I think when you start weaning you offer at one feed a day and still give milk as normal. Usually give baby rice then after a while add pureed fruit to it for an extra flavour eg apple/pear/mango you can try veg puree like carrot/sweet potato etc too, think you've just got to watch she has no gluten, dairy, citrus fruits, wheat, etc before 6 months. In the cup I think you can put cooled boiled water (tap water after 6 months) or put formula in it. Whole cows milk as a drink from 1yr although you can use cows milk to mix into foods after 6 months.. think you can start the cup any time after 4 months or so?
There's a free weaning chart you can download here it's a hipp baby food one but it gives you an idea and I think has tips on what they can and can't have...
Here's a link to the annabel karmel site too, there's some info on 'first tastes on there.
So excited for you, I can't wait to start giving Dylan food!

Hi all

Dal - a friend of mine has been bf her DD only morning and night for weeks now - her DD is 19 weeks - to no detriment to her supply as yet, so dont worry. Equally, dont stress if Dylan ends up just wanting the bottle. You've done brilliantly in keeping the mix feeding up and you should be proud!

I am officially a zombie... had a 24 hour vomiting/diarrhoea bug which was a nightmare- bf through that was fun as you can imagine. Also the sleep is just no better - we had one decent ish night - Weds - where she slept more than 45 mins at once (she woke every 90 mins until about 2 and then every 45 mins again - so not decent by normal standards but decent by hers) but otherwise every night it's the same story: 45 mins and that's it. I'm exhausted!!! and so is DH. Not helped by the vomiting thing...

I'm not going to wean yet - DD isnt that hungry, so she doesnt seem eager, and we've got quite a few allergies etc so not a good plan for us. And since she doesnt want to eat in the night it isnt hunger that keeps her up!

Hugs to all.

Hello all!
Hope you have been enjoying your weekends....
Dal - you are doing really well with the feeding! Like the others, I think your body will continue to make the milk it needs for two feeds a day, but if you are worried about your supply, this kellymom link gives you some tips on herbal rememdies to increase your supply. I have used fenugreek, you can buy it in holland and barratt, and it seems to work... Also, expressing when you would have been bfing during the day, and giving this as ebm should help too.
Ejt - sorry to have missed your performances!
Inzi - well done on Jane eating all that babyrice. I haven't started Olly on food yet, but i don't think it'll be much longer
Choc - i admire you for bfing through the bug - i am hoping that i don't have to do that
hi to everyone else!
We have not been doing very much this weekend, apart from shopping and eating! so i shall now get on with making wedding invitations for my sister-in-law and her friend, who are both getting married in may

ejt1764 · 16/03/2008 18:39

Hi all - what a few days!

The North Wales choir won the challenge, but to be able to say that I was part of the proceedings yesterday is something that I can take with me forever.

Totally exhilarating!

Now exhausted (but not as badly as you choc!), and have no voice left - our price for our tickets to the game yesterday was to keep the singing going throughout the game ... I think we managed quite well!

Right, am going to put madam to bed ... I may go myself soon too!

muppetgirl · 16/03/2008 18:46

Morning All
Those of you with LOs that suffer the dreaded reflux there is someone who could do with some advise here
bother Alex has just woken from early nap..I'll be back...

gemmamc · 17/03/2008 13:26

Hi all,
Choc - do you know why LO is sleeping like that? And the virus you had on top of that sounds like a nightmare...

My DS does the same. He's had a bad cold and now has a flare up of eczema so I've been assuming this is what's keeping him from sleeping more than 45 min-1.5 hours at a time but I am also starting to think it may have become a habit now. We are really shattered. I have been reading all sorts of books and material on baby sleep but I am reluctant to use any training technique until I have excluded medical reasons for his sleeping patterns...

Inzi - good luck on the weaning. I am quite keen because DS is also feeding very often and seems very interested in my food, but I am trying to hold off as much as possible. I might try to introduce some formula though, maybe in the evening.

Hello everyone else. Hope you have a good week.

muppetgirl · 17/03/2008 13:45

Hi all

Henry had 9ozs and then 2 large cubes of parsnip -so he was a bit hungry then?

He went to bed afterwards and I heard him screaming so I rushed up to find his blanket on his head and his leg hanging out of the crib having got stuck between the bars -looks like we'll definately be growbagging him tonight and putting together Ollie's old cot at the weekend.

