Here we go. I was too sick, sleepy and preoccupied with my weight to notice the old thread running out

well done daisy, I am shamed.

Sputnik · 19/05/2008 21:28

Nesting Daisy?

I will never get involved in anything to do with school, I am the mad foreigner, so have a perfect excuse

Holly, we cut 1 side off the cheapest Ikea cot and strapped it to the bed, stingy? Us?

Parties, we've only had family for DD's (except when she was 1 and had a handful of people we knew with babies), she is end of July so the best thing we can do is have a day at the beach. Still don't have a plan for Baby Sputnik, think he (just) falls into the school holidays here, so that will be useful in future!

phew daisy I am knackered for you

jammy we are doing cornflour where if you stir is liquid if you leave is solid kids stir it with their fingers
alkaseltzer into film canisters pops the lids off
and the finale is mentoes into diet coke becomes a garden volcano

probably will do a couple of others but need to work out timings

RiaButterflew · 19/05/2008 22:06

sounds messy andie. but fun for small boys no doubt.

justbeme · 19/05/2008 22:08

Ohh you've all been very chatty!
Hope you feel better soon Jammy - Ive had gut ache since after tea - keeps coming and going... hope its not that awful bug again.

Can I ask you BF Mums to re-cap on part of an earlier conversation?
How many times a day and when do you still BF?
I feed in bed at 7:30ish
again at 11ish
then at 4ish
and at 7pm
and then anything from 1+ times in the night.

Another Mum said she was only feeding her DD after breakfast and after Tea and the rest of the day the baby has water.
So I started to doubt what I was doing. What is "recommended" at 11mths?

andiem · 19/05/2008 22:08

fun for big boys too ria

andiem · 19/05/2008 22:11

jbm I think we all do different things
I do bf morning and night just introduced drink of cow's milk in the afternoon and anything up to 3x night he has water in between

RiaButterflew · 19/05/2008 22:15

In our house the "big boy" is smaller than the small ones, but shouts louder. I bought the hamster book for friends teenage DS for christmas. (I got BIL the Dangerous book for boys, he never said thanks, I think it might have been the 50 year caledar that pissed him off)

lackaDAISYcal · 19/05/2008 22:17

jbm, I think feeding on demand is fine at this age. Your feeding regime sounded like mine before I got pregnant and my supply went wonky. did that mum say whether she was still feeding through the night? Milk should still be baby's main source of nutrition up till a year; two BFs a day doesn't sound quite enough to me.

Are you thinking of winding down?

RiaButterflew · 19/05/2008 22:19

I have lost my specs (again) and my eyes are killing me. So I should go.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow (I should be too busy to post, but I bet I'm here).

Night all.

lackaDAISYcal · 19/05/2008 22:22

sorry, meant two BFs and no other milk not quite enough.

Even on bottles DD is having 7 ozs in the morning, 5ozs mid morning and mid afternoon and another 7ozs at night. she sometimes has another 5ozs of she wakes in the night....and she still manages three solid meals a day with snacks and has water in her cup for drinking when she wants to (although she mostly pours it all over herself)

talking of bottles vs cups earlier, I have tried giving DD milk from a cup, but she only takes a couple of ozs that way. What's the best way to wean her off bottles? I'm sure DS was drinking all his milk from a cup by the time he was a year old.

RiaButterflew · 19/05/2008 22:22

I aren't BF any more, but baggins seems to need more FFs than he was a couple of weeks ago. He has been having an extra bottle at night and has gone from 5oz to 6oz with his lunch and tea. A couple of days when he was extra tired he had 8/9oz at lunch and only a couple of spoonfuls. He seems to be droping his morning nap so I'm thinking it's connected?

RiaButterflew · 19/05/2008 22:25

he was having 7oz at breakfast, 5oz lunch tea, then 7oz at bedtime, plus "proper" food breakfast, lunch and tea. He wasn't having a mid-night feed either.

justbeme · 19/05/2008 22:27

Im not sure Daisy if the other Mum feeds at night.
Ideally I want to feed to 1yr and then like Jammy carry on morning and night for a couple of months. But not sure what I'll do for the 2 nights a week where I start work at 5:15pm from July.

And forgot to say "phew!" Daisy - Im surprised you're not in bed after that lot!!

justbeme · 19/05/2008 22:32

I remember with DD1 using a Avent soft spout on her bottles when weaning off breast. I've found these on Ebay - do you reckon they fit the Avent bottles? BF'ing is such a lovely comforting experience for the baby - to put them on a Tommee Tippee type hard plastic spout for cows milk seems a bit of a shock. What do you think?

here

lackaDAISYcal · 19/05/2008 22:51

they do fit the avent bottles. I'm sure I used those with DS, then went on to the green ones after that.

DD just doesn't see her cup as being for drinking lots from.....she drinks a bit, then up ends it and watches the water pour out.

I think I had some Boots bottles as well that had a soft flat teat and handles as a sort of halfway house. I'll need to have a look for something as I'd like her to be off bottles sooner rather than later.

Sputnik · 20/05/2008 08:15

So have you stopped bf now Daisy?

We do 1 early morning (6ish), 1 mid morning, mid afternoon, bedtime. Maybe 1 at night but he seems to be dropping that.

Had another tough night, he woke up as I was going to bed, had a really high temperature and took nearly 2 hours to go back to sleep. Then woke up at 6 and did the same thing. The doc yesterday said it was his throat and probably teeth coming in and to wait a couple of days. I hope he gets over it soon as he's obviously in a lot of pain (and I'm not getting much sleep).

andiem · 20/05/2008 10:16

sputnik sorry you had another crap night hope ds is better soon
will you get a chance to have a kip today?

re the cup thing ds uses these for both milk and water now they are no spill and have a soft spout he started with the other tt cup and have just swapped him to these and he uses them really well they are cheaper in boots than it says on the website about £2.50

andiem · 20/05/2008 10:17

yay well done fairy for tip did you win anything

I have been sent some organic baby bath and oil stuff by tips to test

foxythesnowfox · 20/05/2008 10:30

With regard to the milk thing, we do one before breakfast, mid-morning, mid-afternoon (bottle of formula), bedtime.

I'll switch the mid-morning bottle to formula/cows then carry on with the early morning and bedtime.

FrazzledFairyFay · 20/05/2008 10:41

Hellooooo. Hoe exciting getting tip of the day - I'm glad someone noticed as I hadn't! I don't think I win anything unfortunately .
