Hello people, is anyone there?

claireybee · 23/07/2008 16:58

Cazzy sounds exactly like my dd was. No advice really other than keep putting food in front of her, don't stress if she doesn't eat and just wait... DD was 9 months before she ate anything (a jaffa cake and a gherkin I seem to remember ) and 13 months before she ate anything even resembling a meal. She isn't at all fussy now though.

Caz listen to Skid not me-she actually knows what she is talking about whereas I was basing my thoughts on a dream!

Skid I am glad you said that about not worrying about your dd-my friend looked after the dc for me this morning so I could get some major cleaning done and I let dd go without a second thought but was worrying about ds! Then I felt really guilty like it meant I didn't care about dd as much...
RE the move will your salary be higher to match the cost of living?

Loucee glad your ds is recovering.

BT sound like sleep is going really well for you. Oh I am jealous but seeing as I'm not actually doing aything about it I should just shut up and stop complaining! You'll all probably think I am a loon but the thought of doing controlled crying actually terrifies me!

DS hardly bfs at all in the day anymore, he still asks for it a lot but doesn't want to lie still enough to get it! He is on off on off constantly and a lot of the time doesn't even wait for the letdown before he wants to be off exploring. Earlier on I got him to take a good feed by standing him on the floor between my legs as I sat on the sofa and leaning forward so he could get to my boob. It was really uncomfortable but I was worried about him getting dehydrated otherwise.

cazzybabs · 23/07/2008 17:12

claireybee - I have done that position with dd1 - he he! Dh reckons he could do a book of Kama Sutra breast feeding positions.

BouncingTurtle · 23/07/2008 17:31

Blimey you must be quite the contortionist, Clairey!!
I hoping for a repeat performance tonight, hopefully with less crying on ds's part - it was hard, I hate him crying, have rarely left him on his own to cry. Oh, and non leaky nappy would be nice!

Jewelsandgems · 23/07/2008 20:17

Hello everyone!

agree Claireybee, CC terrifies me too, but so many have had success with it. I must admit, if DD2 is just yelling, I leave her fora few mins and only if this turns into real crying do I go in.

Oh and Ambi got the magic creme which is really nice and aso doctors said she had a fungal infection so gave me some anti-fungal creme - nice...! And alhough it is supposed to be soothing, she does not like it much. Oh well - don't want her growing mushrooms on her face so she'll just have to get used to it lol!

DD has woken at 5am the last two nights - 5!! We are so used to out 6-6.30 wakeup the earlier ones a re a real killer! Saying that, I know quite a few of you are still feeding and having wakeups in the night so I wll stop moaning immediatly.

Drinking wine, after having a lovely salad supper - mmmm and then bed soon and a book (bliss emoticon)

Wishing all your little ones long sleeps and you too

Wizzska · 23/07/2008 20:45

Jewels - I think quite a lot of my friends from my NCT group are having wake up problems too. My ds had a few howlers recently although he generally sleeps well now. A couple of nights ago he woke up at 9.00pm ish and cried for an hour and a half and has had real problems settling to sleep day and night. Low and behold his first 2 teeth appeared this morning. I hope that was what all the fuss was about.

Sorry if I'm incoherant. Have just got in from having a nice glass of Rose with my DH on our patio by the pond. Very pleasant. DS sleeping soundly after a long day and swimming this morning.

Claireybee, I don't want to tell you what to do because everyone is different and every baby is different. What I will say is that CC is horrible and makes you feel sick the first time you do it but it may not be as bad as you think. It was awful while it lasted but it didn't last long for us and it worked a dream for us. From waking and feeding several times a night for 7 months, since cc 3 weeks ago every night he's slept through or more or less slept through. I told myself when he was crying that I was doing him a favour and teaching him how to sleep and now he sleeps much better for it and we all feel good. I bought Dr Ferber's book and read it while he was crying to instill in my brain that I was being cruel to be kind. Crying lasted only 40 mins as I've posted previously.

I've added myself to the Facebook MN Group and I feel a bit naked....

Like you Wizz, too much vino...

becklespeckle · 24/07/2008 00:23

Hiya all! First day of the summer holidays here today and it didn't go too badly. Evie had a nice long nap this morning and boys were watching TV and making paper aeroplanes so I had a lovely bath and read a couple of chapters of my book - bliss! Took them to the school field this afternoon on their bikes to burn off some energy. Evie loved sitting on the rug and watching the children playing although got a bit overtired and didn't want to go in her pushchair to nap!

