evening all.
what a day. my dd has croup the poor thing, she's in a right state. dr was a waste of time. grrr

have booked alexs baptism. he's being done on mothers day, which is funny as dd was baptised on mothers day 2 years ago!

Marthasmama · 04/03/2009 19:30

Awww poor DD. Croup is horrible and so scary. I don't think there is much that drs can do irc. It's just a matter of getting some humidity in their room to help them breath. It's horrible to listen to your DC struggling like that. .

HMM - mmmmm....fish and chips. Can't tell you whether they are likely to have dairy in I'm afraid. I have lost about 4lbs so far this week, probably because I have no time to eat now DH is away!

CSWS - I promise to be a good girl and won't post on the old thread anymore. But I do like to have the last word. .

MamaG - Mmmmmm barristers. They're so charming and old-worldy. I used to shock the older caseworkers because I was so cheeky to counsel, they loved it though.

Myjob - I showed my mum the picture if N in her gown and she said that N looked like a little china doll.

I am hoping that M will give me a break tonight. She's so tired poor little thing. I took her for a walk in her pushchair and she screamed the whole time! Yay .

Marthasmama · 04/03/2009 19:31

, and - Felt I had to use them all....

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/03/2009 19:48

You'd need to always check with them hmm, but I wouldn't assume it was dairy free unless they say so. Of course down saaarf we don't have gravy on our chips, so I've never needed to ask.

star6 · 04/03/2009 20:06

No babies here myjob!! I know you all think I'm crazy. But ABSOLUTELY NO MORE CHILDBIRTH for me. I have the chills and shortness of breath just thinking about it. When we are in a financially good position, we will seriously consider adoption, but no more childbirth.

Q is sleeping. DH had a job interview for next school year (needs to get into a better school!) and so he had Q for the afternoon after that... so Q did not nap! House is a complete train wreck, but Q and DH had a GREAT time together I should be happy that at least DH loves spending time with Q. he thinks the world of him and loves him more than anything... I think he might love him as much as I do, although I don't think anyone could...
But I DO wish he'd take cues from me about when I need help with little things - especially housework!

star6 · 04/03/2009 20:09

lol MM!

gravy? on chips?
yuck.
chips. yuck. I don't like that yucky film that stays on your tongue / in your mouth after you eat a chip. Sorry, is it blatantly obvious that Im teh world's pickiest eater?? I truly am!
I just had Quinoa with Pak Choi, aduki beans, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and tofu. With lime juice. That's vegetarian AND dairy free! And it was delicious!

star6 · 04/03/2009 20:12

oh! And I've started eating a flapjack most mornings and a piece of wholegrain bread with my dinner and (when i can remember to pack it) with lunch - thanks to all of your lovely suggestions! And weight is now more steady (not losing anymore, thank goodness - that was scary!) and I'm feeling like I have a bit more energy and able to make more milk. But now worried about gaining....

MamaG · 04/03/2009 20:39

at gravy on chips!

Re croup, if your baby is really struggling, you could get comfy on the bath room floor with a hot shower running to really get some steam in the air? Apparently my Mum heaved a mattress onto the bathroom floor when my sister was tiny!

Pistachio - I think you should accept the award, as Harry was a CS and looking at the list it says you had a homebirth - wow

aubergenie · 04/03/2009 20:39

Mmmm chips. We just had curry (homemade) and onion bhajis (also home made. I've been very busy today). Yum. I'm now making some yoghurt in the slow cooker.

Heather - croup sounds awful. I really hope it gets better soon.

We had a breakthrough last night. I managed to keep ds in his Amby ALL NIGHT (fanfare, please!). He fed at 11.30, 4.30. 5.30 and 7ish and I had to get up a lot to bounce him back to sleep, so I didn't get much rest but I really need to get him in the habit of sleeping in his own bed. My back can't take any more co-sleeping and I'm walking like an old lady.

I'm watching a programme about urangutans and there's a woman wheeling a load of baby ones around in a wheelchair. They're so cute!!

Honeymoonmummy · 04/03/2009 20:57

Quinoa. Yuck.

Sorry to hear about croup.. NHS helpline told me steam not good idea for young babies but dunno how young.

Ekka · 04/03/2009 20:58

Aubergenie - I'm watching that too! I was watching them wheel them in a wheelbarrow & thinking that we should have saved money on our buggy . But I think 6 babies at once might be rather too much!!!

CSWS - not exactly wet nappy issues, its just I've not really been keeping track, so I had a panic this morning! He has done 6 today, but a couple were barely wet, so I'm going to watch him closely tomorrow and see. If there are any issues we'll be at the docs asap (I think we should have a regular weekly appt specially for Matthew at the moment). He seems bright enough and happy and chatty, so I hope it continues. Am on the full works - fennel tea, fenugreek etc plus making sure I drink lots and I'm trying to eat plenty of healthy foods. I'm just hoping this is a blip related maybe to my D&V virus last week?

Heather - how horrible, croup sounds awful. It must be so hard for you as well.

ronshar · 04/03/2009 20:59

My guilty secret is KFC Zinger Tower, chips & gravy.

