UniS · 04/03/2008 16:20

I'm not doing "THE CAKE" this year :-( MiL got her dibs in early as shes had a commission to do a small boys special cake and wants to try it out on boys birthday first ! Shes does celebration cakes with fancy sugurcraft decorations... I surpose I'm gratefull... My back up plan is to make some fiary ckes and get boy and his mate K to decorate them them on thursday when K is over to play, then take the results to toddlers on friday to be consumed by boy, K and many other sticky fingered tykes.

Pull ups? how much wee DO they hold. suspect I was changing K more often than needed this morning. ho hum. may be he will get bored of frequent changes and start to tell people BEFORE he wees.

Just ordered boys birthday bike. Islabikes Rothan( google it for pic) looks like a goodie.

RL is rather busy this week. sorry for flying vist, may find more time later.
BBBBYYYEEE.

Frizbe · 05/03/2008 16:10

LL sorry forgot to ask, any news from the hospital yet?

Uni, sounds like a good deal to me and reckon the boys will have lots of fun doing cakes for toddlers too
Enjoy real life!!

laundrylover · 05/03/2008 21:44

Hi Friz, how are you???

I've got hosp appts on Mon and Tues next week....erk!

Not had time to think about it being a Valerie Singlemum this week. I'm actually quite enjoying it you know!!!!

OP posts:
UniS · 06/03/2008 19:42

well boy and K had a god time eating the decorations and licking teh cakes ! I won;t tell... the one with obviously pre chewed jelly sweets on top isn;t leaving the house and dh and I ate two of teh more dodgy ones.

Myt parents wont; make boys birthday tea :-( both ill.

Astrophe · 06/03/2008 20:05

Uni - bike looks great We got one very similar for DS and DD for chrissy - a Puky one though. Not working out as well as we thought, as DS hasn't really taken to it yet, and we have the seat too low for DD (so that DS can ride it too). Think we will put the seat up and accept that only DD will ride it for now - I'm sure DS will get into it in the future, but he hasn't had much practice as he is only outside for about 5 minutes before he starts crying "cold! too cold! Go inside!" Softie! Roll on summer!

Sorry your folks can't make DS's party Can you have another little tea when they are well again?

Well, almost completed my week as vomity single mum - DH back tomorrow arvo! Hurrah! Just in time to tidy the house which has never been so messy since we moved here! Makes me realise how important the half hour a night tidy up is!

I bought DH and I bikes in the amazon sale - no idea if they are good ones - I suspect not brilliant, but I think they will suit our purposes. Bought a 'top tube' child seat for DD (like tis - not sure what we will get for DS. Uni and LL, how are you both getting on with your trailers? I'd rather go for a child seat, but suspect he will shortly outgrow it anyway, so maybe better to go for a trailer? Space is a prob, as we will take them in the camper.

How are things with DH Friz?

Tummies almost back to normal, although DS is still mega tired, s lots on tantrums.

I am procrastinating - need to go and make the tractor cake...

Frizbe · 06/03/2008 22:31

Astro good luck with the tractor cake
Hurrah for your dh nearly being back, and for your's too LL.
{{{Big Hugs}}} for the illness this week Astro, its not nice at all

LL, good luck with the apptmts next week {{{{Big Hugs}}}}
Odd how sometimes just the kids to tidy up after makes things easier eh?

Dh is a stress bunny, After this morning I insisted he had this afternoon off work and he came home and according to my mum went to bed for the afternoon (she was looking after the kids) He threw a tissy fit at me infront of customers who I had to apologise to this am, as he stropped out of the store like a small child (I told them he was off to Dr's and stressed about it, which he was, but no excuse for having a random stressed out tizzy in front of customers) I told him off later and he apologised, seems he didn't realise they were there, when I was actually talking to them at the time
One of his mates popped round this afternoon and we had a coffee and natter, his stress levels are not going un noticed Friend thinks he should slow down too, sigh, we've just got to get him to listen.

UniS · 07/03/2008 22:22

Puky are good make too by all accounts, but the rothan is a bit less primary coloured ! Took boy to teh post box on a borrowed scooter today, hes so up for it with wheels. gets his lid and bike gloves tomorrow at tea party, bike arrives end of next week fingers crossed.

my dad still ill, mum off work lookig after him , hes still throwing up, not able to sleep etc. sounds like a v nasty viral thing plus cheast infection. Hes a bad patient too. We can't go to stay with them at Easter as they have my gran staying and its a 4 hour drive each way so a day trip is not on. Might be MAy before we see them but then will be for a weeks holiday in cornwall. Pooy cottage at Hustyns nr Wadebridge. looks nice from teh web site.

