Sorry I mean the windows are open!

suey2 · 25/07/2008 21:12

oops I forgot! Loucee my c section scar is barely visible now. You may find it is tidied if you have another.

Same here bt. Nappy and grobag at 28 degrees

hotchoc · 26/07/2008 09:26

Hope you don't mind me joining you, dd a dec 07 babe and i wondered how you are all getting on at night. my dd is still waking twice a night and i am breastfeeding her in the night. she is doing pretty well with solids but not eating massive amounts. i feel she does not really sleep more than 3 hours ever. she naps morning and afternoon but not for long. do you think she could be over tired? any comments welcome because i am so tired now that i would love a 4 hour sleep at least some time. thanks so much for reading!! hotchoc x

hotchoc · 26/07/2008 09:31

Just read more down this thread, phew i'm not the only one having bed problems. xx

buzzybee · 26/07/2008 10:10

DD still has her cough but it is definitely on the mend. Went to the doc on Tue and she said no ABs necessary unless it persists. But she cancelled the Prevenar vaccine (pneumococcal meningitis - new to NZ tis year) - so we'll try again for that later. Actually am hoping it will work out well as she appears to be coming right again just in time for our holiday in Queensland (Oz tropics) in a week's time

Bit disgusting though - she hacks away, obviously brings up phlegm, then swallows it ugh. I think she's better in her new room as its easier to heat at night (no 28 degrees here - more like 6!)

hotchoc - others here much better qualified to offer advice than me. I've been blessed with a very compliant baby who loves to sleep.

Jewels - DD still doing the wobbly sitting here too. As soon as she tries to reach for anything she topples. Kind of rolls but only when she really wants to and it takes a lot of effort. Definitely a social rather than physical baby.

Gosh I went a bought a full first aid kit for the childcare centre we are starting and it cost over $500 (GBP200)!!!

BouncingTurtle · 26/07/2008 10:18

Jewels/BB - they soon learn quite quickly to get themselves back upright. Ds dives onto his front but can't sit up again, but a friend's baby who is 3 weeks older has figured out how to get himself sat up from lying down!

Hi Hotchoc - good to see you again! No advice here as I have the same problem!

After my last post, Ds slept through til just after midnight, he woke up once before morning, then at around 5.30am - I changed his nappy at this point, and brought him into bed with us an d he was asleep until nearly 7am which for him was very good!

Just had the most amazing news, my friends who have been trying for a baby for nearly 2 years have rung me to tell me they are expecting! The strange thing is they visited us for the weekend a couple of weeks back and she seemed curiously content, and kept making comments about practicing when playing with ds, and I was on the verge of asking her if she was pg but thought I'd better not!
I am so pleased for them as they will be fabulous parents. I've told her to join Mumsnet of course

claraquitetirednow · 26/07/2008 15:23

Hi everyone - can't write for long as we're nicking someone elses wireless broadband so it's a bit cheeky but until we get the internet installed (inshallah!) this is as good as it gets.

I have had a quick skim of the messages and wish I could reply to them all as there are so many interesting topics being discussed like food and cs scars etc but I don't really have time (this is also a VERY slow connection so not sure how much I can write before it crashes...)...

To sum up: we had a TOTAL nightmare journey here. Plane left Heathrow ok on Saturday evening and we had fed dd2 so gave her her milk, put her in the bassinet and all was well, as she slept away happily and we thought right feed dd2, she'll go to sleep and we can all get a bit of shut-eye. Ha bloody ha!!!. They kept the lights on in the main cabins until about 9.30pm; we were in Club class but right at the back so the lights were shining directly on us and therefore dd2 didn't go to sleep for ages. Just as she went down (eventually), dd1 woke up and obviously thought it was morning! Oh joy! I took over with her and had accepted that I would not get any sleep on the flight but would get some when we arrived when....we were turned back just as we were about to arrive at Islamabad because of a thunderstorm and diverted to....Dubai!!

