Hello ladies!

Well here is the new thread so I can link it before the old one runs out... Hope you all find it!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ChocolateHobnob · 06/02/2008 21:20

hi all

I'm here too! but DD refuses to let me come near the computer - she is mega smiley until we come near then she yells!!! Same with DH - she hates the computer. Oh well. I can only come on when she's asleep - which means it's a miracle I appear at all!

Another crap night last night so have been zombified today again. Fingers crossed for a good one tonight!

Alicet, Pizza Express again?! It's as bad as your Nero habit.

Strawberry good luck tomorrow. J20 hope the two little ones are okay. Muppet my foggy brain didnt understand what had happened to the jumper but it sounds bad!

Did anyone see Lorraine Kelly and the extended breastfeeding feature this morning? Interesting, though am ashamed to admit a penchant for trash television!

Off to sleep cos am zonked but good luck with going it alone tomorrow Alicet and hugs to everyone else!

ChocolateHobnob · 06/02/2008 21:21

edit I now get it muppet and it's really off!!! how cheeky!!!

FloriaTosca · 06/02/2008 21:31

Evening All
Alice; thanks for asking Alex had the best night ever!!!! Went to bed at 8.30 as usual and skipped his usual 1.00ish feed ... I had to lift him at 3.30 because I was so engorged...he had a couple of huff and puffs later (wind again)but didn't wake until 7.45!!!! I can't tell you how wonderful it feels!!! I dont expect the same to happen again but it is a step in the right direction. Choc, I hope you have the same miracle too And good luck with flying solo again Alice

J20; hope the los get better soon and you get some rest. I'll e-mail you my address but no rush...you look after yourself and have a fab time at Alton Towers.

tLES; I'm e-mailing you too

Muppet; I hope you get your money back that sellers attitude is shocking!!!

AnyasMum07 · 06/02/2008 21:48

Glad everybody seems to be having a good time with sleeping etc and is doing nice things (Pizza Hut, Alton Towers, etc). Muppet, hope you get your money back.

I'm going down to London tomorrow lunchtime for a conference on Friday - I really need to go as it's on all the new regulations for work, but I really don't want to. I'm sure I'll feel better when I'm there and I'll be kept busy so I won't have much time to mope, but I will miss dd so much. When I was burping her after her last feed I was explaining to her that I'll be gone for a while but will be coming back and I'll miss her loads. I nearly got myself in tears while she just fell asleep on my shoulder! I'm sure dh will cope but I'm having to restrain myself from giving him a long list of instructions. He's taking her to his other dd's on Friday so at least he'll have another pair of hands some of the time.

Anya's been fine after her jabs - she's on a couple of doses of calpol a day, just to keep teething pains and general post-jab grotty feelings at bay, and that seems to have worked. She was very smiley at playgroup this morning and blowing bubbles at complete strangers like some kind of village idiot. I had the news on this afternoon when I was feeding her and they showed a photo of somebody and she even grinned at that. I think she's practising her flirting technique for the next time she meets Adam .

AnyasMum07 · 06/02/2008 21:50

That looks really odd, not to mention a bit me-me-me - what are the chances of 4 lines beginning with the same letter?!

nellieloula · 07/02/2008 07:40

Hi everyone. Glad to hear that sleeping is improving for most and others are doing fun things.

We're ok - just! DH working, DD chest infection and Madeleine full of cold. She went down at 7 and did really well till 1030 (which to be fair was the earliest she's woken in days) then just wanted to suck for comfort - that lasted till 4 ish and then DS was up, crying and awake with bad asthma. Feel rubbish - the days are SO long when they start like this. Have to say I am so of those with LO's sleeping through. I know it's still early days and she'll find her routine at her pace etc, and she's still quite little so prob needs the calories - but I would love more than 3hrs sleep I've also talked to DH about seeing whether there is any way he can help out at nights - not really when he's up for work at 5 and not back till after 8....just tricky when there is no-one else around to help. I also remember from DS that sometimes it's just better to ride it out and that more sleep than you've got used to just makes you feel worse. I don't know. (repeat the mantra - This too will pass!!)

