Cam I've just seen that all UK holiday companies are cancelling Kenyan holidays. Does that affect you?

cameroonmama · 03/01/2008 13:58

Abby the Foreign Office are advising against all non essential travel to Kenya, hence cancelling the holidays. Also Mombasa is a hot spot where trouble can break out quite quickly. As far as dh and I are concerned our travel is essential as we need to get there so he can get to work so we will still go on Sat as planned unless it gets dramatically worse over the next 24 hours. Either way it is a worry, and I do think should I really be taking 3 small children into this situation but reporting can be overly exaggerated and we have lots of friends who are already living there who are managing with no problems.

Welcome back Creena

Mrsjaffabiffa · 03/01/2008 14:38

Worry Worry for you Cam.

Pebble glad you had a good time in Disney, h wants to go.

lg&t I can get Bepanthen here, I think the "spray on" one is a Mustella one, I haven't tried it as it's a fairly expencive range but I also have a friend here that raves about it. I'm using Camilosan at the moment and it appears to be working. Sticky stuff though. Ewwwwwwww

Mrsjaffabiffa · 03/01/2008 16:46

SKY

Fingers crossed for you sweetie.
I was lurking at the Due July 08 thread. You are due on Maddies Birthday.

Lupins71 · 03/01/2008 17:28

Hello and belated happy new year to everyone

lgt sorry you were poorly

AM dp said if i dared watch TT he would spend the evening upstairs - and tempting as that was I had to admit he was kind of making an effort - am hoping it will be repeated, glad the boob is ok, how is daisy

CAM hope things settle down in Kenya for you all looks pretty scary

I am going to cry soon, I went to the docs to talk about me being a horrible old bag and I happen to mention that my right hand was showing signs similar to the carpal tunnnel when i was pg, she said "stop playing your nintendo ds" arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my poor little wilbur, we just won our 1st competion together, she did say i could try playing left handed so i will have to try that dont really want to sell it as its great, must say i dont get much reading done at night atm, I have also got some pills for my period pain - some sort of strong anti inflammitory, she said i probably have loads of scar tissue that is causing the pain, have also changed pmt pills yet again, am now on the same ones as dp, fingers crossed these will work

Wheres the snow????????? I want snow [spoilt child emoticon]

MKG · 03/01/2008 17:51

Well today is the first day in a while that I've gotten up, dressed, ate breakfast and did everything I needed to do and still made it home in time for lunch. These winter months leave me so lethargic. I hope that this trend will continue, because I've been in a funk lately. I think it is the lack of sunshine.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 03/01/2008 18:50

SKY sorry, that was meant to say August 08. doh!

lol Lups at the RSI for playing your ds.

AbbyLou · 04/01/2008 11:01

Morning all, it's quiet on here this morning. I'm trying to juggle playing, school work and house work at the moment. I think I've just about got the school work sorted now. Everything I need to do I have done, now it's just the things I could do with doing but they're not absolutely essential!
I'm off to the dreaded playcentre this afternoon so C can let off a bit of steam. I'm meeting up with 2 NCT friends from classes the first time round so their oldest ones are the same age as C. Funnily enough one had number 2 4 weeks after I had had R and the other had number 2 3 weeks after that so they will all grow up together which is lovely.
My dn started big school yesterday. When I spoke to my sister she said Millie had had a bit of a wobble but had managed not to cry. My dsis on the other hand stood and watched from the cloakroom with a lump in her throat! Good job her dad wasn't there, he would definitely have blubbed! C starts Nursery next Tuesday at the school where I work so he will be there every morning for 3 hours. Usually the cm will take him and collect him but dh is taking him on the first day. I'm not sure if that's the best thnig to do but it seems right. He looks so cute in his little school jumper. They don't have to wear uniform in the Nursery but most do, it saves getting their other clothes covered in paint and glue! C won't be wearing the full uniform, just the jumper and his normal jeans.

FurtivelyPosting · 04/01/2008 11:36

Cam - another one here who's worried for you. You and DH will know what's what more than me, though. Might be worth keeping on eye on the situation before you go tomorrow - I know that the BBC news website keeps updating its content on the this fairly regularly throughout the day. If you do decide to go, will be thinking of you.

