honeymoon ha ha I thought that too and nearly posted that about BLW!!!??? But you did it first

I weaned DD1 at 4 months but then csws will know how anal I am and organised I thought I had to do it so I knew she would be ok plus she appeared ready for it and she was. Also did the baby rice with dd1 at 5 weeks to help her sleep but to be honest she slept well anyway. I never really knew mumsnet then and went by parents and inlaws advice.

NOt sure what to do this time as heard to wait til 6 months when you can just give them most things other than honey and some other stuff (cant quite remember) as no dairy at 4months. Really depends on when DD2 needs it. TBH I am in no hurry, I was sooo anal with DD1 and thought the milestones had to be reached at certain times and really dont want to be too over the top with DD2. DD1 already has some of my OCD trates! Told her to hurry up the other day as we were late doing something and she said "I can't I have to finish tidying up first"!!!! and she even lined the gloves up in H&M in to order

Have some weaning stuff from HV so will have a look at that and will also join that club ronshar
By the way what hight chari do you have ronshar? I havea gracco one coming, it was on offer in mothercare and its pink

Honeymoonmummy · 09/02/2009 22:01

Oh god I'm depressed now. So I have to research and decide the best way to wean too??? Does it ever stop????? Is there 5 ways to potty-train????????

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/02/2009 22:05

You mean that you haven't read up on EC (elimination communication) honeymoon? You might have missed the window for that method of potty training .

Shoot. Me. Now.

C'mon CSWS, give it to me. What do I need to know about weaning in a nutshell?

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/02/2009 22:20

Skip baby rice - bleurrghhh!
Give em real food - cook your own stuff without salt and let her have some of that, pureed if you want to go that way (or start early), or as it is.
Just about anything can be given as finger food, but be prepared for mess.
They don't need food until they are 1. Before that it's just about experiencing tastes and getting used to chewing etc.
Try to enjoy it and not get stressed. If she doesn't want to eat then just take her out of her highchair and try again another time.

heather1980 · 09/02/2009 22:32

i'm gonna give BLW a go this time. dd had puree from 21 weeks and it was a total pain, so alex is getting finger foods.
although kennedy ate really well, she would only ever eat cold food, in fact she still only eats cold food. strange child lol.

SmudgeyDoodle · 09/02/2009 22:33

CSWS - you forgot one - give them spag bol and make sure you have a camera ready

heather1980 · 09/02/2009 22:35

lol i have a lovely piccy of dd eating spag bol, it's everywhere!

aubergenie · 09/02/2009 22:40

I'm planning on doing blw as well.

BTW - new pic of ds on profile.

Off to bed. Wishing everyone some good sleep.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/02/2009 07:45

Ah, we did beetroot rather than spag bol. My thread about it is here. (There used to be a small pic displayed in that section.)

Ds refused to let us fed him once he was 9 months old and wanted to do it himself. THAT was messy as he was having purees. The spoon frustrated him so he used to get really angry, throw it on the floor and use his hands. Sometiems he would pick the bowl up and put it on his head. Hurrah! We have a picture of him looking like the Phantom of the Opera with half a mask of orange puree. Mmmmmmm....

I fancy BLW this time as it seems like the most 'natural' method. I doubt cavemen mashed up carrots and butternut squash for their babies and we haven't really evolved since then! I also know that my DD is very strong willed, even more than DS, so if she doesn't want food she won't eat it.

I meant to ask.....has anyone else's DC started sticking their tounge out a lot? Martha sticks hers out and wiggles it around. I think she is rubbing it on her sore gums....

Myjob - awww how cute! Martha has started babbling properly now but no raspberries yet! Also, Martha has started that nonsense too with the feeding. She wants to look around all the time and plays when she should be eating. She has a fun new 'game', she latches on, starts eating then pulls her head right back, lets go with a 'pop' then grins at me. Yay, not painfully at all!

I'm with the Laziness Led Weaning! DS1 we started at 17 weeks as he was starving, FF on hungry baby formula he was drinking pints and pints - so I get grief for weaning early - DS2, left it till 6 months as he wasn't bothered, never drank more than a 7 oz bottle etc - and got grief for leaving it too late! (HV - "well you haven't got time to do this slowly - new flavours everyday and you need to be on finger foods in 4 weeks" )You can't win!
You know your baby best and I think you can tell when they need more than just milk however you're feeding them.
I'm a poorly bunny today, felt sick for about 3 days now - if i didn't know better i'd think it was morning sickness

I'm not even going to mention it to DH, he might just possibly have a heart attack!

Marthasmama · 10/02/2009 14:48

I agree with Pepper, your baby will let you know. DS screamed the house down every time we ate in front of him at three months. The HV saw this behaviour and suggested that we wean him early. We gave him his first baby rice at 15 weeks oh the HV's advice. He got very excited everytime he saw his little bowl! DD is very different, we can wait with her no worries.

Myjob - isn't the babbling just adorable! Not dso much at 3 in the morning though...... I've had to start using my nipple cream again as they're red raw.

Honeymoonmummy · 10/02/2009 17:43

Thanks for the advice CSWS, sorry, I went to bed after my last posting, I think the stress of all the choices was just too much for me So the choice is basically mash things up or dont??? And there are no real health implications either way?

I've had a nightmare today, I got the renitadine and domperidon and paed didnt give a dose, said he'd put it in a letter. I rang yesterday to ask for letter by email so I could get started, heard nothing so I rang again today and they said I'd get the letter in 2-3 WEEKS!!! Bear in mind this is private and with NHS the appt was in 4 weeks last week!!! Needless to say I had a few words... she's on 1ml of each, we're starting it tomorrow. I'm so excited!!! [HMM goes off to get a life]