Spoke to the HV about the evening feed and whether to top up or give her formula - she basically said to try and hold out till I wean her....not sure about that. I missed the LK breastfeeding bit. What did they say?? I think anya mentionned it - would be interested to hear. My prob isn't really the sleeping issue, more that she takes so long to feed and settle - last night she was on for nearly and hour and a half ! Just don't have that kind of time with DS.....really not sure what to do.

right - better go and face the next 12 hours!! Sorry this has been so me me - that's what happens when you're sleep deprive and surrounded by the clingy, walking wounded! Have good days everyone.

FloriaTosca · 07/02/2008 09:01

Choc; we must have xposted last night, sorry to hear that she still isnt letting you sleep. I soooo know how that feels...but when the miracle happens, even if it is just one night, you feel like a new woman! I so hope it happens for you soon.

Anyasmum; I've filled up with tears just thinking about you having to leave Anya. With her dad looking after her she'll be fine I'm sure, it's you I feel for. I'm a wuss and just not ready to leave Alex for more than a couple of hours...bf is a great excuse; "I can't!" . Glad that Anya has come throught her jabs without a reaction, it means one thing less for you to worry about while you are away. Have a good trip, it'll be over before you know it.

Nellie;[sympathetic emoticon]You are absolutely marvelous, coping with 2 virtually on your own and yes only 3 hours sleep at a time is crippling...I have no idea of what can help with the length of time Madeline is feeding...all I can say is that Alex used to take 45mins-1hr to feed until about 12 weeks, then we had the horrendous chucking up fortnight when I think he was learning to feed faster (too fast for his tum to cope) and since then he has fed for 10-15 mins and usually kept it all down. On Tues he only had one night feed for the first time (at 18 weeks!)though last night was back to normal with him needing two again. I hope Madelines sleeping/feeding pattern improves for you soon. Is there no one around who could give you a couple of hours break in the afternoon so you can get your head down and catch up on a bit of rest, ideally from both los, but at a pinch perhaps just to give you a bit of 1 to 1 time with one or the other? Good luck...the mantra does help

alicet · 07/02/2008 12:59

Floria that's great! Like you say he will wake every 5 mins tonight for sure but at least you know he can do it and if it's happened once it will happen again!

Muppet at that seller on eBay. DOn't blame you for opening a dispute. Well well out of order. I'm about to open one too - the cooker we had ordered still hasn't arrived and I have mailed the seller 3 times asking what is happening since he told me the courier returned it as they couldn't find my house. Mailed them yesterday asking them to please just get in touch and tell me what is happening but that if I hadn't heard by today I would open an item not received dispute...

Nellie relaly feel for you honey. Adam not sleeping too great at the mo either. Occasionally get more than 3 hours between feeds but ont often. Dh does the late feed though (one advantage of ff) so at least if I go to bed early I can catch up then. Thinking of you...

Well we've had quite a manic morning - out at a toddler music group in the am then friends came back here for coffee after. Chilling now while both boys sleep in preparation for later! Thanks for good wishes...

Hi everyone

thanks for the nappy liner tips. winnie - that's really kind of you and if you're sure you can spare them and be bothered to post them that would be great. I'll cover the postage somehow or other. My email is: a dot perry at swan dot ac dot uk -we can exchange the necessary details. But, if it's any trouble, and you're regretting a rash post, just say so, I'll completely understand

Sorry to those of you with sleep deprivation. And post-jab trauma. Huw had his second jabs today. He fell asleep soon after and is still sleeping. Natuarlly, I'm on edge because this falling asleep during the day is uncharacteristic, not like him at all, so I've come to the obvious conclusion that the jabs are to blame. Determined not to let myself look up possible long-term side effects until he's up and about and seeming well again

He's slowed down weight-wise as well. No matter how little notice I take of these things, it's hard not to worry a teensy bit isn't it?! HV suggested rice if he's seeming hungry, but he's not, so I'll keep to breast milk for now.

