Do you mean forward facing in a pushchair? All my pushchairs are forward facing unless the have the carseat cliped on the top. I know there was a big thing recently saying that forward facing pushchairs were "bad" because they could "socialise with the parent/carer, but t be honest, my children would have been craning thier necks around or hanging over the sides as they like to see around them (I also carry Zack outward facing in his sling a bit now too). Honestly, it is hard being a parent as what 2 person thinks is right, someone else will pipe up with different advice (a bit like how I weaned ds1 at 16 weeks and now I look at zack, who's 18 weeks and can't imagine giving him solid food yet. The pushcahir is fine as it won't be going at speeds a car would, if you see what I mean.

Heartmum2Jamie · 10/03/2009 13:35

Opps, that should read: Couldn't socialise with parent.

LadyBuzz · 10/03/2009 13:38

heartmum DS1 is in the Evolva I can highly recommend it!

Jay is full of cold poor love, all snotty and very very wheezy, how long do you let a wheeze go before you see a doc?
He was wheezy as a tiny baby and I kept being fobbed off by the docs.

ilovespagbol · 10/03/2009 14:29

hi, im new to this - the thread and the parenting lark. how does this work, the thread i mean....hope i am not butting in?

DD 17 weeks and yes we have been seeing some red in her hair for a while now, which i am very happy about as mine comes out of a bottle.

LadyBuzz · 10/03/2009 16:07

Welcome Ilovespagbol this is a great thread loads of lovely people on here.
We just chat about anything and everything.

tegan · 10/03/2009 17:02

Heartmum I was thinking of putting O in a forward facing car seat but it's not advisable apparently, on the pushchair thing i am considering borrowing my friends zapp to take on hols for a week but at 5 months will O be too young for this buggy?

MerryMarigold · 10/03/2009 17:51

Thanks for the link heartmum. have ordered book. Wissa is obv a bit slow as it's getting on for 3 weeks since this started. Judo only just starting though .

lacks, 'GLAD' bumble is doing it too, makes me feel like it's not just my terrible parenting! sympathy with dh!

welcome ilovespagbol. we love it too (and it's the only dish dh can cook - well he's cooked it about 3x since we got married in 2003!).

coolkat · 10/03/2009 18:23

Welcome Ilovespagbol, we had you for tea

Been doc's I have three things causing me problems apparently, SPD, Siatica and muscular problems! Got some painkillers but still walking like John Wayne!

Back later. X

UmSami · 10/03/2009 18:59

Hi Ilovespagbol WELCOME...I joined this thread, oh, 2 days ago and have been merrily butting in ever since! Noones told me off yet, in fact everyones been lovely. It's nice not to be the newbie anymore
Oh and I had spag bol for supper! YUM

Merry sorry I meant to say yesterday (ds got involved and well things went wrong)...hope your sister makes it back to the uk...whilst having a bub over here is very doable, it's of course not as much fun as back home with friends and (sometimes) family!...climate here a bit diff to Dubai...we have freezing winters and very hot summers with zero humidity...great for skin, i think not! At present the temps as good as it gets, lovely at night, and not too hot in the day with a lovely breeze, with an occaisional cold day. BUT the wind brings dust and sand storms...yes I'm looking forward to a uk spring LOL!

Dozymare · 10/03/2009 19:23

evening all - Welcome, welcome to Umsami and Ilovespagbol. Do you know, I really, really do love spag.bol....have in the past few years, tweaked my recipe now, and i would say it is pretty perfect! I mince all my ingredients and it makes such a difference!!! Am currently eating Sushi though......I love Sushi as well!!

umsami whereabouts in the middle east are you??

lacsk not long now till op, are you looking forward to your break it?