Bouncing, glad the picnic went well despite Daniel's screaming! Evie always screams and fusses if there is lots of interesting stuff going on - she'd far rather be nosey! I was going to go to a BF picnic locally to me on Monday but couldn't because I wouldn't have been able to get home in time to pick boys up from school. Well done on the sleep, hope tonight goes well for you!

Loucee, grr for your car, other people's carelessness really upsets me, especially when they leave no details. IKWYM about working a couple of evenings not feeling the same as full time. For me it doesn't feel like a 'real' job because it is much more mind numbing basic than the work I used to do before children but I love being at home in the daytime so it is worth putting up with. It is a real big thing at first but you soon settle into your new way of life - I can't remember what it was like to work 9-5!

Ambi, I think you can have the catch-up crown back, that was a very impressive post! Thanks for thinking DD is a pretty baby, I think so too . Your DD is gorgeous too, doesn't she look proud of herself sitting up?! DD has started to rock while sitting too, I think it must be to do with learning to get mobile as the day after the rocking started she learned to get on her hands and knees and now does that and rocks too. Reckon it might be time to dust off the stairgates... Found these which might help your LO's knees whilst crawling on solid floors although we had laminate when DS2 was a baby and it didn't seem to bother him much! Until today DD would only drink from a cup if you took the lid off and tipped it up for her but earlier I gave her a cup while she was lying back and she drank really well from it. It was a Tommee Tippee anyway up cup. I'm a fan of Facebook too, I'm in the MN group on there as well and felt just like you when I put my nickname on there under my real name. Will have to see if I can find you!

Buzzy, hows DD's chest now? Hope she is okay.

Amani, bless your DD! Have you had any proper answers about your Thyroid? How are you feeling now?

Clairey, that house sounds great! I totally get your frustration and DH messing up DS's naps - men just don't get how important routine is to babies do they?!

Caz, hope you had a fab anniversary! Lucky you to have a DH who helps out around the house! Mine runs the hoover round occasionally, cuts the grass and cleans the windows but general day to day cooking and cleaning is my job. The other day he commented the bathroom needed a clean so I pointed him in the direction of the cleaning stuff. Some days I do not stop all day with doing stuff for the rest of the family and the house, since he is unemployed now it would not hurt him to help out when he sees something needs doing!

Wizz, DD is doing well with food although she has started to refuse anything savoury if it is served on a spoon. She amazed me on Sunday though as when we had our lunch I put a couple of bits from my plate on her highchair table and she picked it up and ate it! She has a lot of stuff pureed fairly smooth still but will eat mashed or finger foods happily too. She also will eat chunks of things if you put them in her mouth. She likes banana, toast, cheese, and pear the best.

Kelbel sorry to hear you have been poorly, hope you are feeling lot better now.

Jewels, funny how hard it is to get rid of their baby stuff when they don't need it anymore isn't it? I don't want anymore children but I still sniff a little when DD grows out of her things!

Jewelsandgems · 24/07/2008 06:53

quick post to beckle - thanks for the link to those crawlers am going to order some later for definate (and the amount of crawling I seem to go, may get some for me too ))

Also, looking at your pictures of your DD (who is very very cute) where did you get that mat from where your DD is layed on face down on it, and there are all those things for her to look at/play with? Because my DD is bored with her gym and this looks lots of fun for her.

BouncingTurtle · 24/07/2008 07:42

Awww our babies are growing up so fast, all this talk of crawling and standing up

[Smile]

Beckle Glad you and the brood had a lovely day, your kids are all so gorgeous!

Jewels - I also got the Avent Magic Cream (thanks Ambi) it has done a great job of clearing up Daniel's chin rash!

Ambi How do I join the MN Facebook group! I want in!!

Wizzka - Same here, still a couple of babies with sleep problems, the thing is I bet those that sleep through then start waking up again are probably harder work because you get used to having a longer sleep I guess! Since DS has never slept through the night, I've adjusted to the interrupted sleep so it doesn't affect me as badly when he wakes more frequently. Still, I wouldn't say no to a good nights sleep

Caz10 Hope your DH liked his pressie - what did you get?

