I know and she also asked if i would like her to come to my house and show me how to make him have a bottle. I now have no confidence in going to her if i have a problem.

LackaDAISYcal · 02/03/2009 17:25

Can you ask for a different health visitor tegan? this woman sounds like a complete nutter and the sort that gets health visiting a bad name. I would definately be having words with her superiors.

There is another hv i can talk to but he is male and has no children of his own, so i do kind of wonder how he would know anything about bf. maybe i could talk to him wednesday when i get O weighed.

Flippin eck I am AMAZED at some of the rubbish spewing out of HV's mouths. That is actually rude and insulting to say such a thing. I have taken M once to baby clinic to be weighed, and whilst waiting, told one of the HV's about M's tongue tie and the problems feeding. She said "oh don't worry about giving up breastfeeding, it's not that important" .
No wonder so many people give them a wide berth.

Supposed to be getting dinner ready, but couldn't help chipping in. Back to the potatoes!

PinkyMinxy · 02/03/2009 18:57

can I add another OMG too?Tegan, im won't have a bottle because she hasn't been offered one!

you hv will think me a freak!

hana I don't know how much im feeds, I never remember to make a note.

Autumnlady lovely to see you again. sorry to hear of the divorce, but I hope happier times are ahead for you.

hi all

thanks for kind messages.x

ChocOrange05 · 02/03/2009 19:10

Evening all

Welcome back AutumnLady, sorry about you and DH (or TH ) but I am pleased you are enjoying James.

Bloody HV's I can't believe they say such rubbish - it seems to me like midwiferey (sp?) and HV are very opinionated professions rather than saying what is WHO/BMA recommendations they say what they think - which is fine, but something along the lines of "WHO recommend BF for the first 6 months however IMO..." so at least you know its their opinion and not gospel. I haven't seen or heard anything from my HV since M was 3 weeks - she was supposed to come over at 6 weeks to do a PND questionnaire but cancelled and never phoned to rearrange - good job I don't have PND or fat lot of good they would have been.

I had a lovely lunch with Obs and Pinkglow and their gorgeous boys on Friday. about your car accident Obs but very pleased you and M are ok.

Daisy as Sausage said about the BF you have done fantastically so far - I am in AWE of anyone who has exclusively BF this long - and if you need/want to supplement with formula those benefits won't be lost so don't put too much pressure on yourself.

My boy is delightfully gorgeous (and a number of other superlatives) . Poor thing had his 16 week jabs today and as before he screamed after about 4 hours so I gave him some calpol and cue happy baby once more. Thank god there are no more jabs for 8 months!

M has been sleeping 11-6.30/7 most nights for the past couple of weeks which is fab - sleep is underrated, I LOVE GF! He's still quite reflux-y though so I can usually predict the nights he will wake up if he has been sick a lot in the day. He is 16 weeks today though so I am bracing myself for a growth spurt !

Have good evenings all. x

Pinkglow · 02/03/2009 19:20

I keep forgetting our boys are the same age ChocO - they seem to go along the same lines sometimes.

Henry has been sleeping till 6:30am after the dreamfeed then going back down till 7:30am TOUCH EVERY AVALIABLE PIECE OF WOOD but am also worried about the upcoming growth spurt - lovely

ChocOrange05 · 02/03/2009 19:25

BTW - if you like photos and making photo collages etc Google's programme Picasa is fab - I have just discovered it and made some wonderful photo collages of M for the grandparents - much better than the old fashioned scissors and glue!

thanks for all words of support regarding DS bottom troubles and A's seemingly constant vomiting. Hugs to all ladies with poorly DC. autumnlady sorry to hear about your divorce. But better to be happy apart than miserable together (sorry terrible memory cant remember past posts).

I'm at hospital tomorrow to have my "bits" checked due to that weird bleed I had (also had light this month). Not looking forward to it. It is also at 9.30am so that I will be stressed beyond belief from the moment I wake sorting out 2 kiddies, dropping them or just A if DS ok for nursery, driving in rush hour traffic to hospital. Then trying to get a parking space! Also DS at doctors in PM for a full checkup regarding his bum troubles as I insisted it be investigated further as his sample came back clear. MUST also remember to get A weighed at baby clinic tomorrow PM. She is at the hospital WED for the EARLY follow up appt for the vomiting. More stamping of feet required I think as she is 9/10 times very sick numerous times after feeds and can be an hour or more after. Finding that after just 2 hours she is starting to cry hunger. Dont know whether she is hungry because wanting bigger feeds or because she vomits too much back up. A couple of VERY stressful days ahead . Cant imagine how I would deal with all these hospital appts and work too. At least I dont have to worry about that until August . Although at times with DS behaviour I have been tempted to go back sooner (BAD MUMMY).

