October '04 babies - anyone fancy a kip?!!

I certainly do. Bean is becoming more and more unsettled in the night as the weeks go by and it is taking its toll. Florence, you have my utmost admiration for still being alive, let alone managing a trip to NZ!! Hope its going well.

Bean is 3 months tomorrow, and people are already asking me if I am going to start weaning him soon? I would like to keep bf until he is 6 months, but how do I know if he needs to start sooner? Or will I know that is a stupid question when I have a permanently hungry baby on my hands?!!
What is everyone else planning to do?

Btw, am reading a marvellous, marvellous book called "What Mothers Do (especially when it looks like nothing)" by Naomi Stadlen. It talks about what a shock it all is, what we provide for a our babies and crucially, what I find missing from so many other books, how we actually feel - exhausted, sometimes angry towards db, unsure of ourselves etc etc. It does not tell me what I "should" be doing - hurrah!!! Cannot recommend it highly enough. Is doing me the world of good and we like that.

Oooh, thanks for the website Beaker2. Love-ly.... (rubs thighs and neglects child momentarily)

Night wakings still regular but blow me, if I haven't actually managed to oversleep for the last two mornings. Quite pleased with myself, in a strange sort of a way.

Jbadgirl - hope you get the test results soon.
Biglips - glad you got the result you wanted.
Toots - Can I come round and watch Pingu if I promise not to make a mess?

Florence - hope things have settled down now - as you said yourself, surely things can only improve now.

Jbadgirl - hope you get some answers soon - it must be a worrying time.

Biglips - can´t believe you had to wait 4 months, but glad you got a good result.

Beansprout - very envious of the oversleeping.

Still no progress on the sleeping through front here. Ds now has a chest infection, so no improvement likely in the near future. I think dd coughing into his face several times a day hasn´t done him any favours.

We´re coming to England next week for a wedding and I can´t wait. Mind you I´m not looking forward to the 11 hour car ride to get there. As usual I´m sure it will be a week of over eating as I try to make up for all the things I can´t get hold of here in Germany - indian takeaways, costa coffee shops, walkers crisps, pret a manger sandwiches, ben and jerrys ice cream etc,etc.......

Went to see the consultant at the hospital - William definately has reflux and is now on medication so hopefully we wont constantly be covered in sick! Also have to start him on baby rice (he was 4 months on the 1st) but am dreading it. At least his sicks only milk at the moment! I know it was the consultant that said to do it but i do still feel he's a bit young even tho starting weaning my other 3 at 3 months. Has anyone else started yet?

Biglips - i dont know what mri stands for but yes it is a brain scan (very clever piece of machinery)

KathH - i was told by speech and language therapist to start to try ds with baby rice, he is now 15 weeks!

Bean was born at the other end of the month so is only just over 3 months. Am going to try and keep him going on milk for a while yet though. Good luck to anyone who is weaning.

What is the difference between baby rice and normal rice? I need to explain to dp before he starts trying to get Basmati into our child!!!

KathH DS1 had reflux and as far as I recall it was only milk he was sick on and he had gaviscon in that until he was well over a year.
DS2 saw the physio this week as he still does not open his thumbs or grip anything, I am under instruction to practice all these things and she will be back when he is 4 months (in 2 weeks)as he really should have got it by then.
Sleep has gone haywire, going down much earlier at night but wants to get up and play at 4am - I am not impressed.
We had hearing test within the first week, its just been introduced round here and my first 2 didn't get it. DS2 passed which is great given DS1's problems.
When are we going to meet up girls, sounds like some of you will be heading back to the real world soon and it would be nice to see you again!

help me girls. DD is sleeping so so badly. Today she has had 45 minutes all day (and that was in car) and all she does all evening is whinge. I am so knackered.

How much sleep are you all getting

Hi all - sounds like most people have had some positive news this week , although geogteach not so good with the sleeping. I am not sure that dd is gripping things particularly well at the moment, so I am sure that ds2 will get the hang of it with practice.
Kath - at least you know where you are with this now.
DD has gone to sleep so it is nice to have a Friday night to ourselves - although dh is watching the football - but at least it gives me time to be here!!

Would be great to meet up again at some point before everyone goes to the real world - I have decided not to go back so I am refusing to accept that it exists!!

I have been staying at my parents this week while dp has been away but am back now and today was the 1st time i have coped with both of them on my own (with a little help from nursery and a dvd). ddi has just gonee to bed (bad mother) and dd2 has just stoppee crying and fallen asleep.

ohh and the other excting thing is she rolled over...but hasnb't done it again!

Jbadgirl - Bean was born on 25th Oct.

Allyco - you have my full sympathy, had a phase where Bean did NOT sleep during the day and boy was he whinging by the evening. Decided to introduce daytime naps, whether or not he looked tired and told myself that some "quiet time" was better than nothing. If he whinged, ok, but if he got more upset I did go and see him. Gradually worked, but I may just have been lucky.
Mind you, Bean has gone from sleeping through to waking twice a night, so don't listen to me!

Geogteach - hope DS2 gets to grips with things soon, (ahem).

Rickman have yu not been for your 6 week check yet????? GO GO GO - soon it will be all over and the NHS shall cast you aside (well be less intested in you). Why are you feeling ill? Sorry to hear that.

Have sotred out tons of old clothes - the baby clothes have been muliplying and taking over the house. Have filled three bin liners full of dated/stainned/torn clothes and I still could have twins next time and not need to wash any clothes for a month! Am going to take them to the textiles recycling at Sainsburys - I shall look dead silly- pushchair, toddler, 3 bin bags walking 3 miles to Sainsburys!

Rickman - you should go for your 6 week check! You could need some iron tablets or something to help you feel better

Rickman - hope you are feeling better.
Biglips - are there weaning classes?! Let us know how it goes.

Have been to see another childminder today (3rd one) but still not impressed with anyone. Have got my eye on a local nursery that has special provision for leedle Beans, though so am going to look more into that. Have also decided that I want to only return to work on a part-time basis so need to have that discussion with my employer. This sort of stuff makes me very nervous, but (deep breath) will plough on.

Weaning.......doesn't that involve hours of begging and cajoling baby into having a teaspoon of mush and then spending the next hour cleaning it off baby, you, the floor, the wall, the cat and anything else within a 6 metre radius. I think that I'll just wait until he can say what topping he'd like on his pizza before I even think about addressing the issue.

Rickman, have you been to the doctor yet?

Geogtech, DS has also recently decided that 5am is great time for play, coupled with his latest vocal discovery which sounds something like a terodactyl.

Report
geogteach · 08/02/2005 14:59

Michmash we are obviously kindred spirits in the weaning department, in fact you make it sound positively glamorous com pared to what I recall
Bean I went back 3 days and used a nursery first (and second) time round, DS1 loves it so much he is still there 1 day a week even though i'm not working, I have always felt happier having a group of adults, rather than just one who might be having an off day (not that I ever have off days looking after them myself ) looking after my kids, hope you find something you are happy with.
Beginning to think I should regulate how much DS sleeps in the day in an attempt at better nights, he will quite haapily sleep 3 hours at lunchtime and still need waking.