Last night, did the same thing, after his last feed downstairs took ds upstairs, and stood by his cot rocked him gently, told him a story he cried and protested a bit but soon fell asleep then I put him in his cot. Again stirred a little but I just stroked his hair and said "night night Daniel, sleepy time". he didn't take as long as the previous night. He stirred once after I left him, but immediately went up and stroked his head again. Basically it's stuff I've read in NCSS.
I went out to the NCT branch meeting, DH rang me at 9.30 to say he was stirring lots but refusing to go back to sleep! I could hear him crying in the background
Got home about 10pm and he was wide awake - DH had to change his nappy, it had come undone we think it was because it was so hot he sweated it off!! Think this why he woke up. Anyway I fed him, put him back down, in just shortsleeved pyjama top, nappy and just a sheet over him. He woke up at 2am, 4.30am and 6am! So not too bad at all!

mixedmama · 24/07/2008 09:28

Wow new thread.... I am absolutely knackered. DS2 has contracted scabies from FIL who came back from Bangladesh recently and didnt bother to get his rash checked out. We all all off work confined to the house, except the odd tripto butchers or shops for dinner. DS2 hardly sleeping at all as he is scratching all night.... we are going on hols on Thurs so really hope all the treatment works...

DS1 last night went to bed and remerged an hour later with his hair covered in a whole tub of vaseline... and then proceeded to scream the house down when i tried to wash it off. Had to laugh as the alterntive was crying.

Sorry just dont have the energy to catch up.

fifisworld · 24/07/2008 09:37

Morning everyone

I'm struggling to keep up with you all at the minute!!

Wizzka Well done on the new thread, hows the diet going? I'd lost 5lb but i have a feeling i've put some back on ive lost interest over the last few days, must get back on track

Loucee My cs scar has almost faded at the sides, still slightly raised and a tiny bit red in the middle but otherwise it's fine. My mw used to say how good the cut was etc It's healed better than with ds1 emcs but i think its with Ethan being an elective so it wasn't rushed.

BT It's true what you've just said about the sleeping. Ethan normally goes 7pm-6.30, then back to sleep after a feed until about 8. BUT...every few weeks he will start waking up a few times through the night, mostly just for a dummy but it does really make a difference when you are used to sleeping!!
Also about the facebook group...just search mumsnet in groups, you have to request to join!

Caz Hope you enjoyed your anniversary, did you get anything nice?

Well i've had to pack away Ethans bouncy chair..he's too big for it
He's been going in the baby walker which he seems to like, and i'm having to put him in his car seat while im busy. Still not sitting up properly but he's pushing up with his legs and rolling all over. He's also got 2 teeth through at the bottom.

Hello to everyone else

claireybee · 24/07/2008 11:26

Oh MM poor you . Your IL's do give you problems don't they?!

Jewels moan away-I think it is much harder to go from sleep to no sleep than to continuously have no sleep!

Wizz I know you are right, I just can't seem to get past the feeling sick part. Also a few times when he was younger and cried so much I had to just put him in his cot and leave him to it (before I got angry with him) and he went on for so long and got so wound up that I couldn't help but feel that I was damaging him by doing so. If he just cried for a while then gradually calmed down it would be easier but so far he has just screamed and screamed until I've given in. Iknow for CC to work you have to fully commit to it otherwise you are just letting them cry for no reason and I'm not sure I can do it-when he is still crying after an hour and a half or two hours I am bound to give in and then I've just been cruel for no reason!

Cazzy can you suggest any other bf positions that might work for ds? That one didn't work today

Louise76 · 24/07/2008 14:22

Hello all.

Wow this thread moves fast - another new one already!

Ambi & Beckle - I'm in awe of your catch up messages!

We've had a bad couple of days with dd and I think it's the heat. Had anyone else's dd been difficult to settle due to the heat?

She has been refusing to nap in her cot during the day. She usually has at least one nap in her cot quite happily but the last couple of days she's been screaming as soon as you leave the room and then kept on screaming. This means that I've had to go out for a walk with the buggy to get her to sleep. Sometimes this is OK but other times I just want half an hour to myself in the house to catch up on housework (or go on mn and eat biscuits!)

The last 2 nights she's done the same when we've put her in her cot after her last feed. Normally she goes straight to sleep. Last night she finally went to sleep at 10.15pm having been put in her cot initially at 6.45pm!! Hats off to all of you you have this sort of thing on a regular basis. I feel frazzled after 2 nights of it.

DD's room is upstairs opposite ours and it gets really hot when it's sunny as it's south facing and the sun beats in all afternoon and well in to the evening on a nice day. The thermometer said 24/25 deg last night and that was with the windows wide open and a fan on. Tonight we're going to try putting her in a small room downstairs at the front of the house where it's much cooler. I'm not keen on her being on a different floor from us but dh says that's why we have a monitor.