Frizbe · 07/03/2008 22:25

for your dad being so poorly Uni, hope he's lots better for you all soon.

Nothing happening here, am enjoying the quiet now dh is away for the weekend
I was trying to provide sympathy this am, when a bruised arm was being proffered my way, with the accompanying 'I never bruise, I must be seriously ill' I only tried to say, don't worry I always bruise when they take my blood (and lets face it they take a lot when your pregnant) to be met with the wail of, 'you never give me any sympathy, all I want is some sympathy' shrug, I give up. He's away for the weekend now, hoping he comes back more positive.

Astrophe · 08/03/2008 16:52

So sorry about your Dad Uni, hope is better very soon and that its still lovely birthday for DS. I know what you mean about the primary colours of the puky! Think you can get a light blue one (?), but ours is blue/red/yellow I won the minimicro scooter on MN competition last year, and it is a real hit too - they both love it s much I think we will buy another one and take them to Europe for them to scoot around campsites.

I'll be really interested to know how you get on with the training bike. I think I had the idea they would go fanging around on it - use it for 'transport' (like they do with the scooter - like your boy to the post box , bless him). But we have found its good for balance training, but not for racing around on, and best used on a gentle slope. So still great (DD's balance is improving), but different from what I had in mind IYSWIM. That said, I'm sure all kids use them differently, and as they get older they will use it 'better' as well. Also, could just be that I have lazy kids!

Oh Friz Men! Mine are asleep on the sofa! They have no stamina and are a bunch of wusses. We had a lovely, if chaotic (was raining, so no outside play) party for DS today, tractor cake was a success (photos on my profile ), but now DH is far to tired to clean up Ah well, he was very good last night with cleaning the house, hoovering and putting chocolate lolipops into cellophane bags, so I'm very grateful for him really

I hope your DH shapes up Friz - its such a drag when they are down isn't it?

Frizbe · 08/03/2008 21:02

So let me attempt to get this right, is it Happy Birthday for Eli and Uniboy this weekend then? as we have no stats I'm lost

Uni, its ok re dh, I'm enjoying the peace and quiet and if he gets more annoying I'm sending him to live in Alaska with CSWS's dh and anyone elses that is whinging too

Astrophe · 08/03/2008 21:35

Frizbegirl= 4th March
Astroboy= 9th March
Uniboy=10th March
LLgirl= 29th March

I had the great idea of sending all the little ones birthday cards...but didn't get organised...sorry

Got to wrap pressies for the big day tomorrow! DS got some nice gifts today, including 3 red and grey long sleeve tops! All very nice, but very similar (guess he must look good in red!) - might take one or two back to exchange colours! He also got football goals, which he will love so much, as he just adores his football and is amazingly good at dribbling up and down the garden. Thomas the Tank AquaDraw has been a big hit with him and DD too!

DD wrapped DS's present herself tonight, and is so excited about giving it to him tomorrow. Made me all gooey She has got him a boy rag doll, and said it will be called Lucia but we compromised with 'Luca'...poor DS doesn't get a say in it.

Frizbe · 09/03/2008 11:19

Astro, Happy Birthday to DS Hope you have a great day.

dd2 ate the wax off half a babybel this morning I looked it up, its none toxic, but generally they don't recommend eating it why I don't know? because I trusted her to open it as she usually does and take the damn cheese out, as she usually does shame dd1 didn't shout me a bit earlier to let me know I was sorting washing up in kitchen, they were in living room.....sigh.....I had to peel the other half including wax out of her mouth Well I suppose you can only have one bright child right?

UniS · 10/03/2008 14:11

Had to LOL inside on saturday. Boys birthday tea, granny had spent ages making him a Thomas train cake. boy liked teh back end and tehshape and happily said choo choo, then she turned it round so he could see teh "face" and he cried and refused to have any more to do with the cake. still won;t eat any of it!

