Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

We are 11 days in...!
How is everyone doing?

It’s funny how dh who has always been an insomniac suddenly needs his 8 hours!
I’ve been up with the baby all night and have just brought him upstairs. Dh briefly woke up . Said ‘ I’m sooooo tired’ and promptly went back to sleep. Angry

forevercurious · 08/01/2020 07:54

@Fivebyfive2 he’s now 5 weeks, the past few nights we’ve begun to introduce a bedtime routine in that I take him upstairs about 9:30, put him into his swaddle bag, bedtime feed and then into his basket which is working well, he then goes 3 to 4 hours initially and then tends to wake up every 2-3 hours after that. He hadn’t been properly waking in the night, just stirring so was fed and winded and put back down which worked the majority of the time. However last night he was wide awake for almost 3 hours between 1 & 4 and was awake again at 5 but only for a few minutes! I’m hoping he’ll sleep today so I can fit in a nap. I’ve heard lots of people talk about the baby getting in their own routine about 6 weeks so I’m holding out for that - also thinking about introducing a dummy at 6 weeks but as he’s breast fed I’m not sure!

Glad some of you got a good chunk of sleep last night :)

Spam88 · 08/01/2020 11:45

Mine did not sleep for 4.5 hours last night 😂 were getting nowhere with him going down in his cot. On the plus side, I'm getting in record amounts of tv watching overnight.

Fivebyfive2 · 08/01/2020 12:14

@forevercurious, that sounds like things are falling into place 🙂

@spam88, omg I'm watching sooo much telly! Thank god for Netflix 😂

It's been a very messy morning!! Joe decided he wanted to spend it dribbling, whizzing as I changed his nappy and then doing a giant poo as soon as I had the new nappy on 😂 Finally got him all clean, changed and feeding... Bath time later, waiting for my mum though, I'll need backup 😳 How are you guys getting on today? Xx

Fivebyfive2 · 08/01/2020 18:44

Ladies, some advice please!!

We're debating leaving Joe with my parents for just a couple of hours this weekend to try it out and have a little break... I'm not sure! Feeling a bit guilty about even thinking of leaving him?! He'll be a month old and will take a bottle. Would only be for a couple of hours and they're only around the corner. I'm torn... Really feel like a little break would be good for us but I'm worried it's too soon?? What do you think? Xx

Comps83 · 08/01/2020 18:59

Do it! Like you say you won’t be far and will be at the end of a phone

forevercurious · 08/01/2020 19:01

@Fivebyfive2 I think the decision of when to first leave your baby with someone else is such a personal decision. If you and your partner feel you’d like a break and will benefit from doing so then you should go ahead assuming Joe is with people who will care for him well which I’m sure they will. Personally I’m not ready to leave my son but everyone is different - do what’s best for you and your family!

TTc2019BabyNo1 · 08/01/2020 19:12

Hi All,

Wow 4.5 hours sleep! I’m very impressed! We’ve had a bad few days, she’s been feeding non-stop so I haven’t been able to put her down. Then when she does eventually fall asleep, she’ll wake as soon as I put her in the Moses basket and scream 🙄. The reflux seems to have gotten worse so we’re trying Infacol at the moment. I hope it helps!

Yes the lack of routine is so hard! I’ve not been able to leave the house because her feeding routine is taking hours, I don’t know when she’ll want feeding so it’s hard to plan anything!

Anyone expressing so you can bottle feed too? I’d like to do this but haven’t had the time to actually sit and express enough to build up a stash. Anyone know the best way to go about doing this?

I'm expressing enough for one bottle a day just so I can have a few hours of uninterrupted sleep in the morning. Using a hakaa/naturebond type pump so you just pop it on the other breast while you're feeding. Takes 2-3 feeds for me to get enough for one bottle. If you're wanting more than that then you'll need to look at an electric pump probably, although I'd still suggest doing it whilst feeding (if you have enough hands!) so you get the benefit of the let down.

