Dal;[sympathy emoticon]we've been getting this behaviour on and off for weeks though no real sign of teeth (Mum thinks his molars are moving down...who knows)We find dentinox gel helps and a neighbour swears by a muslin soaked in water (I assume boiled water and just a corner of the muslin) and chilled in the fridge for them to suck on, though we have 4 gel teething rings that we chill and use in rotation so havent resorted to the muslin yet...in conjunction with the calpol it seems to keep the worst of the discomfort at bay...hope it lets up for Dylan really soon

Mrs Fish; Sorry to hear Sam got such a fright My mil was complaining about something similar on cebeebies the other day...I didnt see it myself but apparently there was a trailer, right before my nephews fave programme, for somthing that showed a woman throwing a baby off a turret!!! mil says that the "trick" was it was just the blanket that she threw but my nephew is only 3yrs old and went ballistic and then had nightmares about it. I think if the trailers are not appropriate to the following programme complaints should be made.

Well Alex is a lot better this morning and after last feed and bed at 8.30 only woke for feeds at 1.35 and 4.20 and slept until 7.45!!!! As dh is away I went to bed at 9.30...so that is the most sleep I have had in 18 weeks!!!!(more than that actually because during those 3 weeks in hospital they woke me every 4 hours to check my blood pressure!)...I'm so rested I feel spaced out! Right I had better get his lordship dressed and walk the dog (in the rain )before Alexs swimming lesson (as he seems fit enough now to go to it).Have a good day everyone.

ejt1764 · 05/02/2008 09:15

Mairwen's thrid set of jabs have made her very miserable ... I was up with her between 1.30 and 3.30, then again from 5 til 6 ... then dh took her downstairs ... would love to go back to bed now (she's napping in the pram right now), but I've got a bloke coming round later to do a survey for cavity wall insulation.

Never mind ...

oh, and for those bf who are having problems with their LOs having teething pain (or gripey tummies), drink a cup of camomile tea 15 - 30 minutes before a feed - the camomile helps to soothe them - it's the same stuff as in the teethin powders ... the effects of the tea last up to 48 hours, so you don't have to keep drinking it if you don't want to.

love to all!

AnyasMum07 · 05/02/2008 09:26

Dal - can sympathise a lot! Calpol really works for Anya - the hardest bit is waiting the half hour for it to take effect. I've used bonjela as she's 4 months this week - I can't imagine that a few days makes a difference and I only use a tiny bit. Dentinox works too but only for a few minutes. Have tried the teething powders but only half-heartedly so not sure whether they have any effect, although I know people swear by them - Ashtons & Powers seem to be the favourite although I'm using Boots own. Teething rings don't help at all although chewing my finger does seem to relieve the pain.

Have a good day all...

AnyasMum07 · 05/02/2008 10:01

your wisdom and comments on this would be appreciated. Ta

MrsFish · 05/02/2008 11:02

Managed to get Sam to bed in the end but had to leave the light on outside his room

Well yesterday well and truly knackered me out and Ben slept straight through till 7.30 too, I actually slept from 9.30 till 5am, I can't remember the last time I slept that long in one go, even with Ben sleeping through I usually wake up every two hours. I still feel tired today though, feel like I am walking against the tide so to speak so not sure whether the sleep did me that good

I am going to start Ben on purees today, see if he takes to it as well as the baby porridge

I hope I have a little respite before the teething starts, I have only just got him sorted with his skin which is getting better every day, I am so happy and he is happier too

alicet · 05/02/2008 11:22

Floria delighted that Alex is so much better.

Ejt Mariwen is struggling after her jabs. At least no more for several months!

MrsFish glad Sam settled in the end. I too am totally whacked out after yesterday! Doesn't help that Adam woke at 10 (for dh although I woke too), 1 and took and hour to feed and settle, 3.30 (dummy) and then just as I had got to sleep 3.45 (dummy again) then 6. And he didn't go back to sleep after that!!!! So not feeling my best - will be another early one for me tonight!

Apricott just had a chance to see your link and it's very funny! Nice one!

Well Choc will be here soon for pre-baby massage lunch so best be off. Will probably be about to catch up later....

MrsFish - glad Ben's skin is getting better - long may it continue!

