Its the stuff that the shaggy hair guy is always doing on ready steady cook or in fact any programme hes on!

I think you just melt some caster sugar then you hold a wooden spoon (presumably over alot of newspaper!), get some of the sugar syrup on a metal spoon and whizz it backwards and forwards over the wooden one and it sets in long thin whispy strands.

Will look for a link for proper instructions!!

One of those moments when I'm glad I don't have anything to drink next to the computer at the moment. LW, When you've worked out how to make your cake, perhaps you should take a picture - I'd love to see it. And I also want to know why.

SPB - I'm the same! Although dp normally gets me wine from work now so its super cheap and i dont have to buy any anymore really! Thats the reason I'm with him!!

If DH buys me wine as a present I have been known to ask him if it was reduced

Its a 30th Birthday cake and as to why, well I wish I knew aswell. I was only making what I was asked to bake.
