Am I first? Couldn't think of what to call it....

VS - I think she is hungrier, yes, I tried giving more milk, which helped, but then yesterday she spurned more milk for more food (I guess she can't take both) and she did sleep better last night. Woke once at 5.30 for drink water and then 6.30 properly. She is never hungry for her breakfast til about 8 though - does anyone else have this? Should I stop giving a ten o clock feed?

MHah - look at entitledto.com

chipmonkey · 06/01/2009 15:48

I hate waiting for tradesmen, I have wasted half my life doing that. The other half I have wasted on Mumsnet!

MadameOvary · 06/01/2009 17:55

LadyBee - sorry of you have a cold but glad there were no scenes on your return
MHAH - Ellis is at the same stage, not quite crawling but dying to get going!

EllieG · 06/01/2009 19:55

Did your carpet people come scorpio?

I want to stay at home too but I have to work. If was single I would give up job for a few years and claim income support and/or work part time, but DH don't want me to do that as will be difficult for the 3 of us to find a big enough place without me working.
Have to admit though, Molly is getting harder to keep stimulated now is getting older. Took her to a baby group today and I may as well have not been there! She was right in the thick of it for an hour and a half and couldn't have given a monkeys whether I was there or not, which I suppose bodes well for nursery.

Good news MHAH! Now, will you just come and live in my house and teach DD to do same please?

OH FFS!

I really shouldn't read the bf/ff threads, but I did. Someone compared the choice to ff with the choice to smoke. How can you possibly say that givning your child ff causes same level of ill health as smoking!

MHAH, that's great news about sleeping gigi, you must be really pleased - it does make a huge difference doesn't it .
I meant to tell you ladies about something I did a while back - babybee had been waking in the night and not settling very well, I'd been feeding him and then he'd stay awake for at least an hour, it seemed like he'd wake up too much with the feeding and need to wait for a whole sleep cycle to come around before he could jump on the sleepy-wagon.
Anyway, I decided that he was well settled back here again, eating properly, napping properly so I would offer just water. We've just switched to the Closer to Nature bottles as I needed larger ones than my Breastflow ones (bear with me, this is relevant). SOooo I filled one up with boiled water before I went to bed, knowing that he'd probably wake around 3.
1st night - he woke, I gave him water, he protested, then drank about 2-3 oz, stayed awake for an hour, I crawled back to bed.
2nd night - he woke a bit later (about 4), I got out of bed, grabbed the bottle, for some reason couldn't get the cap off and in my still-mostly-asleep state, thought, 'oh it must be screw on'...and undid the top...went to feed my darling boy some water and tipped 7 oz of cold water all over his face
I was so tired it took me a moment to realise what I'd just done, but it took him even longer so I was treated to a stunned silence, enormous look of disbelief and betrayal and then a deep breath and WAAAAIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLL

Poor thing. Managed to get him dry and warm and gave him a BF to comfort him and send him back to sleep.

3rd night. Not a peep.

Not that I'm suggesting dousing your babies or anything, but he's slept through ever since

No really. I'm definitely not encouraging you to follow in my sleep-addled footsteps. Poor baby.

LadyBee · 06/01/2009 20:19

'tis ridiculous. Don't look Ellie. Really.
Or is it like a sore tooth that you can't help poking with your tongue? I'm a bit like that with cs/vbac threads...I'm so far away from ttc no.2 but I can't help myself from reading anything that mentions cs/vbac.

ClarissimoUsedToBePeachy · 06/01/2009 21:20

Oh Ellie, you know its a silly comparison! don't go there luv!

3 bottles a day? blimey. Bas is still on eight - ten bf a day. And 3 meals plus snacks.

Anyone got any ideas why he's gaining a kilo a fortnight atm?

pmsl

chipmonkey · 06/01/2009 21:26

A kilo a fortnight!!!!!

ClarissimoUsedToBePeachy · 06/01/2009 21:30

I know, he's gone u to the fiftieth centile also from the 0.2nd

Its all that concrete I feed him. TAstier than baby rice, though.

VSisFlouncing · 06/01/2009 21:41

Ellie, stay away from the threads!!
Seriously, it's nowt like smoking (and if such a BF'nazi' like meself says so you gotta believe it )
Fuck 'em.
The worst thing is I can almost guarantee I know who has said that without even looking. Fucking great advocates for breast-feeding they are

VSisFlouncing · 06/01/2009 21:41

Clarrisimo!!!
OMG Fantastic!!

ClarissimoUsedToBePeachy · 06/01/2009 21:44

I am getting very very very tired arms from feeding all night and day though!.

I told that Paed didnt I? Fools, fools I say.

