Omy, all our crayons were gifts, though many were ELC make. They are the thick chunky sort (mostly).
Try posh dept stores like John Lewis? They probably have good quality crayons, also art shops.

miniandme · 14/02/2009 19:43

we're just waiting on the sitter arriving then hubby to be and I are off out for a nice meal at chiquitos mexican resturant Mmmmmmm not often we get the night off so well looking forward to it,all the little people in bed and the rest will be in bed before we get home woohoo !!!

strawberrycornetto · 14/02/2009 20:00

Enjoy your night Mini. Am , I love mexican food. My DH is in the states by now I think, DCs in bed and I am watching tv. Have a leftover glass of red and some choccies from our romantic dinner last night, so its not all bad, at least I don't have to share!

Slacker · 14/02/2009 21:47

Am in bed trying to get 5yo to sleep, this is downside of being too lazy to do sleep training when they're babies...Am a bit pissed (Valentine's fizz, honest, don't make a habit of it) so excuse any typos (who says you have to stay off the vino when bf)!

Gill congrats on new job, in H/smith? That's where DH's last proper job was, the Albion used to appear on his c/card statement regularly! Soft play in Wood Green wasn't so bad iirc, it was Clowntown in Friern Barnet I couldn't stand...hope Malcolm's spots gone now.

Sally hope work blues were temporary, you are so right that Good Enough Is fine!

Hi Omy - I'd be fine with DH not working if only I had a job, as it is I'd be lucky to get something on min wage so we're somewhat fecked! Hopefully he'll get something soon but if not we're off to Australia to be skint in the sun!! Bfeeding toddlers is great, I started with DS3 and have never looked back, the perfect solution for those "...WAAHH!!" moments! Also v handy on long flights...

Mini hope you don't need to 'do battle' with HVs over MMR, I've just told mine I'm not interested in any form of "child health surveillance" as they call it, so she's left me alone. They sometimes forget they're offering a service. Hope you have a lovely and much deserved night off tonight!

Strawb your DH has gone skiing in the states? You are nice! Mine is still planning to go on his annual trip to Val in a few weeks, I hope it's less eventful for me than his last trip (when DS4 was 5 weeks old, I had a hospital trip and a car crash that weekend!)

Hi to Alkar, Swotty, Rozzy, LLjkk, Sarah and everyone else.

DH has dumped the sleeping boy on me, am going to try him in his cot in another room tonight, wish me luck...

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 15/02/2009 00:12

strawberrycornetto · 15/02/2009 21:03

Sarah, that sounds like fun. LOL at your DH though

Slacker, DH is there for work, but I still that I am very nice to him!!!

Ok here. DS not that well though and not really drinking or eaing well. We were at my parents this evening and he fell asleep at 5.45 and would have stayed there all night if I didn't wake him to move him home. Poor little man. I'm trying not to be neurotic mum but I am so worried that he has something wrong with him.

alkar · 16/02/2009 02:33

Another nightmare day here. DS woke at 6.45 sunday morning so I went in to check on him, he was a bit hot (38.2) so I took his sleeping bag off him and his pj top bf him then took him back to bed with me. He fell asleep for a couple of minutes then his legs started jerking then his whole body. Switched on the light and he was having a fit, his eyes were just staring ahead vacant and his lips were turning blue. I shouted for dh to ring an ambulance (he said wheres the phone!?!). The ambulance came and DS was still fitting went to A/E in the ambulance - blue lights flashing. He only came round when he got to A/E, he'd been fitting for about 30 minutes. It was horrible I honestly thought he was going to stop breathing, I have never been more scared in my life.

Anyway he is back home now and up playing since 2am because he's slept most of the day. He's just in a nappy now and his temperature is 37. Docs said its a virus hate it when they say that, I always want a definate cause then I know whats caused it. I just have to keep an eye on his temp and make sure he has all his calpol and ibuprofen.

I'm starting to worry like strawberry that there is something else wrong.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 16/02/2009 12:44

oh no Strawberry and poor you Alkar, hope you los are on the mend,

must be terrifying to see them fitting xxxxxx

strawberrycornetto · 16/02/2009 13:32

ALkar, that's terrifying. Poor you and DS. I know what you mean about "its a virus". It seems to be a catch all when they don't know what else to say. DS seemed alright this morning and I asked nursery to call if they were at all worried as I'm working at home and I've not heard anything. It just seems to be impossible to know what is actually causing any symptoms with babies, doesn't it.

swottybetty · 16/02/2009 22:25

oh alkar i am so sorry that is so horrible sending you and your ds {{hugs}} xxx

strawb how was your ds today?

gill - wd on job. did not know you were that close to redundancy.

ikea today. we ticked every box for half term weekday ikea visitors... baby? check. pregnant woman? check. teacher? check . now just trying not to spend money on maternity clothes on ebay. part of me thinks STOP - its only 14 weeks, save your money. the other part of me is thinking.... ah, but think of the ebay resale, you'd just be paying postage really as a kind of short term hire......

OP posts:
strawberrycornetto · 16/02/2009 22:46

Hello swotty, I was wondering where everyone was tonight! at your ikea trip. I love ikea although I always feel slightly freaked out that so many couples are living in identically furnished houses!! What did you buy?? Definitely buy the clothes, also look out for freecycle, I freecycled all of my maternity clothes cause I couldn't be bothered to ebay them.

