hi WO, not bumped into you on here for ages

NorthernLurker · 14/03/2008 13:33

Hi all

not too great a night here either tbh - B woke just after 11 - which is very early for her - I said to dh I would give her medised as she was making a lot of noise and i thought she might be sore somewhere. He said - no don't, she's not ill - so we didn't. Well - she wouldn't settle, tried the travel cot but she just yelled - eventually got her off in bed with me just before 1am, slept till 4 then another feed - which I know she doesn't need but it seemed the only way - then asleep till the alarm. Very firmly told dh next time I want to give her medised or calpol he can just leave me to it!

WO - how is C now - is her chest better?
POTC - did you hear any more about the housing situation?
SPB - when are you going to come shopping in York - go on - you know you want to

{SPB starts packing bags and making plans to emigrate}

Sexonlegs · 14/03/2008 14:00

Afternoon ladies

WO, long time no see

So many having bad nights. Ours wasn't great, but nothing compared to some of you. K was dosed with medised at about 1.30 a.m. Fab stuff, although she doesn't think so!

Hi Pillock. No name suggestions - am brain dead!

All ok here, although K not herself. Snotty, coughy, whiny. Currently napping so can't complain.

SPB, not sure what we will change. Thought about moving house to something smaller. Who knows, but something has got to change.

Right, K awake so better head off.

Hope everyone is well. xx

Sexonlegs · 14/03/2008 14:26

Me again. Quick question for those formula feeding.

Are you using bottles with teats or beakers for lo's milk??

Octothechildherder · 14/03/2008 14:34

Teats for milk and beaker for water. He only has two a day and in no rush to change.

Thread title: The Easter Bunnies are One!

NorthernLurker · 14/03/2008 14:35

Good title Octo - but at the rate this thread goes (even now) only about five of them will be 1 by the time it's time for another new thread!

Eddas · 14/03/2008 15:44

dd is really getting on my nerves today the kid has not stopped asking questions since I picked her from preschool. That's getting on for 4 hours of it now thank goodness dh will be home just after 4. Mind you I did take her shopping so I guess it's my own fault She managed to swindle a new bag out of me too. We went to a friends yesterday(EandH's) her dd had a cat bag and dd was desperate for one she now has a bunny bag(no cats btu plenty of bunnies about) she also got a lipgloss and lipgloss phone thingy as it was 3for2 in claire's accessories.

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2008 16:16

oh dear eddas, hopefully he's home now!
SOL that all sounds very positive. Do you both work long hours? Are you hoping to cut down on that and spend more time as a family?

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2008 16:18

been to a birthday party today and I'm feeling like a bad parent...I just don't seem to interact with T in the same way other mums do with their LOs Don't know why or what I can do to improve that, just the way I am

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 14/03/2008 16:25

SPB - a mum asked me at toddlers once how I got my children to play so nicely and indepedently - I told her the truth - I ignore them!

Now look - you know T's moods and grumps and delights - I know that because it comes across in every post you write! As you know I'm on child no 3 so I feel qualified to say - you will always think other mothers are doing a better job than you. Their children will always shine and they will always have better jumpers than you - but this is all an illusion. They are faking it just like the rest of us and the fact remains - you are the centre of your son's world - and all he wants is you.

NorthernLurker · 14/03/2008 16:26

Or is it just me who attends baby groups with women with lovely taste in knitwear?

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2008 16:36

lol at better jumpers
thanks nl
they just all seem more tuned in to their children, i do tend to ignore a bit too much i think!

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2008 16:37

birthday girl had a fairy outfit - she looked so sweet but i don't feel inferior for not dressing t in one

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 14/03/2008 16:42

no I think you're ok with that one! Babies need to explore and work out tehir own strategies for dealing with things - if you followed them around talking to them constantly they wouldn't be able to do that.

Whilst I've been typing this B has found a tissue she is now trying to eat - back in a mo!

oooggs · 14/03/2008 18:03

katy/NL - I totally agree, if you follow them around what are they learning? Just remember, how can I follow 2 or 3?????

Independance is encouraged here - how else would I MN ?

just put next car seat in car for J and have ordered one for E.

Hoping a good night is had by all, probably back later

Maveta · 14/03/2008 18:43

evening, only skim read so apologies I can't do personals.. feeling very worn out today. Thanks for the sympathy re. the late night/early morning, thankfully last night he went from 8.30pm-7.30am with one wake up at about 2am so for that part of things I feel great.

It's been a hellishly busy day at work and a bit of a taster of how hard things are going to be at times once I am back full time and the season really starts ramping up I often have to keep working once I get home and that's enough of a pain as it is without also having to care for a baby. Dh is off evening school from June and will only be working 10am-2pm so he will be ok to look after Noah most of the summer but I have no idea what I will do in April and May . I'll manage, it's just going to be hard.

Noah is crawling like crazy now, we definitely need more stairgates and he's properly started pulling up too. I do worry about him falling over as he seems to do a dead man's drop and if he hits these tiles when I'm not looking it's going to really hurt.

Oh and I think those bugs are definitely fleas [ACK!] so more spring cleaning this weekend [YAY]

Is it bad to let your child lick the floor while you mumsnet? (and with that Katy, I contribute to your 'am I a bad mum?' moment )

Sexonlegs · 14/03/2008 19:14

Evening all.

Why is it that children get poorly, when, you are either a. on holiday b. just as dh heading off on business??

K has been off all week but today at tea came down with a really high temp, drowsy etc. Given her calpol and keeping everything crossed that it is just a minor virus. Grrrrr.

Katy, I used to let B wander off (obv within reason) and she was a sociable child really early on. I know of other mums who have wrapped their kids in cotton wool and they are having real problems.

Right, need to get on, but back later. Hope all is well. xx

weeonion · 14/03/2008 20:01

sob - i sometimes get a feeling that everyone else knows what they are doing and i am just kinda bluffing it with C. then at other times i think that we are just developing our very own relationship and way of being with each other. i know who she looks to for reassurance, praise and comfort so i guess she knows i am her mum. i know T knows that about you too. how you are with him is unique and very personal to you.

weeonion · 14/03/2008 20:20

oops = that should have been to sPb.

runnyhabbit · 14/03/2008 20:34

well I am def bluffing my way through parenthood
and will prob still be bluffing for the next 30 or so years