Does anyone else's lo sleep on a different floor?

cazzybabs · 25/07/2008 09:44

Horrah Evie has started to eat some food - she had clearly had enough of this BLW and has decided it is puree all the way. She has also slept through the night - 10 - 7.45. She has also eaten some black playdoh the girls left lying around - whoops!!!

Anyway we are off to Cornwall tomorrow - am not looking forward to the drive. It is a long way and forcast rain rain rain and more rain.

claireybee · 25/07/2008 14:12

Great news Cazzy!

Louise did dd sleep any better in the other room?

Ds slept semi ok last night. I've just got a baabaa black out blind and it does make it much darker than the roller one-last night was the first time to use it so perhaps that was the difference. Woke 3 times properly and was a bit restless one more but easy to settle in between. He is definitely cutting down the amount of night feeds though (only 2 last night) so will hopefully stop bothering to even wake up soon.

Amani · 25/07/2008 15:54

Afternoon all ...not been on for a while (well a couple of days but have so many postings to catch up with)....Went to Drayton Manor yesterday and can't believe that although my DD1 is only 2.7yrs she was raring to go on the rides for older children. Took her to Thomas Land and she was so in awe and actually believed she was on the island of Sodar..!

BT - Medication has eased some of the tiredness/carpel tunnel syndrome but not completely. The receptionist at my GP surgery called me today and said the GP would like to talk to me about the results of the blood test taken on Mond - so got appointment for next week...

Hey skid - tried a bit of mashed up pasta with DD2 but she just spat it out.

What sort of breakfast is everyone giving thier LO? I remember a conversation about introduction 'normal' cereals (i.e rice krispies, weetabix) at this stage...??

Amani · 25/07/2008 15:56

beckle - thanks for asking feel a little better as mentioned below..

claireybee · 25/07/2008 16:11

amani see here

Amani · 25/07/2008 16:26

cheers CB - shinyshoes sounds exactly like me.....

claireybee · 25/07/2008 16:31

Yeah I did wonder if you had an alter ego for a minute the

Amani · 25/07/2008 16:41

defo not me...!!

Wizzska · 25/07/2008 20:13

Clairey - I know, that's exactly what I said to myself before I did it. The trouble is you don't know how long they'll cry for until you start. That's why it's not for everyone.

Poor you MM.

Louise, we had a bad night on Tuesday, thought it was teh heat but turns out he had 2 teeth the next day. He slept 6.30 til 6.30 without a peep from him last night.

OP posts:
Jewelsandgems · 25/07/2008 20:45

Hi all!

DD has started sitting up on her own! I was sat with her, had one leg either side of her and then noticed she was not falling or anything, and she was sat on her own for a good 30 seconds or so! Then she fell to one side. But, anyway, I was really proud of her.

And she slept til 6 this morning and was delightful all day. Saying that, we usually put her down for a nap 1600-1700 and today, and the past few days, she has not been sleeping. Not crying, but yelling occasionally and chattering to herself. I went in today and picked her up and she started sucking on my chin and making giggling noises. It took ALL my resolve not to cover her in kisses and instead pop her back in her cot. Being a parent is hard!

Have not tried the food with little bits in yet but so far she eats everything and anything. She even eat alittle bit of boots receipt today and her favourite things are veg, carrots, apple, blueberry and other fruity stuff. But, I do think she will spit the bits out at first - will have to try it.

suey2 · 25/07/2008 20:58

good god mm! You poor poor thing.

Louise my dd sleeps on a different floor and I can still hear her even with earplugs in and the monitor on mute. (dh)

Just had a similar experience to you guys re quiet time. Dd was screaming and when I went inshe was standing up in her grobag crying. I played with her for a bit then read her a story. Worked a treat!

BouncingTurtle · 25/07/2008 20:59

Evening all!

Very hot here too, 27 degs in the nursery
Poor ds is down to a pyjama top, nappy and nothing else and we have windows in his room, across the landing and a big vertical fan in his room in an effort to keep him cool! He went to bed at 6pm, today as he was totally knackered - didn't sleep much this afternoon. Have already been up once, at around 8.30 to feed him.

Breakfast - he normally has either Boots Organic Fruit & muesli, or C&G Apple & Blueberry cereal, or Hipps Organic porridge, half a banana, and some of my toast and butter. Sometimes he'll have toast and butter followed by a yogurt.
Once I've run out of all the baby cereals I'll be moving him onto normal porridge, weetabix and shredded wheat. You just need to watch the salt content.
