OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BouncingTurtle · 29/07/2008 18:28

Hello everyone!
It is become roasting hot here again, cue another whingefest from Daniel
I've ended up putting him to bed now as he wouldn't nap this afternoon and was obviously knackered, poor love! It was horrible this morning!
Well we were supposed to have my stepson for the week, but he decided yesterday he wanted to go home, so Dh has run him back to his mums. He'll then have to go pick him up on friday morning for our trip to Scotland. Am and for DH, not DSS's fault, his mum allowed him to go camping with his Godmother last week for a few days, only she didn't go with them - so he only saw her for a day before DH picked him up and it really upset him. Pretty crap timing on her part - she was the one who suggested we have him this week!
Beckle - DS has been doing similar, he pushes with his feet but can't fugure out what to do with his arms! I suppose they'll get their one day - probably when we least expect it!

Amani - yes we had rain, but not too much though. How's dd2's excema? This heat won't be helping, I bet
Clairey - yes ds is grumpy as well and I'm wondering what it'll be like when we go to Spain, but hopefully as we are going middle of October it won't be too bad plus my dad has aircon through out the house.
I had a friend who worked in Arizona for 6 months (same kind of climate as Botswana) and he spent most of his time rushing from aircon hotel to aircon car to aircon work place! He absolutely hates the heat! Hope you will be able to enjoy your holiday anyway, will there be swimming pools to cool off in as well?

Hi to everyone else, no doubt enjoying the sunny weather!

skidaddle · 29/07/2008 20:30

evening everyone,

my first ever night away from DS tonight (in Southampton for work) - I was almost in tears last night at the prospect but it has actually been fine although have had to express loads and then chuck it down the sink which kills me. Had to express in a shitty train toilet on the way here with people trying to open the door because they thought it was broken - oh the things we do for our babies...

thought I would get my first full night's sleep and lie in being down here until my supervisor informed me we are meeting at 7.30 tomorrow morning to go through my thesis.. but should get a full night's sleep

beckle - how exciting Evieis nearly crawling - Love that stage when they just rock on all fours - the calm before the storm of babyproofing and not being able to leave her!

clairey lol at your DH's response to the idea of CC - I can see his point. Can't believe your DD is in the terrible twos already, I think of her as being a baby still. Has she started with the 'whhhhhyyyyy?' stage as well?
PILs looked after the DCs when we went out but I think you're right that a beery BF at 2am probably contributed to Milo's late morning

bouncing - poor you with your bad night, I actually find whining worse than crying - like you it makes me but crying makes me and more sympathetic. Hope you have a better night tonight

Caz10 · 29/07/2008 21:17

evening all! will post properly tomorrow but just wanted to get this back on my list!

had a lovely couple of days away for our anniversary, dd was v g and slept so well...better than she EVER does at home, on the big double bed with me, dh on the single camp bed ho ho!! Seriously contemplating a hotel size double now and chucking dh out for good!!

clara - hellloooooo and hope you're settling in ok.

night night from me - 9.30 also v late in this house!!

BouncingTurtle · 29/07/2008 21:32

Ambi - yes I am on the MN Facebook group!

Forgot to say went into work, and had a brief chat with boss am clear on what I'll be doing and met my new staff members when I went over to the lab! I'm actually kind of excited about going back. They made me work to, had to look at the GCMS which wasn't working properly, but no not fixed it lol!

claireybee · 30/07/2008 10:53

BT are your initials SB? And your facebook pic is you in wedding dress? It looks like you but I don't want to add you as a friend in case it isn't and some random mnetter thinks I am stalking them

Caz we mostly sleep ds in with me, dh booted out on the sofabed-me and ds both sleep better that way and dh gets a full nights sleep that way . Not ideal for, erm, marital relations though!

Skid wow you must have tons of milk, when ds doesn't feed as much I barely notice, no engorgement or anything. I was worried it meant I didn't have milk anymore but he still seems satisfied and it still sprays everywhere if he pulls off mid feed. Did you survive last night? Shame about the early morning meeting! No dd isn't at the why stage yet, at the moment it is "what's that?"

claireybee · 30/07/2008 10:55

Oh and BT there is a pool at FIL'S place but when I lived there it wasn't really usable-full of green slime, I certainly wouldn't put my babies in it!! Hopefully it will be cleaned when we go...

fifisworld · 30/07/2008 12:53

Hello Everyone..

Clara I hope you are settling in ok

BT I requested to be in the MN group on facebook a few days ago but it hasn't been accepted yet

Skid We also had a night out on friday and ds's were staying out but i was still up early on sat morning. We were also out until about 2am but im only just recovering now.

