Hi jambot nice to see you again !
Welcome babyd - happy mumsneting!!

I have to take Faith for her 8wk check and injections today - I really don't look forward to these things, I always feel so guilty! I guess it has to be done though.

Faith seems to be settling in to some kind of routine, although she won't be "put down" in her cot to sleep unless it's dark. So I keep her downstairs and she sleeps in her baby swing after her 6/7pm ish feed until 9:30/10:30pm ish bottle, then goes to bed. She usually then sleeps til 5/6am, but we did have a bad night Saturday - I think she was having a hungry time - she went down at 10:30pm and woke at 2am, then fed on and off til 9am!!! Tired mummy all day yesterday! She is really very smiley now and coos at us all, oooh, she makes some lovely noises .

It's our wedding anniversary today and DH said he'd like to take me out for dinner this evening but it's up to me to get the babysitter - only trust my Dad and his "lady friend" (no it's not what it sounds like, my mum died 9yrs ago). So if I can fix it up I shall be having an evening of freedom and no cooking - Yay!!

Well done popsycal on the cloth nappies! I wanted to try them but DH said as Faith is our third it would be a waste of money and I should've done it with our first!! Typical blokey thing to say eh?

I do hope Harry settles down a bit for you. Re the BF and returning to work I'm afraid I can't help, I'm a SAHM. I would only say do what you feel most comfortable with. Sorry I can't be of more use.

Have a good day all, and wish me luck with the dreaded injections - I'm sure I'll cry more than Faith!

xx

The anti-reflux formula is manufactured in SA by a company called Infacare, but apparently they took over production from Cow and Gate who are no longer in the country, so I guess it's the same formula as the Cow and Gate I'm sure you can get in the UK. It's much thicker than normal formula so you have to make the teat holes bigger. BE CAREFUL though! The formula doesn't really drip out like thinner formulas, which I didn't know and kept on making the hole bigger and bigger. Stupidly fed Lauren with the new teat in the dark for her 2:00am feed. Didn't notice that she had glugged down the entire bottle in about 4 minutes(normally takes about 15) until she started to scream blue murder. Took me 3 hours to calm her and for her to digest the stuff. Felt awful.BAD MOMMY!! A thickish needle is sufficient. The formula has really helped. She doesn't bring up at all any more and is more relaxed after her feed. Less writhing around and hands round the face than she used to do with her old formula.
Definetely worth a try if you are bottle feeding.

BABYD · 16/05/2005 22:11

Hi, Dylan's mum here again. a question for norash40. Is your baby Kieran that weighed 10lb 4.5oz at birth? did you have a vaginal delivery and how did it go? i had an emergency c-section but have wondered if i would've coped with a vaginal delivery at 10lb 4oz.
By the way just for the record Dylan was born on 4.3.05.

norash40 · 16/05/2005 22:12

Thanks Jambot. Will surely try the formula with Kieran, he seems to be bringing up more and more these days.

norash40 · 16/05/2005 22:19

BABYD will find my birth story for you.

norash40 · 16/05/2005 22:20

Here found it:

went into hospital on wednesday 6pm
was induced at around 9.40pm. 2ml prostin
thursday morning no change (cervix intact) 1ml prostin given.
still no changes on thursday evening.

Friday morning and cervix had softened but still closed. 2ml prostin. By now I had had the full dose of prostin and afraid that the induction was not going to work.

Friday night around 8pm and the contractions started. They were coming 3-4 every 10 mins and I was having contractions on top of contractions. Was on gas and air all night, was given pethidine at around 1am and by 9am was 3cm dilated and was transfered to the labour ward.

I asked for an epidural as soon as I got to the labour ward which worked well for the pain most of the time but the pump was faulty so twice I was in really bad pain . Got a fever and was shaking, pulse racing and in all this the baby was just fine (strong boy)

To cut a long story short it was not easy, but I did not expect it to be anyway.

1st stage(from 3cm)- 14hr 30mins
2nd stage - 1hr 31mins
3rd stage - 9mins

Induction to delivery - 3days 3hrs 21mins

Kieran arrived at 0101 and was delivered by forceps, a few scars on the head and face but he is beautiful regardless. He had to have antibioticts therefore 2 more days in hospital. Then he developed jaundice and needed treatment, another two days in hopital.

weight: 4.654kg (10lb 4.5oz)
height: 60cm

I don't know how I would have done all this without my hubby by my side.

Can't wait for next time (despite the extensive stitching)

norash40 · 16/05/2005 22:20

Hey BABYD, how come you had a c-section?

BABYD · 17/05/2005 10:06

NORASH40
Thanx for reply, had my term plus 10 appt for fri a.m at 11.30, but contractions started at 5 in morning. went in at 11.30 and was monitored. heartrate was too high and after breaking waters and putting clip on babys head, heartrate still too high and meconium inwaters. epidural at 4.00pm and c-section delivered dylan at 4.21p.m. i had a partial placental abruption, which was why he was distressed, but later found out some placenta was left behind as i also had a morbidly adherant placenta and have since had to have a g.a and a D & C. Dylan also spent 7 days in SCBU on a drip as he had low blood sugar levels and low platelets. He is fine now and despite evrything we have gone through i would do it all again tommorrow, and he is the most beautiful baby in the world. Because of all this i have been told that next time i should be given an elective section.

