be there) join you for a pink drink toast at least before we do whatever is lined up for me (it's all very secret). But that means BabyBee won't be with me .

KnitterInTheNW · 17/07/2009 20:07

Umm, can you not say you already have plans? Are there any other saturdays free before the wedding??????

OP posts:
LadyBee · 17/07/2009 20:21

Well, I could, because I do.
There are a couple of problems with that though, first I'm not totally sure who is organising it, although could guess, but if it is who I think it is, the chances are it's the only weekend this person is free as she works odd shift patterns that aren't flexible.
hmmm, I think I will have to drop an email and see whether it's possible to meet later to go on to whatever it is...I'm sure something will work out.

LadyBee · 17/07/2009 20:23

At least the place I'm meeting is in quick walking distance from Giraffe.

Maybe you could all come to the mystery meeting spot (I could out-surprise my surprisers!!!...oooohhhh I feel the hatchings of a plan )

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 17/07/2009 23:54

just nipping in to say speak to you all n 2 weeks

habve fun

EllieG · 18/07/2009 21:16

Have a nice trip peachy!

ladybee - what a predicament. But we will speak to you again if you cannot come to our meet up (after a while - I vote we ignore her posts for about a week first ). Maybe you could pop along for a drink with us and ask for your thing to start at say 12.30 or 1 p.m. instead?

KnitterInTheNW · 18/07/2009 21:47

Good idea Ellie. And if you wanted to bring BabyBee along to meet us, would your lovely DP come and pick him up when it's time to go to your mystery outing?

KnitterInTheNW · 19/07/2009 18:16

Ugh, waiting for the out of hours GP to call... G suddenly got a temp of 38.4 in one ear & 38.7 in the other, runny nose, been off his food yesterday and today. Could very well be teeth, but NHS direct site says to call them if the child is under 5 and has any of the flu-ey symptoms. He's not a happy bunny!

OP posts:
Scorps · 19/07/2009 19:20

Poor G it's prob an ear infection, its so nasty and they come on so quickly.

I'm getting so worried about SF. 3 Pg women have died from it now. DH is not going to greece as i think thats irresponsible of him. Please help calm me down or find me some good stats for Cornwall or something! Petrified something will happen to Smidge.

Denny185 · 19/07/2009 20:26

Dont know if its any help scorps but NCT are advising to avoid travel and places with lots of people (although doh website isnt)

Apparently a couple of kids from DD1 school have it, I knew it was in the area but not at her school - good time to break up I feel. We all have colds but colds not SF. I wonder how many reported cases r actually SF and not something else. The majority of diagnosis r being made over the phone with a check list that could be many other things too IYSWIM.

SalLikesCoffee · 19/07/2009 21:15

Any news on G's symptoms, Knitter? Hope all is good, and even though I never thought this would be a "just", I hope it's just an ear infection.

Scorpio, don't panic. Remember, even if you do get SF - I'm sure hundreds of pregnant women who also got it got over it fine. It's the single cases that freak us all out, understandably, but it is the exception. You'll be fine.

I'd probably have preferred him not to go away, so am all with you on that, but if he does, perhaps this would help: Outside of England (Peru, obviously), the SF precautions were so obvious - people working with the public wore masks (even check-in personnel, station personnel etc), and everywhere where a lot of people came together, there were helplines that you could call if you wondered about your symptoms, and doctors would come around immediately (free) and check. A lot of publicity of washing hands, tissues, not coughing openly etc etc. Also, at the airports they monitored people, and if you coughed etc (and the airline personnel also had to tell the doctors if someone looked ill during the flight) you were taken to the doctor's office first before you could enter the country. So i'm not saying it's not widespread, but I'm not convinced your chances of catching it is higher outside of London, for example, anyway. Mind you, if I had SF, i'd be pretty annoyed to find myself in china at the moment - isn't that where they actually quarantine you?

Weird how kids change you though. If it wasn't for R, i'd have preferred to catch it now. But you never know how kids would react, so I'm a little worried about it. But not taking him out of Friday nursery yet.

