Hello all

Just a quickie while dd is having an afternoon nap.

She has been sleeping a little longer in the mornings - she must have heard me moaning about it! She did 7.30-7 Fri and Sat but that was after being awake and crying for 2 hours in the early hours of Friday morning . I have finally succumbed to all the nasty bugs going around our house and have swollen glands, a cold and a sore throat and dd has the cold too.

I have to admit that I have never seen In The Night Garden! Childrens' TV was one of the things I was dreading about having a child - I have to confess that I hate kids TV and didn't even like it much when I was a child!! Hopefully dd won't be pestering me to watch it for a while yet. She notices the TV a lot now and stands against it trying to touch the people on it so recently I've been listening to the radio instead during the day.

Can't believe dd is one in less that a fortnight. I can't wait for her party!! It's kind of a celebration for dh and I too - for me it's to celebrate surviving the first year for being a mum as there were times when I really didn't think that I would!!!

BouncingTurtle · 01/12/2008 15:50

Ds seemed a lot more lively today!

Oh I forgot, he now officially has 3 words - Mama, Dad and Nana!

I was getting him dressed in the nursery on Sunday morning, I could hear DH singing in the shower as could ds, because he immediately started saying "dad, dad, dad!"
I also put a lovely sunday dinner in front of him, he was not interested, kept shouting "nana, nana!" until Dh got him a banana and then he was happy!! Still didn't eat the sunday dinner thought!
Did it again, gave him half of his breakfast banana this morning he ate half, and shouted "nana" until we gave him the rest!

Louise - poor you and dd hope you recover soon. Ds is also a snot monster...

skidaddle · 01/12/2008 16:05

yes more snot monsters in our house - all four of us in fact. Is it disgusting that i don't even both with different tissues for each one anymore? just wipe the never-ending stream with whatever snotty tissue is to hand (excluding Dh of course who wipes his own nose)!

beckle - well done to your DS! You must be so proud of him. Good luck to your DH with the job hunting. My DH had an interview yesterday so waiting to hear..

Am loving all the ITNG disection! louise - I hate children's TV too (well all TV apart from Corrie really) but we have 2 ITNG DVDs so that is all I have ever watched. getting a little repetitive now...

wizz - I am also getting nostalgic for this time last year. DD's nativity nursery play is coming up and I had a show just before it last year. In fact I was having mild contractions while watching her sing jingle bells dressed as a donkey

DS is good with the talking too - he says da (which is actually correct pronunciation for dad if you're Irish which my DH is!), mumumum, yeah, hiya and lots of shaking and nodding his head - very cute. He seems to have completly regressd with the whole walking thing though. He used to stand alone for ages at a time, and took two steps by himself when he was 9 months - now he just crawls eveywhere and never even tries to walk. I don't mind though - saves my poor back!

claireybee · 01/12/2008 17:32

Wow Louise, well done on keeping the tv off-I used to hate kids tv too but it saved my life during ds' first few months-dd watched A LOT of Cbeebies during that time

The boob situation is worse, saw hv today and it is thrush, ds has terrible nappy rash too. Realised it was thrush yesterday, tried to get dr appt this morning but as usual at my surgery I couldn't so went to a random baby clinic (not one with my hv) and she was really good and called my surgery for me and demanded that they got a prescription ready for both me and ds. I was unsure about going seeing as the clinic was nothing to do with my surgery but am glad I did-otherwise I'd probably have spent all week phoning the dr's at 8.30am and trying and failing to get an appointment!

BT hope ds doesn't come down with anything

Insy glad you got a good response from your boss but sorry you are all ill. I had a d&v bug when pregnant with ds and it was awful, I had to call my dad to come and look after me and dd.

Ow boobs really stabbing now

BouncingTinsel · 01/12/2008 21:24

Clairey - your poor boobs! Hope the thrush clears up quickly.

Just thought I would try out my Xmas name!

Arcadie · 02/12/2008 13:48

Hi All - must do some work so won't post for long but I've lurked lots so am very sorry to hear about all the nasty thrushy, snotty, feedy debacles that have plagued your lives.

