Happy Birthday Rolf- hope sleep is one of your gifts!

Amber- I too have a twin story. I looked after the little boy who resulted and last year put him on the waiting list for Eton. It is naturally not the thing to mention when m/c happens but is truly miraculous. I am keeping everything crossed for your sister. She truly deserves a bit of luck.

HH- ((((hugs))))

Debs- love the pic. Hope to see one of Ethan in tights soon. The tights babypearls is in in the video are actually footless 'crawler tights'...worn with slipper socks. So maybe it' snot working because he's in the wrong tights

I had to have several internal scans (eurgh) when I m/c because I was in France on holiday at the time. The doctor was surprised we didn't do them as a matter of course. 'Ah, but ze English.....' she said

pureeandpearls · 10/02/2009 08:33

Whinegums- glad you don't feel so alone with the whole fallinf thing....and at swimming. Babypearls was supposed to start classes but she got two ear infections in quick succession so it'll be Easter before we can try again. Off to Gymboree instead!

spongebrainbigpants · 10/02/2009 08:56

Rolf, happy birthday! Interesting that T slept through until 4 1/2 mths too, obviously a pattern cos that's exactly what A did!

Amber, wonderful news about your sister. Obviously the loss of her other baby is still very sad, but just amazing that she is still pg. I also know a few for whom this has happened (twins being v common in IVF, but often still resulting in a singleton live birth) so fingers crossed all is well from here on in.

A slept from 1am - 6am this morning, but unfortunately I was kept awake with excrutiating stomach pains that had both dh and me very worried . They've eased off now but stomach still very sore. No idea what it was.

Happy Birthday Rolf!!!!

Thanks for all the comments on my sis - I will let her know positive stories!

poppy34 · 10/02/2009 12:30

happy birthday rolf amberc my bil the other twin as mil lost his brother - is now 40 something.

deb great tips re sunglasses.

sponge that sounds horrible - poor you.

edie trying to figure out how to jail break out of her chair.

I am still contemplating changing my name to a bunnytown related one -i'll admit it that i'm obsessed so clearly a dummy mummy

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 10/02/2009 13:01

amber great news aboiut your sister. Fingers crossed for her.

Katyjo I'm disturbed about your coil situation. I don't feel at all confident in mine and keep having nightmares about getting pregnant (sorry to those of you who are trying)

whinegums SOrry you feel ingnored I often do to. DS has fallen of the bed a few times now so to us it's a non event !

sponge I hope you are feeling bettter now.

I took DS to a toddlers group this morning and he really enjoyed it. He is gettting better and better at cruising, generally because the girls leave food lying around and he does everything he can to get it!

DebInAustria · 10/02/2009 13:15

Goingto - I still have to pluck up the courage for toddler group.lol at your ds cruising for food!!

Puree - which colour tights do you want to see?

Sponge - how can anyone call themselves hatesponge - obviously no-one here.Unless it's hatespongebob - I hate Spongebob.

Abdn - yes he does look like them, but they are all so different. Stefan is loud, very active, and in your face but underneath he's a worrier, lacks confidence, honest, sensitive and thoughtful.
Tristan is quieter, very funny, and very confident for a child who cannot speak either language well enough for all to understand! He wants to know everything, and makes friends easily.
Ethan is noisy, and active, so atm could be like Stefan, and not such a Mummy's boys as Tristan was at this stage.

I find it so interesting how different they are.

pleasechange · 10/02/2009 13:17

Happy Birthday rolf goingto I'm having my coil fitted in a couple of weeks and am nervous about it. DH is looking forward to it though! Not that I'm up for much of that atm with A waking every hour!

I also want to change my name, mine is so boring

I've ordered another new sling (number 4 ) and am strangely excited about it (definitely makes me a dummy mummy)

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 10/02/2009 13:39

Allnew which sling are you getting. DS is too heavy for his close one now. Dp will kill me if I buy another one! Getting the coil fitted was fine and I just had a bit os crampng and bleeding for a few days. I feel to paranoid to enjoy the freedom of using it, I'm sure I'll feel happier in 6 months or so when I can tell it's working!

