hi everyone just a quick hello and to introduce myself,i am a 25 yo SAHM to 2 wonderful dd's, dd1 iscalled Nicole, 16 months old and very bright but cheeky too!! and the newest addition is baby olivia, born on 27th feb, so only 5 days old at the mo, but has been pretty good so far, only one night with very little sleep so fingers crossed.
Breastfeeding is going quite well this time, last time i never really got it sussed properly till dd was about 4 months old, but ended up feeding till she self weaned at nine months (when i was 3 months pg, prob due to changes in milk and hormones.
Had a very traumatic labour, tbh i still don't think i have recovered emotionally, MW is getting my notes so we can discuss it in detail, just glad am never going to have to go through it again, as we don't plan any more kids.
looking forward to chatting with all of you, hope everyone is feeling well,
jody

re the breathing again... it isn't just snuffles... he really struggles to breathe sometimes. It is now interfering with his feeding and sleeping. He can't have a proper feed because he can't breathe so he keeps having to stop and start
The GP listened to his chest and said that was clear, so it may be an obstruction in his throat, or something irritating it and making it swell.

It sounds awful

jolly4 · 04/03/2005 16:53

well i would take him back too docters starlover dont worry yourself xxxxxxxx

Hello, I am jumping into this thread as Niklas arrived almost 3 weeks early (born 23rd Feb was due on 12th March).
Niklas does very well at night, sleeps for 3.5 to 4 hours at a time so I am quite happy! Day times seem to have less of a pattern though.

I can't work out what his crying means althoug he doesn't cry that much, when he does I don't know if its stomach cramps, hungry, or just needs holding. He sleeps with us in bed at the moment as the matress for his cot didn't arrive in time! He loves it but I'm worried it may give us problems to get him into the cot. Anyway I love it as well!

bunjies · 05/03/2005 20:01

Hi All

Sasha will be 3 weeks tomorrow and also suffers with the horrible choking breathing thing. I did ask the health visitor about when he came last week but he seemed very unconcerned and didn't even ask to hear her. However it doesn't appear to be affecting her feeding but I'm still wondering whether I ought to take her to the children's hospital as I don't trust the docs ever since they failed to spot severe jaundice in my dd1.

Sleeping and feeding are still erratic and my sleep deprivation has reached an all time high! Went to bed at 8.30pm last night but still only managed to get 6.5 hours sleep broken into 3 periods. Ended up waking up with her at 5.30am and staying up until dp took over at 7am and allowed me an extra hours sleep . Decided to start expressing today so that dp can give a bottle at about 10/11pm and I can get a bit more sleep.

jolly4 · 05/03/2005 21:33

hi bunjies , i know the feeling too well i think you learn too work on overdrive katy was 3weeks on thursday an still unpredictable normallywakes every 3 too 4 hours at nite still bf most nites let her fall asleep in bed it is easier good luck x

Leogaela · 06/03/2005 09:13

I am quite happy that Niklas is sleeping 3 to 4 hours a night. I though it would be much worse, my sister's ds would only sleep an hour at a time.
Not feeling too bad, but maybe I am still on happy hormones (ds is 11 days old).

Bunjies, maybe you are worrying about nothing, but if a mother worries about her baby then its worth getting it checked up properly. Hope all is OK.

starlover · 06/03/2005 21:51

bunjies... my midwife was unconcerned at first, until she visited next and he was really bad and she could see that it wasn't just wind!
My HV also appears unconcerned... just told me to take him to the GP if I was worried... but the HV at the baby cafe I went to last week seemed a lot more worried than mine!

I have looked after quite a few newborns in my time, and have never heard one make noises like this, so I don't think it is "normal"...

As I have mentioned before, we are off to the doctors for the third time on Tuesday and are going to push for a referral to a paediatrician...

jolly4 · 07/03/2005 11:35

Hello, can I join you? Ds was born on 13th Feb, not due till 24th March but he is doing ok - sleeps most of the time still. Having a bit of a struggle with bf'ing but he is starting to put on some weight.

