Evening all

Really enjoying all the getting together and proposal stories - meeting both my love of gossip and a good happy ending !

Welcome Lucy10 (was that your name? I'm having doubts already and only read it five seconds ago).

Glad to hear about the test J20. Result!!

ejt - I don't do morning tv (it's on too early ) but I'll be looking out for you on Saturday. How exciting! Don't envy the early start though.

Reading everyone's stories made me think, when did dh propose? and tbh, I'm not sure he did as such. We met on the Guardian Soulmates site. I'd wandered on there one evening when I was rattling around the house on my own (dd with her dad), the site 'matched' our profiles, I liked the look and sound of him, so I cast aside concerns about the fact he was literally on the other side of the world and sent him a message. Our first 'date' (for which we both dressed up as if it was the real thing ) was by instant messaging. Pretty soon we were talking every day. I joked about getting research funding for a trip to New Zealand. Then got research funding for a trip to New Zealand ! We finally met in person about 6 months after we met on-line. He came over about 6 months after that for a month's holiday, during which he smilingly asked me if I realised that if we were going to be together we'd have to get married. To which I smilingly replied that I did . Then he went back to NZ .

Not long after he'd got home, he told me he'd been talking with his brother, and that B had asked him whether he was going to marry me, and he'd said yes! I didn't raise any objections - so I guess that was that.

Needless to say, he came back . We got married in July 2006. We must have first met in summer 2004. DS arrived October 2007 (but you know that).

Hi all - Alice HAVE A LOVELY HOLIDAY!

Mrs Fish - Do you have any ideas for an easy 'space' cake. (Rectangular cake with black icing and silver babubles pressed in seems a little boring...)

Lucy - Welcome! We are a lovley bunch and our thread is the best thread in the world I have 2 ds's Oliver is 4 (27th march) and Henry is 18 weeks this mon coming.

Ejt - I missed you on the telly!!

Inzi - Glad dh is back this eveing and well done for coping on your own

Nine -love the 'belly blanket' though I think I own the duvet version

Am just re-printing the invites to Ollie's party and are now just about to start with the easter egg hunt that we do in our street every year. We have 18 children doing it this year I will get dh to take a piccie of it so you can see -might wear the bunny outfit too

Dalrymps · 14/03/2008 15:03

Hey Lucy10! Welcome, great to have a newbie, we're all lovely friendly ladies, sure you'll feel right at home here . Whats your lo called?

MrsFish · 14/03/2008 15:27

muppetgirl, google is your friend, I get all my inspiration from there

How handy are you? Here are a few ideas ranging from easy to hard

cake 1

I love this one, too adventurous for me though cake 2

cake 3

cake 4

You could just buy a small rocket toy and spaceman and stick them on the top of a cake made to look like the moon?

muppetgirl · 14/03/2008 16:05

I have just googled 'spacecakes'

you can imagine what I got back!!!!

muppetgirl · 14/03/2008 16:29

this ones great www.icingandthecake.co.uk/images/cake-chil-birth/spacerocket.jpg

MrsFish · 14/03/2008 20:02

I know, that's what I got too

AnyasMum07 · 14/03/2008 21:49

at all the proposing stories. dh was going to propose somewhere romantic when we went travelling (we took 5 months and went all over the place). He bought the ring a few weeks before we left but then decided he couldn't wait and proposed on the spur of the moment one evening while we were putting together an Ikea bookcase!

Choc - hope swimming worked in getting Rebecca tired. Don't know how you're still sane after so little sleep!

Lucy - hello and welcome!!

ejt - only just read your post - missed your 15 mins of fame on GMTV. at early start though!

J2O - snot suckers from Boots, cost £3.something. They're actually called 'nasal decongesters'.

FT - don't know if you've picked up my email - sorry but can't do Monday as dh's other dd is visiting. Next couple of Mondays are good though.

lol at spacecakes.

All is quiet now - dd is asleep and dh is at some charity thing, so I'm having a quick catch-up. Anya's started rolling again like mad - but poor thing gets so frustrated and angry when she's stuck on her front. She's learning to sit very quickly - we've only done it a few short times and always propped up with cushions but she's balancing really well . She's been a bit grumpy the last couple of evenings - I think her gums are still hurting (can't believe how long it takes for teeth to arrive!) - but she's generally cheerful. I'm even starting to get some work done again - dh and my parents are taking her for a couple of afternoons each a week and I can do some work in the evenings after she's gone to bed, so that's a start. A couple of good work opportunities have fallen through though, which is annoying. Ah well, such is life.

Well, think I will go and do washing up etc before dh gets back, then feed madam. Good night all x.

FloriaTosca · 14/03/2008 22:07

Anyasmum;yes, just got your message and have replied. Sorry the work opportunities havent worked out..hope something better comes along soon.Well done Anya at sitting so quickly...hopefully see you soon-ish.

Stefka/Choc; hope things are improving on the sleep front (sending sleepy vibes to your los)

Was going to say more but Dh has forgone a night in the pub to keep me company so I had better go and be sociable....hi to everyone I have missed..

inzi-sorry you had a bad night, i had a full 6 hours sleep last night which was great, since i think i had less than that the last 2 nights put together!

