New home!

Also we are stopping with trying to feed DS with purees. He is quite content on milk at the moment and when he can sit we will start with BLW, he does like feeding himself but chokes (because he can't sit) and it is stressful trying to get him to open his mouth to try and shove the stuff in.

pleasechange · 01/02/2009 16:27

fivegomad that's great about the sleep last night

I'll join the non-sleepers. A woke approx 5 times last night , so ali and amber I feel your pain

I'm another one going back to work this week - on Wednesday. I haven't really confronted it in my head iykwim, and will probably keep my head in the sand until it actually happens. I hope whoever who said the thought of it was worse than the reality, was right. Given A's current sleeping patterns tho, I'll be shattered

PiggyPenguin · 01/02/2009 19:00

Hugs to everyone suffering from lack of sleep, and yay!!!!!! to Josey for how well Olivia's doing.

J has his first temperature. He has a cold (and is tugging his ear but fingers crossed not an infection), the temp isn't too bad, just over 37 so haven't resorted to calpol yet in case it gets worse and I need it further down the line. (J has never had calpol so am also worried he'll react and dh is away and its snowing...) So, he's refused all food - well ok, the minimal amount of yoghurt he normally has - and is also not bfeeding well. It's not going to be a good night is it?

Amberc · 01/02/2009 20:02

Blimey - it's like Antarctica out of my window! There are children pelting their dad with snowballs - mad!

Thanks for sleep sympathy. I'm gonna take 2 diazapam tonight as I'm crapping myself about work tomorrow especially as I now have to take Luke to nursery in a blizzard and all the transport is bound to be screwed up right? Please sleep Luke please!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done Josie for Oli - she's a little belter!

Aberdeen - what's the weather like in Scotland? It's -1 at the mo in Greenwich.

All those with good sleepers !!!!

Rolf · 01/02/2009 20:29

Good luck all those returning to work

When I returned to work after DS2 was born, DH had to literally push me out of the house. I had some office ID photos taken that day (new job as well as back to work!) and the bags under my eyes were bigger than my eyes.

abdnhiker · 01/02/2009 20:47

No snow here yet - actually it's +1 and no precipitation. It feels like we never get the same weather as the rest of the country. They are forecasting snow though.

Amber, hugs and fingers crossed Luke sleeps!

Hugs to everyone heading back to work. I remember going back after DS1 and being very tired but for those of us with desk jobs it's actually easier to be tired at a desk than with an active baby at home.

And three cheers for Oli...

josey · 01/02/2009 20:57

AH must be slightly warmer over my way we were +3 earlier but you can feel the snow in the air.

Took Oli swimming for the 1st time today and after the shock she just lay back and floated, seemed very happy. Hopefully get her going ona regular basis try and help her musscles.

Thank you for the cheeres for Oli she has made me so proud its fantastic what she has managed to do so far.

Special sand man dust for all our babies tonight xxxx

AliandHerScallywag · 01/02/2009 21:59

Here, here...welldone Oli, and good luck to those returning to work tomorrow in the snow (and with non sleeping babies, Amber)

Sponge are you around? Will send you and email too. We already have a blanket of snow on the ground and it is meant to carry on all night. I am currently thinking it would be a silly idea to come and see you and Alex tomorrow if this keeps up.

I had lunch with my BF from work today and caught up on the office politics and gossip. It was all very amusing and enjoyable, but also reminded me about what is less good about the office. Feeling ever more confused about what I want to do.

vivaGlasvegas · 01/02/2009 22:41

allnew/HH I'm another one too, I'm going back to work on wednesday. C is going to nursery tomorrow as her first full day. am going to have to keep myself occupied, as I currently keep bursting into tears.

josey sounds like Oli is doing amazingly!

5gomad no teeth here yet either, and minimal unsupported sitting without pitching forward onto her face randomly. C does love standing while holding onto us though - so pleases with herself!

