Hello ladies.

Pull up a chair, grab a biscuit and lets start talking about puree vs blw and sleep deprivation

Hi everyone, have just spent 10 minutes trying to catch up with the thread =)

I'm glad more people are weaning now, it quite an exciting time. Katie's favourites are malt loaf and sticks of cheddar. Today she managed to very delibaretly throw her bread over the side of the highchair, and of course it landed neatly in my clean laundry! Was a good through though.

I've had two sessions of my breastfeeding support training and it's really exciting. I've learnt lots of new things about breastfeeding. Can't wait until I'm all done and can start supporting other mums.

I have a bad daddy story! Earlier I was feeding DD on the bed, DP comes in with a Kinder Hippo for me (small wafer chocolate thingy) and threw it at me, but of course I have no hands to catch it with and it just cracks DD straight on the back of the head! She was not at all impressed it has to be said, made him feel very guilty and I felt bad for her too tbh, she was dreamfeeding so it was a very rude awakening!

lollipopmother · 05/03/2009 22:11

Imo - I'm sorry to hear that it hasn't improved, what a shame. It's funny though, DD was exactly the same, she cried at all the sessions for quite a while, but nothing that made me feel that she hated it, just was a bit shocked when she went under water. Every time I took her to the local pool though she was perfect with going under, never had any tears. I think it's because the classes are very fast paced where as I always took her at a much more leisurely speed. I found going on my own made her much better in class though and she never cries now.

Debs75 · 05/03/2009 22:21

IMO We have decided not to bo back to waterbabies even tho we are getting on with it a bit better then you have. She does have her wailing times but generally she has been good and I now have lots of ideas for when I take her by myself. What has put me off is the price for the photo shoot £45 just to turn up then at least £25 for a photo. What a rip off.
Oh and we need to save up for a 2nd stage car seat and the isofix ones are so expensive
We have got in touch with the local council and they do some aqua babies at about £35 a term so am wwaiting for a place to come up.

Robyn tried her first food on Monday night. My friend gave her a hunk of chicken and she chewed on it for a few minutes and sucked all the juices out.
For the last couple of weeks everything in her hands has gone straight in for a chomp so she must be getting ready for some food.
Have decided that we will do blw mostly but may still do some purees so she can learn to dip with a spoon. Am just waiting for the tray to arrives for her highchair as IKEA had run out. Got one off Ebay but it has cost the same as the chair did!

imoscarsmum · 05/03/2009 22:28

lollipopmother, she doesn,t just cry at waterbabies, she howls and buries her mouth into my arm. it's heartrending sobs. like u i wud carry on if just shock but its total meltdown.

SnowlightMcKenzie · 05/03/2009 22:32

imoscarsmum Can you ask his mum to remind him?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 05/03/2009 23:31

anyone heard of eandz? wonder how noah's doing...

ninja · 05/03/2009 23:35

Imoscarsmum if you ever want a photo of C underwater I have a waterproof camera - I haven't tried it out yet but plan to soon. We could try and meet up and take some and I don't charge £45!!

I'm feeling v. patient about wening now but that could be 'cos I'm going away on Saturday. Have I mentioned that yet?

SnowlightMcKenzie · 06/03/2009 00:00

Don't let him eat yellow snow!

plusonemore · 06/03/2009 06:35

me and a couple of friends did our own underwater pictures with ds1, will put it on profile. I think its pretty good and it was a disposable underwater one! Only thing is you need lots of people ideally. We had 4 adults and 4 babes- 1 adult took pics, 1 held 2 babies, 1 baby in a floating seat and that left 2 adults to do 1 baby, 1 to push under, 1 to collect!! Ideally we would have had a couple more adults though

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/03/2009 07:49

imoscarsmum - remind dp that he needs to think about what to get his mum for Mothers Day. It might get the wheels into motion.

lollipop - lol @ kinder hippo! Not that it hit your lo, it just seemed quite a random thing to have chucked at you!

ninja - have a great time on the slopes.

M's sleeping seems to have settled down again this week (for now!) which is great news for me as I've got anaemia at the moment and I'm always tired. I've ordered one of those sitting up play station type things as the baby gym is no longer cutting the mustard. I think because he likes to sit up now, laying down on the play gym is rubbish iho!

Lollipop lol at your DP and the hippo!

Imoscarsmum could you suddenly notice when you walk past a shop this weekend? Say 'oh what a lovely/tacky window display. Gosh, I'd colmpletely forgotten mother's day is coming up, my first one'. It might remind him without reminding him, iykwim.

