October '04 babies - anyone fancy a kip?!!

I certainly do. Bean is becoming more and more unsettled in the night as the weeks go by and it is taking its toll. Florence, you have my utmost admiration for still being alive, let alone managing a trip to NZ!! Hope its going well.

Bean is 3 months tomorrow, and people are already asking me if I am going to start weaning him soon? I would like to keep bf until he is 6 months, but how do I know if he needs to start sooner? Or will I know that is a stupid question when I have a permanently hungry baby on my hands?!!
What is everyone else planning to do?

Btw, am reading a marvellous, marvellous book called "What Mothers Do (especially when it looks like nothing)" by Naomi Stadlen. It talks about what a shock it all is, what we provide for a our babies and crucially, what I find missing from so many other books, how we actually feel - exhausted, sometimes angry towards db, unsure of ourselves etc etc. It does not tell me what I "should" be doing - hurrah!!! Cannot recommend it highly enough. Is doing me the world of good and we like that.

jbad - bleeding sore bum - ouch!!! ... awww hopes hes ok?

Bellie · 07/04/2005 16:48

Oh for a baby free day - lucky you biglips - say that whilst adoring dd would like a babyless day for once! but as family live 4 hours drive away unlikely to happen soon!
DD has been dribbling with red cheeks for weeks now and still no sign of any teeth but was not expecting that you could get two at once geogteach so will look out for surprises!

bibiboo · 07/04/2005 17:58

Kath H, I was in work Mon-Wed (i'm taking some of my leave on Thurs/Fris for a gentler start back to work!)
how are you finding it? In my quieter moments I've been lurking on MN without the boss noticing, and anyway, she told em to take the first week easy! [grin}]

bibiboo · 07/04/2005 18:02

Can I just ask, has anyone else founf their relationship with their dhs/dps strained since th ebirth of your dbs? We have argued a lot more than we ever did before and it's getting me down a bit now. He would like another baby sooner rather than later, which I would go along with if he was 100% serious because I love being a mummy and secretly want another too, but he is refusing to move house or even go viewing to see what's ont he market. Really p*ssing me off! And also, his argument is that we should be saving not spending - we've almost saved enough for him to have a brand new car - i'm sick of saving!

Rant over ....[calmer emoticon] ... off to the relationships thread now for a longer rant

KathH · 07/04/2005 18:17

Bibiboo - first week was ok altho i dont know if it was the novelty factor! My boss did ask me on Tuesday if i'd got back into the swing of things, i work at an accountants and had to explain to him that whilst i'd been off i had not remembered things like tax bands and inheritance tax laws and it might take a little while before i remember that pre-ds2 that i did know about such things. Mind you, this is the man that thought i might study for some exams whilst i was on maternity leave! How are you getting on? Yes, me and dh have constantly argued altho mostly about money (or lack of) while i've been off - the problem is that he's on quite a good wage and i used to be and its been a shock to the system having to survive on mat. pay. Also altho we have 3 other children the youngest one of them is now 6 and i think he's forgotten how completely knackering it is looking after a baby so i've had a few snide comments about sitting on my arse all day whilst he's been paying all the bills - sadly he's one of these that thinks looking after 4 kids isnt much of a contribution. i dont know what you've been arguing about or whether like me and dh you argue about anything and everything! (we dont all the time - tend to go thru phases of arguing!)

geogteach · 07/04/2005 22:16

Bellie, noticed one at lunch and the other at tea so not strictly together but DD was unafflicted by teething pain and she definately had 2 before I noticed! DS is still wingey and some amazing nappies today so maybe he is planning on getting the whole lot at once!

bibi - same here as we are arguing more due to lack of sleep (for the past month) and with my mum who i think is deaf as she is doing my head in as she is shouting and waking baba up all the time and ive repeatly ask her not to shout so she is going for a hearing test - HOORAY at last!!. DP is moody cos of his job as it getting him down and i cant handle his moodiness when hes tired and im just as bad too.... So we are looking for a holiday at the mo...

The reason why we are tired is that DP got restless legs syndrome (hes going for tests soon at hossy but at the mo is on low dose anti-depressants tabs to relax his legs - he now just gets little twitches) and he twitched himself awake or wakes me up then other nights baba wakes us up...

biglips · 07/04/2005 23:34

plus im hoping for baby no2 but in 2.5 - 3 yrs time as i wanna enjoy being with this one for now

KathH · 07/04/2005 23:42

Biglips - sorry to sound nosey but where in L'pool are you? My aunty lives right next to Croxteth Park & Hall (?) , am going to see her over the summer for a few days, perhaps we could have a mini October 04 babies meet up?

biglips · 07/04/2005 23:44

yeah .... i live in Seaforth - its about 15 mins away from your auntys - Croxeth Hall Park

docket · 08/04/2005 11:49

No teeth here either, although he's been dribbling like a trooper for months. Am not particularly looking forward to their arrival as my nipples are already taking a battering, he still won't accept a bottle. Sorry, bit too much info perhaps!