I also have a dd who will be 3 in May. She thinks her little brother is great but she is quite clingy and whingy with me.

Hi to all the new people!!!

Sana.... as far as I know it is perfectly normal for a baby to bring up a bit of a feed, even if it happens at every feed. You should only really be worried if he is bringing up ALL of his feed and/or projectile vomiting...
Is he putting on weight normally? If you're worried bring it up with your midwife/health visitor!

Tipex... we got lucky! We were asked if we minded being seen by a student doctor, so said that was fine. He was so LOVELY! asked lots of questions, was very interested and obviously keen to make a diagnosis... not just dismissive like the GP is! After we spoke to him we went in to see the GP while the student relayed what he had discovered and we have ended up with a referral to the paediatrician!
Just have to wait now for them to contact us, which hopefully shouldn't be too long. We actually took a recording of Linus breathing and made them listen to it, which I think made them take us a bit more seriously... they both said it sounded like some kind of obstruction in the upper airway!

Saw the osteopath again today as well. It has helped a little, he has stopped hiccuping as much, and is definitely more settled, but it hasn't helped with the breathing (which it won't if it's an obstruction!).... so doing ok all round I think!

Angeliz · 08/03/2005 22:24

Hello to all new arrivals

You're all gonna hate me for this but, would you let a baby sleep as long as it wanted at night??
(she's 2 weeks old today)

Amelia, (who is being bottlefed), has a last one around 11 and then isn't waking till 3-4 am. The midwife told me not to leave her longer than 4 hours but she's feeding every 2 hours all day really, she just seems to go longer at night.
I had to wake her last night for a feed but part of me thinks that it's daft to wake her when she's obviously not starving for it.

TOUCH WOOD again and she'll probably get me now and be up all night!

Angeliz · 08/03/2005 22:34

Bet i've just jinxed myself now

Nik72 · 09/03/2005 01:25

Hurrah, on to the post natal thread at last! Am typing one handed, my beautiful daughter in my arms. she's a bit fractious & won't go down so coul be in for a long night...At least may give me time for birth announcement.

Angeliz, I often leave her longer than the 4 hours as she almost always will want fed between 4& 5 hours. my m/w says wake her if heading for 5-6 hours post feed. you get so much conflicting advice with babies don't you? Hospital was awful & i came out so underconfident with feeding, was lucky to be rescued by fab community midwife.

How much sleep are people getting, I only seem to be able to get it during the day but it is early days. am worried i'll run out of steam though - am running on adrenaline & excitement of being a mummy at last.

Angeliz · 09/03/2005 10:35

Thanks Nik, just found your birth story
Well done+++++++++++++++++

Amelia seemed convinced that 4 a.m was time to get up today and was having no bribes or negotiations so am feeling all fuzzy but in a good way! (Typing with one hand too!!)

Hazellnut · 09/03/2005 11:27

Hi all - and welcome to the new people !

Sleeping for me is still a bit erratic but don't think I have it too bad - DD had got into a habit of going 4 + hours but then in the last week went back to 3 hourly which was a pain but last night she had a huge huge feed at 8 and then again at about 11.30 and then slept till 5... of course, I didn't as I kept waking up to check she was ok after going so long !! So think her sleeplessness was a need for more food but for one so small she is turning into a monster eater !! Shouldn't complain as have worried about her not growing for the last 6 months (whilst inside me !) so guess she is just making up for lost time. Have her 6 week check this afternoon so looking forward to seeing how much she weighs in at !

Hazellnut · 09/03/2005 11:32

Starlover - did the osteo help get rid of hiccups ? DD gets them a lot and they make her bring up some feed even if a while after she has fed and they seem to distress her. The HV says they are nothing to worry about but it would be nice to stop them if there's a way !

Hope the other breathing probs sort out soon.