BouncingTurtle · 30/07/2008 16:00

Fifisworld - are you waiting for an email? I never got one, just noticed that it was listed in my Groups when I checked yesterday.
Clairey - yes that's me! Yes, I will be your friend
My boobs never feel full, longest I've gone between feeds is 5 hours and they just feel a little throbby and tender IYKWIM.

fifisworld · 30/07/2008 16:07

BT Its not in my groups!! Can i be your friend as well??

BouncingTurtle · 30/07/2008 18:38

Of course you can
I can't actually see when I joined, so not sure how long it took to get approved. I didn't get any notification of it AFAIK!

fifisworld · 30/07/2008 22:29

BT just added you....anyone else want to be my friend???

becklespeckle · 31/07/2008 00:11

Evening all! Decided today I am fed up with being inbetween sizes. I can either get a bit trimmer so my trousers are not so tight on the leg or I can stuff my face until I need a bigger size! Decided to try and fit the clothes I've got first so went to the gym tonight...sure I'll regret it tomorrow!

BT, thanks for the facebook add! Glad your trip into work was okay, I'm sure you'll enjoy it when you go back but the thought of it is quite daunting I guess. I am dreading going back and it's only for 2 evenings a week! Also means I probably need to stop bfing by then (end Sept) which I have mixed emotions about. Should be fun too as Evie has started to refuse the bottle! As for new tricks, they always learn them when we least expect it! I have started putting the side bar of Evie's cot up now as knowing my luck she'll learn to pull herself up on it and fall out!

Skid, well done for your night away from Milo, hope it wasn't too hard for you.

Fifi, I'll be your facebook friend (and anyone elses who wants to)! Am BT's friend, first initial R, can't see much of my face as am hiding behind Evie!

BouncingTurtle · 31/07/2008 06:40

Fifi - yes I've accepted your invite!

Beckle - another bottle refusnik here! My friend switched from bfing to ffing instantly, as soon as her ds took a bottle - he had also been a bottle refusnik! What does Evie do when you try to give her a bottle? Daniel pushes it away or tries to play with it, if you manage to get the teat in his mouth he spits it out! I'm going to try a cup instead, on the advice of the BFC.
BTW if you'd rather not stop bfing, you miht find that even being out 2 evenings a week at work you might be okay - while I was at work, DS was with his dad, I fed him at 9am before we set off, normally he'd have a feed around 11am but he refused the bottle DH offered him, and then didn't have a feed until we got back after 1pm, and he seemed fine!

claireybee · 31/07/2008 11:02

BT have added you. Fifi and anyone else I'll be your friend too, just to confuse you all my surname actually begins with A not B. I think you all know my first name though??? Ooh is quite scary coming out into the open!

When my friend had the dc last week for a couple of hours she said ds just chewed on the bottle but he drank a bit out of the lid like a cup and she got him to take a bit more by using the syringe. The other night he had 2oz from a bottle from dh and then took another oz from me-I used a fast flow teat so he didn't really have to suck on it, just put it in his mouth.

Whoops ds just selected an adult movie on sky, better put the remote up high!

becklespeckle · 31/07/2008 16:20

I'll have a look for you on FB Clairey! BT, Evie does indeed push the bottle away, purses her lips and tilts her chin away too - then resorts to screaming for a bit, then (reluctantly) will take some. Thing is, she was taking it really well until a week ago! I changed the milk from SMA to Aptamil (as she was very constipated) and she seemed to like the Aptamil, was even draining the bottle! And then...she changed her mind! Good to hear that Daniel was okay without his milk, am hoping that Evie will be a bit better at it by the time I go back to work although we are off to see Lee Evans in a couple of weeks so that will be the first time of leaving her, and the first time of her taking a feed from someone else! She won't even entertain DH doing it! Might try her with milk in her cup instead. My SIL should be okay with her though - she has much experience with a bottle refusnik herself! I did think about continuing once I was back at work but I think my supply would dry up, I just can't get anything off when I express.

BouncingTurtle · 31/07/2008 16:43

I found you Clairey, yes I assumed your surname would begin with a B! LOL at your ds, he's a bit young for that sort of thing

Beckle - that sounds like a good idea about the cup, I wouldn't have thought the different tastes of SMA & Aptamil would be a problem as your little one should be used to lots of different tastes now through the food she's been eating, so I guess it is the bottle itself! DS used to take a bottle, it is recently that he has started to refuse them, even from DH!

becklespeckle · 31/07/2008 17:56

No BT, I agree, I don't think it is the taste of the milk either, rather the method of delivery! Akward Funny little buggers things aren't they?! She just took a few ounces from her bottle, started to take it fine but once her brothers disturbed her she started her little scream, little suck routine sigh. Put the remainder in her cup and she was more than happy to take another 3 ounces although it took ages so won't try that again except as a last resort.

