October '04 babies - anyone fancy a kip?!!

beansprout · 24/01/2005 10:48

I certainly do. Bean is becoming more and more unsettled in the night as the weeks go by and it is taking its toll. Florence, you have my utmost admiration for still being alive, let alone managing a trip to NZ!! Hope its going well.

Bean is 3 months tomorrow, and people are already asking me if I am going to start weaning him soon? I would like to keep bf until he is 6 months, but how do I know if he needs to start sooner? Or will I know that is a stupid question when I have a permanently hungry baby on my hands?!!
What is everyone else planning to do?

Btw, am reading a marvellous, marvellous book called "What Mothers Do (especially when it looks like nothing)" by Naomi Stadlen. It talks about what a shock it all is, what we provide for a our babies and crucially, what I find missing from so many other books, how we actually feel - exhausted, sometimes angry towards db, unsure of ourselves etc etc. It does not tell me what I "should" be doing - hurrah!!! Cannot recommend it highly enough. Is doing me the world of good and we like that.

Sorry one of the south east mob here
Biglips I certainly value your input especially on all things deaf!
Well interest in solids seems to be a oneoff. But he did only wake once last night.
Rickman hope things are getting easier, do think about coming to a meetup, I don't think we are actually going into London, do you have a car? I know you are thinking of going on the Godstone farm meet up and that is really near me, what i'm getting at in a round about way is it'll probably be driveable, i wouldn't be getting on a train with my 3.

geogteach · 05/04/2005 19:21

Dockett meant to say I too tend to feed in the night, just in case he needs it! Have started sitting in a chair to do it though so its not just a chance to come in mummies bed.
Hope those of you back at work are going ok

Toots · 05/04/2005 19:58

Oh my golly goodness - that was even more exhausting than looking after two children. Glad I can drop the girls off and slouch back home to work in my pjs most of the time. I don't even actually do it, but it's the principle of being able to that's important to me. It was a brilliant day and has given me lots to think about, but not right now zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Biglips are you feeling better now? I hope so. You know, some of us were posting on the expecting thread when the babies were about three cells old, so we do go back a long way As to your little girl's milk, my dd is having 4 bottles a day now, and has started something at lunch and tea just in the last few days. Maybe it's not hunger that's waking your baby? Do hope she settles down again soon.

Bibi - how was day 2, better?

May 2nd sounds popular so far - any more? Huppa do you mean to say you aren't coming from Germany? What a lightweight Rickman - I'm inbetween Bromley and Crystal Palace. CAT me if you'd like more details.

huppa · 05/04/2005 20:23

Toots- sorry to say - no I won´t. Mind you I used to live in Croydon, so I get a bit nostalgic when I hear you lot on about meet ups.
Glad the day went well - hope you have a relaxing evening planned.
Docket -hope your ds is feeling better. Ds was ill a few weeks back and spent about 3 days feeding every 2 hours, but then it calmed down again.
Biglips - sure dd will love her new room. Has your mum got any plans to look for a place of her own?
Rickman -really sorry to hear about your friends son.

I´m very impressed to hear about everyones rolling babies. Ds can roll, but doesn´t seem to bother much. Mind you dd has decided it´s quite good fun to try and roll him - caught her today trying to roll him under a cupboard - I´d only turned my back for 30 seconds. Makes me wonder if I ever did similar things to my younger brother .

biglips · 06/04/2005 09:58

im from Liverpool so its millions miles away from south....

mum finished her relationship with her fella as he was getting nasty with her (but i think they never had a solid relationship before theyawent but mum chanced it all - big mistake!) so she is staying here to sort out her unfinished house in france (she bought it as a shell house and did it all up).

im gonna take baba to health centre and get her weighed today as last time she was weighed when she was 4 months old and she was 17lbs 3oz!! i cant wait for her to carry me

have any of yous got the Child trust funds yet?

About the weaning side of it, im using 5 teaspoons of powder foods (once i finished with them she is gonna have real foods) and she have her brekkie then a 6oz milk, then tea then 6 oz milk again and pudding with 6 oz milk again and in all between she have a bottles of 6-7oz (she have altogether 7 bottles of them!!) but shes a hungry baba. For the past nearly month she been waking up so i thought ill top up her milk more from 5 to 7oz.. she must;ve of done a growing spurt again that i didnt know so for the past 2 nights she had slept thru and now im run down with a cold

Am i right that mine is the oldest one here?, as mine was born on 1st Oct

florenceuk · 06/04/2005 10:13

Biglips, good to see you are still posting! Sorry to hear everyone is struggling with waking babies, IMO I think it has very little to do with food, and a lot to do with their sleep cycles. Anyway a small cause for celebration, DD went from her 10.30pm feed to 5.45am last night! A one-off but pretty good considering a week ago she was waking every 2hrs or so. I still feel tired though - so DS watching Jungle book 2 at the mo. Rickman, how are you coping with half term? Have to admit it is driving me nuts as everywhere you go is crowded and there are no activities for DS and all his friends are on holiday!

BTW, DD seems to have managed to get the hang of rolling despite having much less floor time than DS - because DS kept jumping on her. She is now absolutely desperate to move, and squawks with frustration because she can't reach the bookshelf (thank God).

BTW is everyone's baby still taking at least 3 naps a day? By this stage DS was already refusing to go down for his 3rd nap in his cot (had to be in the buggy), regardless of the fact that he'd only slept for 30min previously.