All's quiet here at the moment. I'm due to go back to work in February but I'm dreading it - absolutely dreading it. I really don't want to go. Whenever I think about it, I have a bit of a wobble. God knows what I'll be like when it comes to my first day back. I've asked to go back part time and they've asked me to meet with them next Friday to talk it through. I plan to go back 3 days a week. DH works from home one day a week and has said that he'll look after C on that day and do his work in the evening instead. That way, he'll only have to be at the childminder's for 2 days a week. I guess I'm lucky in that I can work from home a fair bit and the childminder only lives arounf the corner - it'll only take me 5 minutes to run and fetch him at the end of the day, which will be lovely.

Hopefully we'll get our house sold soon and will move - then we can get cracking on ttc properly!

cameroonmama · 04/01/2008 15:20

Here we are and stay until Thursday... After tears, soul searching and sleepless nights, we have decided to postpone until Thursday when hopefully things will have calmed down. Dd and ds school is not now opening until the 14th and its difficult to move about and buy the necessary white goods/food/fuel to stock up our new house.

Luckily our inlaws have been great and are happy for us to stay longer. I now need to hire a car and work out some things to do to entertain the dc next week while everyone is at school.

I am usuallly a very strong person but the whole thing has been emotionally draining both worrying about friends and the situation in Kenyan and worrying about our move. To add insult to injury the weather there is perfect at the moment

Thanks for all your kind words and support, we shall get there in the end.

AbbyLou · 04/01/2008 15:26

Oh Cam, what a nightmare this must be for you. I really do feel for you and your family. Here's hoping things are resolved a bit soon and the situation becomes less volatile.
Well, we managed 3 hours (!) in the playcentre. C was an angel. He ate his dinner nicely, played nicely and had a lovely time running around with all his friends. It was soo busy in there and noisy too but I've survived and we're all back having a quiet rest now.
FP it is scary going back to work and must be harder if you leave it longer. I went back full time when C and R were both 5 months and I've got used to it now but it was hard at first.

Mum2G · 04/01/2008 16:29

sorry to hear that your plans are on hold Cam - hopefully it will be all systems go very soon!

Been working today but at least it is mostly from home, bit hard getting the brain cells back in gear after the xmas break, i start getting excited around about now, as i know G will be home from the childminders soon!

brushed his tooth for the first time with his new toothbrush this morning, he ate the toothpaste, very cute! He slept from 7pm til 8 am last night! He was waking several times in the night last week, but the times were random so i reckon it was hunger - does anyone else find it is a fine balence making sure they has enough milk to drink but not so much that they won't eat their solids?

Hope all sore bots get better soon, g's is a little, but not too bad - touch wood

Have a good weekend all!

mom2latinoboys · 04/01/2008 17:06

It's me MKG I'm just trying out a new name. Let me know what you think.

cinnamontam · 04/01/2008 17:14

Hello all

Oh Cam - I'm so sorry you guys are stuck in such a maddening limbo land. My cousins are on holiday in Kenya at the moment (the family owns a house in Malindi) and they said the most difficult thing at the moment is there is no food so they are going to go to Zanzibar or Tanzania instead to finish off the holiday. They too were waiting for the rally that should have happened yesterday and is now next Tues to try and get a feel for how things were going to go. Thinking of you guys and hoping all your friends there are ok.

Nice work MKG - I struggle most days to get out of my PJ's to be honest. I've tried making a rule that I must at least change but sometimes it's just too hard.

AprilMeadow · 04/01/2008 18:14

Hey Creena good to see you back on line.

Cam, i wish you were just down the road and then you could come play here.

Pebble so pleased you had a good time at Disney. I wish we had done something like that.

Been work clothes shopping recently as am back to work week Tuesday. Got some really nice things that are in FASHION

Totally hectic here with lots of things going on. Hoping to be less stressed by the end of next week

Hello to everyone

Lupins71 · 04/01/2008 19:04

hello everyone

Cam glad your not going anywhere just yet I have been worrying about you, what a nightmare situation for all those poor people over there, its mad how it has all gone so wrong so quickly

AM did the other clothes go back then lol hope you got some nice bits, mum is taking me out shopping on tuesday, i have told her i dont have a penny to spare and she said well i do so we're going, should end up with a few nice bits then

Did anyone get snow?? we didnt, well we did but if you blinked you would have missed it

My poor little man has 4 teeth cutting through, his poor gums are red and sore, have loaded his mouth up with anbasol seems to be doing the trick, we were up for about 4 hours last night so i hope it works

Why o why do they go and reduce all the chocs and biscuits in the new year so that i have to buy and eat them!!

anneme · 04/01/2008 19:19

Nice name MKG!
Cam - poor you but probably worth waiting and seeing - it is amazing how quickly things change in these situations (both positively and negatively). We used to live in Zimbabwe and it is amazing how life goes on despite what one hears on the news.