Can't believe we're all so exhausted from one day out . I'm sure there was a time pre-babies when we could cope with a trip to York without needing time off to recover! I didn't sleep well last night, which didn't help. Anya has a talking caterpillar (sp??) cot toy which I'd left on by mistake last night so when dh came to do her late night feed he must have knocked it and set it off. It sounds really loud at night, so dh was a bit cross. I didn't get back to sleep for ages after that.

Anya's had her jabs today - she was already crying in the waiting room because she was tired but screamed blue murder when the needles went in. Glad that's over with for a few months now.

She's been ok so far this afternoon but I have kept her well dosed up on Calpol. She has cried a couple of times when she's woken from naps but it turns out she's suddenly starving all the time - she had 8oz in one go at lunchtime - she's never got close to that before. Bought some baby rice today so we'll try starting that at the weekend when I'm back from my conference (away from Thurs lunch until Fri late evening).

Alice/Strawberry - thanks for comments on other thread. Would appear that YAIBU. Fair enough, I did ask!! Trying to come up with an alternative to please everybody - if anybody knows of any large-ish cottages available for long weekends in August can you let me know on [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/2414/472256?ts=1202232908350 this]] thread? Ta.

ChocolateHobnob · 05/02/2008 20:52

Hi all

Hope Anya is okay after her jabs. Sorry about all the teething everyone!

We had a crap night - wont bore you all with the details. Fingers crossed for a good one tonight...

Well I saw what Alicet has been doing with herself today - a fab train track for her DS1!

We also had baby massage (I didnt use the oil after DD's rash last time). It was fun as ever.

Bedtime for me, probably, since DD is actually asleep. Hugs all.

muppetgirl · 05/02/2008 21:15

Hi all

Choc -She's asleep???

Anyasmum - Hope Anya is okay after her jabs

Mrs Fish - I hope you get a repeat on the sleep!

Alice - I have sent an email regarding the meetup. I won't have Ollie!!!!

Well, we went to toddlar group at the gym and I met a lady that lives just round the corner so we swapped numbers and we're going to meet for coffee. Cooked raost chicken and realised I have 7 pints of milk and we get another 2 tomorrow so I'm in the process of cooking rice pudding to use some up. The house smells of nutmeg -Yum!

The dishwasher's broken which is annoying and our neighbour came round and asked to borrow out oil filled radiator (we had at our last house as Ollie's room was always freezing) as their boiler had just packed up. We'd just got it back from another neighbour whose boiler had also packed up. So in my street which is only 4 years old 3 boilers have packed up, another one has been repaired as it wasn't plumbed in (is that how you described boilers?) properly and ours has always been loud and clanky -a coincidence??? We're getting boiler insurance first thing tomorrow

Very tired now so off to bed...

Sweet dreams all
x

Hello everyone
have not posted for a couple of days now,so i hope you are all ok. have been keeping away to finish my youth work portfolio, ready for the moderation on thursday. and at last it is finished! so i can enjoy myself again. hopefully it will be good enough to get me my qualification...
DS seems to be doing well, though he is uber-dribbly all the time. What do you all use for your LOs to chew on? He permanently has his fingers in his mouth and they look so sore, so I want to try and get him chewing something else
See you all soon!

muppetgirl · 05/02/2008 22:12

Hi Strawberry - I have the bonjella blue thing you can stick in the fridge and keep cold. I don't need it yet but it's ready!

My mother used to have silver nugget that was quite large and all my cousins loved chewing it as it stayed cold and was hard.

Well done on the portfolio!

strawberrylace · 05/02/2008 22:16

thanks muppet - i am off into town tomorrow so i will look for the bonjella thing. it sounds nice!

FloriaTosca · 05/02/2008 22:25

Mrs F; Fab news about Bens skin

Anya & EJT; sympathise with the jabs ... its blooming horrible isnt it? I hope Anya is ok and has no after effects and I hope Mairwen recovers quickly.

Choc & Alice; sorry you both had bad nights, you're probably catching up on that lost sleep and wont read this until tomorrow... but I hope you get/got a better night.

Muppet; rice pud!!! I wish I was your neighbour! I think boiler insurance, given the history of the boilers in your street, would be very, very sensible.

