Hello ladies.

Pull up a chair, grab a biscuit and lets start talking about puree vs blw and sleep deprivation

Well done baby Ninja.

On one hand you're really proud that they can do it, then on the other hand you think 'you little rat, you CAN do it when you want to'.

so far so good on the new routine front. The worst is yet to come, gonna wake him from his nap in a minute, bottle, but then no more milk til after bath at 6

re:weaning, He has had 4 tastes of various mush/petit filous. Each time he has gagged, even though whatever it is hasnt really gone in much at all. My instincts say leave it another week or so (hes 24 wks) but HV i mentioned it to today said she thinks I should keep going. What do you reckon?

Hopefully · 23/03/2009 14:19

Plusone leaving it a day or two certainly isn't going to hurt (can't see him having a lifetime of food issues due to weaning 2 days later), so i'd be inclined to leave it another few days, then perhaps try every couple of days and see how you go. Or just leave it till 26 weeks if you're happy to. Don't see any reason why you ought to persevere at the moment iykwim.

Go baby Ninja! (lol at image of ninja baby). Perhaps our two appalling sleepers are turning the corner. Or perhaps we'll bother be up every 20 mins tonight to make up for a good night...

Ear tugging occured only 30 mins after first getting up, but hasn't reappeared. Although T is generally not a happy chap today. Might have something to do with the giant rabbit dropping he produced earlier - I kid you not, it was so dry it rolled out of the nappy when I changed him.
Spoke to doc, have an appointment later this week, he also said to try to get fluids in by any means, so we're getting some rosehip syrup later on in the hope that the sweetness will appeal when mixed with water.

Hopefully · 23/03/2009 15:20

OMG, just had a repeat performance of the rabbit dropping, followed by an explosion of dooooooom.

In other news, T is in absolute giggling hysterics because I am wiggling my toes at him.

We seem to have turned a corner with the sleeping here too. Thursday night was bit better, Fri and Sat not great but not as bad as before and he was in a travel cot and getting picked up everytime he squeaked so he didn't wake everyone up (staying with friends fri and all of us in same room in hotel on Sat), then last night he was better again. Waking at 12 and 5 then going back to sleep himself until 7.15. Fingers crossed it'll keep improving and we won't go backwards again.

Main difference last night was him settling himself after being fed. he always used to do this fine but had been a pita recently. Then at weekend it got to the point where when he was picked up he stopped instantly and then cried again instantly when put down. So we said right we're going to have to fight this battle when we get home as its getting silly- but then last night he behaved.

Ended up in our bed on Saturday, we all only went to bed at 11pm so was desperatly trying to not disturb ds1. In some ways I can see why people co-sleep, he sucked and I dozed on and off from 6-8am. But I only had about 3 inches of bed and couldn't change position as I would have fallen out of bed. Meanwhile ds1 was sleeping in a double bed all on his own! Didn't seem fair!

Had good weekend in Liverpool at cousin's wedding, it all went really well and it was good to stay out late even though ds1 has been throwing tantrums ever since as he's so over tired. The drive home yest wasn't too bad either. Went to The Beatles museum in the morning which ds1 really enjoyed.

I was quite proud of myself and ds2. Apart from his milk we didn't take any food for him at all. He ate everything we ate including roast lamb at the wedding meal. And it was so much easier and more relaxing to just put food in front of him while we ate our meal. And the lamb kept him occupied for hours!

Debs75 · 23/03/2009 16:13

Debi that really is the beauty of blw isn't it. We had roast chicken yest and Robyn was so happy. I think she really enjoys the whole play aspect of it as she smiles so much when in her high chair swatting at food. She even sings when eating (I did until I was about 15, think I started to get a bit embarressed)
She is however quite lazy and if I show her some food she opens her mouth and leans in, keeping her hands well back. I pop it into her hands and then she is well away.

ninja · 23/03/2009 16:34

Baby Ninja says thanks for the congratulations - but do you think it's asking for too much to shift the 7 hours so I get that much sleep?

Swim class today and M's really enjoying it. She kicks and squeals with excitement before she's even in thr water. I'm trying to experiment with the camera so the poor babe gets dunked twice as much as the others!!

I'll put a photo on my profile

ninja · 23/03/2009 16:34

Debs lol at singing while eating at 15

barnpot · 23/03/2009 17:08

hi ladies, els is continuing to improve the episodes are 10 or less a day now, I cant help but think it has something to do with his iron levels, and as they improve then so does his do's???
will talk to consultant on wednesday.
I'm so at you girls with babies in cots, own room or not, I gave up the sleep training when he started wobbling his eyes, so hes still in my bed. I have no clue how to get him out, especially now, whenever I put him in our bed he does his boobie call!!
have decided to get on with life, have wasted a month just staring at him 24/7.
So next week I'm ging to start swimming again, I've never done it on my own, and i'm curious as to how you ladies do the showering/washing and changing when you have your LO's? have considered taking a light sling with me that doesn't matter if it gets wet?
also els has 2 front lower teeth coning throgh, so is extra grizzly!

Hi ladies, not been on for ages so will have to go back and try to catch up as and when later. Just wanted to let you all know I have a new job. I'm very excited about finally having some money (although is only a 6 mth contract) Not so excited about receiving the call at 3pm today and being asked to start at 9am tomorrow tho.

