EllieG · 30/06/2009 15:50

Sal! Glad you are having a great time. I am extremely jealous, but pleased for you nonetheless

Work does suck, have just been paid and half of it goes to someone else to look after my baby, who I'd rather be with anyway.....boo

Molly is a 4.5 in feet, but she is a giant, so is only to be expected

SuzeMcG · 30/06/2009 18:43

Hi all,
Sal, glad you are having a great time.

We were in Dublin for a week and a half (yes Denny, it is very expensive!) seeing relatives. E enjoyed the attention but was not in good form for the last few days as she finally got her front teeth.

She has started at nursery. I left her for 30 minutes yesterday and she was fine, though seemed pleased to see me when I collected her. Today, she cried on and off the whole hour I was gone. The girls are lovely. They said that if someone held her she stopped crying, but as soon as they tried to get her to play, she cried until they picked her up again. I suppose it will take her a while to settle in.

Hope everyone is well.

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 30/06/2009 22:18

Ellie sounds hard. bas starts at a Cm next term for me to get a bit of sleep worke xperience in, and I know that as he is a bit shy it will be good (love our family CM0 but was offered the chance to go at a job today I know I could shine at (ta with sen comp kids) but can't get my head round it....

LadyBee · 01/07/2009 00:46

Peachy that job sounds good, is there anything in particular you're struggling to imagine?

Sorry to hear your DD is finding it hard to settle Suze, I expect it will take a while and if she's teething then she won't be in the best of moods to start off with. I've just realised what a difference it makes to DS's state of mind now that he seems to finally be over his latest teething episode - I suppose dealing with an underlying low-level pain or ache would make anyone feel a bit sorry for themself.

Give it time.

Work really does suck though, I've been day-dreaming about reducing my hours so that I'm on 3days instead of 4, but I don't think it's an option really. I just feel bad that my boy spends the majority of his days with my CM, brilliant and lovely as she is. I'm jealous of the time she spends with him

Ugh, and those trains. My only saving grace is that at least I'm generally getting one at 4:45, not 5:45, so is not so horribly crowded and normally get to sit all the way home.

Boy, Soph - that's a fab haircut. Did you think about colour too? I thought when I looked at your photo that you could go a bit darker with a short cut like that, would look v gamine. You look like you've lost weight, too. You been giving up the chips?

My day off tomorrow - hoorah! I won a silvercross stroller on eBay today and the seller is delivering it to me (how nice is that!) seeing she lives quite close. B now likes to sit up really straight and the one I've got at the moment is on a bit too much of a recline for him to seem comfortable. I'll keep the current one because I love it and am sure it'll be fine when he's grown a bit more. This one will be better for when we travel later in the year and will be good for at the CM too as it folds up smaller.

Hope our lovely pregnant mummies are doing well and not suffering in the heat too much.

Do we need to start thinking about the London meet up? Or is it too soon

KnitterInTheNW · 01/07/2009 08:20

Hi LadyBee, I'm overexcited too and hope we can start thinking about it v soon!

OP posts:
EllieG · 01/07/2009 09:17

Ooo I'm very excited too! ladybee - where do you think would be good to meet? We need somewhere with food and wine for alcoholics non-child-bringing mummmies but has to be baby-friendly for G and babybee if he is coming.

peachy - v exciting about job offer! Sounds right up your street. Is it work experience or paid?

Hey Suze and Denny - very of Dublin trips, have never been but would love to

SuperSoph73 · 01/07/2009 11:41

Morning all.

Had a fab time at water park yesterday. DS1 quite happily ate the packed lunch I made for him so had to nick someone elses chips

LadyBee - thanks, I have lost some weight but definitely haven't given up the chips. There are just some things you can't go without

Denny - aahh, bless your DH. I really really want an eternity ring but DH won't get me one. His reason being that his Grandad gave his Grandma one just before she died I have tried to explain that hopefully that wouldn't happen to me, but I don't think he's convinced.

