MrsGolfPro · 30/06/2007 21:42

Oh bloody hell and here was me thinking I was being healthy.

MrsCarrot · 30/06/2007 21:46

yes, sweeteners to be avoided in my book, but hey everyone's different

god he is crying now, must go

Dragonhart · 30/06/2007 22:21

Aspartame is evil!!!

I give Luke natural yoghurt. He loves it!

IsItPimmsOClock · 30/06/2007 22:42

Dragonhart - I'm Helen on msn! Have you been talking to my dh? he's been using my laptop this week and asking me who "all these people are?"

Dragonhart · 30/06/2007 23:20

No- not guilty . I dont seem to be able to nickname anyone so am having to remember names. My poor post preg brain cannot remember!

smallone · 30/06/2007 23:38

Glad to see someone else is on at this ungodly hour. Just finished watching Dr Who (closet fanatic) and am too hyped up for bed. Keep thinking I should go tho coz dd may have horrendous night just to teach me a lesson!

smallone · 30/06/2007 23:53

Ah being dragged off to bed now by DH, I'm definitely an unsweetened girl. Try to stay clear of sugar for health/teeth and can't stand the taste of artificial sweeteners - they make my teeth go curly!

Night night....yawn.

Dragonhart · 30/06/2007 23:59

Night smallone. Off to bed too now. God knows why I have stayed up this late when I was going to bed at 1030 to get a good night sleep while dh was away!

RGee · 01/07/2007 09:39

Morning.
Another day, another tooth. Front right has appeared.
Am heading off to London shortly for work meetings and an event. Am hoping I get there in one piece due to the flooding.
Catch up with you all later in the week.

LadyTophamHatt · 01/07/2007 09:48

My whole family thinks I'm insane with my ranting about aspartamine.

I would rather my teeth rott than eat/drink that stuff!

Never ever give it to the boys.

IIRc breast cancer rates increase but 70% when it was made a legal sweeetner in america(in the 70's I think). Sorry it be so vague butthe stufff is EVIL!

Dragonhart · 01/07/2007 10:03

Right I am now addicted to Facebook. I blame MrsGolf and Jodie.

Anyone else on it? I need more Facebook friends!!!!

Dragonhart · 01/07/2007 10:05

Congratulations Rgee! Have fun.

Shimmer · 01/07/2007 10:19

Morning all. Happy 1st of July everyone. The one where all the LOs turn 6 months (apart from those Feb babies...)

Gosh (I did start with "Oh jesus" then , but I erased it as thats bound to offend someone...) I feel a bit guilty for giving F that Petite Filous now! Well, he loved it and I've got a whole load of them now, so as Mrs GP says in moderation they're probably okay And he eats lots of healthy stuff apart from them.... look at me justifiying myself, humpf!

freddie does exactly the same thing with cucumber and other fruits/veggies, stuffing the whole thing in his mouth! I was very worried at first, but i do think he's getting better at it and is gagging less. And even when he's got what seems like a GINORMOUS piece in his mouth he seems okay with it and just spits it out after a while. Though that story of the girl choking on the apple is very scary Jodie. As you say, you just can't leave them alone even for a second.

Loosh I've had similar problems trying to get freddie to drink water from a cup. He has a tommy tippee cup with spout which i produce at meal times now and he seems to quite like, he often reaches for it, and knows to put the spout in his mouth. But he does sort of chew on it rather than suck, and doesn't seemto like the taste of the water, which generally dribbles straight out of his mouth again . I think we'll just sort of pursevere with what we're doing though, and fingers crossed (i do that a lot don't i?) he'll get it eventually.

Rgee another tooth! Wow. I'm quite jealous. Freddie has no teeth. Rubbish!

Hmm - about pre and probiotics. I did a little project on these a long time ago (so things may have changed since) but at the time they were recommended to avoid/treat diarrhoe in children and adults but not in infants or the elderly. This is because these people are much more prone to overgrowths of bacteria - and "friendly" bacteria can overgrow and cause infection (rather than colonisation which is what you're after otherwise - if your gut is lined with "friendly bugs then there's no space for nasties to grow, plus other stuff I won't bore you with now!!) the same way "unfriendly" bugs can. They are less likely to than "unfriendly" bugs, but it can still happen in the vulnerable (v old or v young). But I see you can now get baby pre- and pro-biotics so maybe the advice has changed in the last few years. At any rate, that's maybe what your GP was thinking of, MrsGP.