Off to bed myself now..Alex slept for 3 hours after swimming this afternoon so I'd be surprised if we get as good a night as last night...here's hoping

muppetgirl · 06/02/2008 09:46

Morning all

Have just returned from taking my brave Knight to nursery -they are having a 'royal' day today. He took his shield but I managed to 'lose' his sword
I forgot Henry I left him in the nursery and promptly walked out!!! When I went back Oliver was in tears as he thought I had left Henry on his own I left another mum desperately trying to find her car keys so I think it was a bad day today!

I am sooooo tired today. Henry is asleep and I'm tempted to go back to bed myself. Have to tidy the house though and make another rice pudding as Dh and I ate the whole thing last night

Hope you got a good nights sleep Mrs Fish

Speak later
x

alicet · 06/02/2008 14:01

Feel free to send any spare rice pudding up to Newcastle muppet!

Well last night wasn't great except dh was a total star so I slept loads. Really really needed as I was really done in. Adam woke at 9pm for a feed which is really unusual so dh set his alarm for 1am instead of 11. Then I didn't have to get up to him until 6am and then he went back to sleep in bed with me until 9am! What a right result! Dh was meant to be in London today too and he has cancelled it and taken this am off as flexi time to let me sleep - after last night though I didn't need it so we have had a lovely family morning out instead. Now both boys are asleep, dh is catching up on some work and hopefully he won't need to go back this pm either as the stuff he needs to do can be done here.

Floria and Choc hope Alex and Rebecca slept OK last night....

Will poss be back later but at the mo going to take advantage of both boys being settled and chill out!

muppetgirl · 06/02/2008 16:26

I'm here Alice! I have a very tired Knight in the playroom crying 'I WANT MY DADDY!!!' as he's over tired. So I'm going to hang about here until he cams down

muppetgirl · 06/02/2008 16:27

...calms down!

ejt1764 · 06/02/2008 18:02

I'm here, but hsven'y got much to say ... or much time to say it in!

strawberrylace · 06/02/2008 19:28

Hello everyone (and esp alicet, muppet and ejt - i am here too!)
Been to the clinic today and DS is now 14lb 6.5oz, which is a gain of about a pound in 3 weeks. Which i know isn't much compared to some of the superkids on here , but its very good for him, and the HV was pleased.
I now have various ointments for him, to try and kill any thrush he might have, and the HV persauded the GP to give me a dose of Fluconazole to try and kill off any I have, as the antibiotics i got last week haven't done anything to stop painful feeding.
Made banana muffins this afternoon to take into work tomorrow - we have our big meeting about our portfolios which I made such a fuss about a couple of weeks ago. So I thought some muffins might go down well. MIL is coming over to look after DS while I am out, which I know she is looking forward to alot!
Hope you are all ok...

J2O · 06/02/2008 19:40

hi all

first time i've had chance to post, i had a bad night with dd1 and lo, they're both full of cold and kept waking each other up crying and coughing, and i've had my db and sil round for tea, as they're hsaving Shannon for the weekend while we go to Alton Towers, so i wanted them to spend a bit of time with her before i leave her properly.

FT-if you let me know your address i'll post them to you and just let you know how much it was if you want?

i don't believe it, lo just started crying, will be back later hopefully....

alicet · 06/02/2008 19:41

Hello muppet ejt and strawberry!

Strawberry hope your meeting goes well tomorrow...

We have been to pizza express for tea - off now to chill in front of relocation relocation! See you lovely ladies tomorrow although it might not be until later as it's another fly solo day and night! Wish me luck!

Grrrrrr

Have bought a gorgeous jumper/cardi for Henry and it is a shrunk jumper. She has washed it at to high a temperature and cut out the size label so you can't tell.

I emailed her to say I'm not happy but she says she's handwashed it and that it's fine. The wool is so tight now and the arms are too small for the size of the body.

I've asked for my money back but she said no so I'm going to open a dispute -I've never done this before!

strawberrylace · 06/02/2008 20:28

J20 - hope your DC get better soon, and that you get some rest!
Alicet - yum to pizza express...
Muppet - that's outrageous - honestly i don't know how people have the cheek to do that sort out thing. esp to other mums - they must know what its like