Sal - am even more reading your posts. Hope the rest of your trip is just as fab

Sam has finished at nursery now for 2 whole months. My friend has got him today, tomorrow & Friday, along with DS1 on Friday as it's INSET. He's still wheezy & coughing like a goodun' but is a very happy chappy still.

SuzeMcG · 01/07/2009 14:52

Peachy, congrats on the job offer.

Soph, I like your hair.

Thanks Ladybee, hopefully next week she will enjoy it more. She went to nursery for a few hours this morning. She was tearful and wanted to be held again, she didn't want to get down on the floor and play. She wouldn't eat but slept for two hours. This weather wipes her out, she really is an Irish baby. She is in good form now so obviously isn't traumatised!

Ellie, I want to go to Jersey so maybe we can swap relatives for a while.

SuzeMcG · 01/07/2009 14:53

P.S. She is having a late lunch of cod mornay and has smeared it all over her hair, face, clothes and a magazine that I stupidly left within her reach! Lovely.

SalLikesCoffee · 01/07/2009 18:37

Good morning. Lovely day here, I can't believe our holiday is almost over. Bunnyrabbit, you're so right - already I just want to stay here and live off papayas and bananas!

Suze, good luck with E. I bet you it'll be fine soon - it's just all a bit new for them. Soon you'll be forgotten and you'll miss these times! (Says she who's jealous of R's time with nanny often on occasion.)

Peachy, congrats on the job offer!

Re meetup - I can't wait either! It will be so cool to see Ladybee again and meet the rest of you! Anyone else coming that came before?

I've uploaded photos on Facebook if anyone's interested. Will do flickr later, but could only persuade dh that we had to sit around long enough to do one option now!

R runs EVERYWHERE, and loves stairs. Of which there are thousands in Peru. Next baby, I'm waiting until he/she's 13 years old (at least) before I teach them to walk...

Have to run.

LadyBee · 01/07/2009 23:24

Visited baby clinic today as B had been asked to come back for a MMR booster - there is measles in the area apparently. While I was there I asked the HV about symptoms of chickenpox as apparently B was exposed to someone who was in the incubation period and I have no clue what to look out for.
HV was very good telling me about when contagious and what to do if he gets them, but was very vague about what it was like when they get them so am now completely paranoid about all the little red spots he's developed recently (probably heat rash/reaction to sunscreen/result of smearing himself with tomato or pineapple). I'm assuming that the babies actually seem sick before the spots arrive, yes? Or do they just arrive out of nowhere?

Where are people coming from? Ellie, you're staying with sister - where? Knitter you arriving at Euston? Kings Cross?

Suze, sorry if you've already said, my memory is appalling - is she starting nursery because you're going back to work or just for the experience/socialisation etc? I just wondered whether if you had any gut feeling about whether it's the right time for her or if there isn't any option. It just occurred to me that despite us all saying 'it'll get better' that if there is any option and you're worried about it, I think that you shouldn't feel you have to persist. Maybe even consider a quieter childminding situation - if that's an option. She might feel happier with less noise and and just the one carer to get to know?

Right, I need inspiration for a 1st B'day present for a little girl. Did anyone get given anything that they thought was particularly fab?

EllieG · 02/07/2009 08:52

Cute clothes. Or Molly got a great little drum/zylaphone (sorry for spelling) set. Oo and a great little early learning noah's ark that she loves.

Do you think Molly will ever sleep properly? Is beginning to get me down a bit.

bunnyrabbit · 02/07/2009 10:45

LadyBee, DS1 had chicken pox when he was tiny and to be honest we didn't know until the spots came out and he was absolutely fine. But each child is different. If it is chicken pox then they'll be more like little blisters than just raised bumps. Has he been grumpy at all?

Ellie, have you posted on the sleep threads at all?

BR

SuzeMcG · 02/07/2009 10:55

Ladybee, hope BabyBee doesn't get chicken pox. I thought E had it a while ago but GP said it was a viral rash.

Presents - we got E a dog puppet and she loves it.

Ellie, if it is any consolation (it probaby isn't!), E has woken at 3am for the last 3 nights for a drink. I hope she will stop this annoying new trend when the weather cools down.