Debs Ethan looks super cute in his sunglasses!!!

pleasechange · 10/02/2009 14:10

goingto it's an Ergo. I got it on ebay but ended up paying full price anyway. I still use my moby for travelling and will be when A is too heavy for it as I can't think of another type which would be as handy to pop him in and out of at the airport. I have a pouch sling but obviously not as comfy as the wrap

FiveGoMadInDorset · 10/02/2009 14:24

Deb was thinking about your friend who lost her husband. How is she doing.

Sponge hope you are feeling better.

Rolf tuna and cucumber sandwiches were a big hit today, and also banana cut into sticks, and grapes cut in half.

Who was it who had the friend in SA who's husband was not nice?

whinegums sorry I missed your post about falling off the bed, I tend to do last 10 messages or so as I don't com on here that often. If it will make you fel better, DD managed to fallout of her high chair onto the kitchen floor and came up with the most massive egg. Sebastian is going great guns rolling of the sofa.

Essie3 · 10/02/2009 14:42

Ah, Sponge, no coincidence - I see you've found the other name I use on here? Seriously, I'm joking!

On sleeping and eating - it made no change to Iestyn with sleeping for the first month or so; but then it did. And he was a v. reluctant puree eater for at least a month but then it clicked; possibly to do with going to nursery, but then he's only there 2 days a week. Lumps have slowed things down.
However... please feel free to rant at me now, but can I report that Iestyn slept through last night? I won't pretend I'm not boasting, because to be fair he has never slept through, and November and December were two solid months of waking every 3 hours at night on a good night, every...hour if a bad night. And as he wouldn't - still won't - take a bottle, I have had no break since mid November.
But now that I've said that, I do think it's great that on here the ones who have babies who sleep through (regularly!) are wise enough to keep quiet about it because it really does make me feel miserable when people go on about it. Somebody I know does mention it all the time, and I always get really angry because it's not like she's done anything amazing - it's more down to luck than a personal achievement of hers, surely?
I'm only mentioning last night because Iestyn has demonstrated that change is possible, so maybe Iestyn can bring hope to my sisters-in-sleeplessness on here? (Mind you, I can take no credit for it because if I knew why last night was different I would have immediately told you all the big secret. And possibly charged you for it. ) Anyhow, I'm bound to be sorely disappointed tonight, aren't I?

Whinegums I think your ignored posting coincided with my two week sulk, where I didn't post at all as I was so annoyed with 3 different discussions. And nobody noticed I wasn't here!

abdnhiker · 10/02/2009 14:42

goingtohaveagoodnightsleep I have a babyhawk and really love it - Fraser was in it today.

deb Glad I'm not the only one who sees such different personalities in her kids! Especially since mine look alike too!

poppy34 · 10/02/2009 14:43

allnew how do you use ergo (behind/front/hip).. I like mine but have been using it as front carrier but find its got quite a low harness area (ifyswim) and edie is inclined to try to lean backwards so you have to hold her as worry she'll fall out . is this just a problem wiht my bonkers baby or not?

although took her to be weighed for first time in months and she is only just 8 kilos (17 10) whereas I was convinced she was 20 something so too big for baby bjorn..

FiveGoMadInDorset · 10/02/2009 14:47

essie do they feed him purees at nursery. I did notice you weren't here but thought you were busy or had gone away

poppy34 · 10/02/2009 14:49

going I've got an ergo, a scootababy and a baby bjorn... if anyone has any idea how you can wear a scootababy out with a bag too without mucking up the strap let me know..

Essie3 · 10/02/2009 14:50

Oh, really sorry everyone - I read all the posts, posted mine, then realised that there was a whole other page I'd missed!

Hi to 5GoMad and I'm so pleased you enjoyed Oxford. I failed to tell you to take hundreds of pounds for buying books! And so, so of the snow in Oxford!
The whole of Snowdonia (visible from my gate) is white, top to bottom at the moment. It's awe inspiring, and makes me want to cry. But it's also claimed 4 lives in the past 4 days - RAF rescue flies over here.

pleasechange · 10/02/2009 14:52

essie as the mum of a non-sleeper I am v pleased for you that Iestyn slept through (honestly, not being sarcastic!). It gives me some hope!

poppy haven't received it yet, but I'm hoping to use it for a back carry. I know what you mean about the leaning back though, frequently wants to see behind him when in front carry in the other slings and leans way back. He's a very nosy baby. Will let you know how I get on with the ergo when it arrives. I'm hoping I like it given the cost!