Apparently Fluconazole is the answer to at least one of them

ArchangelGabrieldie · 02/12/2008 13:52

Let's just see if the nickname change worked. I'm such a loser when it comes to computers

ArchangelGabrieldie · 02/12/2008 13:52

Yup. That's me - I'm all Christmassy up now!

claraquitetirednow · 02/12/2008 17:57

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been on for ages. DH is back now so life is a little easier although I still have my ups and downs as we are still living in a cottage in the middle of nowhere so I can feel a little isolated. However my parents are close by and have been great; also I make the effort to see friends as often as possible even if it means an hours drive!

Sorry I won't be able to reply to everyone so generally I hope you are all well. Whoever said they were nostolgic for a year ago, I second that - yesterday was my due date and I remember how each week I went shopping thinking it would be my last week and there I was a week later and a week fatter.... We're not doing much for dd2's birthday, I guess that is the lot of a neglected 2nd born, especially one born so close to Christmas.

Someone mentioned age a while ago. I think I am the oldest here at 40, although still look in my 30's and have a full head of brown hair still However, I think since having children I have been ageing about twice as quick so my looks will soon catch up with my age!

ITNG just reminds me of feeling sick as dd1 was obsessed when I was newly pregnant with dd2 and I remember lying on the sofa feeling nauseous while she watched. For all those who don't like children's tv, Peppa Pig is the way to go - it's actually very funny and ALL children seem to adore it (just try not to get sucked into all the marketing, like we have - Peppa Pig umbrella, Peppa Pig swim suit, Peppa Pig wellies etc etc etc).

Right. Better go, dd1 has just taken all the decorations off the horrible gold tinsel tree we so painstakingly decorated this afternoon....

insywinsyspider · 02/12/2008 20:20

liking the christmassy names - am I the only one who's finding it hard to get into the mood till lo's birthdays are over?

clara - we're not doing much for ds2's bday, a tea party for grandparents, uncles and family and godparents, feeling bit bad as getting lots of invites to first birthdays

skid - I have a tisue in each pocket at the moment which gets used for any snotty nose going, its a never ending stream, before children I used to look at other kids and think why can't they wipe their nose, now I know its a losing battle - ds2 wakes up every morning at the moment with his eyebrows standing upright, styled with snot

clairey - hope your boobs get better soon x

gone from bad to worse here, my childminder handed in her notice (rant alert now!) she's given me 4 wks to find new childcare for Jan, I go back to work a week on Monday so actually she's given me 2 wks because I can't get out of the office on my first week back and then its christmas - work aren't being very understanding, in their eyes I've had 12 months to sort this out (and I don't think it helps I've just told them I'm pg) - I'm upset because the boys liked it there and I've been sending ds1 all year to retain the place - what a waste of money - I hate the idea of dumping them on the first person who can have them, nurserys all full and childminders that have vancancies (that I've seen so far) are depressingly bad - I shouldn't be supprised they have space for 2 children at drop of a hat... I need to go back to get my next lot of mat leave, I feel really let down and upset about getting possibly sub standard care for my babies

only been on here for self obessed rants recently but it does make me feel better - I didn't sleep much last night so I guess I need to get it off my chest

hope everyone gets better soon x

cazzybabs · 02/12/2008 20:30

Insy...nightmare...hope you find a new CM soon

Who ever has thrush - hope you are better soon

and I ave just read loads of posts and forgottom everything else....

my period has finally started now its here although for a longtime I was worried where it had gone and that I never have another one nor another baby (NOT YET).

BouncingTinsel · 02/12/2008 21:03

Insy - at your CM! How awful for you - did she say why she was handing her notice in?

Claraq - hope you and the girls are well and dd1 is settling down ok. Is it January you move back to your house?

Cazzy - sympathy on the period!

ArchangelGabrieldie · 02/12/2008 23:25

Insy the CM issue sucks royally. faced similar problems on my return to work and know exactly what you mean about not just wanting to dump them on whoever's got space. Is it worth posting something in a difft specialist thread for a recommended CM in your area? Or failing that - send them wherever you think they'll be safe (if not perfectly OfSteddedly entertained) and get your name down for a whole load of nurseries / Cms that you're happy with for as soon as they can.