Comps83 · 09/01/2020 05:05

Yeah so the 4.5 hours last night was a total fluke

Comps83 · 09/01/2020 14:37

And now my mother is dying . You could not make this shit up! We haven’t spoken for over a year due to on going issues but I’ve just been to the hospital.
Think I will have to resort to formula feeding soon as he’s going too long without feeds sometimes and I’m not eating and drinking enough .

forevercurious · 09/01/2020 15:28

Flowers for you @comps83

TTc2019BabyNo1 · 09/01/2020 15:55

@Comps83 I’m so sorry. Look after yourself x

Trying to express for 1st time
Feels like it will take a week to fill the bottle

Comps83 · 09/01/2020 18:55

She died just after I got home
Heartbreaking thing is my grandma didn’t make it on time
She didn’t know she had died and barged into the room and thought she was just asleep

December2019 · 09/01/2020 21:04

@Comps83 so sorry for your loss sounds like your having a terrible time 💐 for you xx

TTc2019BabyNo1 · 10/01/2020 08:22

@Comps83 I’m so sorry for your loss. It must be so difficult for you at the moment. Don’t be afraid to ask for help! X

@Comps83 I’m so sorry for your loss.

I feel guilty posting on here now as my situation seems quite selfish and trivial in comparison so I do apologise in advance.

My DD is now 5 weeks old, she’s my 3rd child. So far she’s been so relaxed that I barely know I’ve got her. Which is great as I have 2 primary age boys too so when they’re home it’s busy busy.

I’m really struggling with things to do during the day while my other children are at school. I know from previous children there’s plenty of groups/clubs to go to but realistically this will only apply from about 4-6 months and up.

I never thought I would say I’m actually bored on my maternity leave ShockConfused is anyone else in the same boat?

I’ve got OCD so my house is spotless, again I never thought I would say that.
I’ve even resorted to doing tasks I’ve put off for years such as sorting/combining pension plans, deleting 900 junk emails etc! Help!

Comps83 · 10/01/2020 10:55

Oh please don’t feel guilty for posting anything
I’m more stressed about keeping him fed and other baby related issues than anything else
I managed to get 4 hours sleep last night as dh stayed up and fed him my expressed milk

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 10/01/2020 12:30

Does does anyone else's little one move around whilst breastfeeding and ruin their latch?

It's so frustrating!!

TTc2019BabyNo1 · 10/01/2020 13:34

@Originalusernameunavailable blimey, I wish I could help here but I am in the complete opposite boat!!
My 3week old will not let me put her down! The days have passed by so quickly without me actually achieving anything!! The house is a state, I miss my dog walks, I can’t shower! Feeding/winding/changing takes hours on end that the days just pass me by!
I am very jealous! Perhaps you could just go for walks and meet friends if there are no groups?
Failing that you can always come and clean my house 😜!

OP posts:
Comps83 · 10/01/2020 15:52

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps yes, sometimes he does this wild head flinging head butting thing at my boob

Fivebyfive2 · 10/01/2020 16:31

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps, yep!! In fact, @Comps83, Joe does exactly the same 😂 He also tries to almost burrow into my boob with his fingers when rooting, I call him my little mole!

@Comps83, how are you feeling sweet? I'm sending my love! Xx

So we've decided not to leave Joe this weekend... Instead we're gonna wait another week or 2 and then mum and dad will come to ours while we go to for a meal at a place that's a short walk away, just for an hour or so to see how we get on. Then we'll gradually build things up. Think dh is a bit disappointed, he was looking forward to 'having the house to ourselves' but will just have to wait a bit! All is fine 🙂

Anyone else got weekend plans? Xx

Comps83 · 11/01/2020 04:56

Argh
Dh just came to wake me up for my baby shift
He said he’d given him 2 portions of formula! Not sure how I feel about this. We had discussed formula but I was just going to keep going with the breast .

Comps83 · 11/01/2020 04:58

@Fivebyfive2 I’m not great tbh. I’ve just posted on the bereavement board. Very mixed feelings
