Quite right to focus on how amazing your baby is eddie!

Mine is normally amazing for all sorts of reasons but this morning he's an amazing PITA and we've been awake half the night. Someone tell me this is a 7 and a half month stage that'll quickly pass!

How are the poorly babies this morning?

spongebrainbigpants · 17/02/2009 08:03

Morning all! Did I have a wonderful dream last night . . . . ?!

Well, we tackled the sleep thing head on last night and finally plucked up the courage to do CC. Just went in every 5 mins to comfort but no picking up or anything. He cried from 12.30am til 1am and then from 4.50am to 5am. Then slept through til 7.45am. Not bad!

Dh did it all and is now exhausted but we decided that if we have any chance of coping with the next 8 mths and beyond then we need to sort this now.

BDQ, sorry you've had a rough night. .

Congratulations sponge!!!. Here's some more cotton wool to wrap around you and your little baby

pleasechange · 17/02/2009 08:19

x-posted sponge. Yes, your news is certainly incentive to get that sleep sorted out! Sounds like your first night of cc went well. Alexander woke for a feed 3 times last night

spongebrainbigpants · 17/02/2009 08:24

Thanks allnew and thanks for the extra cotton wool!

3 times? Wow! That's rough .

sponge! Am so happy for you! Am not going to cry because I actually put on makeup today but am fighting the tears! Great news and I am really really cheering for you!

We read the Times article too but not energetic enough to do much about it (every night? my goodness! we were doing that when we were trying for Fraser and it was too much!).

and LOL at essie's conversion techniques!

Amberc · 17/02/2009 09:21

Hi all, Sponge what terrific news for you - just goes to show how amazing the human body is. I wonder if anyone else is PG but just not telling yet! (Not me that's for sure!!). I bet you are so relieved that you don't need to go through all the IVF stuff. Tis early days but you have so many positive vibes coming from all of us - please don't desert us for an ante natal thread!!

I'm off work again today sick. Took Luke to nursery because Mark was too ill to get out of bed and then found that he had gone to work by the time I got home. Typical. I am now off to bed to get some rest. I hope this bloody illness goes by tommorow - I know how the morning sickness crew must have felt. Luke seems to be OK though. Slept well but no idea about nappies as there was no pooey one to change this morning - maybe a good sign.

DebInAustria · 17/02/2009 09:24

Morning everyone -

definitely a phase BDQ

Sponge - sounds like a v good night for 1st attempt at CC.

Allnew - sorry you've had a rough night

Abdn - make up eh? What are you up to today then?

Hope poorly babies are feeling better this morning

Ethan is sleeping better now he's in the boys bedroom. We don't disturb him when we go to bed and I can ignore him in there a little more easily. He still cries a few times in the night but only fleetingly iykwim, and he didn't wake up properly until 5.40 today so that was good. I brought him into bed for a feed and we both slept until the alarm.

Snowing here very heavily, had about 15 cms over night and I think the storm is set to stay for a few days. Cannot keep on top of the snow clearing, went out at 7.30 and by 8.30 you couldn't see what I'd done.

Thanks Ali for helping us out with the webcam last night.

DebInAustria · 17/02/2009 09:25

Amber - hope you feel better soon, sounds like Luke is better too.

neenztwinz · 17/02/2009 09:29

lol Essie - I was going to write very much the same thing!! God is great, it took him a while to sort things out for you Sponge but it was all part of his Great Plan . Wow, that sounds pretty good with the CC, not too traumatic at all. One or maybe two more nights and he should be sleeping through [hope]

Was it Poppy or Ali saying their LO was refusing to open their mouth for food? I give the DTs a spoon or their beaker to play with and it usually does the trick (Theo refuses to eat his porridge till he gets his spoon!)

I read the Times article too and went to bed last night thinking 'I am glad we are not doing that have sex every day thing'! I think we are doing ok on that score anyway but not as good as pre-twins. Weekends always used to be a banker but now they just come and go and we don't get chance to talk never mind anything else!

Glad Luke is better today Amber and hoping you feel better soon.

We had a much better night's sleep last night. They had been waking twice each but last night Theo slept through and E woke just once (at 4am). I abandoned the finger food tea and gave them loads of sweet potato instead. Seemed to do the trick and has made me sure now that food DOES affect their sleep!

bitofadramaqueen · 17/02/2009 09:44

Quick plea - anyone had any success with any baby cough medicines? A has terrible cough now. Bless him.