SalLikesCoffee · 06/01/2009 21:50

Hi everyone. Sorry, more lurking than posting lately, but glad to hear you're all doing well.

Ellie, just had to post tonight in response to that bf/ff comment you made - yep, I saw it too, got totally pissed off and decided to come and check what you're all up to, so what a coincidence!
Actually, my all time favourite () was when someone said on that thread the other day that all ff-ers are basically not only selfish in ruining our children's lives, but that we're costing everyone else money too by guaranteeing a lifetime of doctor/hospital visits, etc etc. Sorry to swear, but WTF???

If it wasn't for nice bf-ers like VS on here and for some good experiences, if I'd never breastfed and I heard such a comment, it would put me off bf-ing, actually. Clearly a nutter talking. Those kind of people are so smug, no point in trying to reason.

Peachy - @ concrete!!! Great news!

Ladybee, glad work going well - thought of you yesterday.

Hello again everyone else!

VSisFlouncing · 06/01/2009 21:50

Ellie, can I just add, I've read the last few posts on that thread, I know SPB, I doubt very much she meant it in the way it sounded, though it was worded terribly.

ClarissimoUsedToBePeachy · 06/01/2009 21:53

Well if anyone goes on that thread feel free to point out hoew many (weekly) extra trips the Public have funded to HV through my refusal to FF, and not forgetting the visits to Paed, GP scrutiny etc......

Twats. So not going on that thread.

VSisFlouncing · 06/01/2009 21:55

Me neither (keep going to type 'peachy' after my posts to you!)
I refuse.
I can totally get that Breast-feeding is what nature provided blah-de-blah, I'd love for everyone to BF, but for some it ain't for them, for others it ain't possible, so Let It Lie FGS.

ThePFJ · 06/01/2009 21:55

Hi gals. Sorry I have been so crap at posting last week or so. Hope you are all well and having fun with your lovely babies. Jack now says Mama and reaches out for me at the same time, the first time he did that 2 days ago I died with pride. We had our checkup at the hospital and the docs say Jack is VERY tall for his age, which explains why I have to resort to 1-2 year old clothes for him and 12-18 months for his sleepsuits.

Anyways... am rather depressed tonight as I found out that my nan didnt just have a simple fall (she's in hospital miles and miles away near Bristol) and shes actually now suffering the effects of being on Iron pills for TEN YEARS without a proper checkup. They are telling us at the hospital now that she should have been checked every 3 months and not been on them for very long. So er someone dropped the ball there huh? Anyways her organs are enlarged and she now doesn't have long to live, so I am taking Jack to see her on the train on Thurs. It will be the first time she has seen her Great Grandson so it should be an occasion. Hopefully I wont be too late as nan hasn't eaten at all for over a week and is getting weaker etcetc.

Anyways wont bore you all too much. I am crap at being chatty when I am angry/sad and I feel so frustrated today. Think must be my period getting to me as well. DP was grumpy all evening tonight after being lovely to me all week last week, and that has spun me into a right mood. Grrr etc.

Also, am feeling challenged/anxious about taking baby on 3.5 hour train ride on Thurs. Should be fun though eh?

Right. I am off to chew on my pillow.

Hugs everyone. xxx

KnitterInTheNW · 06/01/2009 21:57

Happy new year everyone!

I have a crawling boy who still has no teeth. At least he's eating well now, and sort of sleeping a bit better. But the poor love has ezcema on his face and back, and a bit on arms, legs and tummy. I'm having to cream him umpteen times a day just to not let it get any worse. Last night he grabbed my hand through the bars of the cot and was using one of my fingernails to scratch his face with contented little sighs of relief. So much for BFing, I thought he was meant to be not as likely to get it! Ah well.

VSisFlouncing · 06/01/2009 21:59

PFJ Anything we can do??

Ladies, can I have your views on www.mumsnet.com/Talk/breast_and_bottle_feeding/678646-Mastitis-What-would-you-suggest
Seems the shitty BF/FF thread has kicked it out of oblivion on active convos..

ThePFJ · 06/01/2009 22:01

Awwww Knitter... can just imagine your little now grabbing your finger. Hehe.
Ok, so my pillow wasnt that tasty and I decided to hang around for a wee while....

ThePFJ · 06/01/2009 22:02

Dont think so VS...thanks though. xxxx

But can anyone reassure me if they have baby change stations in train loos?

VSisFlouncing · 06/01/2009 22:04

Not sure, but I'd ignore the other passengers and perfect changing on my lap.
Also, is there any way you can use a sling? I found it a nightmare with the buggy on the train a few months ago.

VSisFlouncing · 06/01/2009 22:04

I can send you my sling next day delivery tomorrow if you need to borrow it?