Anyasmum-Shannon has started sitting up really well the last week or so too-its great isnt it, although we've had a couple of times where shes banged her head when she's thrown herself back and i havent been ready! i think i'll have to go get one of the snot suckers as she's got green snot going everywhere ewwwh!

Ft-hope you had a nice night with dh

today i'm going to make dd1 either walk or cycle to her dads, about 3 or 4 miles, while i walk with the pram. she is getting really fat, her dad keeps feeding her junk, one thing that apparantly he gets her on a weekend is a sour liquid sweet type thing that her grandma got her yesterday when i wasnt there, when i looked at it, it had over 850 calories in it and she'd eaten it all, so if she has one of those a day thats nearly the reccomended allowance for a grown woman a day! also he's been letting her have red bull, he has no brain!

so i'm trying to get her to do more excercise, also i could do to do some more excersise too, just hope it doesn't rain!

hope you all have a nice weekend xx

AnyasMum07 · 15/03/2008 10:26

inzi - sympathy to you and Jane - teething's awful isn't it, can't wait until it's over. Boo-hiss at the flight being late - that's very annoying. Hope your weekend picks up a bit!

J2O - I don't give Anya the chance to bang her head yet - she's still being propped up with cushions! She does tend to topple sideways after a while, sort of in slow motion though... Makes me laugh that she makes no attempt to stop herself .

I think I hear her stirring after a very long nap - she was up early coughing and spluttering today. Hope the rain clears up so we can go for a walk later.

Have a good weekend all x.

Dalrymps · 15/03/2008 12:30

hey everyone, it's the weekend woo hoo!
Had a nice rest this morning (sorry to those not getting a lot of sleep) Dylan slept from 12.30 to 7.am then breastfed and slept again till 10am
Breastfeeding not going as well as it was the last week, i'm slowly running out of energy to fight though, tried to get him on to ex bfing so many times and failed for various reasons... Last week he I was feeding him morning and night and trying to feed him every other feed throughout the day too which was meaning he was having anywhere between 4 and 7 breasfeeds a day in theory, except he was starting to fuss at a lot of his bf so would either not bf at all or just have a little bf and the just be hungry and have a bottle anyway... Now, for about a week he has been refusing to feed in the day at all and if i do persist the most i can manage is to get him to feed for about 5 mins then he's not interested anymore and again downs a bottle. Still feeding morning and night now but thats it, 2 bf a day... rest bottles. Now i'm a bit torn, I wanted to at least mix feed him till 6 monts but if he's only feeding twice a day i don't think my milk will last 6 more weeks.
I feel like I haven't got the energy to try to get him to bf more again cause he is clearly happy with the routine we have at the moment and enjoys his bottles in the day and enjoys his cosy morning and night bfing. BUT i'm worried if I do nothing my milk will stop soon and i'll regret that I can't bf him at all and it's before the 6 month mark.
Dh says not to worry and that i've 'tried my best' but I feel like if I just don't do anything I won't be 'trying my best'. As I say i'd be happy to carry on morning and night but don't think the milk will last sorry i'm just babbling now.
Any advice/thoughts greatly appreciated...
Sorry for the me me me post there.
inzi - sorry yur dh got back a lot later than expected, what a bummer, hopefully the rest of your weekend will go well
J20 at the redbull! I don't even drink that myself - scary!
anyasmum - wow at anya sitting up, sounds like she's doing really well. Dylan can pull himself up to sitting in a kind of sit up but has to be supported otherwise he carries on going forwards and folds up like a deckchair
Hi to muppet, lucy, mrsfish, floria, apricot, strawberry, mine, choc, ejt, stefka and anyone else I haven't netioned in person.
Bet alice is having a lovely time on the slopes , more of a hot toddy in a log cabin girl myself but bet she'll be doing plenty of that too!
Off to boots in town to pick up my free bounty bag now, catch ya soon

ejt; just been watching out for you but the daft director kept cutting to the players and Charlotte Church for some strange reason so I didnt catch sight of you but it sounded good (must admit that was the slowest rendition of "my hen laid a haddock" I have ever heard though)

hi all

like floria, i was most annoyed at all that footage of players and miss church and barely a glimpse of the choir and our ejt. cracking game tho. poorv huw was traumatised by noise in our house when shane got that first try.

sorry to hear of teething troubles inzi, and late plane.

dal- ifyou just feed twice a day you'll just produce enough milk for two feeds, it won't dry up until you stop altogether. I fed dd night and morning only for the last few omnths of bfibng. She was getting most of her calories elsewherre by then, but we both enjoyed the bfing and it was worth carrying on even at thst minimal level i thought. bfing now- sorry for all the typos.

one-handed typing too frustrating to go on.

take care sll xxxx

Dalrymps · 16/03/2008 13:09

thanks for the advice apricot, it was just that i thought seen as though my feeding has been all over the place my milk supply might not be as well established as some... and therefore not cope with the drop in demand and just stop, not sure how it works though, not sure how many weeks you have to have been bf fpr before your milk supply is classed as 'established'. Hasn't stopped yet though so guess it must be? Did some expressing with my electric pump last night and this morning just to make sure it keeps going, I think thats the only thing I can do, then feed him morning and night still and give him the ebm too, might even express past 6 months and use that milk in his food