I am now loaded up with HIPP jars. Should last for a while. Boots have a triple points offer on baby stuff.
On my way back to the car my pram broke. In the middle of the street!! How bad is that. Poor William had to be parked up like an old broken down car. He thought it was fab.
I was shocked to notice William sitting up on my lap without me holding on to him. When did he change into a big boy

Myjob, I am also in the no more babies club. Three is so much more work than I thought it would be. I love them all to bits but I think adding another one in would tip us me over the edge

CherryChoc · 04/03/2009 21:16

I LOVE gravy on chips. We are having chinese tonight and am waiting forever for it to arrive and I am starving.

Ryan was due 29 September.

We have had an eventful day today. I went to a coffee morning and met a lady by chance who I had previously seen at the home birth group. It was lovely to chat to someone who doesn't think I am mad for co-sleeping and carrying Ryan in a sling and doing baby led weaning! We swapped numbers so will probably go for a coffee at some point.

But then on the way home (had a lift from my NCT friend) we got rear-ended by a van on the dual carriageway. Thankfully everyone was fine and even the car wasn't too bad (we were slowing down suddenly because of the traffic in front, it seems the van was a bit close) but was just a big and ended up hanging around for 3 hours in A&E waiting for the babies to get checked over.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/03/2009 21:20

Domestic goddess award goes to aubergenie. And healthy eating award goes to star.

Yay for all night in the Amby. Think I'll prob end up selling mine on ebay. What a waste.

Really must go and look at that korma recipe you posted on the last thread...

Eek CC - scary even if not hurt.
Is there a branch of the LLL near you? You can find lots of likeminded types that way.

heather1980 · 04/03/2009 21:35

thanks for the good wishes. dd is 2.4, she has sat on the sofa all day and barely moved except to be sick, put her to bed at 7 and she is bouncing off the walls!! she has lost her voice the poor thing but she does sound so cute. i've had to cancel her 1st ballet lesson for tomorrow as well and we missed my friends little boys 2nd birthday party today

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/03/2009 21:40

Poor poppet Heather.

Can I ask a dumbass facebook question for those of you who use it more than me? Is the only way that I can see which groups I'm a member of, and navigate to them, to go to my profile page, click on the 'info' tab, and scroll down to the bottom? I'm sure it was much easier than that before the fb revamp. I'm hoping that there's another way to get to it, as I can't see that page when I'm using fb for mobiles.

MamaG - we have a fb group for us Oct girls which you're welcome to join. We just set it up last week.

OP posts:
hedgepig · 04/03/2009 21:54

CherryChoc How dreadful to be in a crash ,thank heavens the LOs were OK. Can I ask you about co sleeping? I have fallen into it without planning, do you hold your baby? I have my arm round DS2 but it is starting to make my arm ache, but I'm worried if I don't hold him he will wriggle somewhere while i am asleep

myjob Naomi isn't that much lighter than Ollie, are you still worried about her weight?

CSWS how do I find the face book group? I am not very good at this new fangled nonsense

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/03/2009 22:11

hedgepig - not sure whether the group shows up on a fb search or not. Try searching for mumsnet oct. If that doesn't work then email me on cantsleepwontsleep at gmail dot com and we'll sort it out from there.

I cosleep too, but I don't hold ds, except when we both fall asleep with him on top of me! He just lies next to me (on his tummy) on one side, and I have the duvet trailing off the edge of the bed on the other.

OP posts:
hedgepig · 04/03/2009 22:19

does he stay put. DS2 ended up on this tummy on my arm! this morning don't know how he did it as he can't turn over on his ow in the day time.
Can't get the search to work I will email you

oh my god, ds is watching cbeebies... I need to get him sorted for the day so I just put him in his bouncy chair in front of it

star6 · 05/03/2009 05:58

yay for whole night in amby aubergenie
myjob remember that N is fine if she's content I know easier said than done - how long ago was the last weight check? seems like ages ago, but may have been recently.. I can't recall.
Q is 16lbs and I think he's huge! at 21lbs. You must be in fantastic shape!

aubergenie · 05/03/2009 09:06

CC ? Sorry to hear about your accident. So glad you?re all OK! It?s nice to meet someone in RL who has similar parenting ideas as you, isn?t it. I think a lot of my friends think I?m mad to co-sleep and, although I?m trying to stop because of my back problems, I would definitely do again in the early months if I had another baby.

I?m just enjoying getting back into cooking again. I used to do it for a living before teaching, and I get all grumpy if I don?t have regular time to cook and experiment. I should make the most of it, because, once I?m back at school I won?t have time again.

Hedgepig ?I also co-sleep. We use a bed guard and I only pull the duvet up half way and use a blanket on my shoulders. I put ds in a grobag on a small towel so I can pull it and manoeuvre him around if necessary without waking him. I don?t hold on to him but I do automatically curl around him leaning on my lower arm (if that makes sense). I feed him that way, and then tend to drop off to sleep, knowing that I won?t roll on him. Trouble is, it?s doing my back and shoulders in! I find that I?m quite sensitive to his moving around and wake easily but he tends to keep quite still while he?s asleep. I suppose all babies are different aren?t they?

Sorry that was a bit of a tome. I?ll leave it there. Have a good day, lovely ladies.
