So how is it going for everyone? Most of us have had our babies so how was the first few weeks?

How old is she jambot?

jambot · 22/05/2005 19:47

Misdee - sorry your husband is still not well. Must be really hard for you.

jambot · 22/05/2005 19:52

She's 11 weeks on Wednesday. Aren't they supposed to be able to handle longer awake periods by now. Never really noticed her getting overtired before, but now it's so obvious - she has her special "I'm buggered" cry, more high pitched than her full-on "I'm bloody starving, feed me now" cry!
She did her current party trick of rolling from back to side to tummy and back again a few times and I think it must have used up a million baby calories, because she began to wail 2 minutes later. This party trick is entirely of her own doing - not mummy giving her a push!

3mummy · 22/05/2005 20:01

hi jambot - the party trick sounds very clever, and tiring!! Faith is 10wks on wed and does seem to be awake more than Lauren (that sounds weird, my 5yo DD1 is called Lauren!), but then I know she too has started getting over tired and won't settle. A lot of her awake time is spent watching her sisters.

jambot · 22/05/2005 20:07

Lauren thinks she's clever as well. Looks up at her adoring and admiring audience with a very smug little grin. Silly me - I'm convinced that my child is the only baby ever to have achieved these physical feats before, and think she's the cleverest baby on the planet! Silly besotted mummy!

3mummy · 22/05/2005 20:10

Totally normal besotted mummy!!

jambot · 22/05/2005 20:16

What positions do your babies sleep in? Lauren has always slept on alternating sides - with the help of a wedge thingy. Now that she is more mobile she is turning onto her back in her sleep and it wakes her up. I have to grab hold of her babygro and heave her over onto her side. Problem is she is starting to do this a few times a night and she wakes me up everytime with her moaning and groaning. Wondering whether I should bite the bullet and put her down on her back for her naps to get her used to it. Too scared to do it at bedtime in case it upsets her and she won't go back down! Is there a stage when it becomes safe for them to tummy sleep?

3mummy - there is a brilliant website which I will find for you in a moment which will have ideas on how to increase your supply...

Jambot - I think the guidance is that until they can roll unaided (onto their tummy and back onto their back again) they should continue to sleep on their back. The FSID website should have more information

jambot, Faith sleeps on her back for her main sleep, ie the only time she sleeps in her cot 10:30 - 4:30am ish. When she sleeps all other times it's either in the car (so car seat) or her swing chair or on DH or myself. She just refuses to sleep in her cot at any other time ! I think the "safe" time to let them sleep on their tummys is when they can easily roll over by themselves.

3mummy · 22/05/2005 20:40

thanks so much popsy - am off to have a look .............

norash40 · 22/05/2005 20:54

Hey all, hope you've had a good day

Just got rid of all the guests, Kiearan was baptised today and he was an absolute angle did not cry. Behaved himself really well everyone was really impressed.

Kieran sleeps in every position i.e back, side, stomach. This is because when I put him on his side he just turns either on to his back or tummy. He has been able to lift and turn his head when he sleeps on his tummy since he was born, hence I don't worry about him.

Hi all. How can I access photos and add ours too? I'd really like to see you and your babes.

Sylvia sleeps on her back when she's in bed or on her back or side when on the sofa. In the sling she falls asleep in a sitting position but slumped and then I turn her horizontally (but rather squashed).

This Tuesday i'm starting some post-natal exercises. We'll see what good they'll do.

I went to visit a nursery for Sylvia from next March, there are such long waiting lists. They do a short day 9am-3.30 pm which would fit perfectly with my son's school hours. It's £43 per day (or £52 if 8am-6pm). I'll visit a few more but i liked this one because of the hours.

jambot · 23/05/2005 15:50

Has anyone got any ideas for a blocked nose? Lauren has been waking up at strange times the last few nights and I finally figured out it's because she can't breathe properly. She hasn't got a cold but she seems all blocked up. She seems desperate to go back to sleep but can't because she can't breathe.

bonym · 23/05/2005 16:02

jambot - saline drops are great - will clear the congestion really quickly. They're the onlt thing that you can give at this age.

Glad to hear that more of the babes are sleeping better at night. Unfortunately Grace has gone from an 8hr stretch to only 7 hrs the last few nights. Not complaining though as I know we are incredibly lucky to get this.

Sorry not to respond to all your posts - this one handed typing forces me to keep things short! Great to read everyone's news though.

norash40 · 23/05/2005 16:33

Everyone seems to be getting sleep at night, I am glad that things are going so well for you guys.

Misdee, things seem to be getting better for you

Kieran seems to have decided that sleep at night is just not for him. He is going to sleep later and later and does not seem to want to sleep much during the day either. I am running on auto pilot, but then again I have had 6 good week

I hope things get better soon I don't know how much more of this sleepless nights I can take. Last night he cried on and off from about 9pm and ended up settling down at around 1am he then woke up at 5am and did not fall asleep again till 7am. He's been up every 2 hours since.

No sleep for Mummy

3mummy · 23/05/2005 18:04

We had a bad night too norash40 .

I'm a little worried Faith may have chicken pox, do any of you know if my immunity still covers her seeing as I'm BF? We've been in contact with someone with chicken pox and Faith has been unsettled for a couple of days (thought it was growth spurt) and this afternoon I have spotted a suspicious looking spot. My older DDs both had it back in Feb, and I was tested for immunity and I'm immune. I'm just worried about Faith.

That expressing technique is brill popsy!

Have to go DD2 has sickness and dihoreea (sp?).

I'm sooo tired.
