Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SuperSoph73 · 02/07/2009 14:57

BR ROFL .... no, you may not baste my baby .... although I can completely understand why you would want to

Anyway, you're supposed to vent & whinge & have a go on here, it's compulsory isn't it????? Sorry that you're not enjoying being at work. Being off during the hols is the only perk of working in a school. Are you having any time off during the hols?

bunnyrabbit · 02/07/2009 15:14

Yep. 2 weeks in Southwold (my spiritual home) on the east coast. 1st week in a tent, 2nd week in a bungalow - cue frantic panicking to try to find a method of hauling all our equipment and us to the campsite.

Doesn't really compare to everone else hols I know but it's what we want to do, and camping with DS2 for the first time will be fun.

I just find it awkward when I'm honest about how I feel, and get very worked up and emotional. A 42 year old woman crying at her desk is neither proffesional nor attractvie!!

Anyway, I have a job which I should be grateful for and two wonderful, if quirky, boys. A great DH who also has a good job and a nice house. I shouldn't complain, I know so many people have a hard time at the mo but it just kills me that I have to work in the city full time whilst having the kids in full time child care. I know no one else that does this.

Moan over. Sniff. Will regain composure and flippant attitude.

I will have to content my self with basting my own baby, although I am beginning to doubt wether, at 29lb+, he will fit in the oven!!

BR

MommyHasaHeadache · 02/07/2009 16:35

Hi all - thought I would pop on here in between trawling the net for a job... yes, still looking. DH has now had to change his work hours (and thank goodness he can do this) so I can work later - not that I want to, but because there seems to be NOTHING out there 9-5pm! In fact one agency told me it was "very 1980's" to think I could get a 9-5pm job! BR - I feel your pain - I'm going to be working full time in the city with my DD in full time nursery too and it kills me, but sadly we can't afford for me to be at home.

Gigi is finally walking!! And has tooth no.7 coming through - yay only another 13 to go!

LadyBee, Gigi was very grumpy 2 days before her chickenpox appeared and she got quite high temps. At the time we put it down to teething, but it was the chickenpox. Then she got a spot that looked like a little blister, and then more after that. If BabyBee does get it, I hope he gets it as mild as Gigi got it. Also, if he gets it, we found calomine ointment better than the lotion and easier to apply and bicarb in the bath seemed to sooth.

Gigi also has to go for a MMR booster. Did any of your babies get a reaction post MMR? Gigi did, she got the look alike measle rash they warned me about - took about 5 days to go away but didn't bother her at all.

Suze, it took Gigi a long time to settle into nursery, but now she loves it! So maybe it will take a wee while for E to settle too? It does help that Gigi has a key worker that really seems to take a keen interest in her and has really worked hard in helping Gigi settle.

Sal/Ellie - I am def coming to the meet up - look forward to seeing those I've met before again and to meeting those I haven't! Where are we meeting?

Sal - I've had a look at your pics on FB - looks like you are having a fab time! I'm more than a little envious!

We've just had mas chickenpox outbreak at work.

Poorly babies for up to a week before spots then small red spots with heads on, these are not pin prick, but headed spots, which blister, generally start off around the trunk, thighs or genital area and will be one spot one minute then quite a few within hours.

Sorry haven't been posting much, really shite time at work, am out of a job from 21st of july, all for rocking the boat and complaining about standards not being adhered to.

LadyBee · 02/07/2009 23:08

oh no, VS! That's terrible. Oh it really makes me mad when those who speak up for doing things right at work end up being the worse off for it.
I'm very sorry for you, it sounded like a really nice situation (if a busy and complicated life!) Will you be able to come at commiserate with several drinks in London?

Ok, well, B is being Mr Grumpy-pants sometimes, but not all the time, so I guess I'll stay vigilant about his little dots.

I've been putting a little bottle of water into his cot these last evenings - he has a teddy in one corner and I just tuck it by the teddy and showed B it was there when he woke early one morning. He seems to have remembered because I find him drinking it in the mornings now.

BR, sorry you're not enjoying work at the moment. How much of it is the actual job, do you think, and how much of it the hours & lack of contact with your boys? Is there much scope to improve things.

I'm also v of your weeks in Southwold - love it there. You've just reminded me that I haven't been there for far too long and we should organise a trip out.

MHah, too bad about the job hunt, I was wondering how you were getting on just the other day. Are you finding anything like maternity leave covers? or are they drying up too...I guess there are hiring freezes at a lot of places - we've got one.

SuzeMcG · 03/07/2009 11:16

VS, that is disgraceful that you are losing your job.

E had a mixed day yesterday but they said that she played for a bit, so that is an improvement, I think. Thanks, MHaH, we will give it time and I haven't forgotten to check if there is a role for you in my new co. I start in a week, eek. Apparently they are doing really well (one of the few!) and are still hiring.