Bibi, my relationship with dp has changed, in a way we are closer than ever but there is definitely more stuff to argue about. He asked me where his pants were this morning and I flipped (what is it about men and pants?!!). Truth be told I'm a bit over-sensitive about being the one at home and doing all the chores, in that sense I'm almost looking forward to going back to work again. Plus of course money is too tight to mention which is always an issue.

I had a much better night last night, wishing the same for all those who need them!

Toots · 08/04/2005 13:06

I always warn pregnant friends that they are rather likely to have some deep humdingers in the first six months. When dd1 was about six months old, I was seriously doubting me and dp's compatibility. But we came through it fine, and I hope you all do too.

Actually dropped by to say 'oops' can't in fact do Monday 2nd. Mum's 75th birthday on 3rd and wants us to do something on BHM as sister at work the next day. In fact think I'm going to have to step down as host/organiser, as I'm finding work and kids so all-encompassing at the moment. Will check in and see you all soon.

jbadgirl · 08/04/2005 13:23

Well what a night i had... ds went to sleep at 8pm and woke up at 6am!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shame i didnt sleep so well but its sods law isnt it!

We have been feeling the strain in our relationship and dp thinks that its easy looking after a baby all day who has feeding difficulties, development delays, wont be out don unless asleep as he feels insecure.

Im going back to work in may 4 days a week so he will have to start pulling his weight. At the moment he doesnt feed, change or bath ds. So things have to improve.

And we are trying to organise the wedding which is going well have the church and reception booked now!

cazzybabs · 08/04/2005 13:42

WOW - booked church and reception venue - am still waiting for date from Bishop - beginning to re-go off idea. I do this eveyrtime - get really excitied and then a few weeks later am bored by the whole thing.

jbadgirl I always had the rule the dp had to do baths even he is does nothing else because thats the one thing I don't have to do - feeding I had to do etc and nappies its only far to share. Your ds sounds like such a poppet though!

Beansprout - haven#t posted on your other thread but what a nightmare (big understatment) - lots and lots of hugs

Biglips - hows your mums hearing test?

biglips · 08/04/2005 21:45

cazzy - mum is going 4 the hearing test on monday

how often does any of yous bath your babas? as i do once a week, as just wondering!

cazzybabs · 09/04/2005 09:32

Me too once a week for baths - I mean how dirty can babies get? Mind you I also bath dd1 once a week (we just don't have the time for anything else).

KathH · 09/04/2005 09:52

at the moment every other day (dd1 &2, ds1 all have excema so we were always told not to bath them too often) but then when they start crawling every day.

biglips · 09/04/2005 11:18

oh no!!! thinks baba got her first cold as she was screaming last night till 3am!! and woke up again at 5.30 for a feed (she had half an hour sleep yesterday afternoon), i woken her up at 9.30am and she sneezed out this big slug out of her nose !!!! Yep She caught the cold off me - awww poor thing so i had given her Calpol and she is ok and smiling but sneezing her head off and i was supposed to be going out tonight to a party do (not fair!!! )

biglips · 09/04/2005 11:19

any of yous had a c-section? as i did and im still abit sore and tender- is that right?

KathH · 09/04/2005 15:34

we have a cold too - was up all night (or thats how it feels) with babymole sniffing and snorting.

jbadgirl · 09/04/2005 16:33

I give ds a bath 1/2 times a week but he absolutely hates it and as i have said b4 gets freaked out by his arms jittering.

Another good night (hope it lasts for a bit longer) he went down at 8pm and was up at 6am for a feed, then went back to sleep for another hour!!!!

I am getting a little excited about the wedding and cant wait to go dress hunting, am on weight watchers to try and have some hope of fitting into my old jeans and a size10/12 wedding dress!!! At least i have just over a year to achieve this!!!

huppa · 09/04/2005 19:56

Ds only gets a bath once a week - as Cazzybabs said - how dirty can a baby get?

Biglips and KathH hope your little ones are feeling a bit better today.

Jbadgirl - glad to hear things are going so well on the sleep front.

Beansprout - only just had a chance to read your other thread. I really hope things work out o.k. this week. Glad that you sound a bit happier today.

florenceuk · 10/04/2005 10:09

Toots don't worry re meet-up - something will happen. I get the feeling we are all very busy trying to get our lives back on track after the chaos of the past six months - can only look on in amazement at those of you who are planning weddings!!! Beansprout, have just looked at your other thread - lots of virtual hugs and hope the CSA sees sense. Your DH sounds like a really lovely caring person. To those with colds mucho sympathy, DD and DH just recovered.

DD off to childminders tomorrow for "trial" afternoon. So far this week she has taken all her bottles really well, but we've always finished off on the breast. Haven't tried formula yet - no real reason except the pure pleasure of having "grown" baby all myself and slight paranoia about BF supply. So tomorrow might be a bit of a shock for her - I'll have some BM to mix in though.

KathH · 10/04/2005 11:34

we have the beginnings of a tooth! Have just put some teething gel on babymole and i felt something sharp and you can just see it poking thru!
