OP posts:

Hi all!

Hi Melly - sympathies ono the biting, I've been bitten as well, not nice!

Hoping some of you breastfeeders can offer me some advcie on a thread I have started here.

TIA

cazzybabs · 18/11/2008 20:20

I am still feeding and couldn't care less what people think..I am happy to whip out my boob anywhere...well not quite anywhere but I have feed most places.

I am 30

Arcadie · 18/11/2008 22:19

Very very at how many people are posting their ages now. I hang about with a bunch of people who are about 2-5 years younger than me and I have a very old (35!!) DH so I always feel old in comparison to them.

Bring on the boob in public. Sod the silences. It's what God made your mammaries for.

Not so much as a standing unaided from DD here so at all of your walkers. Although her NOT toddling allows me to kid myself that I still have an ickle baaaaby.

Arcadie · 18/11/2008 22:22

And BT... will think on about your BF overnight issue. Am I right in thinking that you'd rather not be feeding at all overnight. Or do you think DS still needs it? I'd go for a little bottle of water and see if that settles him so that he's hungrier during the day and doesn't need as much food over night... I'll re-read your post and think more though incase that's not an answer for your circumstances.

Arcadie · 18/11/2008 22:29

Aha... BT FWIW, I don't think 11 months is too young to self wean ( in my only 2 kids experience) but I do understand your reluctance to give up - it's the end of an era isn't it . What DD is on food wise / milk wise is:
Bottle at wake-up (hopefully 7 ish) and
bed (hopefully 7ish)

Solids at breakfast, lunch and evening meal with water from a cup. She WILL not drink milk during the day much to nursery's disgust. If I remember (and I'm not great at it) she'll have a drink of water and a little ricecake snack or 2 during the day and that's been enough to keep her going overnight for a while.

Feel for you that there is still loads of nighttime feeding as from what I remember of all the books I read first time round ( and not second time ) is that they shouldn't need nourishment overnight from about 6 months. But I'm aware that book and reality aren't always the same thing...

cazzybabs · 18/11/2008 23:01

Arcadie - is this your big long post?

BouncingTurtle · 19/11/2008 06:17

Cheers Arcadie!
He was a bit better last night, woke up at 11:30m, 1:45 and 4:30, then was up for the day at 5:30!

I would like to cut out most of the night feeds, I can cope with 1 or 2 but ideally would like to have none!

I think I'll try moo juice as well to see if he'll drink that at nursery.

buzzybee · 19/11/2008 08:39

Hi, still lurking but rarely posting...I just turned 39 last week. Sad to report spent the day in bed with a tummy bug caught from DD1

I love to see the progress of all our babies. Bea is the youngest on the list posted below so is 10.5 months. We will be on holiday over her birthday - don't think she'll be getting loads of pressies this year.

She started crawling 10 days ago and is now quite speedy and oh so proud of herself. She has such a cheeky grin when she's caught trying to get into something she shouldn't. Loads of shouting here too and definitely not words, just noise. She does have a few definite word/sounds though like "ne" (no) and "me" (mine or more). Oh and 8 teeth!

I've been very lucky with her sleeping but poor thing has had a persistent cough since she was 6 months old. I think it just recycles itself everytime she is exposed to a new virus - apparently babies average about 17 viruses in their first year!

We're just heading into summer here in NZ. Well Spring really and very unpredictable but have at least taken the winter duvet off the bed. Am hoping the cough will disappear as summer kicks in. She is also due for another follow-up kidney scan next week so we are crossing fingers the dilatation will have gone away.

claireyBANG · 19/11/2008 13:25

check out ds walking [proud]

I spent a couple of hours on here last night for lack of anything better to do and then went to bed and had 2 mumsnet dreams, definitely a sign not to come on before bed! Skid you were in one of them (don't get freaked out!!) can't remember much other than you wanted to go swimming in an outdoor pool and I thought you were a loon for it!

LOL Cazzy I'm the same, boobs out all over the place I couldn't post on that strangest place thread in the feeding topic because I don't really think of anywhere as strange, it is just wherever I have been when ds needed feeding.

BT glad last night was a bit better, mine was too-ds only woke twice! 11ish and 3.30. Then up at 6 but I passed him off to dh at that point.

I was surprised because he barely ate yesterday, stuff I tried to spoon him he thought it was funny to blow raspberries through or spit back out and finger foods got thrown around. He is the same today-I think he is taking the food is for fun thing a bit too seriously and just wants to play with it!

claireyBANG · 19/11/2008 13:43

Is that the right link??

skidaddle · 19/11/2008 14:34

clairey - it is the right link. It is brilliant - love the bouncing at the end!

Don't worry I'm not freaked out by your dream - I dream about you lot all the time

hey Buzzy - good to hear from you and that you're just going into summer - brings back memories of when we were all pg and we were all freezing our bums off while you basked in sunshine!