TEETHING BEADS - Anyone heard anything about them or where I could buy some if good? Just I saw some on the net and thought they might be a good lightweight teether and also small bits to fit in A's little mouth.

vbab78 · 02/03/2009 20:14

tegan - SORRY FORGOT TO TYPE. at your HV!!!!

Ceebee74 · 02/03/2009 20:39

Too many posts to catch up on today - I have read them all though!

Sam also chews his fists all the time (if his dummy isn't in) - can't decide if it is a comfort thing or the start of teething - who knows??? The other thing he has started doing is holding his arms out very straight and moving them up and down whilst staring intently at his hands - he looks like he is 'vogueing' (Btw I realise your LO's have probably been doing this for a while but obviously Sam is one of the youngest on this thread )

HV's are a load of very stupid patronising women aren't they?? I can't believe the advice that has been given out to a couple of you - it actually beggars belief [shock

Sausage I wanted to say that what you said to Daisy was just lovely

Daisy Hope you are feeling better today and that operation comes asap so you can get back to normal life again!!

Hi to everyone else! Just out of interest, is anyone starting to wean/thinking about it yet? Surely with most of the LO's reaching 4 months soon, it is possible that some of us will. I am definitely going to try and wait till 6 months - and Sam doesn't seem to be a particularly hungry baby (although he is 15 weeks this week so ask me again when the growth spurt starts ). To those of you ff, how much does your LO take (again, just out of interest) - Sam has 5 bottles a day - and probably takes 7oz on average each bottle. I make 8oz bottles and occasionally he will down it but more often than not there is some left in the bottle.

LackaDAISYcal · 02/03/2009 20:39

tegan, to give you a bit of reassurance.....one of the best midwives on the PN ward at my local hospital who is very successful at helping to get BFing off to a flying start is a man. And look at Dr Jack Newman...big BF guru. I sometimes think that men are good at stuff like that as they really need to know their stuff rather than thinking they know it because they've done it iyswim.

I suppose it is an achievement to get this far without recourse to formula (I'm in denial about whether or not he had any at two days old when I was out of my mind through lack of sleep and acute anaemia). I'll pump as much as I can and hope I can build up a good supply.

OP posts:
vbab78 · 02/03/2009 20:51

ceebee - LOL at Sam vogueing. I know realise that is what A has been doing all along! A (16wk tomorrow) has at least 5X6oz bottles a day. Sometimes a couple of extra oz if her feeds fall funny at bedtime. She has been getting hungry after a couple of hours and if I try to push her longer ( covers ears to not hear "bad mum" being chanted by the ladies) by 3 hours she is in a real state. I have thought about "upping" her feed to 7oz but still got doc at hospital words ringing in my ears regarding the vomiting "feed her less". RE Weaning thought about the topic but not actually considering doing it YET. Will see what happens at hospital on WED re A feeds. Shocked to be honest that weaning isnt far off, where has the time gone !

vbab78 · 02/03/2009 20:53

OMG my sppppeeelllling is shaddle.

PinkyMinxy · 02/03/2009 20:53

ceebee I weaned my other two after six months, and Im will be the same.

Dasiy I think I was starting to mix feed at this point with DS, as I had been giving him EBM exclusively until about 12 weeks when he finally took it from source, I decided to keep him witha bottle a day, as my supply was a bit diminished. Once I ran out of EBM from the freezer, he was on a bottle of formula. I think he was ok with it. DD1 wouldn't have liked it, I don't think. Imi seems happy enough with the boob.

But I totally understand where you are coming from. Things had gone so crappola with ds's birth I was determined he would be exclusive;y BF and went to quite silly lengths, with hindsight.I knew I wouldn't be able to do the same if I had had similar problems with DD1.

So in my long winded way, I am saying, I understand where you are coming from and think you are doing fantastically well.

MonkeyMargot · 02/03/2009 20:56

Gosh - so much chat!

AutumnLady welcome back - sorry to hear you're getting divorced, but really hope you will be happier moving onwards and upwards with your little man. Are you moving? We must, must do another London meet-up.

