Just catching up and want to respond to a couple of things before I forget ... Rolf I would be thrilled to get sloppy baby kisses from someone else's baby at a group, Caitlin always flirts with the other parents at Sing and Sign and it makes me very proud! In fact I had to pass her quickly on to a visiting grandmother yesterday as ds came with up (dp sometimes works Saturdays) and started a meltdown - I was so glad she will go to anyone!!

Hedgehog your manager has been a complete arse about bfeeding. It never occurred to me to ask about putting my EBM in the communal fridge, I just put it in a cool bag and no-one knew about it! This time round there is no fridge nearby and I'm using an Ameda coolbag with 3 icepacks in it which is fantastic.

More later. Better nights here the past couple. I have fed C her evening feed sat up on the bed rather than lying down, and this seems to help her settle in her cot - if I did this all night I'm sure she would go back to her cot more readily than being hauled out from under a nice warm duvet/boob when she's finished feeding; but in the middle of the night it is just too tempting to be able to doze while I feed her! But she only co-slept about 1/2 of the last 2 nights and I feel much better, I clearly sleep better when she's not there.

systemsaddict · 08/02/2009 11:00

Love the video puree - she looks so grown-up! Nowhere near crawling here yet, just lots of frantic wiggling. But we are almost sure she has started saying "Daddy" - bit but it's very clear and very definitely reserved for when she sees dp. I started talking v. early (and walking v. late, Mum says at a year old I was still just sitting still but talking in complete sentences, was v. strange child!!) so it's possible. Am a bit that it's not "Mummy" though!

Amberc · 08/02/2009 15:32

Aw - Pearls that is a gorgeous vid! My friends took a great one of Luke laughing his head off at the cats but I'm waiting for them to send me a DVD as the file is too big. Still feeling knocked out completely. I think I must have stopped the iron tablets too early as I was anaemic but they give me bottom problems. Guess I'll have to get the lactulose out of hibernation!

pureeandpearls · 08/02/2009 16:04

Thanks everyone!

Debs- suspect any tights will do

Systems- impressed with language skills....babypearls said 'Da' yesterday when I was trying to teach her to say Mamma..I decided she was just talking Russian

PenguinProject · 08/02/2009 17:03

As for The Guardian article - if I was a 'friend' of that journalist I'd be giving her a very wide berth in future .

OP posts:
PenguinProject · 08/02/2009 17:57

I'm quite sad that one of my RL friends referred to the Guardian article as "Words of wisdom"....

poppy34 · 08/02/2009 18:24

hi all PP that article is quite interesting in parts (I have to say the pushchair fetish thing passes me by - fair enough while you're choosing but clearly it moves on to be something more than that ..but then again my sling obsession means I can hardly throw stones )...but it did come across as nasty - esp odd given her comment re people's reaction to rachida dati going back to work (I agree with her there so wtf did she write that article)?

bunnytown on here - very popular alternative to baby einstein...

Pearls that is impressive crawling!!!

PiggyPenguin · 08/02/2009 18:36

Evening all. I am thrilled to say I am typing this with a well baby on my knee! Yippee! He has even eaten a bit of carrot and broccoli with cheese so I am on a particular high.

Having read that article though, I obviously shouldn't be discussing his eating habits but instead making pithy and thoughtful comments on world economics and the role of women in 18th century literature. Actually, I did do part of my degree on the latter so could try a bit of that if necessary... To be honest though, I'd rather talk about the lovely J, and if that makes me a sad mummy so be it. I can see she is going to get the kind of hate mail that woman from the Times got when she admitted to spending more time choosing her kitchen worktop than deciding to abort her husband's child because 3 children were too many.

Babypearls is fantastic in that video, Jamie is also practising an odd crawl. He walks forward on his feet and then falls to his knees to do his hands and then go back on his feet. Most odd, but part of his charm.

spongebrainbigpants · 08/02/2009 19:53

sybil, fab news about J .

Just uploaded new photo of A with a broccoli beard - am I a dummy mummy?!!

(And could I give a crap if I am?!! )

OP posts:
PenguinProject · 08/02/2009 20:07

Sponge - all the pics of Alex are lovely, esp the box one...

pureeandpearls · 08/02/2009 20:26

Methinks we should start a new thread now proclaiming ourselves to be dummy-mummies. If the point of the article was to be contentious twaddle which gets people talking, then Ms. Cooke did jolly well. I have to say the point that incensed me was the reference to the chat on baby-related websites (why tell the world about your child's funny moments etc.) Am I being naive, or is that not what baby-related websites are for????

[I stress at this point that this is merely my opinion; other opinions are available. I have no desire to be sued a la GF for speaking my mind on a public forum.]

pureeandpearls · 08/02/2009 20:28

Sponge- broccoli-faced boy is yummier than ever. You clearly do a great line in gorgeous babies. I will NEVER tire of hearing you gush about him, knowing what it took to get him.

PP- the you-know-a-Welsh-person-therefore-you-should-support-Wales thing was sheer genius!

poppy34 · 08/02/2009 20:50

puree ..good point although she may find it better to go find a website about smug types who want to write self congratulatory wank in the not very well hidden belief that they are actually better than anyone else...

systemsaddict · 08/02/2009 21:04

That's what I hate about articles like that - she comes across as so unbearably self-righteous. Either that or she doth protest a little bit too much, whatever she says. And how ridiculous to complain about posting about babies on baby-related forums!! My brother posts about sports cars on sports car forums and boatyards on boatyard forums. Does this make him sad and obsessed? no. (ok maybe a bit about the sports cars.) Honestly.

Hello Everyone, and hello Libra, nice to see you back again. How is the job situation now?

I am very relieved that you have all been dutifully filling in the survey. For a nasty moment last night I thought it might kill the thread if no-one wanted to fill it in. Enjoying reading all your answers.

P&P all 3 of us watched your video. Peter cracked a big grin watching it.

DH has turned the light out, so better stop as he is making comments about how I would be moaning if it was him keeping me awake by surfing the net on the iPod in bed.

Hope you have good nights.

pureeandpearls · 09/02/2009 08:16

Thanks Ali- I confess I was near tears watching the one of P on your blog. He's soooooooo cute xxx

Libra- you've got the Band Aged CD. Should I get it?