Hello everyone else, haven't got a lot to add/say as all good here..same old, same old!

vbab78 · 10/03/2009 19:24

Hi ilovespagbol. autumnlady - WEANING ... I feel you do what your instincts tell you. I think my DS was about 4 maybe 5 months (must find out baby diary, not kept one for A though ). He was a big baby having big bottles on a regular basis and he was starting to get very upset due to hunger so I tried him. I figure try and leave weaning as long as poss but if feel child is ready then try and if turns out they arent ready then try again later. I think A is doing good on the new "hungrier baby" milk. Got a feeling that she may be closer to 6m before I try her though. just shows how completely different 2 children can be. Sorry went on a lot.
lacks - at your DH! about thrush back.
A - had 3rd and last lot of injections today. YIPPEE! She seems fine and only cried at first.
DS - Had no wee accidents at nursery so got a "big boy" sticker. But had one wee accident at home later . Onwards and upwards!
Now going to try and have a bath before DH comes home from squash demanding the bath to try and ease his pain!

LackaDAISYcal · 10/03/2009 19:43

tegan, I think he'll be alright in the quinny buggy. My DS and DD were in little compact folding buggies for holidays around this age.

Umsami and heartmum, I'm having my gallbladder removed on Thursday . But, after three really horrible episodes of biliary colic due to gallstones the size of small boulders, one of which had me in hospital for two days with pain lasting five days at a time......needs must!

bumble had his jabs today . He wasn't too bad at clinic but did cry, but then went to sleep in the car. He had been fine, in his swingy chair through tea and quite happy, then he was giggling on my knee and we were playing. One minute giggle giggle giggle, next screaming, red in the face working himself into a lather and it has taken 2 lots of calpol (only 2.5ml each time) and over an hour and a half to calm him down .....poor wee scone. He is currently laid over DHs lap and letting out the occasional whimper.

His weight has started to tail off as well, and he has gone from under 91st to under 75th centile. HVs are great at the clinic though and just said, yup BF baby, he looks fine and is obvioulsy thriving. No mention of weaning from them either

Oh bugger, he's off again

LackaDAISYcal · 10/03/2009 19:55

We need a new thread soon....thinking caps on!!

just don't mention weaning in the title please

for anyone interested in product testing.....M&B are recruiting for the 2009 M&B awards. You register and then they will get in touch sometime in May I think asking for a confirmation email for the various products you want to test. I did reuseable nappies and skincare last year...we're still working our way through the skincare products and I made a tidy profit on the nappies once we were finished using them

Heartmum2Jamie · 10/03/2009 20:02

Tegan, I would say O would be fine in the buggy, like Lacks, I have used an umbrealla folding strolller when I took ds1 on holiday when he was 16 weeks and he was ok. I have to admit I haven't tried Zack in a forward facing buggy yet, but his head control & body stability haven't been as good as my other 2 boys.

Poor Bumble, I hope he feels much brighter tomorrow, it sounds like a tailing off in weigh in breastfed babies is normal for this age. My HV also said no need to wean but then she knows I would probably shoot her down if she dared suggest it to me (have no problems with others starting when they think their baby is ready, just with our family history I know to wait). Good luck with your surgery Lacks. I am also having surgery next week, but it's "only" dental, so just half a day off for me

ChocOrange05 · 10/03/2009 20:04

How about this for a new title then Lacks -

Due Nov 2008: WE Are Not Interested iN eatinG yet.

LackaDAISYcal · 10/03/2009 20:06

ROFL choco...i like it

vbab78 · 10/03/2009 20:16

OK the bath didnt happen . I managed to run it but not get in it as A for the 1st time at bedtime in months was being a minx! I think that being on the next stage formula has set her (not GF) schedule (inc sleep) out a bit so she had her usual teatime before bedtime nap later than normal due to the fuller belly i think.
Dont know whether I can be bothered to run another bath. Also dont know if I can afford it after my last gas bill. EEK!

love the thread name .

Ceebee74 · 10/03/2009 20:21

Evening all

Welcome Ilovespagbol - this thread really is full of lovely people so please stick around

Have tried to catch up on everything today - DH has been hogging the office working from home so not been able to get on the PC.

Autumn if you think J is ready for weaning then go ahead - every baby is different and I certainly won't be throwing anything at you I personally would like to wait until 26 weeks like I did with DS1 but I really can't see how Sam is going to be happy with milk for another 10 weeks but we shall see.