Nursery said DS was miserable all day (although they didn't call like I'd asked ) and when I picked him up they said he had a rash. I feared chickenpox but it was only 3 spots, think it was just spots . His cough isn't great but he was pretty happy at home, chasing DD all over the house.

miniandme · 17/02/2009 10:01

Well looks we are joining the the pox gang!!! Jack definate chicken pox this morning now we just have to wait on Abby going down with them too! The other 3 kids and dp and I have all had them so we should be ok ,jack has real problems with his temperature control too so dreading how this is gonna affect him can see me not having any sleep the next week or so for fear of him going blue in bed with his temp ,now they are in their own room away from us i worry that i cant see him right beside me.

alkar · 17/02/2009 12:07

DS is doing better with his temp but he's still having loads of calpol and ibuprofen. His cough has got a lot worse so I'm taking him to the docs in a bit to check its not another chest infection. I am thinking seriously about taking him out of nursery and finding a childminder or am I over-reacting?. Have you thought about it strawberry?

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 17/02/2009 14:16

hello everyone, good luck with the pox mimi, glad mine are over the worst, spots have all scabbed and most scabs fell off, just waitng for the marks to go!!!!!!lol

ds has been a nightmare today went to the park with friends and he was moaning whining and fighting, then pood himself 3 bloody times!!!!!!!! i am not a happy mummy!!!!- we seem to have relapsed with the toilet habits for over 2 weeks now he has repeatedly messed himself!!!!! someone tell me what to do about it, tried stickers, no tv, threatened nappies etc, he is 4fgs and been out of nappies since he was 2yrs, 4mths!!!!!!!ARGGGGGG rant over, xxx

how are all the poorly babes doin????

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, hope everyone has had fgood first birthdaysx xxxx

alkar · 17/02/2009 19:21

Had another scare with DS earlier. I had only given him ibuprofen at 10 this morning and nothing since as he didn't seem to need it. His temp started going up again and was 38.5 stripped him, gave him a bath and sat him on the windowsil with the window open. Its back to 37 now but he's only wearing a nappy. Another sleepless night ahead....

swottybetty · 17/02/2009 20:21

oh alkar . how was the dr's?

OP posts:
sarahmikeharryandrosie · 17/02/2009 22:21

oh Alkar, big hugs to you, get well soon DANIEL, xxxxxxx

its very quiet again

strawberrycornetto · 17/02/2009 23:20

Oh Alkar, poor thing. I have thought seriously about taking DS out of nursery but more because of the allergies really. I know that if we can keep him there it will improve his immune system in the long run. He's not too bad today coughwise, certainly no worse, but he's woken up coughing twice tonight so far. We'll see what the doctors say on Thursday I guess. Hope you have an ok night.

swottybetty · 17/02/2009 23:25

argh - dh just trekked to deepest darkest north london to get a maclaren we got off ebay. its home and we know not how the brakes work. or if they work at all. poor dh looks a bit broken....

OP posts:
Gill79 · 18/02/2009 10:33

Oh Alkar poor you and DS. How scary. Can imagine us being unable to find phone too.... Hope he had an ok night and temp down. Did you get any sleep?

Swotty the brakes are bit tricky on our mclaren too. Though problem is releasing not putting on. Maybe I'm reckless but I never actually use them apart from on the bus.....

alkar · 18/02/2009 12:26

Doctor listened to his chest yesterday and said it wasn't a chest infection so I guess that ruled out now. DS woke at 2 when I went in to give him his ibuprofen. His temp was 38.5 so I stripped him off and brought him downstairs to play and cool down until 4 (I watched shameless - sick of in the night garden!). He woke at 5 for a cuddle then again at 9 when he was hot again. I can't believe how hot he is in the night its winter and he's only wearing pj's. I've taken him to nursery this morning as he's ok in himself just hot. I meant to go back to bed but I've had the washing machine and dishwasher on and cleaned the oven????????????

rozzyraspberry · 18/02/2009 13:15

Oh no Alkar - my lot have had their share of viruses over the years but never anything like that - it must have been terrrifying. Hope your lo is on the mend and yours too Strawberry.

Ds3 has also been a bit poorly too - just a chesty cough and full of the cold but he's been so miserable and clingy. It's hard going when they're ill isn't it? I now have it so can understand how he felt!

He had his 12 month booster jags this morning and was very brave. Got a lovely bookstart pack with crayons and a couple of books.

Swotty we never use the brakes on our maclaren either - when you think about it when you're using it you'll be walking most of the time and when you stop to cross the road or whatever you'll be holding onto it so I hope your dh is not too despondent!! Is it a double or are you planning on putting the baby in a sling and pushing dd initially?

Ds1 had a valentines disco at school last night - so cute. He has 3 girlfriends apparently but hasn't told them.

Ds is throwing ds1 and ds2s pens about so better go and rescue them.....

lljkk · 18/02/2009 15:35

Suggestion for next thread title:

Feb 08: Always trying to sneak past mummy so we can play in the toilet!

Or maybe that's just in my house, sigh.