Oh, they have nits at nursery! Urgh urgh urgh. So far, he seems clean, luckily!

Can't wait for the meetup. I think I'm not going to bring R, as I'll go there straight from work. Ladybee, would be lovely if you could come for a quick one before your do.

KnitterInTheNW · 19/07/2009 21:27

We're back! The out of hours doc called and said to bring him for her to check over, she was concerned about how many children are just given the flu meds and actually it's something else wrong. Then if they DO get SF, the meds won't work because they already had them. I'm sure that's what she said. Got it in 1 Scorps, red ears and throat. G has antibiotics and is thankfully now back in bed fast asleep.

Sal, put some tea tree oil in the water that you rinse R's hair with after you've washed it... nits don't like it apparently.

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 19/07/2009 21:35

Oh that's good news, hope it starts working really quickly for him, Knitter.

And thanks SO much for the tea tree tip - I hate nits. Ewww. (remember nit infections at school a lot from when i grew up, at which stage it didn't bother me. being on the other side having to check though, a lot less fun!)

KnitterInTheNW · 19/07/2009 21:40

Am I going to be the only sober fool-with-a-child at the meet up then?

OP posts:
LadyBee · 19/07/2009 22:02

very good suggestions for the meet-up Ellie, will see what I can do about delaying meet time and also bring BabyBee in and then getting DP to take him home again..that could work nicely, just depends on how time-specific their plans are

Scorpio, I don't know what to say, I think in your shoes I'd be worried too, but all you can really do is make sure you keep washing your hands often, try not to be around lots of potentially sick people and keep a close eye on your and your DC's health.

I had a question to ask you and I've forgotten it.

nope. Can't remember. Talk amongst yourselves and maybe it'll come back to me.

SalLikesCoffee · 19/07/2009 23:38

Oh the suspense, and now I'd have to wait until tomorrow night to see!

Night, all.

bunnyrabbit · 20/07/2009 08:43

Morning all. Hope you all had a nice weekend. Sorry to hear G is under the waether. These things go through their bodies so fast though, hopefully he'll be feeling much better this morning, with a few doses of anti-Bs inside him.

Nits! My worse nightmare. We've managed to completely avoid them, only they have them at DS2's nursery and DS1 is also going there for holiday club! Arrgghh.

Took DS1 to get 'magic shoes' he is a size 5H! Not surprisingly they didn't have any in his size. They had to order and if he'd been half a size bigger he would have to go without cruisers as the don't make them bigger than a 5.

I've bred a mutant!

Regarding the meet up, I'm quite happy to meet earlier Ladybee, say 10.30 or 11 if you like as I will have to shoot off about 1 I'm afraid. I will definitely be bringing DS2 with.

BR

bunnyrabbit · 20/07/2009 08:47

Sorry, meant DS2 is a 5H not DS1!!!

EllieG · 20/07/2009 09:43

Hey ladies

Talking of swine flu - picked up Molly from nursery on fri and they said a baby in her room had been diagnosed with SW and by time I got homePublic Health called me and I had to take her to a clinic to get tamiflu cos she had had contact with this little boy when he was in. So she is taking it but is fine, though she doesn't like the taste at all and complains mightily.

Maybe we should meet up 11.30 then?

bunnyrabbit · 20/07/2009 10:01

Wow Ellie. Hope she's OK

KnitterInTheNW · 20/07/2009 11:54

It's all very very scary isn't it. Probably because I take too much notice of films like 28 days later

Poor Molly, fancy having to take horrid tasting medicine when you're not actually poorly.

G isn't too bad this morning, hates the taste of his anti-b's so I'n havubg to lie him back and force-suirt them in. I feel like a horrid mummy but know I'm actually being kind because he needs them.

11/11:30 sounds good to me, maybe 11 if BR has to whizz off? I don't know if I'd make it much earlier than that, 11 O'clock gives me 45 mins to get off the train and re-figure out the tube!

Are we booking, then?