BT - no advice I'm afraid, just lots of sympathy. It does sounds like teething to me but of course you know if there's something else. FWIW Milo has just come through a phase like you describe and is now only waking once a night so hopefully time if nothing else will improve matters

wizz - sounds horrible, lots of get well soon wishes for all the family

cazzy - yes I get my boobs out everywhere too - just feel very self-conscious about it. had a tight top on today as I didn't think I'd see DS until tea time. Ended up feeding him in a cafe next to a table of old ladies, midriff completely exposed

BouncingTurtle · 19/11/2008 16:06

CLairey - ds eats like horse at nursery! I don't think he drinks enough fluids though, so left the bottle st nursery and asked them to offer him more water.

Louise76 · 19/11/2008 16:22

Hi ladies

Just been reading your posts.

Not been on for ages as things have been a bit stressful here - dh has been off work for 2 wks with shingles and dd got chickenpox last week so things have been a lot of fun in our house as you can imagine!!!

I was really worried when I realised that dd had chickenpox but she hasn't been too bad - the doctor reckoned it was better for her to have it at this age than when she was older and that's it over and done with as she can't get it again! It was horrible seeing all the spots but calomine lotion and calpol and calprofen have done the trick. the worst thing has been being stuck in the house. She is contagious until the spots crust over so I've only been able to take her for a walk.

Nice to see some of you back after a long time - fifi and amani - hope you are ok. Sounds like you've had a really hard time.

No walking here yet - dd likes to pull herself up on everything - coffee tables, sofas, toys, ,me - and will stand unaided of a few seconds.

Re food - DD had a really healthy appetite before having chickenpox but it's been a struggle to get her to eat much over the last week. I'm bottlefeeding though so maybe food is preferable to evil aptamil (guilty mum emoticon required!)

A friend of mine had a baby last week and has a dd who is just 17 months - it makes me shudder so I have lots of admiration for those of you who have or are planning small age gaps!!

Hope everyone's poorly lo's get better soon

PS I'm 32 but some days I feel (and probably look)about 92 - that's being a mum for you I guess

BouncingTurtle · 19/11/2008 19:34

Hi Louise!!

Your poor DD, sorry to hear she's had chicken pox!
She's probably better off just having her usual milk - after all it's a complete food in itself, so don't worry too much if she is not eating too much solids foods. It is still her main source of nourishment after all!
And your poor DH too! Have you been giving him lots of TLC!
Seems to be going around atm, there is a chicken pox alert at my nursery. Thankfully not in the baby rooms!

Wizzska · 19/11/2008 20:22

Hello everyone.

We had a good day today. I had a day off work so we all had a nice family day. DS seemed to be perking up a bit and had a big appetite this morning. DH also seemed better. I was feeling quite positive and hoped I'd have a day without having to clean vomit off stuff. Oh no. Poor ds has been sick twice since going to bed. Have just put him down for the 3rd time. He's in his summer grobag because we've no clean ones left. It's really getting me down now. I don't want him to lose any more weight and I just feel for the poor little soul. Will it ever end?

Sorry to go on.

~Someone should do a new thread soon. This one is filling up. I did the last one so it's up to somebody else to think of a thread title to mark their first birthdays.

Louise, poor you with dealing with chicken pox. Shingles is awful I hear.

OP posts:
claireyBANG · 19/11/2008 20:37

Hi Louise, sorry to hear dd has chickenpox and poor you having to nurse both dh and dd.

Same to you Wizz, it is horrible when they keep being sick isn't it? When dd was about 8 months old she got three consecutive tummy bugs and it really got me down-she didn't seem too poorly in herself luckily but I felt like I must be doing something really wrong for her to keep getting these bugs. Plus having to deal with sick, especially in the middle of the night, is not fun at all!
Best thing my gp said to me was even if she seemed really starving not to let her have more than 1.5 to 2 oz at a time or it would all come straight back up. He said to give only an oz or 2 and let that go down for at least 30mins before letting her have any more. It did really work for her although she screamed like crazy when the bottle was empty after only an oz!

Glad the link was the right one, when I clicked it to test it took me somewhere else but I think it just took me to the last page I'd been on in facebook.

Caz10 · 19/11/2008 20:46

Evening all!

I was about to start a new thread and then got all shy and at my crap title...I'm no good at these things!!

"oh what fun, now they are ONE" or something similar...?!

Anyway sorry to hear of sickness, bugs, etc - we are just out the end of a very nasty cold and that was bad enough...I know this isn't a huggy place, but I think we could all do with a wee virtual hug!

Wizzska · 19/11/2008 21:34

Yes, hug needed, thanks.
Don't be shy about your title, I can't see anything wrong with it.

Yes the cold bug is bad too. We've had them both in tandem. The d&v bug has trumped the snot and cough one though here.

Thanks for the tips Clairey. Am going to try that milk thing. I just want to get some calories in him but the milk makes his tummy worse. He's lost some weight and his little baby double chin is disappearing. I hate it.
