October '04 babies - anyone fancy a kip?!!

I certainly do. Bean is becoming more and more unsettled in the night as the weeks go by and it is taking its toll. Florence, you have my utmost admiration for still being alive, let alone managing a trip to NZ!! Hope its going well.

Bean is 3 months tomorrow, and people are already asking me if I am going to start weaning him soon? I would like to keep bf until he is 6 months, but how do I know if he needs to start sooner? Or will I know that is a stupid question when I have a permanently hungry baby on my hands?!!
What is everyone else planning to do?

Btw, am reading a marvellous, marvellous book called "What Mothers Do (especially when it looks like nothing)" by Naomi Stadlen. It talks about what a shock it all is, what we provide for a our babies and crucially, what I find missing from so many other books, how we actually feel - exhausted, sometimes angry towards db, unsure of ourselves etc etc. It does not tell me what I "should" be doing - hurrah!!! Cannot recommend it highly enough. Is doing me the world of good and we like that.

Oh yes, the syringe thing. Thanks for the advice Florence. Having some success with a medicine dummy, just takes a bit of patience, as he isnt' a dummy boy.
Still can't get the Calpol pink out of his clothes . Tried, Oxi Action, soaking in Fairy. Anyone know how to get that stuff out???

Well the day of our genetisist appointment has arrived, dont think we will get any more news but we will see.

Ds is up and down on the weaning as he still has the tail end of his chest infection (had it 4 weeks now) and on 3rd lot of antibiotics.

He has been sleeping all night too except for last night when he woke at 12-1 then slept till 5am.

(I know this is nothing to do with this but I am bit freaked out - dd1 may have a 6th toe - she has to go for an Xray on Thurs - YUCK YUCK YUCK - what a freak. Its kind of a boney outgriwth on the side of her foot!)

Why won't my baby roll over? Any other six-months who don't do it yet? Starting to panic at Chez Bibi and make Boo watch Roly Mo a lot now to get the idea ...

Report
Maisiemog · 19/04/2005 22:25

Bibiboo - I bet your baby can roll over, he/she just doesn't have any reason to do it. My baby does it, very occasionally, when he is really fed up, but he doesn't very often get left shouting long enough to get really fed up - so he doesn't bother rolling.

bibiboo · 19/04/2005 22:30

cazzybabs, wash all child's white clothing with a pink bib/sock/tights and then everything is Calpol coloured. porblem solved ... unless you have a boy.

Okay, can everyone send Boo roll over vibes tomorrow morning please? I will let you know the power of our collective thought. How cool would this be if it worked?....

Bibi why do you want boo to roll? I can tell you it is a right pain when they flip over on the changing mat when you are trying to change that poo-ey nappy - and then more contortions as you try to get the new one on! Now why doesn't my DD seem to like eating???

Cazzybabs, didn't Anne Boleyn have a sixth finger? She had specially long sleeves to hide it.

Bibi - florence is right it can be a right pain when they roll over during changing - I have also had to move everything out of sight in the changing area as this just encourages dd to roll towards it !

It's just that she's been a textbook baby so far and it's freaking me out a bit that she's not rolling when every other 6mo in the world seems to be. But I agree it will be a pain. Her cousin (7wks older) is rolling and she's a pain to change or put to sleep, but I still want a rolly baby! This morning we took a shower together and she squealed with delight when the water hit her belly, so I forgive her for not rolling. She's so cute!
Am I the only one who watches for developmental milestones like a woman possessed? Is this a new mother thing?

ive started to change baba on the changing mat on the floor as used to do it on the couch but she was grabbing everything in sight.... now its alot easier (ish)...

bought a cotbed yesterday - very fancy cot - so cant wait to get it up and shove baba in there so she is not screaming down our ear hole in the middle of the night - any advice how to do it? do i keep her crib in our room just in case?

bibi - i wouldnt worry about your baba not rolling as its the same principle that not all babies learnt to crawl they just walked, all babies are individual..

Report
bibiboo · 20/04/2005 14:16

biglips, I'd do a gradual moce from bed, to cot, to own room. We put dd in her cot in our room first, and when she was used to the cot, moved it t her own room. She never had a problem with any of the moves, but like I said, textbook so far. Good luck. It's a worry on their first night on their own - we barely slept, listening for her breathing down the monitor, but it gets easier when you realise they aren't phased by it at all.
I'll ring grandma now, see if dd did roll over from the mumsnet vibes. ...

Bibiboo, DS doesn't roll, hope that makes you feel better! i can live without rolling but I wish he'd get on and sit up, i'm sure he'd be much happier. Feeding is a bit on and off here and due to extreme biting (ouch)i'm working on dropping breast feeding. Went to see my boss yestaday (about to start another thread on that), will be going back to work at the start of June for 7 weeks.
DS2 had new set of grommets put in today, I am astounded how quickly he can get over a general anasthtic, went to play with friends this afternoon.

Speaking of changing baby problems - I often use a bowl of water and a sponge or cotton wool to clean Pog's bum and used to put it next to the mat. BOOM!! SPLOSH!!!! Now the bowl is far far from the mat.
Now Pog is enthusiastically eating everything offered nrrrrrrh chomp chomp - he seems to have the worst case of blue mouth ever. You know the windy blue lip thing and the spit up is awful, now it's coloured and flies. I don't know how often I should burp him, or how much/often to feed him. What's a good book/website about weaning and amounts of food to give?

Bean isn't rolling (he can go from his front to his back if he really wants to but that's about it), or sitting, or teething! He's a happy chappy though and that is by far the main thing. Have also decided to keep b/feeding until I get some more "mum, can I have some grub?" signs. Will just see how it goes, take it a day at a time. He still isn't quite 6 months yet (that's on Monday) so am not in a rush.

Also, he should be moving into his own room some time next week. I've been in the spare room for nearly 3 weeks now as ds gets very agitated if I am around, but he is ok if I am not.

Cazzybabs - how did dd1's x-ray go? I have a bone spur that makes me look like I have 2 ankle joints on one foot. They are very, very common apparently.
Geogteach - good luck with your (temporary) return to the world of work.
Bibi - did Boo roll? If she did, this could be the start of something spooky!!

Boo didn't roll over, but she did frighten a 1yo to tears! My step-SILs little girl was at MILs and she is very timid, and is brought up in a quiet, orderly house, by her quiet, orderly mum and sees very few other babies. She's a sweet little thing, but reserved. Carys on the other hand is used to people and noise (noisy dad and his noisy music) and can be quite loud, loves the sound of her own shouts etc! The 1yo came in, dd took one look at her and decided to shout in baby language "Wow! There's XXX, I like her, yay!" or something imilar, the poor mite jumped a mile, toddled to her mum and wouldn't go near her the rest of the aternoon! My daugher's a bully