To cut a long story short we then had about 12 hours of HELL with queues to get everywhere, no information from any BA staff at all, no help with the children, stuck in a hotel room in the middle of downtown Dubai with no local currency, no food until lunchtime, no drinks etc....And on and on. Oh and still no sleep and the children had slept as we queued and now thought it was playtime!

We eventually got about 1.5hours each, then we had to get ready to go BACK to the airport to catch a flight at 10.30pm which lasted three hours - so you can guess how much sleep we got on that (err, about 1.5 hours for me).

So we eventually arrived in Islamabad in the early hours of Monday morning, more tired than I have ever been in my life - and that includes having a newborn. Horrendous....

ANYWAY! First impressions of Pakistan are pretty positive, especially Islamabad which is a very modern, clean and green city. But the security is terrifying, we have to go through so many vehicle checks and chicanes and past men with machine guns every day. However the compound is incredible, really great facilities, pools and a club that has a great restaurant and tennis courts, a gym, squash court, a play area for the children, soft play etc etc. Unfortunately the heat is ruining everything - it has been hitting 40+ degrees most days and is too hot to go out, so dd1 in particular is getting very bored (our heavy baggage won't be with us for a while, hopefully not too long, but we're borrowing a dvd player soon which will help!).

Anyway I have met a few mums with similar aged children and everyone seems very friendly but lots and lots of families are away during the summer so I think things will start to get a lot easier in September when people come back, dd1 will start nursery and the weather will cool a bit. Oh and we have a nany/cleaner starting the week after next plus a man coming in a couple of times a week to iron, so I really can't complain! (slap me if I do because I will but there are some fantastic things about this place even if there are some scary/restrictive things as well).

We don't have a car yet so things like shopping are hard, we have had to rely on other people but going out with the two dd's in this heat is really difficult. However it will all fall into place in the next few weeks.

Oh. I have been ill for the last couple of days to add to it all, not sure what. Have had a chest infection and last night was feverish but feel a lot better today. Living between aircon and the heat doesn't help!

Right well that lot will probably crash the computer so I had better try posting...hope you and your LO's are well and hopefully I will be able to come back on regularly soon....

claraquitetirednow · 26/07/2008 15:25

Sorry in the part about children sleeping on the plane it should be the other way round, dd2 woke up just as dd1 went to sleep....

Amani · 26/07/2008 16:47

Gosh clara - what a nightmare journey - at least you are there and can catch up on some sleep (fingers crossed). How are the children finding the change? Hope you all settle in pretty quickly.

BouncingTurtle · 26/07/2008 18:05

Claraq - lovely to hear from you, sorry about your nightmare journey, poor you and DH, at least it's behind you now - and it'll be funny when you look back... in about 20 years!
When does DH start his new job, I presume they are giving him time to settle in and find his way around?
It's hitting 30 deg here, and it's horrible, so I don't envy your 40+ deg!

Hope everyone else is enjoying the sunshine!
Went to a lovely Italian (in Fatfield, near Washington, Skid!) and sat on the upstairs terrace having lunch with a friend who haven't seen for ages! She was making a huge fuss over Daniel, which was nice! Plus she has countersigned his passport application for me which is good (she's a civil servant).

buzzybee · 26/07/2008 23:18

Oh gosh clara you poor thing! Having flown back and forward from NZ a few times I completely understand! But only once with a young baby and the main issue there was going thru LA 15 mths post 9/11 (yes I remember the queues...). The place where you're living sounds great though and as soon as it cools down a bit...
My sister and family lived in Dubai until recently (just moved to Singapore) and they came back to NZ for 6 weeks in the summer - funny thing is that Dubai summer is NZ winter so they left 40+ degrees for about 14 degrees (they went to Auckland) which most people would hardly select as an ideal temp but I guess by comparison it seemed quite nice!

