Morning all, well after a couple of good nights (Fri and Sat) last night was back to square one! One step forward ten steps back!

Welcome back Libra, hope all's well .

sympathy sponge -we've had a couple of better nights that at moment I'm putting down to 1. dose of calpol before bed 2. doing more in day and not letting her nap too long in afternoon.. hey I may eat my words but its the difference between normal nights and nights of hell..not sure if that helps.

Libra/Essie ..can I just ask you a question but what is the difference between gavin henson as seen here gavin

and this bloke (kel) on kath and kim -v.funny aussie comedy series....

link

runs away as knows she is bound to get essie/libra going

Essie3 · 09/02/2009 10:27

I may be Welsh, but it doesn't mean I'm a fan of Gavin Henson. Or Charlotte Church for that matter! I used to get this all the time at college - Essie is a Welsh speaker, so is Angharad/Llinos/whoever - they'll really get on! Not necessarily... There are several Welsh people I can't stand; also English ones; I know one insufferable Chinese guy etc. (Apparently gay people get this too - if there are two gay people in the room they're expected to really hit it off and even get married.)

I love Kath and Kim. Haven't seen it for ages though.

AliandHerScallywag · 09/02/2009 10:36

Morning.

Thanks P&P.

Meant to be off to Sponge's for lunch, but P just had a 2 hour sleep and we are both still in PJs, so must get cracking. Sponge - I have sent you a message on fb.

poppy34 · 09/02/2009 10:45

me too essie - must be on again soon as think there is a new series in aus (had aussie friend who used to send me teh dvds). I'll admit I do like to gawp at those two in mags at hairdressers but like him or not he is a good player (have seen him take apart my team a few times)...and have vested interest in welsh doing well as hoping they'll form the backbone of a good lions team. We're going to watch in summer (edie's first birthday will be in south africa watching them..the littlest lions fan I think).

lol at ali/p... have sleeping baby on me now...

katyjo · 09/02/2009 11:00

Hi all

Sorry Ali, I haven't filled in the survey I've just got a few mins.

Apologies I haven't posted for a while, but dh has been working in sheffield so life is quite busy at the moment.

TMI Alert!
Some of you may remember I had a coil fitted 6 months ago and I had been having very few problems, until periods started getting heavier and things were a bit uncomfortable, so I went to the Gp and she couldn't find the threads so we thought it may have come out. I finally got an appt through for a scan and it is there but in the wrong place, so I will have to have it removed under general aneasthetic - I am gutted!
Scanner thinks it may have been put in wrong, but may be because I was postnatal. It is lying on the muscle, so I am really worried, might not be a problem but I keep thinking worst case senarios.

Sorry for the 'all about me' post but needed somewhere to vent.

Amberc · 09/02/2009 13:06

OOh Katyjo - I hope all is OK you poor thing. I'm sure it will be fine. Coils scare me.

Sponge - 13 February is Mark and I's Valentine's night and we are going for a yummy dinner at the Oxo Tower and got the night nanny so we can have a lie in until 8am! Might even get a shag in

Essie - you should have got in there earlier with the questionnaire! Elin is a lovely and unusual middle name - much nicer than Manuella!

How funny Gavin Henson and Kel!!! I did laugh.

whinegums · 09/02/2009 13:33

Holy crap Katyjo, that's awful, I'm so sorry to hear about that. Try not to worry, easy to say I know. When are you having it removed, or are you waiting to hear? BTW, did you sign up for the next Waterbabies term?

I haven't been posting much, I just felt like I had a bit of a cloak of invisibility on when I did post on the thread - I don't do huffs or flounces, so I haven't said anything up til now, but no one (apart from a very few of you) seem to take any notice of stuff I post. Especially my recent posts, when I posted that I'd booked a trip to Madrid and asked for any travel tips, and then when I posted that B had fallen off the bed, and could have done with someone telling me that it was ok and I wasn't the worst mum in the world.

Right, I'm not going to mention it again, but STOP BLOODY IGNORING ME!

Ali, love reading everyone else's responses to the questionnaire, but I'm not revealing my middle name!