Laters,

A xx

J2O · 07/02/2008 17:26

just popping in to say hi, dd's are still ill and i'm a bit of a zombie today, lo's eyes and nose are streaming and she won't be put down, even last night so i'm shattered, grr at all the ebay crap going on, hope you all get it sorted. just need to tell you all, i bought the most gorgeous dress today, its like a prom dress, reduced from £75 to £20-haven't a clue when i'll wear it but its just like a princess dress, may make dd have a princess party for her 8th birthday, its my mothers fault for depriving me of dressing up outfits as a child

thats about all my news for today, sorry to not respond to you all properly.

love to all xx

J2O · 07/02/2008 17:28

oh also meant to say, i went in town today for lo's photos and as i got there the photographer was leaving and a man was stood there telling everyone its closed down due to bankruptcy, ffs its twice this has happened to me now, they could have rung me to let me know so i didn't have to go out today grr.

strawberrylace · 07/02/2008 17:46

Floria/Choc/alicet/nellie ? don?t know how you all manage with the sleepless nights thing ? it really gets you down after a while doesn?t it? Thankfully DS and I have reached an understanding (!) that he will feed at 9pm ish, and at midnight-ish (when I go to bed), and then leave me to sleep until 6am.
Apricott ? I?ve found that DS?s weight has slowed down a bit too. Sticking to breast milk for the mo cos I think baby rice sounds nasty!!
J20 ? grr about the photos, but loving the idea of a princess party (sadly I don?t think DS would go for that?)
Anyasmum ? hope the London thing goes well. I left DS with his nana for the morning today while I went to a work meeting.
It was ok, I had the feeling they had all met again previous to me going in[paranoid emotion] but I have decided not to fight everything and go with the new portfolio of work (at least for 6 months). It?s hard but I can?t be bothered with a lot of the office politics now.
Hope everyone is ok ? we are off to my nephew?s christening in Brighouse this weekend ? I am going to be a godmummy!

ChocolateHobnob · 07/02/2008 17:48

hi all

Nellie, no advice but big hugs and I am sure Madeleine will start to go longer between feeds - Rebecca has - though it hasnt helped her sleep.

sorry about the ebay sagas.. I am a bit of an ebay novice; have only bought a couple of things and used DH's account. Hope you lot get yours sorted!

and hope the DDs are better J20.

I've been into town today to meet a friend for lunch and shopped. Last night was rubbish again and I am dazed with tiredness - please let tonight be a good one! Tomorrow she has her jabs..

Anyasmum hope you're doing okay - thinking of you. Floria, fab that Alex slept so well! I hope this success is catching... enjoy the two boys Alicet!

Dalrymps · 07/02/2008 17:51

hi everyone just a quick note to say i'm still here, manage to read the posts but finding it hard to actually find time to post myself! Still stressing about dylans weight, this week he'd lost 1oz even though i felt the feeding was going really well and he felt heavier?! Teething symptoms seem to have calmed down again for the moment so thats good. Dylan usually sleeps until 8.30am but woke at 6.30 today, hope it was a one off, although i can't really complain cause he sleeps 8hrs usually!
sorry for those of you who are having sleep problems, hope it gets better soon.
Hello to everyone, sorry haven't mentioned anyone in person but thought it better to post a short one than not at all, catch up properly soon

nellieloula · 07/02/2008 20:28

Hello everyone - thanks so much to all you lovely ladies who sent me hugs and support. I really appreciated it today and Floria, your message especially really picked me up I did get someone to come and take them both for an hour which was like an absolute godsend. Often, it's just having the headspace away from them isn't it? Anya - it is hard to leave them but it's also quite nice to have moments apart so you can think about them. Sure you'll be busy with work to come on here but hope your conference goes ok.

Dal, I really hope you can try not to worry about Dylan's weight gain - sometimes they go up, sometimes they go down. You know yourself when there is a problem - trust your instincts. Often easier said than done I know!

How is everyone else? Did you get the ebay misery sorted j20? sounds mad.

We had our second round of jabs today - bless her. she is doing well and I think most of the lack of baby friendly routine and eating pattern is just the realms of the second child unfortunately. I sometimes wonder if she's using night times to catch up on mummy time....not that she's ignored during the day - just often has to take a backseat. Dreadful but that's just the way it goes really. Let's see what tonight brings.

If any of you who are b/fing have a moment, would you be able to give me an idea of your routine? ie when you feed and when the baby naps? would be really useful and interesting to see how far off we are

thanks again for everyone's lovely wishes to day. have a good evening everyone

FloriaTosca · 07/02/2008 21:59

J20; love the sound of the dress but at the photographer, that is so not fair. I hope the los are better soon.