I survived invasion of teh In laws by going to work yesterday before they were up :-) and by ignoring teh shoddy washing up, things randomly put in kitchen cupboards tehy don;t belong in, whinges about our kitchen being rubbish becasue it has mainly high level cupboards, aout our house being too small and about dh being expected to do some of teh house work and childcare. Also ignoreing the way they bought boy a train set that is not compatable with teh train set he already has, because they didn;t think the duplo kit we had asked for him to have was big enough and couldn't find a bigger one ( in toys r us, which they seem to think is a good toy shop!).... grrrrrr. the whole point of extention kits in duplo is that they contain a small but fancy bit of track like points and ANOTHER DIFFERENT train. So now we have 2 thomas trains that need differnt size rails. still going to be arguments when he has a friend playing here.
On teh plus side, BiL found another largeish push along tractor so we now have 2 of those. Must talk to my mum soon and check what they discided to give boy ... or we could end up with 3 train sets.

Book start bag was a nice treat this morning at stay n play. Boy chose teh purple one and has started on teh drawing book already, comanding me to draw a bike and a tree for him to colour over.

Blowing a gale here at the mo. hope all your chimney pots stay on.

Astrophe · 10/03/2008 14:45

Happy birthday Uniboy!!! Glad he had a nice tea party - lol about the cake - althoughh sympaties with your mil as I know how long those cakes take to make. Still, she did insist didn't she? My DS had quite a Thomasy birthday too - a thomas dvd, thomas aquadraw, thomas plate a bowl...he does like thomas though.

Grrr about the train set - my ILs are the same. Last year we reqested some duplo to go with our existing duplo, they bought mega blocks . Hate to be ungrateful, but its sucks to fill your house with toys which ultimately wont get used, doesn't it?

Friz -LOL about your wax eating DD! Sure she is bright though...just experimenting!

laundrylover · 11/03/2008 09:10

Wow, have been away from MN for a few days and mised all the birthdays!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TERRIBLE TWO YEAR OLDS*

Astro - love the tractor cake - may be inspired to stray from the usual round one for Kiah!!

Just to let you know that after spending all day at the hospital yesterday I got the all clear on my lumpy boob. Mammogram was uncomfortable and needle biopsy was really horrible - made me feel sick and wobbly....but worth it all for the all clear!

Appt this afternoon for neck lump...

DP back and grumpy as hell. Hurt his thumb so it's all black and swollen and also looks and feels terrible in general. Like you Friz, I am not good at sympathy so we had a shouting match yesterday - oops.

OP posts:
Frizbe · 11/03/2008 23:17

Hope it went ok LL and its nothing serious?
we're waiting for dh's results here no news is good news eh! Did I mention his snip defo hasn't worked, he has another apptmt for that as well, decide what to do next kinda thing he's well annoyed, said they took a huge bit out, so he can't figure how its knitted back together, not a happy bunny

Astro your cake is great loads better than mine was, you're a very talented lady mind you, dh has a new phone, nokia like mine and it has leads with it, so if one fits my phone, I may get photos up soon! (dont hold your breath)
for great birthday weekend and lots of Thomas!

Uni for another good birthday weekend and more trains too. for you that MIL didn't listen though, its annoying when they don't. My mum did this the a few Xmas ago, I said to get a singing fimbles book for dd1 (when she was 1) mum got her a rolling roley mo, which she hated and was scared off, que me spending half of xmas day, going, I never asked you to get that, sorry she's scared with my mother insisting I had said that exact item
Hope your house is still standing after the bad weather, its starting up here at the moment, howling round the eaves.....

Frizbe · 11/03/2008 23:20

PS: don't wana jinx myself but dd2 has been dry the last 3 mornings!!!! (unlike dd1 )

Astrophe · 12/03/2008 00:33

Ha - DS is WET every morning, but we are still putting him in pants...daft? He is dry all night, then wees when he wakes up. Have ordered two absorbent washable bed mats, which will mean less washing. Might as well wash a bed mat every day as wash a nappy every day!

Good for your DD2 Friz! Fingers crossed!

LL - what news? Hope all is well.

Small boast: DD is reading!!! Just a little - small words, not really 'reading',as such, but can sound out the odd word - but I am very impressed with her and very proud. Will have to be purposely chilled about it though, as its tempting to start 'teaching' her, but I firmly believe its better not to push them. I hope this doesn't mean nursery are being pushy - I know many of the parents who have little ones starting school in Sept are wanting to see results ad are pushing the nursery nurses...