Sounds like nights are still up and down for many on the thread. I'm trying to get B to go longer between feeds, but the only way I can do it is to bring him into bed with me and co-sleep. Don't really want to go down that route.

Essie, yes it's strange that if you have something in common with one person, others seem to think the two of you would get on. I've never met you, but can't imagine you and Charlotte Church having many boozy nights out...

I might have a new job lined up - don't want to say too much and jinx it, but I've been letting people know I'm back on the market, and one of my old contacts has asked me to meet them this week. We get on really well, and they know my situation, so I can ask them about working PT and stuff, and I think they would say yes. It's a great company to work for, good payers and loads of benefits, and a lovely office (just round the corner from my old job too!). So keep your fingers crossed for me.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Amberc · 09/02/2009 13:46

Soz Whineguums - is it too late to say that Luke fell off the bed too on holiday onto a marble floor but I would like to think that he has learned from it [trying to make myself feel better emoticon]. And that I don't have any good tips for the holiday but we had our 3 day holiday to Paphos last year and it was lovely but don't use Huggies little swimmers if your baby still does runny poos as they don't work!

Good luck with the job BTW - I am loving being back at work!

Rolf · 09/02/2009 13:50

Hi Whinegums - I'm sorry for ignoring you. I was actually thinking of you, as Thea fell off a bed yesterday and I remembered that the same thing had happened to you. She's fine but I felt awful.

abdnhiker · 09/02/2009 13:52

katyjo oh, I'd be so upset too! Sending lots of hugs your way.

essie "And also people who think they're right and won't listen to another opinion" - that's called a redneck where I'm from!

Whinegums fingers crossed for the job! It sounds good so I hope it works out.

whinegums · 09/02/2009 13:57

Thanks Amber and Rolf, I feel like an arse for having a mini rant (but a bit better for it!). It's awful when something like the bed roll happens isn't it? I keep going over it in my head, which is ridiculous as Barnaby has long forgotten it.

Amber, I think it's time for me to go back to work - originally I'd planned to take 14 months off, in my old job I would have had good mat pay and I would have had over 2 months of holiday to take after the standard year. I think I would be going back earlier if I'd still been there. I love being a mum, much more than I ever imagined, but I need a bit of my old life back ifyswim. It's good to hear you're loving being back.

DebInAustria · 09/02/2009 14:10

Sponge - hope tonight is better

Puree - Tried Ethan with the tights - no joy!!

pleasechange · 09/02/2009 14:20

whinegums so sorry you've been feeling like that. Please dont' feel like an arse - I often feel like I'm talking to myself on here and then take a break from it. And I was going to comment on the bed falling but it completely slipped my mind - Alexander fell off a bed at my mum's house a few weeks ago and I was mortified. I'd literally just turned my back for an instant and he was off. Glad to hear that as this has happened to several of us, it's easy done and not a bad mummy alert! p.s. that sounds like great news on the job front

I'm finding being back at work a bit of a mixed bag. I hate leaving A in the mornings, but the actual days aren't too bad.

Since I've been back at work though, A has slept terribly. Last night he woke every hour. I have no idea what woke him, although there is a little tooth popping through on top so hopefully he'll settle soon

katyjo poor you about the coil, hope you get it sorted. I'll try not to let it put me off getting one fitted in a couple of weeks

systemsaddict · 09/02/2009 15:04

whinegums I'm sorry, I should have responded to your falling off the bed thing, particularly as you were being supportive re. my hanging Caitlin's head on the car door thing and I really did appreciate it, have in fact thought of it several times and it has made me feel lots better - but just can't keep track of what I've responded to and what I haven't in my sleep-fogged state! So sorry you have been feeling ignored.

Has anyone else seen www.babysleepanswers.co.uk/? I'm so tempted to sign up - prob. a bit of a scam, but although I feel like I do know all the baby sleep theories, after going through it before, I like the idea of dedicated online support. Terrible night last night - she lulled us into a false sense of security with just-about-bearable 3 or 4 wakings Fri and Sat night and then whoosh, every hour from midnight last night and wide awake wanting to play at 3am.

systemsaddict · 09/02/2009 15:05

*banging not hanging!

Rolf · 09/02/2009 15:07

katyjo sorry about your coil scare.