T punished us good and proper for allowing him to wound himself - he woke every 2 hours for feeds! I guess it was comforting if he was sore, so I couldn't really get cross. Realised there was blood on the sheet too, can't believe we didn't notice it! . Can't see anything in his mouth though, so presumably whatever it was has healed up.

Jenbot · 06/03/2009 09:47

Imoscarsmum - tell him about an imaginary thread on mumsnet where a dad forgot his wife's first mothers day last year and they've had a big row about it this year! Or maybe that is a bit blunt haha.

Hopefully - oh poor T! Don't feel too guilty though - he's OK now.

DebiTheScot · 06/03/2009 11:51

DS1 hasn't been sick since 6.30pm last night so hopefully he's now on the mend. He has no energy at all though and despite telling me he didn't want to sleep on the sofa thats exactly what he's done. So hooray I have turned kids tv off! Hope he doesn't sleep too long though as I want him to have a good sleep in his bed this aft too.
DS2 not showing any signs of getting the bug so far but still have fingers crossed.

My bad mummy story is that ds2 rolled off the futon the other week and scraped his forehead on the wooden slats on the way off. So don't worry hopefully we all do it.

Hopefully · 06/03/2009 12:12

I just popped T in his high chair with a couple of slices of mango and a slice of red pepper in front of him. He grabbed the mango instantly, cue me thinking my boy was a genius, and then he threw it bodily across the room . He did pick up another piece and lick it before flinging it across the room though! And he went face first into the red pepper and gave it a lick - apparently actually picking up your food is for losers.
I honestly never thought this BLW thing would be me at all - was really looking forward to purees etc. But now we're nearly there, it seems so much more 'right' to let him make the decision of when to start eating. You'll all make a lentil weaver out of me yet! I reckon I'll start spooning the odd bit of puree/yoghurt in in a week or two, but I like the idea of him starting things off, so I know he's definitely ready, and me just helping him out with a spoon every now and again.

CarrieBo · 06/03/2009 14:26

We are on the mother of all growth spurts round here, ds is practically inhaling his purees, plus taking extra milk feeds. Maybe I'll have to take the newborn head hugger out of his carseat soon . He's starting to show signs that he might be ready to sit up soon, so I might try the bumbo yet again, I want to get some mileage out of the new tray, but as yet we've not got him to sit in it without screaming.
I told dh about mothers day by saying 'starbucks have got a great offer, if you buy a gift from there and take in your receipt on mothers day then you get two free coffees'. Dh's face fell...he's just pulled out all the stops twice, for valentines and my birthday. Tee hee. I've asked for a new kettle as a present . Poor boy!
Anyone wanting to drop even bigger hints, tell your dp about this venture photography deal - its a £145 package for £25.
Be careful hopefully, if you become a lentil weaver, gina might not talk to you any more

notcitrus · 06/03/2009 16:15

Heh. MrNC doesn't do subtle, so my comment on a mothers day ad on tv was 'so what are you doing for us for mothers day then?'

A has such chubby thighs he's grown out of his Bumbo - he sulks if put in it, and if you lift him out it sticks to him. High chair is the way to go now. He's beginning to be sit-up-able for a few seconds.

SnowlightMcKenzie · 06/03/2009 16:52

NC WOuld you consider hiring out/selling your bumbo?

Our local surestart centre has a dads group on the last saturday of the month. The workers there make sure the dads don't forget mothers day and get them to make a card with their DCs.

plusonemore · 06/03/2009 17:10

carrie they are always giving out free vouchers for that venture offer- they make their money by then selling you more pics at ridiculous prices. If anyone wants to do it I would phone and say you had a free voucher but have lost it, see what they say!

Hopefully · 06/03/2009 18:54

Carriebo Gina would be horrified I expect!

becaroo · 06/03/2009 19:38

Sooo...had my eye op this afternoon at 4pm. I can honestly say it was one of least amusing things that has ever happened to me They stuck a needle in my eye and then lopped the growth off then cauterized my eyelid, then stitched it!!!!!

Then they put an eye patch on! Like a pirate!!

But you know the worst part??? My eyesight is REALLY bad so I had to put my glasses back on, over the eypatch. When I got home dh said I looked like Olive from "On the buses"!!!

Feeling very unloved and swollen and bruised. Sniff.........

becaroo · 06/03/2009 19:40

.........and I do look like Olive from "On the uses"!!!!!!!!! Sob!!!!

Meglet · 06/03/2009 19:55

becaroo. Your poor eye and poor you. Sending you a virtual box of chocs, that you are not allowed to share with your DH because he was mean to you. Get well soon.

becaroo · 06/03/2009 20:02

...sniff...thanks meglet x (are they pralines? I LOVE pralines!)

Meglet · 06/03/2009 20:14

they will be pralines . how long before your eye is better?