Teeth - I hate them. i am back at work on Monday and, so far as I can see, S is cutting all his teeth at the moment but only between the hours of 2.30 and 7. Humph. I am going to be a great addition to work.

juliewoolie · 04/01/2008 21:03

Helllooo lovely ladies. Happy New Year! Have had no internet all week its like my right arm has been chopped off.

Cam so glad you have not gone, have been worrying about you all week and am glad you are hanging on for a few more days.

Sky any news yet - hoping its all ok.

Had a scan today to find out how far along etc. Am due August 14th. Thank god the way my tummy looks I thought I was about 4 months gone already - so obviously its just all the roast potatoes I eat over the chrimbo period.

Right off to go and properly catch up.

Pebblemum · 04/01/2008 21:14

Cam Glad you are staying put a bit longer, have been watching the news and thinking of you. Hope it all settles down soon

MKG like the new name although it will take a bit of getting used to

AM this was only the second time i have gone away Christmas time but i loved it. Missed my mums birthday which i was sad about but my dsis was on hand to give her my present and I had flowers delivered so it wasnt too bad. We are now looking into what to do this year, it will either be somehwere with snow or a cottage with open fire in this country. MIl is on the case so im sure she will find something sitable for all of us lol

Oh how i miss the days when Alana would just sit still where she was put She moves so fast, I left her alone while i took a cup into the kitchen and within a couple of seconds she was out in the hall The boys are also getting annoyed that everytime they get a game out she decides she wants to play too

Our pushchair broke while we were on holiday so I have to look out for another one. I still have the Babystyle 3in1 but its not very practical for bus travel or getting in and out of the car. Not sure what to get yet but im sure i'll have fun looking

anneme · 04/01/2008 21:35

Pebble - I have been trying to make the point to DS1 that S will be on the move soon and all those little bits of playpeople etc will be disappearing! I guess he'll learn!

Sky - I hope things are ok.

LG&T - hope the cold is better.

MrsJB - nice kitchen - when are we all coming round for supper?!!

I have had a thread running about my BF's D(?)H who hit/pushed DS1 when we were round there on New Years Eve. Still feeling a bit wobbly about it all because I thought that DS1 was the one who had done something wrong and so I let him down by not realising that it was the grownup who was in the wrong. However, have had lots of good advice from MNetters and am feeling better.

MarsLady · 04/01/2008 21:37

cooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee 12yearanduptheduff again... could you email me please? I'm so tired that I'll forget and we need to talk dates. yawn!!!!!!!

AprilMeadow · 04/01/2008 22:40

Yay Julie congrats on the due date How cool that you have seen your bean already. How many weeks does that make you? And just because you have an edd doesnt mean that you can bugger off to the AN threads!

FurtivelyPosting · 05/01/2008 11:05

Howdy AM! I'm back to work too next month and one of my main worries is finding clothes that a) look nice and b) actually fit me. It's been so long since I wore anything that was in fashion (the last time was probably when I was pregnant and smock tops were all the rage - that was more luck than anything else though)! God, I hope I win the lottery or something before February so I can stay at home with Conor (and live in jeans).

Julie - congratulations! A lovely August baby! How are you feeling? Any morning sickness or anything?

Pebble - wow at Alana! She's crawling already - she's so clever!

Cam - I know it's incredibly frustrating being stuck in limbo as you are but it is the wisest thing to do for now. Hope everything works out for you.

MKG - liking the new name but I think I'll end up always calling you MKG!

largevirginbirthandtonic · 05/01/2008 12:51

Julie my birthday is 20th August so i vote that the day she will most likely be born on I say she cos i have a funny feeling...

Clothes...fashion pmsl. I am still a stone over so fit in to presicley nothing

latinomommy good name Will take me a while to get used to it though.

Aneme poor you and poor little LO, hope it is resolved now.

12yearlady where are you?

SOH where are you too??? You have had a birthday and everything, show yourself.

Cam i'm sure it is the best thing to do, tis only a week to wait. Hope you manage to get a car and get out. Come for a visit here if you like?

I have not been bf for about a month and have no af, neg preg tests and am sooo frustrated!

mom2latinoboys · 05/01/2008 13:18

LG&T, I'm with you on the no period. I've been bfing maybe once a day for a month now and I figured I would get my period, but nothing.

Well Cruz decided that he was going to get his butt in the air and stand on his tippy toes. I told him that he shouldn't try to grow up so fast, but this little guy is so determined.