Have just tried having a shower with DD and it went quite well! Never tried with DD1 until she was about 2 yo and she's never really taken to it so this time aim to get DD2 to be a bit more flexible as not every place has a bath after all. She didn't seem to mind the spray in her face and it didn't feel too precarious either, I was worried I might feel like I was going to drop her.

suey2 · 27/07/2008 17:18

gosh clara what a nightmare! I hope everything is ok now- sounds fantastic now you are there

Louise76 · 27/07/2008 20:58

Hello all.

Hope you all had lovely weekends.

It didn't work putting dd in the downstairs bedroom. She kept herself awake looking around and we eventually put her in her own room. Since Tue she has been a nightmare to settle but tonight was fine. She was asleep by 7.15pm but she's had 2 doses of calpol today.

I think its a combination of the heat, teething and being able to turn herself over and move around in her cot that is making her unsettled.

Welcome hotchoc! I hope you get more sleep soon. I feel bad moaning about dd as she is usually a brilliant sleeper but they all have their moments!

Clara - what a nightmare! Hope you all settle in soon. It will be an amazing experience for your dds.

loucee · 27/07/2008 23:22

wow Clara what a journey, I hope things settle down and cant wait to hear your next installment.

For those replying about c-section scars, thnaks for the info, it was Kelbel asking about them so hope you can read the replies to honey!

mixedmama · 28/07/2008 10:03

Hi everyone...

DS2 seems to be better and we have our last dose of treatment tomorrow night and are off on holiday on Thurs. Went and done the shopping for DSs - nappies etc and have filled one whole suitcase with formula, nappies wipes etc. I know they have nappies in Turkey but our house is on an island so they have deliveries from the mainland and am paranoid about things running out.

Claraq - sounds awful and amazing at the same time.... hope you all settle soon

skidaddle · 28/07/2008 14:42

hello clara feel like you'll hardly be able to hear us from so far away! OMG the flight sounds horrendous but hope you're recovered and starting to settle in. The compound sounds amazing and I hope the heat isn't getting you down too much. How is your DD1 with all the change? Maybe it doesn't feel too wierd for her as the important things in her life (i.e. you, your DH and DD2) haven't changed

MM - Poor you and your DS2 - how awful - glad he is feeling better. When are you off to Turkey?

jewels - congrats to your DD! They look so cute sitting up, don't they (and lying, and standing, and in any other position)?

What a fantastic weekend - can't complain about the summer now, oh how I love the sun . We even had a proper night out on Friday, sat outside a trendy bar drinking beer until 2am - completely unheard of in the (post-baby) skidaddle household - fantastic. And then by some divine miracle, the DCs didn't wake up on saturday morning until 10am!!! so we got a lovely lie-in.

Going down to Southampton tomorrow - first time leaving DS - am dreading dreading dreading it but no point dwelling, just have to get on with it

BouncingTurtle · 28/07/2008 14:47

Hi everyone, hope you are well!

MM - don't blame you for taking your own supplies, at least you know you'll be sorted and once you've used up all the nappies and formula you'll have room in your case for lots of cheap lovely tat souvenirs

Took ds swimming this morning, but been feeling pretty rough. Got cross with ds as after he had his nap I fed him and he procede to whinge and whinge, took him upstairs along with his play nest and toys so I could have a lie down and he just whined constantly. Lay him down with me as he seemed sleepy and tried to feed him, he'd suck for a few seconds, look sleepy then start whining again. Got so cross with him and put him in his cot with some toys, he was fine for a bit then started whinging again, so brought him downstairs, played with him for a bit and he is now playing in his play nest again and watching cbeebies (bad mummy!).

Amani · 28/07/2008 16:08

Skid - sounds like you had a lovely night, I calssify 'staying up late' as time beyond 9:30pm . No matter how late I put DD2 to sleep she always wakes up at 7am ...

Not enjoying this heat - DD2 eczema has returned and I suspect it's because of the warm weather.