My b'day is the 12th Nov and I refuse to get Christmassy before that. As for waiting until DD's birthday is out of the way - she's 11th so that'd only give me a fortnight!!! this time last year I was already 5days overdue, getting annoyed and worrying frantically that the later she got, the closer her borthday was to Christmas. And yet it was still a magical time and I still miss it!

ArchangelGabrieldie · 02/12/2008 23:26

ahem. Yes - My DD is so special she has a BORTHday. The day I gave BORTH obviously... (smacks self in head at poor typing)

Louise76 · 03/12/2008 09:32

Hello all

Just sneaked on as dd is having a surprise morning nap! We're still all snotty here too! Insy - lol at your ds' eyebrows styled with snot. Yesterday I was combing snot out of the front of dd's hair before I washed it - lovely! She's got LOADS of hair and she just loves rubbing snot in to it at the moment!

Insy - nightmare about your childminder. you'd think she could be more considerate near Christmas. Hope you get something sorted out

Wizz - hope ds had a good birthday and was feeling better for his big day!

DD's birthday is 13th and I'v decided that Christmas won't start until after that !(by that I mean tree, decorations, writing cards etc. I've done most of my shopping)

Better go now as DD and I are going out to a baby group so I'll have to wake her up

Wizzska · 03/12/2008 10:32

Hello everyone. What a lot of news to catch up on.

Insy - sorry to hear about your childminder woes. It seems if it isn't one thing it's another with you at the moment. Hopefully things will die down for a while soon for you. Are guess you could get any old thing temporarily for your DCs, I'm sure they'll be fine for a couple of weeks until you find a good CM. What a nightmare.

Clairey - massive sympathy about the boobs. Can't believe we're still getting sore tits now. One side for me is getting a little raw now DS is cutting his 7th and 8th teeth on the bottom. He bites a bit. I'm going to make a concerted effort to give up bf by christmas now he is officially a year old. We've started on the cows' milk now too. He had his first lot this morning and didn't seem to notice any different from his formula.

I think we'll get a tree at the weekend. Now DS's birthday is over we can get a bit festive.

We had a lovely birthday with him yesterday. He particularly loved scoffing his mini slice of birthday carrot cake. He absolutely stuffed it in with both hands. A naughty but much appreciated treat for him. At least it had carrots in. We went to soft play with him in the afternoon which he liked too.

Wizzcarol · 03/12/2008 12:10

Have got a new festive name.

claireybee · 03/12/2008 14:48

The boob thing is a bit of a fiasco-dh picked up the prescription yesterday and came home with a cream that said it was for athletes foot. I thought but figured, well maybe a fungal infection is a fungal infection so it'll be fine, then opened it and read the info leaflet. Bearing in mind what we need the cream for the leaflet says
a)Not to be used on children under 10 years b) not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
c) Not for use on the genitals or nipples

DH went back to the pharmacy and they said something along the lines of oh it should be fine, these leaflets are always over cautious anyway so we then called the out of hours doctor who said not to use the cream on me, but it should be ok to use v sparingly on ds just not on his actual genitals. I said ok but what about the patches of thrush he has on his genitals, to which the dr said "Hmm, yes you should just go and buy some Canestan", asked if he could do us a prescription and also for the tablet which hadn't been on the prescription even though I heard the HV ask for it and he said no, you can't take any oral thrush treatments while breastfeeding (bollocks no?). Still can't get a GP appointment so boobs are still agony. Will try again tomorrow but if not am seeing HV on friday for DS's review and will refuse to leave until I get a prescription!

Anyway!

Good to hear from you Clara and sorry you are still isolated. I'm DD is a fan of Peppa Pig too, she saw a girl with a Peppa pig umbrella in town and has been asking for one ever since, already has the wellies!

Insy that's awful for you about your CM, hope you find somewhere you are happy with.