I am going back to work. If she doesn't settle after a few weeks I will look at a childminder. We often go to soft play centres, Gymboree and that kind of thing, and she is normally very confident so I think it is just the change of scenery, and not being with me as she normally is.

SuperSoph73 · 02/07/2009 11:40

Morning all. Well, last day of term for the kids - we have to come in tomorrow unfortunately. Library is looking a bit bare now as I've just taken most of the stuff off the walls. Poor DH is clearing out his office for this new guy I won't be able to walk past his office now & just pop in when I want

Anyway, enough of that. We're off down to the south of the island on Monday for a week to hopefully relax and swim and eat However, saying that the weather is really horrible today so it better buck up otherwise I'll be seriously peed off!

SuzeMcG · 02/07/2009 12:09

Have a great holiday Soph!
I think we have your weather. ;)

bunnyrabbit · 02/07/2009 12:18

Must be quite sad seeing your library all stripped of its glory.

I'd happily swap working in an air-conditioned office whilst it's 30 odd outside for holidaying in the rain if you'd like

BR

EllieG · 02/07/2009 12:24

Oo have a lovely time soph! Am very jealous, despite rain.

Might try posting on sleep threads but tbh, not sure anyone can tell me anything I don't know, if that doesn't sound conceited. I really don't know how I can do anything differently, so think will just have to wait for her to grow out of it. Heat at night isn't helping to be fair.

SuperSoph73 · 02/07/2009 12:44

Thanks suze

Ellie - hope it all sorts out soon, I'm sure the weather isn't helping.

BR - come with us

Now, I don't mean to brag (not much LOL) but have I got gorgeous boys or what?!

bunnyrabbit · 02/07/2009 12:56

Please don't, I shall start blubbling......

Sorry, in my 'life is a bitch' phase a the mo... missing my boys.

KnitterInTheNW · 02/07/2009 13:08

Oh Soph, you really do have gorgeous boys! I can't get over how grown up DS1 is looking, and I love the smiley Sam ones but especially love the 'pose 1' one, he looks as though he's flirting outrageously with someone!

I'll be arriving into Euston, and I think Ellie said her sis lives in Highgate.

Ellie, sorry to hear you're still having Mol sleep problems. Umm, could you write down exactly what you do from after tea until the next morning with her, and we could suggest things to try that have worked/not worked for us but worth a try? The heat def isn't helping at the mo. George is going to bed in nappy and short PJs, and keeps getting arms and legs stuck through the bars of his cot because he has no sleeping bag to help stop it!

We're off on holiday on Saturday for a week too, to Anglesey. Fingers crossed for fine but slightly cooler weather. We're taking the laptop, so may be able to pop on occasionally.

OP posts:
SuperSoph73 · 02/07/2009 13:36

Oh sorry BR, didn't realise

Knitter - I know, DS1 seems to get more grown up by the day!

bunnyrabbit · 02/07/2009 13:40

Thanks .. sorry didn't mean to off load but sometimes it all gets a bit much.

Feeling miserable is no excuse for not commenting on the edible looking children you have produced!! I seem to remember already offering to baste your youngest for no fee as long as I get the chunky thighs!!

KITNW, ooh lovely very hope it's a gorgeous 23 degrees with a nice soft summery breeze.......

KnitterInTheNW · 02/07/2009 13:52

That weather sounds perfect to me, BR!

I took so long to type my last post that I didn't see yours - didn't want you to think I was being an unfeeling old cow and ignoring you in your time of need! You're allowed to blub and moan and vent and bend our ears as much as you like, that's what we're here for. And don't apologise!

OP posts:
bunnyrabbit · 02/07/2009 14:46

hey don't be silly, not at all. Thanks for the ice cream. Need virtual treats as I'm not allowed real ones as being good. Have just gone out and bought a shapers bar and eaten it in 2 seconds. Managed to miss the afternoon trolley with the ice creams on on purpose.

Just hating being at work full-time especially with the holidays coming up. It wouldn't be so bad if I liked my job. So many fun things going on in the hols and we won't get to do any of them. I think the boys are missing out and it's my fault. I'll get over it.