Hope everyone is well and I will try to keep up from now on.

DebiTheScot · 23/03/2009 18:17

yes I did enjoy showing him off. Although there wasn't many comments actually, must have a very forward thinking family! My mum said something like "clever baby not bothering with purees and going straight for real food" My response was, "no, clever mummy for not bothering with purees"

he didn't gag much at all, only a few times in the first couple of weeks so baby starlight probably wont do it for long.

congratulations mel are you really starting tomorrow?

dh had a phone interview today so fingers crossed it'll lead to something good.

MelT76 · 23/03/2009 18:20

I'm starting Wednesday as they can't get IT set up til then. Bit of luck really as MA runs out next week! Didn't even go for interview, haha, they just saw my CV. Think they are desperate.

Kagey · 23/03/2009 19:21

Barnpot that's good news!! I tend to hold E when showering (I say showering but it's just rinsing off the chlorine and then I shower properly when home). I nab a family changing room as they have baby change stations in them, so I can quickly get changed after I have dried and dressed E.

MelT well done on your new job!!!

digitalgirl · 23/03/2009 19:25

congratulations Mel

I'm still in job app hell. It's only my second application, but it's taken me a week to nearly finish my statement. I think I might try and wrap it up tonight.

A is still suffering with teething. Not really eaten much today. Bit of brekkie and a bit of cream cheese on rice cake. When will these bloody teeth come through? Can they appear overnight?

ninja · 23/03/2009 19:33

Good News Mel although that must be a bit scary starting so soon.

I'm doing a couple of days work in the next week as they've not found anyone to do them. I have to say I'm quite looking forward to going and being my professional self for a day.

I guess I should be more concerned about M, but she seems pretty sociable and she's being looked after by my next door neighbour who she knows well. Plus she's so lovely it's only fair to share her about a bit

barnpot I tend to just hold M in the shower with me, but then I take her in with me at home too. I tend to just shower rather than wash hair etc (although I have done this). There are some slings that are specially designed for going in the water I think.

CarrieBo · 23/03/2009 19:42

jenpet don't worry about 'going backwards' - ds did this for a few nights after being ill, just to catch up on missed food I think, but I kept it all quiet in the dark etc and he dropped the feed again of his own accord. Good luck!
plusonemore how's GF going? Our routines are always a cobbled together version of the one he should be one, and the ones before and after (he's only just dropped the late afternoon nap for example!)
debs I've already asked for the toaster for wedding anniversary
ILTMIMI we're going to a wedding in Long Melford and saying in a self catering place about 20mins north (I think...could be wrong though, can't remember...its not near the coast though as that was too pricey). Ideas for a 2 and a bit year old and an 8 month old would be gratefully received! Thank you!

DebiTheScot · 23/03/2009 19:53

carriebo I can beat your mothers day present- I got socks!

ds2 has been crawling backwards and round in circles today. Wonder how long it'll be before he goes forwards.
His cheeks and chin are also very red but they've been like that off and on for several weeks now so goodness knows when the teeth will appear.

jenpet · 23/03/2009 19:59

Great news on the job Mel well done!
And more good news Barnpot that sounds positive...
Re teething, I seem to remember last time you just get one through, then they seem to start with more! You just kind of get used to it eventually...Also, isn't this the age when they learn about things by putting them in their mouths? So I often wonder what is actually "teething" and what is just discovery. I don't think there is a cuter pose than a baby on his back chomping on his toes!

jenpet · 23/03/2009 20:00

Wow - your DS2 is crawling Debi I missed that post! That's amazing!

CarrieBo · 23/03/2009 20:15

barnpot some swimming pools have little seats with straps in the showers and family changing rooms, so that you can be hands free. Hope you both really enjoy it!
plusone the evening is where we've really adapte the GF routine - ds has his dinner at 5pm, a small bottle at 6:15 (just so he doesn't lose the bottle habbit!) and bf after his bath, which is at about 6:30. We do it this way coz of dd, who has tea at 5ish and goes up for her bath at 6:30. It seems to tank him up nicely for the long night!

I've discovered the real BLW....dd loves to spoonfeed ds. I'm practically redundant at meal times

CarrieBo · 23/03/2009 20:16

debi sorry about the socks. I actually wanted and asked for the kettle!

DebiTheScot · 23/03/2009 20:19

he's not properly crawling, can't quite lift his lardy arse off the ground!

plusonemore · 23/03/2009 20:39

carrie so far so good with GF, everything as it should be (except no grub yet) oh and like you have adapted evening to fit in with ds1, we do bath at 6, he's feeding about twenty past, in bed by 7 still. I am just dreading tonight though, got to be strong, I know he doesnt need the milk in the night as he isnt hungry in the morning, must tell myself that in the middle of the night!!

CarrieBo · 23/03/2009 20:48

You can do it! When they've lost interest in breakfast you know they're just waking out of habit. If you do cave in, you could still try reducing the amount of time of the feed, and doing it all in the dark with no talking, so that hopefully he'll drop it of his own accord. What's the plan - CC or shush-pat or similar?