Having said that, I did go a bit mad in Mothercare this afternoon and stocked up on loads of weaning stuff - all of DS1's is a bit grotty (and he still uses some of the bowls/pots/cups etc). I also bought a highchair which reclines a bit so I am thinking Sam can start to sit in it at mealtimes with us even if he is not joining in. At the moment, he gets abandoned in the lounge whilst we go and eat which I always feel a little bit guilty about.

Going back to the Bumbo chat, if you haven't bought the tray that can be attached to it, I can highly recommend it. We didn't have one with DS1 so the Bumbo was a bit redundant in that he could only sit in it and not really play - but with the tray, I can now use it for Sam with toys or finger food (when the time comes) - here is DS1 demonstrating it's use Why is it that the older siblings feel the need to play with anything that you have for the younger ones??

Tinkerisdead · 10/03/2009 20:24

evening all. Just managed to get back on here after some fab fab days with the new and improved Sophie. waterbabies, mother and baby groups, swimming with friends. she has been a bloody angel so we have been living it up; us girls. daddy is out playing pool. She has gone down first time and so im logging in to catch up.

hello to the newbies and good luck daisy for your op this week. right off to catch up on the thread. see you all in a bit

chocolategal · 10/03/2009 20:33

Just a quick post, welcome spagbol.
That is a very cute pic ceebee, what highchair did you buy? I've been starting to look at some so hopefully we can sit DS at table with us so he can watch!
I am going to mothercare tomorrow, I wonder if they would let me sit E in a bumbo to try it?

Like the title suggestion choco!
Goodluck for Thursday daisy, and for next week heartmum. I work in a ward where 1 morning a week we get people in for wisdom teeth extraction. All I can say is PLENTY of salty mouth washes!!!

LackaDAISYcal · 10/03/2009 20:35

lord where are my manners?

Hi to ilovespagbol . Welcome to MN and parenthood. Of course you aren't butting in, everybody is welcome. All you need to know is that we like to talk

PinkyMinxy · 10/03/2009 20:40

Helloo especially to umsami and Ilovespagbol I always make double for the freezer. Have been doing it in the slowcooker recently, tis YUM.

Daisy hope you are ok for your op.

merry my friends second did that sleep regression thing. At 11 monthhs he just changed to having big naps and in bed by 6:30, so go figure. 11 months may seem like a long way off at the mo, though, so I hope M imprves before then.

Imi is sitting quite high in the wrap sling now, with her top half out, IYKWIM. I can recommend using one of those wooden pram chains/dummy chains on a sling to keep hold of hats. Babies like to chew them, but they will be gettting to the age where they will start to remove thier hats!

Tegan, I'm sure he'd be ok in the buggy, but is it the really compact one? It's quite upright with no recline, isn't it? That's the only thing I would hesitate about, as he may not sleep too well when out and about.

Hope everyone has sleeping babies!

Ceebee74 · 10/03/2009 20:42

Chocolategal we got this one - it comes in different colours/patterns. We haven't actually got it yet as the store didn't have it in stock so they have ordered it for us so should have it by early next week. I am sure they will let you try the Bumbo - it is in their interests that you buy it isn't it?

Tinkerisdead · 10/03/2009 20:48

It always makes me laugh when ive been away from here, things ive been thinking have always already been discussed. like i know sophie would prefer the pushchair attachment on pram instead of carrycot, but i cant bear to swap it over as that means my baby is a big girl she has already taken to sleeping facing me, legs straddled on either side of my thigh arms around me. arghhhh i want to cradle my baby and she wont have it.

PinkyMinxy · 10/03/2009 20:50

Lol ceebee DS used to squish his bum into our bumbo when DD1 was a baby. v.funny. Unfortuately she was a very early roller, and being smaller than ds was could rol herself out of the bumbo, so it went on ebay.

Can I recommend tripptrapp high chairs? we're buying another one next month. They really are fab, fit right up to the table and very safe for toddlers to climb in and out of.
