Hello all and hope first days haven't been too bad.

DS's godfather has just sprung a aurprise visit on us as he is over from Germany, he finally has his diary and asked if we could go and see him in March but it is going to cost us £700 for all of us so will have a major chat with DH later, we are also going to Ireland to see DD's Godfather in July whic is £250 for all of us so might just have to suck it up and do it.

ahedgehogisHibernating · 02/02/2009 19:04

allnew the reason it took so long was the 'nominated deputy' who was my ML cover had sent the wrong form, then asked for the wrong access, and when I pointed this out she became all defensive, as though I couldn't possibly know what I was walking about - NO I only ran that branch for 2 years, and have been with the company for 6 - she started as a temp 18 months ago

Despite the fact that he has now left me to go into London for his sales confidence he had been to Tesco and bought some fresh filled pasta and tomato and mascapone sauce as well as lemon meringue pie for pudding, all my fav food . But I have made Isaac have bread sticks and rice cakes with philly rather than share

Hello all, what a nightmare I had today. No way to get to nursery so got Mark to drive us which took forever. It was closed (they didn't call us) so Mark took Luke home as he had the day off thankfully. I tried to get into the office - the tube was 20 deep it was awful. I did finally get there and hardly anyone had managed it. I should have gone home! I just don't know what to expect tomorrow. Also Luke did not heed my prayer and was up at 1.30, 3 and then from 4 onwards - what is wrong with him?????? It was all I could do to keep my eyes open.

Those of you who have used the HC cream on eczema, where was it situated? Luke's is on his face. I bought two different ones today and both of them say that you cannot use it on the face. Any experiences? I am sure it must be in case it gets into the eyes but I think it thins the skin do not sure what to do. hmmmm.

I am so tired I can't respond to everyone;s posts but to those who started at work today and those who are going back this week - best of British.

spongebrainbigpants · 02/02/2009 21:27

Quick post - HH, good that all went well.

Amber, I'm so sorry to hear about your day - I did wonder whether you would go in at all. Did Mark manage alright with Luke for the day? Can you get any expert advice on the sleep - I'm going to ask my HV if there is any help from them in sleep 'training' for want of a better word, but if you afford it I'm sure you can pay for people to do these things.

Hope tomorrow is better weather wise anyway - if not, can you not stay at home?

Amber, sorry to hear about your horrible day. I guess tomorrow can only be an improvement.

Peter's eczema is on his face too, so we have used HC cream on his cheeks in tiny tiny amounts. However this is on prescription from the dr. I know your dr was difficult about it, but I wouldn't be brave enough to use it if it wasn't prescribed as the leaflet with the cream frightens me as it is. Our cream is ok for the face accordingly to the leaflet. HC creams do thin the skin which is why extra caution is needed on thinner skin like the face. You also need to be careful with nostrils, eyes, mouth etc where the skin is more sensitive. Somone I know who is now 40 used too much HC cream as a child on her face and now gets sun burnt very easily as a result. Do be careful Amber. Hope that helps.

HH glad your day was ok.

neenztwinz · 02/02/2009 22:17

Hi all, not been around for a few days, sorry to hear of everyone's awful nights and going back to work.

I have been a bit low... they couldn't do the biopsy on grandma cos her blood was too thin but they did a scan and found two 'masses' on her bladder and bowel and they think it is most probably cancer in her bladder and either another tumour or a blockage in her bowel. If it is just a blockage and it clears then she might be OK for a bit longer but if it is a tumour in the bowel she is screwed cos they won't let her eat. They are just talking about making her more comfortable now and we are not even sure she will ever come out of hospital now . I was very teary this morning but she seems OK, very philisophical and she is a Christian so does not fear death. It is all a bit up in the air, one days she is realkly bad and the next she is quite bright, and we are still not entirely sure what is wrong cos they can't do the biopsy.

Amber, at least Mark was forced to take Luke for the day. How did he do?