When I took DS2 to his last orthoptist test he recommended that I get DD's eyes checked when she is 1 because DS2 has a squint and very long vision (got his first glasses at 14 months old!) - it can run in families. I have a slight concern about DD's left eye anyway as sometimes it is not quite straight. Anyway, when I spoke to the HV today about a referral she said she had noticed the left eye was a little slower and said to remind them nearer the time (no waiting list for orthoptist) and get her checked at 9 months. A big part of me hopes she won't need glasses but at least I know if she does that they shouldn't hamper her at all - DS2 certainly doesn't let his get in the way!

Right, must go now to book my shopping, I won the comp to win Ocado vouchers so having posh shop this week! Was soo pleased as I never win anything!

BouncingTurtle · 31/07/2008 18:45

Oh wow! Congrats, Beckle! Buy yourself a nice treat

I think Ds will need glasses, if only because both DH and I are astigmatic and myopic
We will get him very cute ones, of course!

fifisboys · 31/07/2008 19:37

Beckle Congratulations i never win anything. Also added you on fb

Nothing at all happening here apart from dp is out so i can watch tv instead of having the xbox on
Ethan had his 6 month (at almost 8 month) check up with health visitor yesterday which went well. He's almost sitting up for more than a few seconds now but has lost interest in solids and just wants milk Maybe the heat??

BT i've had to request you again for some reason you arent on my list

Clairey I will look for you now

BouncingTurtle · 31/07/2008 21:16

Yes I've confirmed your request.
It could well be the heat! Ds went down about 7pm, he has stirred a couple of times but still asleep - I'm crossing my fingers that tonight he will stay asleep until I go to bed!
We're off to Bonny Scotland tomorrow afternoon, and will be back on Sunday evening, so probably won't be on at all this weekend!
We're off to Aviemore on the train - First Class staying at the MacDonald resort, so looking forward to it!

fifisboys · 31/07/2008 21:47

BT Its worked!!
Enjoy your weekend, im very

Clairey requested you as well

Also forgot to ask, Ethan has started blowing raspberries all the time, but now its almost everytime i try to feed him. Do you think this is just a game or is he trying to tell me he doesn't like what im giving him? Anyone else's lo do this?

becklespeckle · 31/07/2008 23:57

Did think about buying a nice treat BT but my sensible head tells me that it would be 2 weeks food shopping so... Am sure Daniel will look very cute if he needs glasses! I was a bit unsure when they told me DS2 needed them, he seemed too young! But OMG, the first time he put them on he just looked so cute! Will see if I can find a really young pic of him and post it up! Am very of you too for your weekend, train sounds fab and Scotland is gorgeous, we drive through Aviemore when we go to Orkney its lovely! Fingers crossed you get a good night tonight.

Hi Fifi, like the subtle name change! Didn't notice it at first! I would say that the raspberries are almost definitely a game! Evie doesn't do raspberries yet but likes to drop finger foods on the floor and then look down to see where they've gone. Also does it with toys and DS1 is daft enough to keep picking them up. I think it could be the heat or maybe the humidity putting Ethan off his solids, Evie wasn't keen today or yesterday either. Mind you, I've been a bit off mine too, I didn't realise until this evening that I hadn't eaten much today - very unlike me!

becklespeckle · 01/08/2008 00:14

BT Found a couple of pics of DS2 when he was small with his glasses and posted them!

BouncingTurtle · 01/08/2008 06:19

Beckle - Ds2 looks so adorable in his glasses, I especially like the one in his kilt - I take it he was a page boy in that pic?
I have been awake since 4.30 when DS woke up to feed, he slept until 5:45 though!! Ah well, given me a chance to sort out some more packing for tonight!

BouncingTurtle · 01/08/2008 06:27

DS can't blow raspberries, he makes the sound but not deliberately, he is an expert clapper though, always clapping his hands and it is quite audible as well - and very cute
He is shuffling himself all over the place, trying to crawl, he is going backwards atm, my friend told me her ds did that as well before he started going forward!
He is also trying to climb out of the baby nest (I knew that wouldn't last as a keep-baby-in-place-device-while-I-do-the-washing-up- device!).
So we have bought him this. We were going to buy a baby walker but then Dh spotted the trike, and we thought that would be better. I wasn't keen on a baby walker as they take up so much room, but this is more compact and also has more longevity as well.
