Hi guys, whinegums, sorry you were feeling ignored - Ali and I were talking about your LO today so you definitely weren't forgotten! Alex nearly threw himself down the stairs on Sunday in a moment of inattention so totally get where you're coming from .

Rolf, yep Ali and I are both BLW and were discussing the connection today - however, I have been feeding A purees for the last week or two cos of our dining room being in a state of chaos and only having the bumbo on the kitchen side to feed (BLW feeding can take a long time !) and I can announce the following . . . . . . . [drum roll] . . . it has made no difference to his sleep!

Ho hum!

Peter and Alex were seriously cute today - laughing and smiling at each other. Ali took a brilliant photo too - both of them smiling together!

katyjo, really sorry to hear about your coil - that's bloody unlucky. Hope all is well .

Deb, lol at the crawling tights!

x-posted, sorry about the sleep AH

katyjo · 09/02/2009 19:02

Thanks for all your messages, I'm waiting to hear about my appt, hopefully should just be day surgery and I should get seen in the next few weeks.

whinegums Sorry you were feeling ignored, I've only been scan reading and lurking recently. Hamish fell off the bed loads of times, and once he started moving I seriously considered getting him a boxing head protector, its heartbreaking when they hurt themselves, I always blame myself too!
I'm going back to work soon, so I haven't signed up to the next lot of waterbabies, so tom is our last class

Mia has horrendous nappy rash, she had a touch and then got a case of the runs, and it looks so sore - feeling like a really bad
mother.

abdnhiker · 09/02/2009 19:23

Oh, and like Ali, I'm not concerned, just tired

spongebrainbigpants · 09/02/2009 19:25

Me too, AH, me too!

Whinegums glad you ranted but sorry you feel ignored so often. I know that I am terrible for popping my head round the door, telling you all what I'm doing and legging it again, especially when the PND is particularly bad. My apologies. I'm secretly keeping my fingers crossed for the j-o-b, and add my name to the list of women who wanted to march herself down to the Police Station for being a bad mother when Babypearls fell/slid off the sofa (leather). I still feel the shame now.

Amber- soooo glad you are enjoying being back at work.

Katyjo- eek about coil. And Rolf- why oh why did you mention the Neo/Matrix thing? Now I shall NEVER be able to have a coil

Latest bad mother alert- Babypearls has a hacking cough so have raised the mattress. Went in to her this morning to find her sideways on at the bottom of the cot with her feet resting on one teddy and her head on the other...think I propped the mattress too high?!!!

Amberc · 09/02/2009 20:44

Katyjo - isn't it awful when they get nappy rash? As soon as Luke got it the first time I made sure I always put on cream at every nappy change where I just used to put it on if he was a bit red. I hope it gets better - try to give her botty an airing as much as possible.

Luke is sleeping much better now as i went through the horrific stage just before going back to work. He seems to have settled now. When he's not at nursery at the weekend he now has a 2.5 to 3 hour nap in the morning! Why can't he add that on to the night bit? Still - I just get back in bed myself so not too bad.

Really good news - My sister had a scan today to make sure all her miscarriage had gone and they found that she had twins and the other one is doing fine and very lively! We're so pleased but still holding our breaths to be honest. Fingers crossed this time. Has anyone ever had this happen?

I am getting bored of waiting for Luke to get teeth.

whinegums · 09/02/2009 20:46

I feel better but a bit bad for ranting (the epitome of passive-agressive)! Thanks for all of the messages, and also for sharing the falling stories - that makes me feel a LOT better!

The sleep survey is interesting, but I agree with AH - there must be more than 17% of us up more than twice a night. B has never slept through, the longest he went was for about 6 hours and that was months ago. He did it twice, then we both got cold and we were back to square one.

Systems, dunno about the sleep answers website - I think we're so knackered and desperate for proper sleep that anything that promises to help seems worth a go. Maybe start another thread and see if anyone else on MN has tried them?