Off to watch the scary bits in Jungle book 2...

florenceuk · 06/04/2005 10:14

Sorry biglips missed your last post - congrats on getting your sleeping baba back

Bellie · 06/04/2005 10:21

Hi ya - Toots glad that it went OK and hope that you are now back in your Pj's!!
can't make the meet up on 2nd as family travelling to see dd so guess she really ought to be here!! .
biglips glad you decided to stay, and yes I think your baba is the eldest - mine is one of the youngest born 30th Oct, but still heavy enough thank you - 15lb last week!
Florence dd is still having 3 naps - but then she doesn't go to sleep in the eveneing until about 10ish but if I try to stop the late afternoon nap in order for her to sleep at 7.30 I just get one really cranky baby - so I don't go there anymore and just let her sleep when she wants - as she is still going through the night not really complaining!

biglips · 06/04/2005 10:22

flo - that is alot for 3 naps a day as mine is starting to have just one nap a day now as she used to have 2 naps a day

biglips · 06/04/2005 10:25

baba goes asleep between 11 - midnight till 9am, and even if baba goes asleep at 2am ill still wake her up at 9am so her sleeping patterns arent all over the place as once (and never again) i left baba to have 12 hours sleep and it was a BBIIGGG mistake as it took me 3 weeks to get back to the original sleeping pattern

cazzybabs · 06/04/2005 13:23

Ha ha - biglips I remember now. So she has come back to live with you - how is it going? Is she going to go back to France? And yes we have the cheque from the CTF. - just need to organsie ourselves to put it somewhere!

Flo - Grace is having 2 sleeps a day - a big one in the morning and then a smaller in the afternoon, plus some cat naps.

biglips · 06/04/2005 13:30

cazzy - did you just waited for yours (CTF)? or chased it up?

biglips · 06/04/2005 13:36

plus mum is pining for France but i said to her if she goes back, leave all her bloody furniture behind!!!!

cazzybabs · 06/04/2005 14:34

The cheque just came through the door last week - it was preceeded a few days earlier by a letter expainning all thew options of where to put it!

biglips · 06/04/2005 17:34

cazzy - hmm! ill just have to wait then, wont i? im off to baba's bedroom to carry on painting

Slave2Babe · 06/04/2005 17:52

Beansprout told me about the thread so thought i'd just pop up to say 'hi'.

i think we're hitting a growth spurt cos dd is very restless at the moment both day and night ... maybe its those pesky teeth!

KathH · 06/04/2005 18:03

Biglips - am the same as you, 1st October!

geogteach · 06/04/2005 19:29

Well DS still can't roll at all BUT (drum roll please) as of today we have 2 teeth! Not getting far with solids or sleeping through the night though. 2 day time naps here, half an hour in the norning and a couple of hours at lunch, bed around 7.
We have the CTF cheques (one for DD too)but I haven't done anything with them yet.
All sympathy to those of you suffering school holidays (never thought i'd say that as a teacher but as a mum...) today I got into a wrangle with DS over a bottle of ketchup which resulted in me slamming it on the table on which point the bottle exploded all over me, DD and the kitchen wall, then who looked stupid?!
Currently working up to said DS birthday party at the farm on Saturday, hope the weather cheers up. Going to be up to my armpits making cake and sarnies for the next couple of days.

florenceuk · 06/04/2005 22:18

Wow Geogteach teeth - and I scoffed when people raised the possibility at this tender age... re the ketchup explosion - poor you!

Rubbish weather tomorrow, but DS not great at shopping (esp as local ELC closed for refurbishment). Maybe (groan) the soft play centre again...BTW forecast for Sat is cold and sunny - cross fingers it stays that way for your DS!

Hi to Slave2babe and babe

cazzybabs · 07/04/2005 09:59

My friends baby is 3 months and has 2 teeth already - Grace has no teeth as yet!

She is loving the baby rice - she has 2 "meals" a day of about 2 teaspoons full.

jbadgirl · 07/04/2005 11:08

I wondered if ds might be teething but no signs yet. My friends baby is now 5 months and has 2 teeth!

His routine has changed again and he now wakes about 3 am and wont go back into his cot. He hasnt been sleeping during the day either so has been having about 6hours sleep in 24 hours.

huppa · 07/04/2005 11:24

jbadgirl - what a nightmare - you must be exhausted. Is it the jitters in his arms that keep him awake? Sorry haven´t really got any suggestions, but have you got friends and family around who can give you a break?

No teeth here, but dribbling like mad.

Welcome Slave2Babe

KathH · 07/04/2005 13:18

we're still toothless as well - altho other 3 never had any till about 7 months. Babymole has suddenly got really bad nappy rash so dont know if he's about to sprout a tooth - also had 2 really foul nappies as well today which has made the nappy rsah worse. My friend had a baby in January and he was born with 2 teeth! He was also a very hefty 10lb 7 when he was born.

jbadgirl · 07/04/2005 14:51

Huppa - we swaddle him when he is sleeping and feeding because of his jitters, but i dont think they are the reason, it could be him feeling a little under the weather as he has been off his milk? Who knows with these kids!

Ds had a mega sore nappy rash last week i started a thread "my poor baby" his bum was soooo sore it was bleeding, i think it was due to the antibiotics though.

biglips · 07/04/2005 16:26

no teeth here either but baba had been dribbling since she was 3 months old and now she is starting to suck her toes and socks !! She is learning how to take her shoes and socks off now - how annoying...

baba got a thing about labels on anything as she suck that for hours and hours !!! so shes a label girl

im in the middle of painting and nearly finished it and im baby-free today till 7pm as mum had got her all day - wwhhhhoopppeeeee !!!!