Cristina7 · 17/05/2005 10:23

Hi all. It's taken me a while to read through the recent posts. Sylvia is 11 weeks old today. Still light (10lb 10oz last week) but keeping on the 25th centile.

Sylvia is such a placid baby, totally different to how her brother was. She falls asleep easily during the day. Usually she starts crying, I try to BF her, she refuses, so I give her a dummy, hold her tight, stroke her eyebrows and the top of her nose (between the eyebrows) and she's asleep within a few minutes. As soon as she's fast asleep I take out the dummy as I think it's OK for her to use it to fall asleep but don't want her to rely on it to stay asleep. She wakes up a few times during the night, hourly towards morning, has a short feed and then back to sleep. She sleeps in our bed so BF is easy. I must say I have it easy with her.

I've lost 7.5 lbs with WeightWatchers (Norash, how is your weight loss going?) these past 3 weeks.

Life is pretty good at the moment. Much, much easier than with my son 5.5 years ago. He needed constant amusing and entertaining. I don't know how much of that is because we were first time parents so we didn't leave him alone either. When Sylvia is awake she can just sit in my lap and I can play with Dominic and she's OK being "ignored".

To those of you in the UK - a reminder about filling in the forms for Child Benefit. They only backdate payments for 13 weeks. I need to do those forms soon.

Misdee - i hope things are getting better for you and that Serena's kidney scans showed good results. How does she like her Didymos wrap? I've got a few slings by now and Sylvia likes being in them.

Bye for now. Is anyone from here in London or Surrey?

Leogaela · 17/05/2005 11:11

Hi all,

Well, we've been away for a few days and now there is a lot to catch up on.....

Popsycal - It will get better!

As for working - if you go back to work in the summer holidays do you actually have to go into work, can you do preparation for next year at home etc? My feeling is that I want to be as far away from work and distance myself from it until I am really going back. I am not going back until October and really appreciate having the time with Niklas, but whe i go back will be ready, so... if I was in your position I wouldn't go back for the end of term. It will also give you more peace of mind with the feeding.

Welcome back Jambot!

And welcome BabyD & Ashlismummy!

We were away at the weekend in dh's family apartment in the mountains. We were 3 couples and 3 babies! It was fun, but unfortunately not the best weather. Coming home was also great, this morning when Niklas woke up and realised he was home he was so unbelievably excited! He was looking around, laughing, kicking, squeeling, waving his arms in the air constantly for about 2 hours! He's sound asleep again now in our bed!

As for weight loss.... I think I only need to cut out on the high calorie food - cakes, biscuits, creamy sauces, cheese, full fat milk... and i would loose the last few kilos, but Niklas likes all that food, and I can't eat spicy food (I tried, Niklas suffered ) or too many vegetables so what the hell!

Leogaela · 17/05/2005 11:13

A question for other bfeeders - does anyone else find that sometimes they have huge really full boobs and other times they feel really flabby and empty? I can't find a pattern to it but sometimes they just don't seem to fill up again.

3mummy · 17/05/2005 13:42

Hi everyone,

Leogaela - I'm with you on the boobs thing! I quite often think "she can't be ready for a feed cos my boobs aren't full" and she most definitley is - but then I have times when they feel really firm and tingly and Faith only fed an hour earlier! Funny things!!

Well, Faith had her 8wk check up and jabs yesterday, which were horrible , she really cried after the initial scream, and spent most of the early evening crying. I gave her a very small dose of infant paracetamol which really seemed to help, then she fell asleep after her 7pmish feed. She slept until 2:30am, fed, then slept again until 5am, and slept again until we woke her at 8am to feed her before the school run! She seems ok today though, I think all the sleep must have helped her settle.

My anniversary plans went down the toilet, even though Faith was ok, as my FIL turned up(he lives 300m away!) and decided to stay til this morning - he didn't remember it was our wed. ann. and there is no way I would leave that man to babysit the children (hasn't got a clue!)
So we couldn't go out, and had an awful evening watching naff tele . DH says he'll take me out later in the week - but I'm still gutted .

I did, however, get a very unexpected bouquet of beautiful roses and a box of chocs from DH - we don't usually do presents for anniversary (usually skint ) and I was chuffed to bits...especially as I love surprises and he's not one to buy flowers!

BTW on her last weigh in a week and a half ago, Faith weighed 9lb 9.5oz, and she is 9wks old tomorrow.

My weight is a nightmare - I still cannot stop eating!!!! It's driving me mad as I have put on a lb a week since Faith was born . I have to get this under control, does anyone know how many points I should be on when breast feeding if I'm normally on 22 a day? Well done cristina7 thats a really good loss!

The extra thick formula I used with DD2 when she had reflux was called Omneo Comfort - I can't remember if it was Farleys or Cow and Gate, have a feeling it was Cow and Gate though.

BABYD · 17/05/2005 15:23

On the weightwatchers programme, you get an extra 10 points a day if totally breastfeeding or 5 if mixed feeding.

Hey Christina7, congratulations on the weight loss.

Why don't we have a weekly update on Fridays. What do you guys think?