DebInAustria · 02/02/2009 07:57

How is everyone? Amber - how are you managing? I see on tv that London is chaos with the snow. Maybe your 1st day back will be tomorrow

HH - your 1st day back too I think?

Take care everyone

AliandHerScallywag · 02/02/2009 08:16

Hi Deb,

Well nothing compared to what you are used to, but about a foot of snow has fallen here overnight. Peter woke up alot last night so I got to check progress regularly . Been awake since 4.30 watching the news.

pureeandpearls · 02/02/2009 09:04

So there are no trains running in to London from us, no buses, no tubes so don't imagine you're getting in for your first day of work! Sadly because the commute from the bedroom to the study is running without problems. I just left babyp at nursery (5 doors down from the house) and she was the only child there though they were expecting more. Over a foot of snow in the garden so the dog was buried up to her nose!

Amber- you'll be delighted to know that I had a sh!t night....babyp woke with the cold so in the end I brought her in with us.

Sorry, morning all- hope you are enjoying the snow. It' so quiet and beautiful I almost want to weep!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 02/02/2009 09:33

It's so beautiful outside! There's no school for the girls today so I've invited couple of foiends round for them, shall hire a dvd and buy a party lunch.

DS had a really bed night probably due to it being so cold.

DP has gone into work and I'm sure he'll be snowed in as it will be getting worse. Freinds DH works for the underground and h's nevr known it to be so bad, it's his job to mange the underground at times like this so he knows!

pleasechange · 02/02/2009 10:01

viva I also keep bursting into tears when I think about leaving A all day. Thinking of you!

I guess amber and HH are in work today - if you both managed to get in? Lots of luck and I hope it goes ok

DH is off work today - I was in the shower and he was yelling for me to come into the bedroom to help because A had a very messy nappy. I was furious as got out of the shower dripping wet and had come running into the bedroom. He (DH, not A!) is now still in bed, and I've got A fed, given him milk, down for a nap, have washed all the bottles and done the laundry. Am seriously

MoooCow · 02/02/2009 11:00

Morning all. Jelous of those with snow, We very rarely get snow that sticks here. I hear London is chaos, DP stuck in Reading on his way to London.
Well, we moved LO in with big sis, night one went well, last night all went well until 5.30 this morning, Big girl shouting 'Mummy!' woke LO, so we have all been up since then, feeling very grumpy I think it going to be one of those days, explosive poo all over bodysuit, whilst she was nuddy did a wee on the carpet. Dropped the butter on the floor. Oh well
Good luck all those returning to work today(if you got there!), and this week. Im not due back for 7 weeks, but already it makes me feel sick the thought of it. Still not 100% Im going back, still not too sure about childcare/if its worthwhile.
3rd tooth appeared yesterday Big top front one, looks HUGE!
Enjoy the snow! Good sleep vibes to those suffering, I know your pain

systemsaddict · 02/02/2009 11:06

Whew made it into work half an hour late after slipsliding very very slowly up to the car (s*dding on-street parking miles away) with 2 small people being held very very tightly! Hope those going back today haven't been too screwed up by the weather!!

Very broken nights here recently too, we did have one where she only woke up once but no joy since. But we stayed at DPIL for a couple of nights in the week for great-nan's funeral, so C was mainly in bed with me for that, and I think that's thrown her right off - it's so much nicer in the big bed with mummy and daddy, she is no fool. Plus she has two enormous whole-tooth-shaped lumps on the front of her top gum which can't be helping either.

My SIL has just sent me a big parcel including a Christmas card and a load of 3-6 month clothes that my niece has outgrown

pureeandpearls · 02/02/2009 14:24

Systems- you rock. I had to commute from bed to sitting room and still haven't got any work done. I have:

  1. had a massive cookathon for babypearls- I made her risotto. Her. Not us. I stood and stirred for 20 minutes to make the world's smallest portion of risotto. I am mad.
  2. I have sorted through my entire wardrobe and put half of it in a pile to eBay/charidee (getting our bedroom decorated so need to empty wardrobes so they can be ripped out!).
  3. I finally unpacked the last boxes from our move six months ago.
  4. walked to Waitrose for bread and milk, then played in the snow with the dog.
  5. had lunch with my beloved who can't get into work today due to the whole no-trains thing.
  6. cursed the fact that our new camera hasn't arrived- I could have eBayed the ever-growing pile of stuff in study.
  7. Done three loads of laundry!