I also am afraid of coils. They make me think of that insect thing in Neo's tummy in The Matrix . Luckily I have my scary tum as a super-effective contraceptive

poppy34 · 09/02/2009 15:24

whinegums sorry that you feel ignored..but know I've had phases like that and think the advice about time out is a good one. good news re job

allnew re waking (and rolf)..do you reckon its a particularly bad phase at this age -given sponge has also had issues... not much consolation but the sleep issue does seem to be a particular hot topic (I know it always is but just seems v.dominant at the minute).

amber so glad you're loving being back at work - I'm so pleased (and its really nice to hear that it is a postive thing). and the kel/gavin henson thing has bugged me for ages now.. ever since hte last smarmed down hair set of photos of him and his offspring.

deb a lurker on this thread could seriously wonder what you are doign putting your youngest son into tights

katyjo coil thing sounds horrible..but am sure its awful (trouble is you naturally start thinking the worse when something gets diagnosed as not being right)

poppy34 · 09/02/2009 15:25

and for all those re falling off bed.. I live in fear of edie doing it and am lurking around like a spotter..then again I gave her a massive cut on a finger (it bled like crazy and I started to cry with her ) so I'm not exactly up there v. jordan/jade/kerry katona for mum of the year..

poppy34 · 09/02/2009 17:10

am so loving bunnytown that may change my name to old king bunny

Rolf · 09/02/2009 18:09

Poppy reckon you're right. Thea isn't eating much and am wondering if she's hungry. Is anyone on this thread doing blw? I'm not sure how well it's going.

poppy34 · 09/02/2009 18:11

think sponge and ali are rolf and I know tat they are concerned... edie being a bit erratic re food - happily eating lumps one day not the next but I suppose that is what its going to be like for the next 18 years (thinking of dss diet of 3 things only and one of those is scotch eggs )

AliandHerScallywag · 09/02/2009 18:34

Just a quick post - whinegums that was a good mini rant and quite justified as far as I am concerned! . When you mentioned going to Madrid I thought that I must tell you to pack warm clothes. We went in April and it is absolutely freezing at that time of year due to the altitude. It should be sunny as well, so it is nice as long as you have the right clothes on. On our flight over there was a hen group who were wearing vests and talking about getting a tan...

Had a lovely lunch at Sponge's house. Alex's crawling is wicked!

We talked about whether sleep and BLW are connected. I think some babies are just better at sleeping than others. I found this interesting:

Sadler S. Sleep: what is normal at six months? Prof Care Mother Child 1994 Aug-Sep;4(6):166-7. In this study, part of the Avon Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood (ALSPAC), researchers surveyed the parents of 640 babies. Some of the results:

Only 16% slept through the night at six months old -- 84% were not sleeping through the night at 6 months
17% woke more than once per night, ranging from twice to eight times
5% woke once every night
9% woke most nights
50% woke occasionally
16% of six-month-olds had no regular sleeping pattern
Here is the the link from Kellymom if you want to look at it and other studies in more detail.

AliandHerScallywag · 09/02/2009 18:43

Right, I am back on the iPod as P seems to be ready for his second round of tea.

The point that I am trying to make above is that P's sleep is normal for his age.

Would I like him to sleep through: of course.
Am I concerned about all this waking: no.

abdnhiker · 09/02/2009 18:47

the sleep survey sounds good at first, but it sure seems like more than 17% of us are up more than twice a night regularly. And if 50% are waking occasionally - that's sleeping through in my opinion!

Rolf - your tummy can't be too good a contraceptive! Anyways I know it's something that bothers you and am sending you hugs...

Also, I'm doing a combination of blw and purees, but over 1/2 is blw as that's what Fraser likes best. Sometimes he really surprises us how much he can feed himself. Tonight he had quite a lot of pizza for dinner.

We're in a serious sleep regression too - not ever sleeping for longer than 4 hours in a row when we'd gotten up to 6-8 hours. I think it might be developmental or it could be because he's hungrier now that he's crawling. Anyways, I don't want to try CC or anything because he's going back to sleep after a 15 minute feed and whenever we try anything else, he wakes up too much and wants to play.