Theo and Esther are OK, got another tooth each and I think they are struggling a bit with it, so I keep giving them Calpol or Ibuprofen. Either one or other tends to wake up once in the night (they only both slept through once last week) - it is not too bad but I find if I am up in the night I get very tired by bathtime the next day and it is hard work doing two.

I really like the new MN but some people seem to be having problems like having to scroll across to read text. I don't have to do that

FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/02/2009 22:17

Decided we are going to drive to Germany, doesn't take much longer than flying and cheaper.

ahedgehogisHibernating · 02/02/2009 22:41

All those waiting for teeth, just a thought before I retire for the night, one of the girls I work with's DD is 1 in 3 weeks and still doesn't have a tooth, SO we shouldn't be too worried that our LO's don't have them yet.

neenztwinz · 02/02/2009 22:50

Yeah my nephew was more than one before he got his first tooth, he now has two and he is 14mo.

ErnestTheBavarian · 03/02/2009 05:48

hello, after exchanging words with a couple of you lot I've been tempted to pop back in and say hello

So sorry to read about your grandma neenz. It's even worse not having a definate dx. Wishing you and your family all the strength you need to get through this, and your dear nan too of course xx

Dorset - where in Germany are your driving to? We drove at Christmas. Funnily enough,on the ferry we met a couple who live near Christchurch, dad German, mum british & they were driving back to dorset after a Christmas visit in DE. I prefer the drive to flying, esp with kids. Overall journey time is a bit longer, but not that much in it, and it is so much less stressful. Long and boring but not stressful. If you want any tips just ask.
Saying that, on Saturday (snow willing ) I'm flying back to UK - just me and Adele woo hoo.

How is everyone? Any great news?

Or all you all still stuck in. Watched the news last night - a whole hour and they only talked about snow, hilarious. Then they showed kids sledging down the hill on what basically looked like a heavy frost. Madness. The whole country grinding to a halt. Ahh, good old Britain

So how are all the little nippers?

Can't believe Adele will be 8 months old in a week Where has it gone?

So, my dd
cannot sit
hates eating (puree) or being fed, but will suck on eat finger food
can roll over onto tummy 99%, just can't get the last arm out from under her.
Chats bloody loudly
cut her first tooth last night!

At her 6 month check (done at 7 months) dr shined torch on her gums and said he could see them and they'd be about a month, and hey presto

OMG hold the front page live on air - she has just this second rolled over the whole way, arm and everything Thanks guys - clearly I should pop in more often, she'll be up and walking before I know it!

Amberc · 03/02/2009 06:46

Ha - Luke slept last night - thank gawd for that. Gonna try and get in again today. Things look much better travel wise (although it is impossible to wheel a pram through 6 inches of snow) so if I got in yesterday I can get in today. Mark coped very well yesterday but of course did not feed him any solids. I got home at 4.30 and Luke slept for 2.5 hours so it was a doddle for him - just 5 hours of activity!

PS Luke's poo is black today! Very strange.

Hi Ernest - welcome back!

pureeandpearls · 03/02/2009 07:15

Good luck Amber, and FANTASTIC news about the much-needed sleep!

Hey Ernest

Babyp has just projectile-vomited her whole bottle all over us both. Yuck! Why does milk smell so disgusting?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 03/02/2009 08:41

Hi Ernest

Good to see you again. DS's Godfatehr is based in Herford which is near Hanover. We have done the AA route map and from DH's brothers house in Kent should take 7 hours which is not bad. GF left at 2 yesterda morning and arrived here at 6 but 6 hours of that was on the M25 so it should be reasonable and better than spending a fortune or having to drive to Stanstead.

How are you doing anyway and how is your lovely daughter?

DebInAustria · 03/02/2009 08:48

HI everyone

Welcome back Ernest - way to go adele

Amber - hope you have a better day

HH - how thoughtful of your dh to get you your favourite things for tea.