Amazing how much you get done when you don't want to do stuff!

Debs- you must be wetting yourself at how poorly the UK is dealing with the snow!!!

DebInAustria · 02/02/2009 14:45

Puree - we've been watching UK news and you get caught up in the excitement of it! The difference is that Austria know it will snow and is prepared, cars have winter tyres with deeper thread etc etc.....I still don't like driving in it though.

feeling sorry for myself with yet another blocked duct - have just applied topfen - like Quark, but i just smell funny - can't see any benefit!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/02/2009 14:59

I have put my first item of clothing on ebay and that is about it today. I am amazed we had snow down here, fingers crossed that the trains are working on Wednesday when I go to Oxford.

whinegums · 02/02/2009 15:04

Hiya, we have snow but not very deep so far. Not planning on going out in it anyway. Had a truly rubbish night last night, lost count of how many times B woke up, but I fed him three times.

Hope all of those at work/going back are coping. Special hello to Vivaglasvegas for that one.

I have just booked a short break to Madrid for the three of us in March. Am I mad?? I've posted a thread on travel-shorthaul for any tips. We have to fly via Heathrow, with BA. I don't really rate them above any other airline now tbh, but they're still better than Ryanair or Easyjet I think. Have any of you flown BA with a baby, and how was it? And if any of you have any tips for Madrid, please share!

Puree, sounds you have achieved a lot this morning - PMSL laughing about the risotto, you alpha mummy you. Slummy mummy here pureed yesterday's Sunday dinner leftovers for Barnaby (have to say he loves it though).

Deb, that's rough with the blocked ducts, I know I've been lucky so far not to have anything like that. Hope it gets better soon, with or without the help of dairy products.

Allnew, hope your day (and your DH) has improved.

systemsaddict · 02/02/2009 15:25

Well puree, I may appear to be a highly-motivated worky-type career-focused person, dragging us in like that, but actually the real reason I forced myself to drive in was that I couldn't bear the thought of ds missing out on playing in the snow with all his mates at nursery!! The sight of snow outside stopped a full-on toddler meltdown in its tracks today (I had dared to move the kitchen cloth before he had finished wiping the table, naughty mummy).

Even Caitlin has been benefiting today, they brought trays of clean snow into the babyroom for them to play with - apparently she had a great time rubbing it into her sore gums!

I on the other hand have been really struggling with a writing task I started before going off on mat. leave and now have no memory of whatsoever, and would have been much better off at home cooking risotto.

systemsaddict · 02/02/2009 15:28

just looked at your list again puree - how on earth did you fit all that into a morning, it would take me a week!

pureeandpearls · 02/02/2009 17:15

Procrastination, systems- works every time. That and a tube of mini-eggs!!

ahedgehogisHibernating · 02/02/2009 18:05

Haven't read all the posts now that I am back at work.

Luckily manager was snowed in so had to amuse myself until I finally got computer access at 4pm . Then had 2500 emails to delete before mum, DH and Isaac arrived to pick me up at 4.50.

Isaac seemed to have had fun at the CM and has drunk 2 7oz bottles of EBM and had a normal sized feed when we got home.

Had a lovely moment when I went out for lunch earlier - all the schools in Surrey were off, so I walked past a group of girls who all wished me a happy snow day. I also saw a man in shorts [mad].

amber hope your first day was as non eventful as mine

pleasechange · 02/02/2009 18:17

HH glad your first day back went ok. That's nice that DH and Isaac were there to meet you

I'm wondering if I will have any systems access set up for Weds - hopefully not and they'll let me go home early