Can't remember if I mentioned but DD1 taken to biting DD2. She starts off giving her lots of kisses and then ends it with a big bite.....now am nervous to leave the two together....

skidaddle · 28/07/2008 16:28

amani - oh no just when the excema was getting better as well - I'm sure the hot weather has a lot to do with it

My DD went through a phase of biting DS as well - we used to put her outside the room and ignore her every time she did it and she eventually stopped - was horrid though. I think we are in for a 2nd phase of jealousy starting around now - now that the younger sibling can fight back a bit the older one starts getting very territorial - i can definitely see my DD starting to get bad again and am bracing myself!

bouncing - oh I hate the whining (gets much worse when they are toddlers) - CBeebies is definitely a good idea if only to drown out the noise!

loucee · 28/07/2008 22:36

Skid your night out sounds fantastic, I would love to sit outside drinking beer til 2am!!

Amani yes, my DD is also trying to bite DS (She's never been a biter but sort of pushes her teeth against his hand then dribbles on him), I really pulled her up on it tonight but I hope it stops soon.

BouncingTurtle · 29/07/2008 08:00

Morning! It's wet and miserable here on Teesside! But it is supposed to be sunny here tomorrow [hopeful emoticon]

Had a bad night with ds - he woke at 10pm and Midnight, but then woke at 2am and cried when I put him in his cot after his feed, offered him more boob, then changed his nappy and by this time he was wide awake shouting at the top of his voice
I did find myself losing my temper with him, and ended up putting him in his cot (we tried putting him between us but he just cried even after I fed him again), eventually he did fall asleep again. He then woke up again at 4.30, but I fed him and put him in bed with us again and he stayed asleep until 6.30.
I hope we don't get a repeat performance tonight...

claireybee · 29/07/2008 10:21

Clara great to hear your news Sorry the flight was so awful and the heat is hard to deal with at the moment, sure you'll acclimatise soon.

DS has been awful in the heat we've been having, unsettled and grumpy etc. Am really dreading going to Botswana with him now as it will be far hotter there but at least there is aircon in the house there etc.

Amani I also class staying up late as past 9.30

Skid very of your night out, who looked after the dc for you? Aha I've got it-it wasn't such a miracle they slept late in the morning because they were with you and you were sneaking them beer all evening

Wizz I asked dh if he thought we should try CC and he said "Why would you do that, we spent the first 5 months trying to get him to stop screaming so why would you want to leave him to it now? If we were going to do it we should have done it earlier when he was screaming anyway". So that's a no-no for now anyway. I think I am hoping that when when we move and he is in his own room he will miraculously start sleeping better . Otherwise I'll will just make dh start settling him more so I can rest!

Hotchoc no advice from me-only up twice in the night sounds like heaven to me Sympathies though...

DD hasn't bitten ds yet but she pushes him over a lot. He is almost as big as her now though so will get his revenge soon. She has really entered the terrible twos now-keeps having tantrums and I'm having to tell her off constantly. Am trying to use the tips people on here suggested before (eg more positive things than negative)but it can be hard when she does one naughty thing after another all day long!

Amani · 29/07/2008 15:29

Good to know I am not the only one with a rebellious toddler.

BT - sorry to hear you had a bad night..fingers crossed for a better on tonight.

Anyone else get really bad rain last night? We ended up with a mini flood in our porch area and a crisis for DD2 as our SKY went off and no Nick Jr...(I don't usually let her watch telly late, but since we went to Thomas Land am letting her watch the programme when it is on)...

becklespeckle · 29/07/2008 16:06

Hi all, hope you have all had a good weekend! Bit of an odd one here as DH came out in an itchy rash on Thursday night, he phoned NHS direct (although I had already googled rashes and suspected it was hives) who told him to go to hospital as his throat was scratchy - they were worried about anaphilaxis (sp?) - so off he went, at 1.30 am, had to get his brother out of bed to take him! Anyway, turns out it was hives and so he was told to take anti-histamines, only trouble is they made him so drowsy he slept all weekend! He believed the culprit was the beautiful bush in the front garden so he cut it out last night , in revenge the bush gave him hives again...