Strawberry; congrats on becoming a Godmother, I hope everything goes really well at the christening

Dal; I'm sorry lo hasn't put on weight...I know it is easy to say "don't stress about it" but you can't help worrying especially when you felt everything is going well...you watch, he'll suddenly put on a ton just when you think he's had a bad week just to wrong foot you again.

Nellie; so glad to have been of some help I'm b/fing exclusively (though I did have 2 brief attempts at baby rice a couple of weeks ago that upset his tummy and gave me no more sleep than normal)but we have no real routine...Here goes;Alex feeds at about 6.30/7 ish and again at 8ish, naps at 9ish.Next feed is about 11 (he often has one side, a half hour break, origionally instigated by me to stop the throwing up through over feeding, and then the other side)another nap at about 1.00, feed again about 2.00, nap at 4.00, feed at 5.00 and again 8.00 before bath, massage and bed (with final comfort feed) then we have the 1.00/2.00am and the 4.00/5.00 am before it all starts again...but all that is very fluid, basically we do as Alex demands

Just watched Ashes to Ashes ...I really got into Life on Mars but I'm not sure about this one yet. Well my bed beckons...have a good night all..especially those who don't normally

Mine · 07/02/2008 22:05

ejt1764 · 07/02/2008 22:29

Hi all,

have just come back from choir - where I've been filmed teaching everyboy the Marseillaise! I even had to do an interview afterwards - where I said that it was nice that now the Welsh-speakers knew how I felt when I'm learning the Welsh words ... the new series has started - it's on S4C on a Saturday night, and on a Sunday night with English subtitles ... see if you can spot me before the bit where I teach the choir!

Mairwen has been a real misery-guts these past 2 days - she's had D&V following the jabs ... I think it's probably a reaction to the pneumococcal jab ... she was ill with the 1st set, but sailed through the 2nd - and ill again with the 3rd set - and the pneumococcal jab is the common theme ... and now she's got a cold

Just say ... beware baby rice - it has no nutritional value at all: it just thickens the milk ...

I was going to say something else, but I can't remember ... oh yes, it took me until 9.30pm to get M to bed last night ... then we left her in her own room until she woke up herslef (at 2.30am), then she slept in the crib until 6.15am ... not bad really (although I was tearing my hair out with not being able to get her to bed earlier!)

Right, think I'm off to bed ... sorry for the me, me, me post ... love to all - I have your ebay sagas get sorted out alice and muppetgirl ... FT big hugs to you girl! Hugs and waves to everybody else!

strawberrylace · 07/02/2008 22:54

Dal - perhaps Dylan was just having an off week? Also, perhaps his teething was affecting his eating? so difficult sometimes when you think everything revolves round weight - DS is the smallest of all his friends and i always think i'm doing something wrong....
Mine - I am looking forward to the London meet! I will be there on the 12th - can't wait to meet you and the others
Nellie - our bf & nap routine goes something like this:
6.30am-ish - feed
9am-ish nap for one-two hours - this nap always happens
10.30-ish - feed
may get a nap about 1.30pm
2.30-ish - feed
may get a nap about 4.30pm
6pm - feed
possibly sleeps at 8.30pm
9pm - feed and then to bed
12midnight - feed and then back to bed
The afternoon and evening naps don't all happen - it depends what we are doing as to which one he has. Some days it seems that he is awake all the time, and so then he just flakes out in the evening. HTH

J2O · 08/02/2008 07:41

morning all [yawn, pins eyes open with match sticks]

ejt-how exciting! i agree with the jabs, Shannon has been worse with the 1st and 3rd, i think her immune system is lowered each time as she got a bad cold after both of them.
i'm struggling to cope atm i'm so tired, i'm hoping lo will go to sleep after i've took dd1 to school so i can have an other hour, i'm starting to worry about leaving lo tommorrow nighy when we go to alton towers while she's poorly, although sil said she'll be fine, i think they need there mummies when they poorly don't they.

sorry i can't remember what anyone else said x

ejt1764 · 08/02/2008 07:47

Dreadful night ... because of Rhydian, not Mairwen though!

Dal - here's our (basic) routine ... times vary a lot!