And as far as choking is concerned, v scary, but as a medium-term user of MN can I just let everyone know something I was totally unaware of until I started using MN - always cut grapes in half (if you give them at all - obv later on, not now!). They kill afew kids every year, they are the right size to get lodged in babies windpipes, and apparently there's something about the skin that makes them sticky when lodged and really difficult to get moving

Jodie - we eat Yeo valley too, much less scary ingredients! And much tastier IMO, find petit filous taste artificial in comparison.

Loosh I can imagine you mum's horror!! But (as a medium-term MN user, lol!) there are a few threads on MN about how peopel have been told by SCBU that sterilising is not necessary, far better to wash thoroughly in hot water. Besides, at this age, what's the point given what else they're shoving in their gobs (reminds me, really should clean the toys sometime ). 'sgood for the immune system a bit of dirt . Good tip about letting them drink from your glass too, even at 2yo ds1 still seems to think things taste better from our plates/cups, it's amazing what you can get them to consume this way!)

MrsC - aspartame is supposed to be carcinogenic, never give anything containing it to ds1, would rather they had sugar. Sadly, I love the taste of it myself and would drink diet coke til the cows came home ....dammit - this note pad idea is fine, but every time I type something, I scroll up a bit and find someone else has already typed the same thing!!

DH - I'm on facebook, and need lots of friends since I seem to have far fewer than everyone else (only 7 so far )

Right, off for a walk in the pissing rain, the things we do to amuse the kids

2Happy · 01/07/2007 10:29

Morning, Shimmer! Happy 1st July to you too! But ds2 isn't even 5m old yet !

LadyTophamHatt · 01/07/2007 10:33

we go on holiday, in a tent(fgs...what was i thinking) at the end of this month so sterizing G's stuff will stop then.
seems abit pintless even now TBH

eandh · 01/07/2007 12:18

I stopped sterilising a few weeks ago as everything and anything goes into Hattie's mouth so it seemed pointless, about once a week I'll give the bottles and teats an extra long soak in boiling hot water but apart from that the steriliser is now redundant.

You are all going to piss yourselves laughing ELC have a good sale on at the mo and I have just been and bought all the children we have to buy for (and got some bits for e and h) for Christmas, got loads of stuff with 50-75% off so have saved a fortune and they all have nice presents I think each payday from now I'll get some of the adults presents (most people get vouchers) and then when I get my Christmas Club saving money from my mum we'll have £600 to spend on something we need/want

MrsGolfPro · 01/07/2007 13:02

Guten Morgan mein damen feeling all multi cultural today

PUT OUT THE FAGS ANY OF YOU SMOKING OUT THERE. Thank god it has finally been banned. Yey! No more stinky clothes on nights out (erm...hang on....what is a night out???)

I am on Facebook and now have two addictions to contend with - MN and Facebook. Not good. Put down the computer and step away MrsGP...

Nothing interesting to report, DH is sat next to me reading as I type which is really FRIGGING ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PMSL - he has buggered off into the kitchen now. We have just been to B&Q to buy coving for him to put up - could be interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sterilising - I am gonna sterlise till 1 year only bottles cos of the milk but I never sterilise anything else. Dummies get done once a week. Hey - I only just realised that you are supposed to change dummy size every three months. Just been out to buy some 6-12 month ones. I was looking on eBay and a woman was selling 10 USED dummies. Gross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MrsGolfPro · 01/07/2007 13:03

BTW - you have scared me about the aspartame shit. What squash is safe to drink??? Squash is almost as big an addiction for me as MN......

LadyTophamHatt · 01/07/2007 13:14

avoid anything that says suger free, no added sugar, low sugar.

The "high juice" stuff is usually aspartamine free.

Really wilkie, its bad ba bad bad stuff.
Makes Ds1 going utterly nuts too.

LadyTophamHatt · 01/07/2007 13:22

its scred me too mrsGp, I 'm now quite fanatical about reading the labels.....

laughalot · 01/07/2007 13:23

Hi everyone hope you are all ok. I had a terrible day yesterday my mum and dad were at Glasgow airport when the terrorist attack happened I was so upset when my mum rang as she was really shuck [sp] up, they are fine thank goodness. I shouldnt say this but im going to I wish they would go back to there own country and blow people up. Its really scary my dads friend died in the london bomb attacks a few years ago its getting worse.

theUrbanDryad · 01/07/2007 16:02

well i got a lie in this morning too - but that was cause i was out last night, to smoke my last fag in a public place! we had the IL's over for lunch today and had my godchildren all day yesterday, so we're both exhausted!

MrsGolfPro · 01/07/2007 19:19

Just uploaded my Pixifoto pics to profile - really pleased with them

theUrbanDryad · 01/07/2007 19:30