SuzeMcG · 03/07/2009 11:53

BR, can you work from home occasionally and at least cut out some commuting time?

bunnyrabbit · 03/07/2009 12:08

VS, very to hear your news. Are they making you redundant or firing you??

Suze, so glad E is settling now so you can concentrate on your new job.

Lady B, hope little B gets over whatever it is soon. Might just be the weather but I actually think this a good age to get chicken pox as they're in nappies so you can chuck loads of cream on. I would reccommend the Half calamin half aqueos cream here. I [heart] Southwold!

MHH, yes it is a pain. Am so glad I have found someone else the same as me. although sorry that you have to work full time too. Knowing you're there will hopefully stop me feeling so guilty about permananetly scarring my children.

As far as your hours go, just don't tell people basically!! Don't even mention it until they offer you the contract.

I work 8 to 4.30 and am very lucky that I work in Broadgate circle so can be on the train in about 2 mins from my desk if I run.
Unfortunatly though I can't drop my days or my hours and I earn more than DH so no question of giving up.

SAL, camping is wonderful. I love it and just hope that DS2 starts walking in the next 4 weeks. Bum shuffling on soggy grass is not how I planned it!!

BR

bunnyrabbit · 03/07/2009 12:12

Suze, nope unfortunately. They won't let me. B**stards.

VictorianSqualor · 03/07/2009 12:12

They have decided not to 'renew my contract' They employ everyone on a 3 month fixed term contract and then employ you long term afterwards but because I've had a few disagreements with the team leader, they decided not to renew mine, however, they ARE investigating my claims.

SuperSoph73 · 03/07/2009 12:28

BR - I know how you feel, honestly. Sam went into full-time nursery at the age of 4 months, which was as soon as my maternity leave finished, it nearly killed me. Luckily DS1 was already at school. Fortunately most women I work with are in the exact same position so we are all very understanding.

VS - so sorry to hear about your job. That's the worst thing about being the last one in. If you don't just knuckle down and get on with it without making waves you've had it.

Sorry, got to dash. Will try and catch up with you all next week. If not the following week.

Love, Soph xxx

SalLikesCoffee · 03/07/2009 15:43

Oh VS, I'm so sorry to hear about the job. It probably won't make you feel any better, but at least you can know that your actions will hopefully lead to an improvement for other children. Still sucks though. Any idea what you'll do now? Do you plan on looking for a similar position or leave it for now?

Bunnyrabbit - well, if walking is a good thing for camping, we might be in luck, as R have decided that now that he can walk/run, he won't do anything else... sigh sigh sigh We've got a camping spot booked for later in the year (could unfortunately only get a space in Sep - hopefully we won't freeze to death then), but i'm simultaneously excited and scared at the prospect. Don't really know why though, because i'm generally very easy going on holiday (pain in the arse the rest of the time...)

Suze, I'm so glad that E is a little happier already. May it continue!

I'm dreading going back to work already. Not because the job itself, as I love it really, but because I can't imagine not being with R all the time anymore. It feels almost like those dreaded first couple of weeks when I started working again, crying my eyes out when I didn't see R enough... At least the busiest time of the year (for a couple of months anyway) is over, so it shouldn't be necessary to work silly hours again. I don't think i'd be able to cope. Well, would if have to, but glad that I don't!

SuzeMcG · 04/07/2009 09:36

That really sucks, VS.

Glad you are having a great time, Sal!

E was happily playing when I collected her yesterday, and they said that she was fine all day, so hopefully she is starting to settle in.

MHaH, this is the company I am joining, maybe keep an eye on their recruitment page. I worked for them on contract before E was born and I really liked it there.

Scorps · 04/07/2009 16:18

Sorry to hear of job problems, everybody.

I have been perving on new baby things today. Going to buy a P&T sport , the cocoon for the baby and the footmuff for mimi are really warm for January treks to toddlers

Are any of you cloth users? Have had a good offer for Tots Bots, £165 birth to potty, brand new, 30 nappies and 10 wraps. Deal on til Wednesday...need to decide!! Might just buy the size 1 set - 15 nappies 5 wraps (so £80 odd) incase we dont stick to it or like it? I do have tumble drier to dry them and i wash things all the fricking time...just seems so cheap, never run out, and they are rainbow colours

I'm just over 15 weeks now, bump actually appearing more and more. Feeling betetr just still so tired come evening time!

Sal you sound like you are having a good time, i looked at your FB photos

Ellie - Sorry to hear about naughty non sleeping baby. You have my email if you want/need help/suggestions or rant.

DH going fishing tonight so nice early night for me .