6.15am M wakes and feeds
6.30am - DH takes her downstairs - may top her up with some ebm just before ...
8am - back to sleep (in pram - she gets taken out to take DS to CM)
10.30am - wakes - feeds - plays
12.30 - nap - in bed if home / in pram if out
1.15 - wakes, feeds
3.45 - nap - usually in pram as I go to fetch ds
4.45 - wakes, feeds - she now feeds a lot between now and 6.30pm
6.30pm - bath, feed, bed (hopefully)

on a bad night - 7.30 - feeds, 9.30 - feeds - 10.30 - feeds

on a good evening: 10.00 feeds ... moved into crib by our bed at this stage

3am - feeds

Typing it out has made me utterly exhausted!

Am going back to bed! Have had to get with ds this morning - he has thrown the mother and father of all strops (at 5.15 ) because he was told it was too early to play ... I can see this evening being ... interesting

Have a good day - and a good weekend, everybody - in case I don't manage to get on here ... it's half term here next week, so my MN time will be even more limited than usual!

Waving frantically to everybody!

FloriaTosca · 08/02/2008 09:44

J20; ((((hugs))))It is so difficult when los are ill. Try to get some rest today if you can, and try not to worry..I'm sure your sil will manage brilliantly... the first day or two of a cold is always the worst and you have been there to see her through that, I'm sure she will be fine...it will do you a DD1 the power of good to have some "together" time. Enjoy Alton Towers.

EJT;waves frantically back Sorry you had such a bad night (didnt have the best one myself but nothing incomparison to you or J20 so I'm determined not to complain and look like a wimp)Hope you get a bit of "catch up" this morning. How exciting getting filmed I'll have to go on S4C on Sunday and try to spot you...I can't imagine singing the marseillaise in Welsh...(had a hard enough time learning it in french!)..but then the only Welsh song I've ever tried singing the was the national anthem; which I was taught as "my hen laid a haddock on top of a tree! so it was a very bad approximation...(I hope I haven't offended .. my welsh singing teacher was livid when I told him! but 2 of my welsh singing friends thought it hysterical)

A question...How much are our los supposed to understand at this stage?
Alex has started having a strop every time I put his coat on (no matter which coat) because he hates his car seat straps going on; if I say "we are going to walk the dog" or "we are going shopping" he keeps kicking, but if I say "we are going to grandmas" he calms down . He started kicking off in his gym 30 mins ago (normally nap time), I picked him up and tried distracting him with some songs that normally settle him but he carried on crying, yet when I said "Whats wrong? Do you want more milk?" he suddenly looked up and grinned, stared at my chest, grabbed my vest and pulled it down!....Surely this is just spooky coincidence or can he really understand already?

MrsFish · 08/02/2008 12:18

Afternoon all

Anyone else's lo started crying as soon as you leave the room, but are all smiles again when you come back in?

muppetgirl · 08/02/2008 13:17

Mine ? I?m still up for the meet up!

Mrs Fish ? Henry does this with dh. If I leave them he cries (H not dh!) when I come back he stops. Was worse when he was younger as dh now throws him up in the air which he loves and plays peekaboo with him. Dh is very proud that he?s the only person who can make H really laugh!

Floria ? I?m not sure how much at this stage but my theory is there has to be a time when they do start knowing what?s said so why not now? It?s the same with the baby signing, start doing it asap and although they cannot do the signs they will learn pretty quickly what the signs mean. I do ?Milk? with H already (Image milking a cow with one or both hands and you?re there!) just before a bottle. I?ll move on to ?sleep? and ?mummy/daddy? next.

Re the baby signing thing I have spoken to talkfirst baby signing lady and I?m going to watch a class next fri to make a decision as to whether I?d like to get involved and set up my own classes. She?s happy for me to run classes at home which really reduces outgoings so I won?t have to hire rooms, use petrol and lug lots of gear about. She?s also happy about me not being qualified to BSL level 1 just so long as I am proficient with the 170 basic signs. I would want to be qualified so would enrol on a course to teach me BSL level 1 so I could do that this Sept. She is also happy for me to teach with Henry being in the class. This is good as If I can only run classes when he is at home then I still can. Very enthusiastic about this so thank you very much Floria!! >>