Still struggling here, had a really bad night, feverish, shivering at the same time. Went to bed at 9.00, Ethan was awake at 12, and 5 but I saw every hour with my sore boob! Trying the cabbage leaves today and still feeling crap. It is excruciating to feed Ethan on the sore boob, I was biting on a muslin cloth to stop myself shouting out, unfortunately Ethan thinks it's hilarious , and smiles, then bites. I think the next feed I might feed just from the other side and express from the sore one. It's all self induced too - I've tracked this back to scrubbing the bath yesterday and I was leaning over and squashing my boob. I think I need to wear a cage around them!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 03/02/2009 08:54

And Adele souns like Seb except he has no teeth.

ErnestTheBavarian · 03/02/2009 09:40

ouch deb, sounds horrid. So far I haven't been bitten. Not looking forward to Adele's broken gum translating into a real live sharp tooth. Hope your bosom recovers deb.

PiggyPenguin · 03/02/2009 09:52

Jamie too still won't eat (not even yoghurt now sigh), although he has sucked a bit of melon today. Still no teeth, but a temperature, sore throat and being a complete misery.

Kids thrilled to get another snow day, but given I had less rthan 4 hrs sleep last night, I could have done with school to be honest.

PiggyPenguin · 03/02/2009 09:57

deb, that sounds really sore, I often get this too and find the best thing is to pump the breast empty, but move the pump around until you feel it pulling on the blocked duct - its not comfy but it does work if you get trhe positioning right.

pureeandpearls · 03/02/2009 10:07

Poor Debs- am clamping my boobs to my chest just reading that, and I gave up BFing almost six months ago!!

DebInAustria · 03/02/2009 10:23

Thanks for the sympathy, I will try to pump it off Sybil - thanks for the tips.Sorry Jamie's not so well.

DebInAustria · 03/02/2009 10:24

Sybil - do you just pump from that breast and feed from the other?

Rolf · 03/02/2009 10:38

So sorry about your grandma, Neenz. Wishing you all strength.

Ernest - great to see you . I saw on another thread that you're moving back to the UK. How exciting (but don't know how you keep sane with all this moving).

Glad Amber and HHHH got first day at work over with.

Had a terrible night last night. Thea was up a few times but DD1 was awake half the night. I'm knackered and seriously bedraggled - wierd rashes on face and hands, general crapness all round

PiggyPenguin · 03/02/2009 14:59

Deb, I generally try and feed from the breast and then pump it really empty. It depends on the pain factor really!

neenztwinz · 03/02/2009 15:40

Thanks Rolf, feeling really low today, just been to see her and I think she had a little stroke while we were there cos she was slurring her words and couldn't work her mobile. My mum and dad were there too and they stayed on after visiting to speak to a doc.

I don't know if it is just gran or also the twins too but I just feel like I can't be bothered with anything at the moment, the drudgery of looking after Theo and Esther every day, the endless nappy changes, cooking, feeding, cleaning up, washing, ironing etc... it is like Groundhog day and even writing it I can see how silly I am being cos they are an absolute pleasure and not a bit of trouble (they are happily playing on the rug at my feet as I type) and I am so lucky to have them and lucky to be able to stay at home but the thought of making their tea (again) and then cleaning up (again) and then doing bathtime (again) is making me feel a bit depressed.

But actually having written all that I feel better already. I think I can see how silly I am being and actually now I am quite looking forward to their tea . Maybe I am going a bit mad

Are you still using FB Rolf? I have just searched for you and seen that I have already requested you as a friend - that must have been ages ago!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 03/02/2009 15:51

Thinking of you Neenz.

OK rant of the day. I hate thieving banks. In november DH's wages were lost on cyberspace, we didn't know it at the time and went gaily on holiday consequently went £271 over agreed o/d limit they have finally finished taking out our unauthorised o/d charges and the grand total is..............

£280
