Hello Starlover - welcome to Feb mums even though we have strictly swapped and I ended up being a Jan Mum ! dd is almost 3 weeks (on Monday) but it was my due date yesterday which felt a bit strange. How's the sleepless nights going ??

starlover, just read your birth announcement - how's the feeding going ? Sounds like you are determined.

DD did not take to breastfeeding at all and I was too scared to risk her losing weight to try for a long time (birth weight only 4 lbs 9 oz) so have been doing a combination of expressed and formula. It seems to work well for us as she is putting on weight and at least I know how much she is taking. We have worried about her size since she my 20 week scan so am particularly paranoid about this aspect !

the feeding is still a struggle... people keep giving me so much conflicting advice, and i don't know what to do for the best. I really really really want him to bf, but at the end of the day if he won't do it then there isn't much I can do about it.
The day we came home from hospital he had a few goes at really sucking, and I was feeling so positive... but no such luck once we were home

I can understand your worries... you have a tiny girl to fatten up! My little whopper was fine even though he didn't feed at all the first 24hrs! Well done with carrying on the expressing though, it's getting me down a bit because my boobs are so sore!

hi there! i can graduate now into here as Sam arrived last Tuesday and is currently laid on the bed next to me taking in the world!

BF going well..he seems to have taken after his brother in that respect and he is feeding every 2-3 hours (he generally wakes for feeds or i wake him as the doctor advised us to do that due to his jaundice). He slept for over 3 hours in one go last night...except I didn't as he sweaked after 2 hours so i woke up thinking he wanted to feed..he went back to sleep..i didn't! I could of had 3 WHOLE HOURS sleep in one go! GRRR!

Hi Futurity and congratulations !! Glad the BF is going well for you (and its not a curse of the Feb babies !). Hope things are sorting out for you Starlover.

We had to feed religiously at least every 3 hours in the beginning which was hard work. We are now on demand feeding which still often means less than 3 hours although occasionly she goes to 4 hours ! I actually managed to get a good night sleep last night but only cos I had a horrid stomach bug which meant I had been up all Friday night so DH slept in another room with dd and saw to her all night - bless him. Mind you, I think it was only cos he didn't want to catch it !!

Look forward to even more recruits soon !

ooh well I feel quite lucky, because Linus sleeps nearly all night!
He generally wakes up for a feed at around 12/1 and then again at 6ish.

Still not b/fing but I did get him to latch on a couple of times today, and he forgot himself and had a quick suck! I think now my milk has come in he doesn't get cross so quickly because he can taste that there is milk there... he is just confused because it doesn't feel like his bottle!

HE DID IT!!!!!!!

He actually fed this morning... from the BOOB!!!!
It wasn't a proper feed... just about a minute or so of sucking... but he did it! He sucked!

It's amazing. My boobs are sore from expressing all the time, and it hurt when he was sucking on it, but it was SO worth it!

Even though I am not tslking to either of you for having such good sleepers - I only got 3 hours sleep last night and that wasn't all in a row !! She has been awake all day too so can't even do what the books say and sleep in the day !!

I obsess about sleep! Think I get 4-5 hours if i am lucky ...not in one go either..in 2 hour batches. As DH is still of work am able to have a nap in the day as he looks after DS1 but that will all change next week when he goes back to work...eek!

Actually DD went 4 1/2 hours twice last night - fed at 11 then at 3.30 and then at 8. Of course, I was awake from about 2 expecting her to want feeding and then couldn't get back to sleep when she went down cos she was making all sorts of noises (she is a very noisy baby !!). But, all in all must have managed SIX hours sleep last night - feel wonderful today !!

Even if she doens't do it every night it does at least mean there is light at the end of the tunnel !

Am speaking to you both again now !!

Sorry to barge in on your thread everyone, congratulations to you all! Starlover, I read the birth announcement thread and was so for you re the breastfeeding - so I was thrilled to read that you managed a successful feed! And even if you continue to struggle (sorry not meaning to be a pessimist), at least you can say "well he did it once, he'll do it again!"

Sorry - emotional pregnant woman waffle....

thanks miaou... he's been feeding like a trooper! No bottles since yesterday afternoon!
He does want feeding more often it seems, and is a little less settled.. but i'm sure that'll sort itself out.

well hello found the post natel site its me jolly4 , weell dont you just forget how tiring it is with a new born but we do it and it is worth it , i am bf luckily katy and i are doing well but at first it was evry 2 hours at nite but 3 throu the day i think she is gettin slowly adjusted as she fed at 6 and it is now 9.30 and not stirred yet absolutely feel like a zombie but this too will pass and enjoying evry minute the sleepless nites are worth it well will keep you posted

well all must be really tired or really busy well both prob just grabbed 5 mins while katy in her chair if she not on the breast she is normally asleep but she having a little wake period bf goin well and about 2 too 3 hours in nite but daytime she goes on average 4 too 5 hours she is nocturnal bless her hopefully things will change in a couple of weeks hope your all well be in touch x

Welcome to the Feb 05 postnatal board Jolly4 - have had a bit of a weekend of it with dh down with a nasty stomach bug that I had last weekend so meant I was on sole baby duty all weekend - apart from today, when I went out and got my hair cut and coloured - I had planned to do this whilst on maternity leave before dd arrived but as she came early I didn't get the chance.

Hopefully the others will find their way here soon !

hi everybody, I was supposed to be a Jan mum but little Felipe wanted to be born in February! We are now 2 1/2 weeks old! I feel sad but I could not get Felipe to latch on my breast (no nipples) and I got very depressed as it seemed so natural and easy... But I did expressed at the begining every three hours, but it is so exhausting to feed him, express, sterilize, change etc.,.. that I have decided to combine with formula... So I am expressing every 6 hours, and will give him 1 formula feed and 4 expressed milk feeds... hopefully I can manage this more easily and can go out, as I have been between four walls since coming from hospital... Nice to meeting everybody and will keep reading your postings

Hi Princesitalinda and welcome ! You're not alone with the whole unable to bf.... I have been mixed feeding for 4 weeks now and dd doesn't seem to be suffering too much - she was v. low birth weight (4 lb 9 oz) and is now up to 6 lb 1 oz so I try to tell myself something must be working ! it doesn't stop you feeling guilty though for not being able to bf.

just wondered hazelnut if you were offered support for your bf as i had a phonecall today about how my bf was going i personally am having no probs which i hate too say cos i know a few mums are havin probs i think due too katys big wieght that she has made it easier for me i dont know how true this is but they say that low wieght babies sometimes have a not so strong sucking reflex whatever as long as babe is thriving i am tryin too keep katy well topped up this eve hoping for at least 3 too 4 hours unbroken sleep be in touch soon just off too rescue dh as katy bit hungrey again !!!!!!!!!!