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 04/07/2009 16:47

OOh Sal great pics

MHAH BR and VS- sorry about job woes

Scorps- weused tots bots for ds3, fab little things IMO

MMR- you can get a swab done to check immunity but am not sure where (post in vaccination section?) if you don't want to bosst if your child is immune- id think a child who reacted was immune TBH.

SalLikesCoffee · 05/07/2009 19:39

Thanks, everyone.

Well, I'm back home, and not all bad feeling, which is always good on return to where you actually stay, isn't it?

Bad news did welcome me back though - my uncle has been battling with cancer for a while, and he has been very very ill lately, and he passed away yesterday. Even though it was expected, I'm just so down.

I do however feel guilty for feeling that way, as I keep thinking how my mom must feel - she has in her lifetime lost a dad, a son and now a brother. And she's only 62. It's not fair sometimes.

Slightly less depressing topic - I'm writing my Life in the UK exam tomorrow. I haven't studied a single word - to be exact, I only went out to buy the guide this afternoon, and haven't looked at it yet. Hey ho, can always retake I guess. My boss doesn't even know I'm writing tomorrow morning (9:30), so he'll prob be really annoyed with me being so late (prob 10:00-ish). I forgot to tell him before I left. What a way to start. Oh well, on the upside, I might get fired.

Took all the holiday washing to the laundrette earlier, as it would have taken years to go through that mountain in the flat. Now all fresh and bug-free.

EllieG · 06/07/2009 09:07

Hey all

sal, so sorry to hear about your uncle. Don't feel guilty, it is horrid for all of you. Have a hug from me ((((()))))

VS - how crappy is that! Am very cross for you. Are they allowed to do that? Mind you, would you want to carry on working in a place where you couldn't raise issues? What were the things you thought were wrong?

Hey scorps - glad all well with you. No advice on nappies as DH flatly refused to try cloth ones. Molly sleeping bit better now, less hot and temp has gone down. Think was reaction to MMR and hot weather.

Molly has started crying again when I leave her at nursery. She is moving into the bigger bit, so maybe that's it. It is all a bit sad though. She has suddenly started getting a bit stranger-shy, which she never used to be, and also actively seeking me or her Dad out most of the time, so I guess is just a stage she's going through.

Scorps · 06/07/2009 13:51

Sal sorry to hear about your uncle

Mimi has got to have her MMR yet, must book that and a midwife appointment. Will do both in a sec actually.

Mimi is now in tots bots too , i kinda figure having 2 in cloth will be easier and so much cheaper. At least their nappies will make up a wash easily, they dry quite quick and she looks soooooo cute in them. So for mimi and baby, birth to potty, has cost me £185 (will prob need more size 2 nappies when dc4 6 months plus, but maybe ten at max). Very chuffed.

SalLikesCoffee · 06/07/2009 19:39

Thanks Ellie and Scorpio.

Ah no, Ellie, I wonder why Molly is feeling a little off? Maybe it's just a normal developmental thing? Roelof had a couple of days like that a couple of weeks ago, but it disappeared just as fast as it came.

Scorpio, I love the look of washables too! I've bought one really cool lime green fleecy wrap once, but only really used it a couple of times, so we're still on disposables here.

I am so shattered now, feel like going to bed right now!

LadyBee · 06/07/2009 23:10

Am knackered too, super busy at work and having to do more than my 30 mins at home.
BabyBee has a cough and keeps waking at night crying.
Still no poxy spots though, so hopefully he's not going to get it.

Oh there he goes..groan. Poor baby

SalLikesCoffee · 06/07/2009 23:33

Well, fingers crossed that poor B at least skips that. Hope you get some sleep tonight.

I really should go to bed now too, but seems to have got a second wind. Maybe if I'm actually in bed it'll be ok...

bunnyrabbit · 07/07/2009 09:26

Must be a phase as babybunny was also coughing lots last night.....

but then it looks like he has a big tooth just come through. Which is a bit strange as he only has 7 fron teeth!

about you being so busy at work, but at lesat it makes the days go fast..

EllieG · 07/07/2009 10:23

I got some sleep last night! She did wake really crying once, but now, to be honest, I think she is just wanting me there, because she was poorly and I cuddled her a bit, now she's better she's having a strop cos I won't do as much of the same. Last night we had a BIG strop in the middle of the night, which I ignored for a couple of mins and then went in and plonked her back down so she got the idea it was sleep time, not cuddle time. I think is just a developmental thing - she's getting frustrated as she can't communicate her needs and therefore goes 'RAAAAAAAA!'. Oh dear. I think I am getting the terrible twos early. Might try teaching her some more signs so she can tell me a bit more what she wants.

Glad babybee is not spotty yet and hello to everyone else

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 07/07/2009 10:31

Sal > about your Uncle

Bas has been grotty as well- a big rash again, fading now but has been sickly for a bit so housebound

however tis my birthday tomorrow so hope he's not too miserable then
