So how is it going for everyone? Most of us have had our babies so how was the first few weeks?

Here we are on our holidays - we are loving being at my parents in Wales (boneym - they're near to Aberystwyth). What a treat to be looked after so well. Iris was a bit miserable on the two days we spent travelling (we split the journey in Cheltenham), but made up for it last night with the best night EVER, sleeping 10pm till 3.30am then not waking again till 6.30am. Unheard of! I only hope she can keep it up.

Girly - sorry to hear you have been having such a rough time. What a shame your parents are so unsupportive. My mum formula fed me and my brother, but she's great about me breastfeeding - quite interested in the whole thing.

It's amazing what a difference it makes having two more people around to help. My dad is currently entertaining Iris with his 'bear noise' and whistling and she thinks it is great! Dp is preparing dd1's bath, so I'm free to do mumsnet. Hooray!

Will try to sort out photos for your site popscal whilst we're here. My folks have broadband and it makes the whole internet thing much more possible!

Must go and show willing as everyone else is busy entertaining my children!

All the best to you all.

Norash - sorry to hear Kieran isn't sleeping so well. I think you should expect it just to be a phase. i remember around 5 or 6 weeks Niklas was just becoming really aware of the world around him and was unsettled for a bit. It will get better again. just try to get some sleep during the day if he does go to sleep, even if its only half an hour.

3mummy - no idea about the chicken pox at all, would it be bad if it is? would it be better to get it out of the way now while she is so young, or could it be a bad thing? I she is doing Ok and you have a better night with all 3 girls.

Jambot - I meant to mention before that the doctors and midwives in switzerland recomment almond oil before olive oil for any kind of dry skin problems. It smells much nicer than olive oil.

Niklas is 3 months today! :!
He has been doing really well. Sleep isn't too bad and he is generally very happy, somedays he hardly cries at all except.... the last couple of nights he has been really difficult to put to sleep. Won't take the dummy like he did before and screams when we put him down. We are doing pick up put down, pick up put down.... until he eventually drops off. hopefully he will learn to fall asleep without the dummy this way. We have people for dinner tomorrow night, i just hope he goes to sleep more calmly than he did tonight. one of the couples have just announced they are pregnant, I don't want Niklas to worry them !

Pidge, glad you are enjoying your holiday. Hope you are having better weather than we are here!

Leogaela · 23/05/2005 21:14

does anyone else think this is getting to be a very long thread and that we should start a new one?

Pidge · 23/05/2005 21:43

Me again! What a joy to have broadband, at home I get to log on once a week, and here this is my second go in a day!

Leogaela - to encourage you - we did 'pick up - put down' because Iris was screaming with exhaustion and failing to sleep in the evenings around the 6 week mark, and it only took a couple of nights to have an effect. Those two evenings were a bit hellish - it took about 2 hours the first night. But ever since then, bar the odd blip, she has put herself to sleep very well, once I've got her into a drowsy, eyes-drooping state.

Hope it works for you too.

The weather here is pretty typically Welsh - i.e. WET! Although the sun came out this afternoon so we dashed to the beach, which dd1 had been begging to do ever since we arrived yesterday. Anyway, the sun was indeed shining, but there was a mini-hurricane blowing, and there was a veritable sandstorm as we trekked through the dunes to the seafront. But still, we had fun.