DD is now up on her knees and rocking, she has tried a couple of times to move her legs to crawl but she digs he toes into the carpet and ends up tipping onto her face! She's good enough at getting where she wants with just rolling so in no hurry for her to actually crawl. She is being a bit of a moo with her food at the moment though, she will not eat anything lumpy off of a spoon, it has to be pureed. She will, however, happily eat chunks of food (crumpets, cheese, toast, various veg, yorkshire puds etc) which I put on her highchair tray and will even let me put chunks in her mouth.

Jewels, those Crawlers do look good don't they? The mat is a Lamaze Spin and Explore Garden, it was fab for tummy time when DD was small. She is too big for it now though and rolls off the spinner - not good. She still likes the mat but tends to wrap herself up in it like a little sauage roll! I got mine off ebay. Well done to your DD for sitting! 30 seconds is a good start, it only took Evie a few days to go from that to 5-10 mins, they get so much stronger every day its amazing!

Bouncing, glad Daniel has been sleeping better (apart from last night), long may it continue! Its hard when they are whingy isn't it? Perhaps his teeth are pusing or the heat is getting to him? There seems to be a lot of pressure in the air too. Congrats to your friends on their pregnancy too, I love to hear of new babies on their way! Did you manage to join the MN Facebook group? I am on it too although can't seem to find anyone on it other than Ambi! Ambi, I found you on the Facebook thingy but couldn't add you as a friend strangely?

Mixedmama, LOL at the vaseline! Poor DS2, hope he is feeling a bit better, I'm not surprised you have no energy! Hopefully you'll get a chance to re-charge whilst on your hols.

Fifi, DD is also too big for her bouncy chair so all her naps are now upstairs in her room (unless she has a mini one after tea and before milk). Still have it in the living room though, same with her playmat/gym which she doesn't use anymore.

Cazzy, hoorah for Evie starting to eat!!! Hope you have a fab time in Cornwall!

Amani, glad to hear you have been feeling better although sorry that DD2's excema has flared up again, hopefully it will calm down again as the heat drops. Bless DD1 actually thinking she was on Sodor! Not sure what to suggest about the biting, DS1 used to do it to DS2 too but eventually he grew out of it when he realised his brother got lots of attention when bitten and he got ignored. Was it you who asked what our babies where having for breakfast? DD likes Organix Apple and Raspberry and will tolerate C&G Creamed PorrigeHi all, hope you have all had a good weekend! They seem to have cleared now but we don't know what he reacted to so he could get it again. At the moment the scapegoat is the beautiful bush in the front garden so he is having it removed .

DD is now up on her knees and rocking, she has tried a couple of times to move her legs to crawl but she digs he toes into the carpet and ends up tipping onto her face! She's good enough at getting where she wants with just rolling so in no hurry for her to actually crawl. She is being a bit of a moo with her food at the moment though, she will not eat anything savoury prepared by me off a spoon! Perhaps I am not making it smooth enough and she doesn't like the lumps? I don't know. Quite frustrating though! She will, however, happily eat chunks of food (crumpets, cheese, toast, various veg, yorkshire puds etc) which I put on her highchair tray and will even let me put chunks in her mouth. Hoping its just a phase!

I got mine off ebay but I think your DD will probably be a bit too big for it too . I tried her on Weetabix but she wouldn't have it!

Hotchoc, hello! How are you? No advice on sleep, am one of the lucky ones as DD loves her sleep, she has around 10.5-11 hours at night and 3-4 hours in the daytime.

Buzzy, glad your cough is on the mend!

Clara, sounds like you had a nightmare journey but glad that the compound seems nice! It all sounds very fascinating and I hope you are all settling in well.

becklespeckle · 29/07/2008 16:07

not sure what happened to my message there, seems to be cut and pasted about a bit! Could it be a rather lively DD who is on my lap and has been grabbing the mouse???