Tegan your HV sounds vile. what a bee-atch.

MerryM Come Dine With me - it would have to be garlic scallops, lamb tagine, then CHEESECAKE. My fave!

Plum post - I think I might have given birth to the first baby in need of a gastric band. This week, she has gained a whole pound, last week was 12 ounces. She is a little greedy lady! Now weighs 17lbs at 15 weeks

Lacks sorry about your relapse of the gallbladder issue. What a nightmare. When will it get so bad it affects your Scrabble ability??!

Hana Also loved Revolutionary Road. Very strong performance from Miss Twinset.

Right - off to bed in a mo. Still recovering from late night Saturday. Love to all those with woes...x

MonkeyMargot · 02/03/2009 20:58

LolaBella forgot to say, well done on success with bottle. I really should keep trying - but have now got out of habit of expressing! Well done you!

vbab78 · 02/03/2009 21:02

monkey - CHEESECAKE!!! YUM! YUM! MY FAVE.

MonkeyMargot · 02/03/2009 21:04

Vbab I'm so with you on CHEESECAKE!!!

coolkat · 02/03/2009 21:10

VBAB - teething beads used to be sold by Wilko's but our local store discountinued so I got Becca some off of ebay, paid just over £3.00 inc del. Lots of traders selling them. I think they are good as they can hold them easily, even Becca wih her dodgy finger!!

Night ladies, the toll of Centre parks and MIL's 60th on sat catching up with me!

chocolategal · 02/03/2009 21:18

ceebee E takes 5 bottles during day of 5-6 ounces, he also has at least 1 overnight. He's not a hungry boy really so think it will be a while before I have to wean!

LOL monkey at plums gastric band, she is obviously doing really well. ( and you!)

Off to bed, got an early start tomorrow with E at hospital for kidney ultrasound.

phee96 · 02/03/2009 22:33

ceebee I haven't been keeping much note of how much A has been drinking but she seems to take about 4oz at each feed (I usually make up 5oz and there is nearly always some left) I think she has about 6 feeds during the day and usually has another couple of oz during the night.

Bad mummy alert I realised today that Ava hasn't been weighed since her 8 week check when she was 9lb 8oz... she was 13 weeks yesterday She's got her second set of jabs next Tuesday so she will be weighed then

Am also and at Tegan's HV

Lacks I second what Sausage said

A has been a bit of a nightmare today but has now crashed out after being wide awake since 6. Fingers crossed she will be better tomorrow as we are going to SIL so DH can have his tattoo. She has 3 kids aged 4, 2 and 1 so it is usually quite hectic.

Still no sign of my sister's baby, due on Thursday but am geting very excited

Well A is awake again but DH has gone to see to her bless him

twinklingfairy · 03/03/2009 00:08

Ooh yes vbab I like the look of those bed things. Might pick some up for J. Though he is waaay of teething yet, and he isn't doing the vogue thing yet ceebee.
But I always have to remind myself that J was early so is a month behind in most things.
I am reading about you all talking about the 16week growth spurt, but I just figure that will prob not happen on time with J either. So I have just thrown the book out and am entirely winging it with J.
He is going to be soooo spoilt cos I am just letting him do as he pleases. You wanna feed? You only fed and hour ago? Ah well, what the hey, here's a boob

Had a look on ebay for teething beds. What do you all think of these I think they are gorgeous and want them for me. Am dubious about their amazing abilities though

Dozymare · 03/03/2009 07:27

Ceebee am loving the vouging (sp)description!!!!! Tiger has been doing that for a while, her fists/fingers are also constantly in her mouth, but I am using nelsons teetha to good use. Working for her!

She is taking 5 bottles a day between 7am-7pm. She hasn't woken in the night for a feed since before Christmas. She is still on the 50th PC and has been following that nicely, after rising from the 6th at birth. Definitely Miss Average!!!!!

As for weaning, I will do it when I feel she is ready - DS1 was onto purees by now, as were the guidelines in 2003 and DS2 was 18 weeks. (Tiger is 18 weeks this week). I don't feel she is ready yet, she is quite content with her milk. Neither boys have any food issues or allergies although I understand why they say to wait until 6 months. I was weaned at 8 weeks IIRC! I will also be pureeing food, then progressing onto solids when I feel DD is ready. She is being treated same as boys! I love pureeing and am terrified of choking, not giving myself unnecessary stress. Would be interested to hear what the benefits of BLW are......DISCUSS