Ali, thanks for the tip on Madrid, I am hoping for nice sunny walks, don't mind if it's a bit nippy, but please no rain! Was thinking of AH and Josey when I saw the weather with the temps up north - brrrrrrr! Hope you're snuggly!

Katyjo, sorry you won't be at Waterbabies any more, I was in two minds about signing up again, but went for it, as it's the one baby thing I do with B that I really enjoy. Even if he is not so keen. Another black mark in the bad mummy handbook...

DebInAustria · 09/02/2009 21:06

Katyjo - ouch about your coil - I'm sure it will all be fine. Sounds like the nappy rash could be something she's eaten, don't feel bad

whinegums - glad you're not a flouncer! Good luck with the new job - sounds ideal.

Poppy - maybe they don't do it in France but in Austria and Germany tights for little boys are the done thing!!

lol Puree - at the sloping mattress

Amber - yes, it happened to my friend. She had 2 boys, then a mc, then few months later thought she was miscarrying again, she was boooked in for in early scan the next day. I took her as her dh was in the army and out of the country. So, a miserable drive to the hospital, both of us expecting the worst, and then they said, they could see a viable pregnancy, and one twin had miscarried.I think I cried more than my friend. The viable pregnancy is now a very lively little girl of 3!!

PiggyPenguin · 09/02/2009 21:07

Whinegums, I think we all feel a bit ignored on here sometimes, and I agree that just not posting for a while is often a good way of not letting it bother you too much. I do think it isn't deliberate, it is just unfortunate that it happens that way sometimes. Jamie hasn't fallen off the bed yet but mostly because there isn't room what with the cotbed being jammed against one side and the wall against the other! Ds1 fell off the bed once when I was in the bath and dh was watching football with him. I have always claimed he was responding to his impending doom as a spurs supporter like his dad.

KatyJo, the coil thing is very scary. ACtually the thought of a coil does make me instinctively wince. DH is going to get a vascetomy as I refuse point blank to get one fitted. Too much of a wuss I'm afraid.

DebInAustria · 09/02/2009 21:11

Whinegums - when ds1 was tiny, I went shopping, put him in his car seat, put him in the car, drove home, wasn't until 10 minutes later I realised I hadn't fastened the car seat in. I was absolutely mortified - true bad Mummy moment.

DebInAustria · 09/02/2009 21:13

When I had my coil removed here, the Dr did an internal scan to check it. It was the 1st internal scan I'd had and I mentioned this, he was horrified that I hadn't been scanned after having it inserted in the UK.It's the norm here, would have saved Katyjo a lot of worrying.

DebInAustria · 09/02/2009 21:19

Sybil - -how's the feeding going today?

New photo on profile - check out Ethan's glasses

DebInAustria · 09/02/2009 21:20

Off for a bath now, half term here, so no time to post in the day, trying to make up for it now, you'll be fed up of me!

Rolf · 09/02/2009 21:38

Great picture Deb

Sponge and Ali - Thea isn't interested in puree - she pushes the spoon away with her tongue. I don't know if I should perservere so she at least acquires the skill of managing it with her mouth and tongue. I hand her finger food (eg toast soldiers, fruit, pieces of veg from a stew) and she slobbers on it but doesn't really get much down. I've ordered the book about BLW as I think I need a bit more method, iyswim, but I'm really beginning to think that I need to re-think.

Puree the Neo image just sticks in your head doesn't it?

Neenz - if you're skimming the thread, I'm thinking of you and your grandmother.

spongebrainbigpants · 09/02/2009 21:53

Rolf, Neenz had the twins baptism yesterday so is probably still shattered from that (how many sandwiches?!).

Don't know what to suggest on the feeding front. How long do you leave her to eat? BLW can take a long time! Sometimes it can take ages for Alex to start eating as he starts off by just playing with it. He hates being spoon fed too and purees are a real battle.

On the falling thing, told my mum about Alex tyring to throw himself down the stairs and she said "don't worry, it's only a short flight, he wouldn't have hurt himself that much!" She then went onto say that I fell down two flights of stairs when I was a couple of months older than A is now and I'm fine! Think some of my friends might disagree!