DH remains unconvinced about being able to take A for a walk in the sling

Essie3 · 10/02/2009 14:52

No! Now I've x-posted with loads of people!

Yes, 5GoMad, it's purees at nursery, although they do finger foods too. Iestyn isn't big on finger foods though. They're all made from scratch from local ingredients - how middle class am I now? (Maybe the answer is not at all - that's nursery, this is me...)

poppy34 · 10/02/2009 14:54

allnew you will (and know what you mean re cost I did have to think hard...) - it'll be great for back carrys.

essie good news re sleeping but sad re snow (although got any photos.. is that bad to ask that but it sounds so gorgeous).

pleasechange · 10/02/2009 14:57

re. purees/finger food, Alexander seems to go from liking one to the other. What he really likes is for me to pick food up in my fingers and put it is his mouth, but I try not to do this unless he is refusing to eat from spoon/with his own fingers!

Sometimes he starts off by refusing something, but then with some cajoling he'll try it, realise it's actually quite nice, and wolf down the lot. Sometimes the cajoling is just spreading the food on a ricecake to get him to taste it. Very fussy these babies aren't they!

Essie3 · 10/02/2009 14:59

Thanks, allnew! I had given up trying to do anything about it, to be honest, and had decided that this lack of sleep (for me) is a phase, and I'll live. Also I had several nights by myself (tonight will be one), and I was not going to do CC all alone at 2am when I could just feed him and we could both go back to sleep. (Was it you with the same theory - the 'stuff it and bf' one?) But he did seem to be improving somehow, and last night, quite randomly, he did it. And I'm talking 7.30-8.15am!! I've had nothing, nothing that good before.

Still needed industrial amounts of concealer today though. One good night does not a bright and refreshed Mami make!
And I was also totally engorged, in a huge puddle of breastmilk, because ironically last night I decided I didn't need to sleep in a bra and breastpads because...Iestyn feeds and doesn't sleep through and therefore I'm never overfull! How mad is that?!

Essie3 · 10/02/2009 15:01

Oh, no, even more x-posting! I'll stop now.

But I might nip out to take some photos of the stunning scenery. Unfortunately I can't do it justice, though - you need a panoramic lens really because it's the full range of Snowdonia, including the Llyn Peninsula; there are only mountains on the horizon here. (Unless it's raining or foggy in which case you can't see a horizon.)

pleasechange · 10/02/2009 15:04

yep it was me with the 'stuff it and bf' approach! I'd been getting on ok on the boobs/milk front, but when he started feeding 4 times a night from last week my body must have been getting used to it and so last night when he actually had several 2-hour sleeps, I was leaking!

Sometimes I feel like I'm crap at all this because I still have him sleeping with me and have no routine whatsoever, so it helps loads to hear there are others with similar problems. When I tell people in RL that A doesn't sleep and that he's in with me, they appear all like they've never heard anything like it

Essie3 · 10/02/2009 15:15

Well, allnew, you know how it is - co-sleeping is for freaks and he will never, ever sleep in his own bed. That's the attitude, though, isn't it? 'Don't feed your baby to sleep, it's a Bad Habit.' I gave up caring about that, because I can guarantee that I won't be doing it when he's eight. (Or even four. Hold me to that, folks!) Bad habit now, no big deal, I'll stress about it some other time!

Speaking of stress, though, for all my smugness about the one night (out of hundreds) of sleeping through, the bottle battle is still an issue. I kept having people say he'd cave in when he was hungry. Wrong, I have the child who won't cave in ever. I'm only mentioning it because last night, and this morning, Iestyn did a wee on the changing mat (and also carpet, of course...) and it was quite yellow and very smelly. He's doing plenty of wet nappies, and also dirty ones; but when should I start to get worried about smelly wee? Is it dehydration or just something he ate?