FloriaTosca · 17/03/2008 14:24

Choc;you poor love...I had the tummy bug thing at Christmas, it is dreadful esp when you are bf...and I thought I used to have it bad with sleep until I heard about your and Stefkas trials...and now Gemmacs...at least Alex gave me 2 hours at a time, and I still thought I was dead on my feet! Youall ahve my admiration for your strength and persistance.

Weaning; I was determined to last until 26 weeks as Alex is just 2 days off 25 weeks and I thought I'd follow the guidelines to the letter, but Himself decided differently this lunchtime when he swiped a piece of my banana out of my hand, gulped it down and looked expectantly for more! Thank goodness it was the banana and not the ham toastie I had been eating just before it!
muppet at Henrys appetite...he's definately a growing boy!

oh no..got to go again..he calls!!!

Dalrymps · 17/03/2008 15:03

wow floria, lo helping himself to your banana, thats very funny

FloriaTosca · 17/03/2008 15:17

it is now! He was so quick and had swallowed it before I quite realised where it had gone!...I'm just glad he didnt choke!!!It wasnt exactly a tiny bit, it was about half an inch long and half the diameter of a medium sized banana.. fortunately very ripe so it squished easily..but not the organic butternut squash and carrot and parsnip I had intended being his first tastes!I wish someone had had the video camera though...my face must have been a picture!

Dalrymps · 17/03/2008 15:27

lol ah well maybe it's a sign he's not fussy , hadn't realise dhe hadn't atempted to chew it- oops! at least all is well, sure he'll love your organic butternut squash and carrot and parsnip too

FloriaTosca · 17/03/2008 16:06

Hope so, I just ordered it yesterday from the local farm...he can stick to banana until it arrives!
Right..I must go and phone the kennels to book Thane in ..he's never been in kennels before but my usual dog sitter has now adopted Thanes brother Boule and I cant see her managing two 7.5 stone male dogs when she only weighs 8 stone herself!...so prison for Thane it is!

Dalrymps · 17/03/2008 16:24

Oh poor Thane, I know how you feel, would hate to put Tess in the kennels, sure he'll be ok though

Mine · 17/03/2008 18:22

hello ladies

can you believe we're now all talking about weening!!!
DS is on one solid meal a day, or 'shmush' as i call it.... today we had apple and pear, tomorrow its potato, spinach and peas!! Yummy!

He seems to like everything, but prefers the sweet tatsting stuff as you'd expect.

at all your grabby babies!! Thats soo funny. Eren just seems to stare at everyone elses food, makes us feel so uncomfortable eating around him that we just can;t look at him!

Omigod - sorry everyone - my daughter has stolen my identity and appears to have been watching too much AliG!

Love the banana story !

Can't wait to start weaning now. Anyone else thinking of giving 'baby led weaning' a go?

Gotta go and save dh from over-excited and slightly hyper-active dd.

Getting v excited myself about meet-up on Wed!!!!

X

MrsFish · 17/03/2008 19:45

Ben is now on 3 meals a day starting today today he had..

Breakfast - 8oz formula and half a weetabix
Lunch - 6oz Formula and potato and spinach
Tea - 6oz Formula and stewed apple
Supper - 8oz Formula.

Starting next monday I am going to make some proper meals up to puree

ejt1764 · 17/03/2008 20:45

Mairwen is stil ex.bf ... now we've got this far, we're waiting til at least 6 months ... also thinking about going for the blw ... tbh, I just can't be @rsed doing the purée thing again!

Apricott ... am also v. excited about Wednesday ...

strawberrylace · 17/03/2008 21:48

I am gonna do baby led weaning - well that's the plan at least! So i have bought a high chair, so that we can all sit at the table together, and he can start to get interested in food (we are v bad and normally eat off trays in front of the tv ).

When I've been steaming our veg I've kept a bit out for him, so that he can hold it in his hand and suck it/play with it a bit - carrot and broccoli so far - again so he can see the texture/taste of food. But that's it so far, as he's still happy with milk, and i don't really want to start the blw properly till 26 weeks plus...

Hope you are all well! I have been trying to sort out all DS's clothes, as some of his 3-6months stuff is too short now, but i really need to get some of those vacuum bags to finish the job properly - a task for tomorrow i think
