Glad it is over POTC!

Well, I have to say that Job Centres must be the most depressing place on earth.

Went in today for an "interview" where they decide whether or not I'm entitled to anything Not only was I made to feel small, but 2 of the advisors actually talked about me, in front of my face, about my childcare arrangements. Saying "she could work a weekend, she could do evenings etc" If it wasn't for the fact that I was feeling so low, I would've have def said something. The only reason I was there in the first place was because I thought HMRC should know that I'm not working, and wanted to check about NI contributions.

They really did talk to me as if I was thick They kept telling me that I have to look for retail work (because thats on my CV) and should make myself available for work at weekends. And the look I had when I said thats not possible was as if I was from another planet.

We could really do with some financial support while I'm job hunting as I have to pay nursery (have to keep the boys in nursery because there is now a waiting list, so wouldn't be able to put them back in iyswim)

And I have a form to fill in explaining why I left my last job before finding a new one
So bloody depressing

Pesha · 13/02/2008 20:53

Thanks Katy but I think its our copy of Word, even when I open a blank document it says it is locked Have managed to save it though by clicking 'save' rather than 'open'!! Will try and connect laptop to printer tomorrow and print it off (will do the mini eggs voucher at the same time - thanks Ange!! )

Its a very scary application form though, one of those 'using person spec please tell us how you have done blah de blah to demonstrate your skills in blah de blah and personal attributes and blah de blah de blah.....' I have done nothing and I have no skills!!!!!

StealthPolarBear · 13/02/2008 21:03

what exactly is the message?
runny at them. What idiots. Don't compromise on something that's important.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 13/02/2008 21:05

would love to join you all for a chat, feel that I've been a bit absent lately, I need my April girls fix

but having only got an hour at work today I have brought my audio typing thingy home with me so I can type the stuff at home.

after M's jabs we bumped into Skott at the garage, he was about to go to his gf's house (about 40 mins away by car) on his ped, which does 30mph max, in thick fog. needless to say I gave himan ear bashing before following him back to my house and driving him to gf myself!

meant we didn't get home til late though and I haven't got any work done, so now have to set myself to it

night all x

Runny Condescending twats

Pesha - You're a mother!! That just about qualifies you to do anything in my books - don't underestimate yourself honey. xx

runnyhabbit · 13/02/2008 21:16

Pesha - I bloody hate those person spec things. Just remember to throw a few good long words in for good measure

Dh is on his way home (been away for 2 nights) but prob won't be here til midnight
Do feel better since talking to him though. He is very good at building my confidence up.

Going for a bath now.

Take care sweeties
xx

Pesha · 13/02/2008 21:17

Ah thanks Dippy - lets hope the people giving out jobs think so too!!

Katy - says something about modification is not allowed as its locked.

cazboldy · 13/02/2008 21:19

I am in Norfolk Ellie! lol

you are a pushover re skott! x

Sexonlegs · 13/02/2008 21:26

Runny, sorry you had such a shit time at the Job Centre. Arseoles. Hope you have a happy time when dh is home.

Pesha, our application form asks for some drivel like that as well . And I echo what Dippy says, being a mother qualifies you to do anything and everything. Just think of all the skills you have to have - patience, time management, negotiation, communication to name just a few.

POTC, hope you get your work done.

Right, am off to bed shortly. Feel rough again which is annoying, as I have been eating healthily, taking vit C etc. As soon as I get sightly stressed (usually by work) I just seem to feel pants.

Anyway, hope you and your lo's sleep well, and see you tomorrow. xx

StealthPolarBear · 13/02/2008 21:27

I think that sounds like an error at their end pesha, but if you're happy to print it off and do it by hand that's probably easiest.
I quite like person specs, you can just go through and tick each one off, rather than an open ended thing. You will have more experience than you remember initially - and be creative!!

StealthPolarBear · 13/02/2008 21:27

night sol hope you'rte better in the morning

Pesha · 13/02/2008 21:46

SOOOOOO-OOOOOOOLLL - could I possibly send you my cover letter for another job I'm applying for? I'm feeling completely lost as I'm not sure I've ever had to do one before, maybe once but dont really remember! I've written something but not sure if its any good or not and I thought as you've seen my cv you'd know what sort of thing I should be mentioning.

StealthPolarBear · 13/02/2008 21:47

Don't whine young lady

Pesha · 13/02/2008 21:49

Oh but, but, but.....

cazboldy · 13/02/2008 21:51

Pesha - you sound like my dd1 has all day long lol

StealthPolarBear · 13/02/2008 21:53

night everyone

Pesha · 13/02/2008 21:54

And yes person spec does seem easier in a way in that its all there telling you what to write its just that it requires so much writing!!

And I generally feel very uncomfortable with the whole 'oh yes im absolutely amazing at this, that and the other and I'm fantastically skilled and adept and you'll business will fail if you dont give me a job because im just so damn talented'!!

But 'I'm alright and i'll give it me best shot like' doesnt really cut it does it?!

Pesha · 13/02/2008 21:55

Just one of the many things I've learnt being a sahm Caz!

NorthernLurker · 13/02/2008 22:32

dh got home ok and I went to my lecture - really enjoyed it! POTC - don't hate me - but Dan Snow is better looking in real life than on the telly!
B was fine whilst I was gone so all in all a good evening!

Will catch up with everyone tomorrow - off to bed now.

Dippy - praying doors will open tomorrow with your inteview

elkiedee · 13/02/2008 23:32

Where has today gone? Swimming this morning, about 50 minutes when we got home to unpack bag/buggy, put on a wash, feed Danny, answer a couple of essential emails and get ready to out again, met my dad in Finsbury Park. D's getting really interested in looking at the assorted birds there and in other parks, it's lovely seeing babies get so much more responsive isn't it. Then dp on late tonight and I just couldn't get D to sleep, finally settled him after 9.30.

I received a really creepy valentine today, at first I thought it was funny/a windup by dp, but the more I think about it the more I think ick. It's sent in the post by someone who knows my address but not my name. "To the sexy-young woman with the young child" "PS if you don't try you'll never know" on the envelope

In the card
I see you sometimes in the afternoon!
But if your single and looking for love!
If your married your husband a lucky man
Am tall dark and romantic (creepy more like)
Hi Sexy

If youll interested leave a big teddy bear in front of your frontroom window
One day I smile at you and say (?)

ugh my skin is crawling now

I might buy net curtains at the weekend, hate them but this is getting to me.

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2008 07:43

oh elkie that is creepy
Does sound like it's someone who can't think of any other way to talk to you though! Definitely get the nets!
I do agree it's nice that they're getting so interactive (babies not creeps!). T is currently dragging a chair across the room and stopping every few steps to look at me and laugh On the other hand I fought with DH last night and I think he knew it, was all subdued Could have just been tired I suppose.
Good luck with the application Pesha, is this the not-quite-so-good job?
Good luck for this morning Dippy!

Frankendooby · 14/02/2008 07:48