Speaking of nursery, DD came home saying 'shut up' the other day - I asked her where she heard it, turns out they had been watching Toy Story at nursery . Am I being a nutty hippy, or is that not on?

laundrylover · 12/03/2008 11:01

Well, my appt for neck lump was much quicker than boobs although I did have to have a camera up my nose -ouch! The consultant thinks my lumps (he found 3) feel just like 'reactive lymph nodes' and will need an eye keeping on them. Had bloods taken which will screen for any nasties and will go for an ultrasound scan soon and then go through results with consultant....just have to wait and see.

Friz, when will you DH know anything? Guess he must be super fertile to beat the snip eh??

Astro, I'm not keen on them watching TV at nursery really - don;t mind the odd cbeebies but would be pissed off at Toy Story. They could watch a film at home for free!

Tilly has started to learn words at preschool. Last week was 'look' and this week is 'here'. She is writing look everywhere which is great. Each week they have a special sound and the people whose name starts with it are special people. Then the kids take things in that start with the same letter sound - really works.

OP posts:
Frizbe · 12/03/2008 19:59

LL, well that sounds like good news so far then, hope it is nothing. Ouch for the camera up the nose, I had that as a child, and can still remember it now not a nice experience, did yours come with a pile of med students? mine did

Astro, you're a raging hippy! but your right, could do with them not being taught, shut up! Ours get the odd video at nursery, but only the odd one, so I'm not too bothered.

Yay for the learning to read girls, I'm not pushing it too much here either, as I know they teach them to read 1st at school and I'd hate dd1 to get bored and start causing trouble, because she could already do it (which she would) She does a bit at nursery too Mind you with you travelling Astro, when will dd start school anyway? or was she not due to start in Sept, if you were here, would she have been a Jan starter?

Astrophe · 12/03/2008 21:15

So glad to hear LL - let us know when the bloods come back.

Friz - I wouldn't mind if it were the odd 20 mins of dvd of kipper/bob the builder/angelina/peppa etc (btw, are you taking your DD1 to see Angelina Ballet?) - er...yeah, so I wouldn't mind if it were age appropriate, but I don't think Toy Story is really. I might choose to let them watch that sort of thing at home (they have Madagasgar, for example), but thats with me to screen it, and its my choice, not nursery's (just practicing for my email to nursery manager!)

Yay for your clever DDs too - aren't kids amazing?!

DD would be due to start in Sept if we were staying (although I wouldn't send her tbh), but is due to start in Australia in Feb 2010 - so not for about 2 years! Might not send her then either, we are thinking of home edding for a year, depening on...well, pretty much everything!

You out there Uni?

UniS · 13/03/2008 20:05

Flyin visit. HI> waves, runs around excitedly etc.

House is now on teh market! got to have HIP before it hits web istes etc, but when it does I shall let you ladies know so you can see what this house is like.
Up to ears with work both paid and vounteer. have christmas curry with lighting types on friday! we were all to busy at christmas.

All this potty training talk is scary. I was proud of boy till I read about you lot :-) he went and sat on potty and wee'd whilst bare bummed this morning. sprayed all over teh floor as well mind!
HAd visit to dentist today and the dady took him to rhyme time ( 1, 1st for daddy) Dh was off today and will be next thursday as well so I persauded him to take boy instead of me. I came home and did some paper work instead.
good news on lumps LL. hope all remains well. Friz- what are you feeding your dh, breast milk???
On which note, we are no longer breast feeding here, no feed for 10 days now, tho I'm having to express occasionally to keep comfy and lump free.

Frizbe · 14/03/2008 22:11

Uni, you've lost me there but congrats on getting the house on the market exciting times, yay!

Astro 2010 coor that's ages away! guess I'm so used to the UK's whamming them in school asap aspect eh

Waves at LL

Dd1 and I have been shopping tonight at the new westfield in Derby, our 1st girly shopping trip alone. Dd1 now has 2 new pairs of trousers in pink, two t-shirts in pink, pink leggings and a pink skirt her one exception was a brown hello kitty t-shirt, which I managed to sway her to, as she really wanted the 'orrible green my little pony t.......luckily she has better taste in sun dresses and will sway from pink slightly but I didn't let her buy any tonight, as too cold still.

SS has two new pairs of trousers, which he's not seen yet, and dh has a new pair of trainers (he never buys his own and we have same size feet, so easy to fit!)

DD1 most entranced by fashion show at the centre as well, sigh......but she did insist on going in Starbucks, to get 'mummy a coffee' so I've trained her well

Got home to find boiler broken and dh has still not done the ironing, due apparantly to dd2 playing him up (she was fast asleep )