DebInAustria · 17/02/2009 09:45

I used a Tixlix one but it didn't do much tbh -sorry

DebInAustria · 17/02/2009 09:46

is there a benylin baby one?

PiggyPenguin · 17/02/2009 10:05

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

Just popped on to check up on people and saw your news Sponge

I am so thrilled for you. Actually I feel quite teary. It's amazing, and I hope you don't mind my saying so but very exciting for all of us not just you, now we all get to live the pregnancy thing vicariously through you again!

poppy34 · 17/02/2009 10:42

sponge still smiling for you

and amber if I were this up the duff, this is the one place I would tell . am sorry you're still poorly -but if isn't well enough to take luke to nursery wtf is he doing going into work? I tell you I would not be very grateful to have some twit job dedicated colleague passing round norovirus.

re essie, it just shows he is inventive...apparently crawling backwards is quite normal.

neenz was me re teh not opening mouth -will try beaker/spoon at lunch..managed an ok breakfast thanks to distrations of tv.

bdq there is a calcough - its unopened in cupboard sonot sure what good it does.

bitofadramaqueen · 17/02/2009 10:50

Thanks Deb for confirmation that its a phase and for cough medicine comments. I think the benylin one might have been withdrawn along with medised etc last year. I'm not convinced about cough medicines generally so was just hoping someone had a good experience...

I have got some medised so if he's still bad tonight I'll give him some of that. Although it didn't have much of an effect last time . I can't believe he's full of the cold again - it's been pretty non stop since November. Although obviously norovirus type things are much worse, so apologies for complaining to those dealing with properly poorly babies.

Amber hope you feel better soon.

DH has taken S to some friends for the day, the assignment I've been muttering about the last few days is due in today, so wish me luck!

poppy34 · 17/02/2009 10:52

sorry bdq -agree with phase thing... we still have the amazing alert baby on and off.. how she can keep awake and we can't I don't know...

bitofadramaqueen · 17/02/2009 11:10

Oh I know poppy - he's been completely hyper despite being awake half the night. Unfortunately, when he did go down for a nap his cough kept waking him up. Hoping he'll get a good sleep in the car. I have no idea where they get there energy from - probably all the top quality nutritious food we cook for them and not ourselves

neenztwinz · 17/02/2009 11:17

Probably, BDQ .

AliandHerScallywag · 17/02/2009 13:29

Know what you mean about their endless energy. How can a baby be awake half the night and wake up smiling and full of beans when I feel like the living dead? I am sure they are meant to need more sleep than us...

pureeandpearls · 17/02/2009 13:56

BDQ babypearls has had a hacking cough for two weeks- I have tried all the cough syrups allowed for her age group and found.........that nothing works! Sorry. Have propped up her cot and put on the Tixylix inhaler thing and she usually makes it through the night. She's drinking more, eating less, producing snot that would make fantastic wallpaper paste, but still coughing. Send big hugs.

Glad you got webacam sorted Debs.

Amber- feel better soon sweetie, and at M for making work but not the nursery run.

Oh, and Sponge, send virtual cotton wool- guessing the stuff from last night is all flat and needs changing!!

bitofadramaqueen · 17/02/2009 14:04

Thanks puree. I thought that would be the case. Will get the snufflebabe any medised out I think. Roll on summer eh?

bitofadramaqueen · 17/02/2009 14:40

Paro - I've discovered some thermal pots for sale here, so no need to go to the trouble of posting. Found them completely by accident! Typical. Many thanks though for offering to get me some and posting them.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 17/02/2009 15:11

Sympathies with all the ill babies. Sebastian is well on the mend so if he is not sick or producing dodgy nappies between now and Thursday he can go to nursery, and I cango and start getting all the crap stuff that I have left behind at my parents who are moving next month.

Today i have taken Edie to the Castle and she has had her face painted and has tried her hand at some circus skills so going back tomorrow to see his show.

Amberc · 17/02/2009 15:16

I read an article about baby cough medicines saying that nothing was effective and sugar syrup had exactly the same effect. I think when they are older and understand 'medicine' the placebo effect takes hold but for now it's something we have to put up with. Luke has a constant hacking cough as they keep reinfecting each other at nursery but thankfully when he coughs in the night he goes straight back to sleep. We tried tixylix but it did nothing.

Still feel like death warmed up.

Was thinking about Sponge and wondering if what they say is true that sometimes when people stop thinking about getting pregnant they just do because they are under less stress.