Wizz Glad you enjoyed Rory's birthday. Carrot cake sounds very healthy, have been unable to keep chocolate/cake away from DS with dd around, anything she has he wants and I can't exactly say no to them when I sit there scoffing it all day!

claireybaubles · 03/12/2008 14:52

Um, Christmas name...

how's this?

Wizzcarol · 03/12/2008 15:31

Claireybaubles - I like it.

What a pain with your thrush cream. All that bother and meanwhile you're suffering and have to wait another day for relief.

Caz10 · 03/12/2008 21:48

Evening all!

Long time no write, so sorry, work has been mental

clairey - ow to thrush - I've only had it once but GP was useless, I had printed out BfN advice leaflet and she really sneered at it. Flucowotsit is what everyone on MN recommended. Good luck!

clara glad you are getting to feel a bit more settled - what a rollercoaster ride 2008 has been for you!

BT have just read through your other thread and can sympathise/empathise 100% - will reply on there asap!

insy that is so crap re your CM - I hope you get something sorted.

SORRY and hello to everyone else - I keep hanging off from posting until I get a time to do an uber post (along I can't beat you every I don't think Arcadie ) but I am realising I will never have time to do that so will just need to try to do it in dribs and drabs!

Snotville here too! Loving the "trail of snot from nose to boob" effect as someone else mentioned!

DD only has 4 teeth but there are 2 gigantic ones on the way, so that combined with the cold has meant NO sleep here, I am ridiculously tired! Plus work is at that PIA stage where we are rushing to finish "proper" work, but all the Xmas madness is starting too so the kids are hyper...aarrgh. Still have a massive workload, at least 3hrs per night, my boss is OTT with the paperwork. POOOOOO.

Can't believe she will be a year next week! i will be crying at work all day!!

Good to read all your news

OP posts:
cazzybabs · 03/12/2008 21:49

clairy - what a nightmare. hope you get it sorted ASAP. BTW have you tried (As a stop gap) live yoghurt?

cazzybabs · 03/12/2008 21:49

ohh hi Caz10....

Caz10 · 03/12/2008 21:51

Oh - how could I forget - we LOVE in the night garden!

Dh and I keep find ourselves watching it very seriously when dd has totally lost interest and has crawled away ha ha!

I am fascinated by the scale of everything in comparison to everything else - why do they all become so small inside the PInky Ponk? And I am always surprised at how tiny Makka Pakka is next to Iggle Piggle! DD is a huge IP fan and laughs uproariously everytime he falls down - that one never gets old in our house!

OP posts:
BouncingTinsel · 04/12/2008 04:57

Liking all the Xmas names!

Clairey - aaaghh @ your prescription mix up, hope they get you sorted quickly!

Caz - sympathies on the job front, sounds chaotic and also on the non-sleeping!

Louise (and others with snot monsters) imagine if you could use snot to power things... the world energy crisis would be solved in no time!!

Well I am now off sick. Had a breakdown at work over something so stupid and trivial that in the past would have just annoyed me. I was in my office crying and shaking, feeling sick and at one point I was struggling to breathe. So I rang my nice HV (who is moving to a different area!) and she got me an appointment with the nurse practitioner, who has advised me to sign myself off for now. She has made me an appointment to see a GP next Wednesday and then see how I get on.
But atm I'm just staying at home. Ds will be going into nursery on some days while I am off but for shorter days while I get myself sorted, I'm going to go down to the local job centre and get some advice.
My boss asked me to ring him on Friday to see how I am...

Having trouble sleeping hence the early morning post. We have started night weaning ds, and having some success, after my horribleness to ds on Monday night DH took over and went into ds when he woke up. First night he woke up at 1am and 3am and cried for an hour until dh managed to settle him.
Tuesday night he woke up at 11.30pm, 2am and 4am, but it didn't take as long for ds to settle.
Last night he woke at 1am and dh went into him, cuddled him and offered him water then put him in his cot. He cried a little but then settled himself. Just before 4am ds woke up again, cried a little, stopped cried again then settled himself and is still fast asleep. So I'm very hopeful for tonight!!
Sorry about the long post btw!