OP posts:
FiveGoMadInDorset · 09/02/2009 21:56

Rolf we have started BLW with S, I don't think there is a method, he is still on 5/6 botles a day, I think at the moment it is just getting them into the idea of putting food in their mouth and chewing/gumming. S hates being spoon fed which is the complete opposite of DD.

What have I done?

Which one of you is it? Come on, fess up?!

HH, what nappies are you buying now? I'm a firm BG fan now and wish that was all I'd bought!

OP posts:
AliandHerScallywag · 09/02/2009 23:08

ahh, Sponge, that made LOL. Sorry...I'm sure it is just a coincidence. Strange kind of a nickname though.

Like the pics Deb. I need to get some baby shades before we go skiing. Any recommendations? I also noted that you now appear to be permanently 39 on your profile . Hope your bath is nice, what do you have planned with the boys for half term?

Rolf. I am v nervous about giving weaning advice to a Mum of 4 ! BLW is fairly anti- method, you let the baby do what it wants when it wants. This requires patience, and the ability not to stress that the baby isn't getting enough. I am constantly plagued by self doubt as to whether I am doing it right. P went through a phase about a week ago of not really being interested in food unless it was preceded by chunks of pear . Then he snapped out of it and ate all sorts. Today he is less bothered again. Try putting a selection of things you are eating in front of Thea and letting her get on with it. The book will do a betterjob of explaining the philosophy than I can manage here. . HTH a bit.

Aberdeen. Know what you mean about lots of the babies on here not sleeping. It compensates for RL where everyone's babies are just about sleeping, and everyone thinks I am nuts for not having done cc yet. I assume that the people on this thread whose babies ARE sleeping stay v quiet about it so that we don't collapse in a heap of sleep deprived . It skews the impression of sleep patterns on the thread as a result.

AliandHerScallywag · 09/02/2009 23:11

Amber - I used to work with someone who was half of twins where only she made it. She is now a v lively 28 year old . Fingers crossed for your sister.

Rolf · 10/02/2009 05:19

Thanks for the weaning advice. Lots of food she can't pick up on her own (eg pear) so I hand it to her. DD1 finds it hilarious to take things off her tray and eat them so constant vigilance is needed! It's reassuring that other babies have an aversion to puree. I was worried that I was stunting her motor skills.

When Thea was sleeping through the night (birth - 4.5 months old) I kept quiet about it on here! I've just got her back in her cot after spending what felt like the whole night feeding her. She's crying again now but I'm going to see if she goes back to sleep.

Amber - hope your sister is ok. That happened to my cousin and the surviving baby was fine.

abdnhiker · 10/02/2009 07:42

Amber, fingers crossed for your sister! I have heard of that happening before and hope it works out!

Deb - have done the not strapping in car seat thing too. Now I'm neurotic and double check both boys before pulling out!

I had an internal scan here because I went to the family planning clinic to get my coil, I'm very glad I did now!

HH -re crying when dropping Isaac at childminder - oh no! Are you feeling okay?

Deb wow Ethan looks like his brothers! Can I ask about personalities of your three boys? Are they markedly different? Fraser and Duncan seem very different to me, Fraser is way more intense and needy, he needs more cuddles and attention than his brother ever did.

Ali yes about the sleepers staying quiet. And to all of you - an external thankyou!!!! It's so nice to feel like I'm not alone in the nights and I apologize that the rest of you have to listen to us agonize over and over about our LOs not sleeping!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROLF!!!!! I hope you have a lovely day!

DebInAustria · 10/02/2009 08:30

Rolf - Happy Birthday

Alli - I've got babyBanz, he struggled when I 1st put them on , but then he was quite happy.
Tip - put P in bright sunshine so he's squinting and squirming when you put them on, then he'll see the benefit and accept them more easily. Permanently 39 - how kind of MN! No special plans, skiing with the boys this morning, visiting my friend in hospital this afternoon, looking after her children one day, looking after another child another day, and that takes us back to Saturday and changeover day.

Abdn - glad it's not just me- scary isn't it?
