eandh · 30/06/2007 18:52

been on here 5 times today to post and kept getting distracted!!

Not much happening here DH got up with the girls this monring (they were both asleep by 6pm last night so were up at 5.30am!!) and I laid in till 7.30 (very long lay in for me ) and he even managed to feed them and wash up hurrah its only taken nearly 3 years to do it but now he has done it he'll be able to do it again [smle]

E and H in bed and my brother,gf and son coing round for huge chinese as its my brothers 30th birthday today, have been starving myself all day in preperation

Hope everyone has a lovely night

Shimmer · 30/06/2007 18:54

Very jealous of all this sleeping in
Freddie and I have been up at 6 every day this week. Last week he was sleeping til somewhere between 7-8, so don't know why the early starts recently. I've given up trying to figure him out.

I second the thumbs up for the Organix carrot sticks MrsGP. Freddie loves them. And he's had their apple rice cakes as well which went down well. Why do you think they say from 7 months on the packets though?
I gave him a petits filous this afternoon (cos i saw them on buy 1 get 1 free in Sainsburies and they say from 4-6 months on them, which I didn't know...) which he absolutely LOVED as well.

Ohhhhh... the little man knows i'm late with his bath and is getting cranky.... back later.....

MrsGolfPro · 30/06/2007 20:11

Shimmer - not sure about the 7 month thing as they don't contain wheat/gluten. Maybe a H&S warning as it is finger food i.e. risk of choking??

BLWers - I am not doing BLW but do give J finger food. Gave him a bit wedge of cucumber today which he loved but kept sucking it right into his mouth and I got concerned about choking. How do you combat this (if at all...??)

Dragonhart · 30/06/2007 20:17

I had a lie in too . Paying for it now though as DH has gone out for a stag doo.

Chinese was really good, nice to be all together too. Hopefully my dad will be about more now.

SIL rang today to say that she is getting engaged to her boyfriend. Dont really know how to feel about it as I dont really like the bloke and she has told me some pretty horrible things about him over the 2 years they have been together. Sad really because I get on so well with my BIL (dsis DH) and my brother's girlfriend so it makes get togethers really fun. SIL dp is the kind of bloke I would not like to be left with on my own or Luke or Ruth to be so feel kind of sad. Guess you just have to accept these things. Nothing we can do about it if she wants to get engaged!

As on my own eating cheese and biscuits for tea (mmmm stilton) and then having cream cakes and strawberries, merangue (sp?) and cream for pudding. Sooooooo healthy!

Rgee- Glad you are back! Sounds like you had fun. Will sort some pics but we didnt take many so waiting for people to send us some.

EAH- Books sound great! Luke loves dinosaurs and pirates too. Happy bday to your brother!

2happy- at the bad sleeping. Hope it sorts itself out quick.

Sorry MrsGolf- Your gp is talking bollocks. My dsis has a problem with her bowel and her consultant says that when ever you have a tummy upset/take abs or just if you are feeling low you should take probiotics (he is a really high up consultant as she is quite poorly with it). He also says to eat prebiotics which feed the probiotics like bananas and onions. Scary how stupidly il informed some gps/midwives/hv are!

at your centerparks holiday. I want to go one one but instead will be spending a week at the ILs!

Rgee- I got the cheap bruin one from babiesrus and it is ace! Similar to the mothercare one but at the time it was on offer where you got the raincover and hood free with it for £30!

Trixy - GLad ds is sleeping better again. And at the 2.5% hydrocortisone! My gp gave Luke a 0.5% and he was 18months and he said to use it very sparingly as it was so strong!

Shimmer- I think they are extra careful about the age groups for these thing cos of things like allergies and stuff. I wouldnt worry.

JodieG1 · 30/06/2007 20:19

Shimmer - I used to get the petit filous and then recently looked at the ingredients and was full of crap and e numbers so I've been getting the yeo valley organic yoghurts instead. Not sure what age they are from though. Ethan is always up at about 5-6 am really but as ds1 is usually up at about the same time it doesn't really matter lol.

Mrsgp - I must admit to being worried about this myself actually now we've actually started weaning. Ethan has been fine with the oat cakes and rice cakes but I tried some cucumber today too and he sucked it right it which worried me so I fished it out and held it so he could chew it without it going all the way in. I'm sure he would have been fine but I just couldn't leave him with it. Think I'll be sticking with softer foods like brocolli for a little while until I'm more used to it. He has gagged a couple of times and my heart has been in my throat when he's done it. I'm so worried and it keeps bringing back memories of a little girl who died at the nursery next to dd's school (a mile up the road) that died a couple of years ago eating a piece of apple. She choked and the staff doing resus didn't work. I'm really paranoid actually do I'm going to be very careful over what I give him.

Dragonhart · 30/06/2007 20:20

I'd say that cucumber was a bit hard imo MrsGolf. Dont think I gave LUke cucumber to chew on til he had afew teeth. Stand to be corrected though!

JodieG1 · 30/06/2007 20:23

Forgot to say that our oven has broken! Seems like it's the element and have someone coming out Monday 10am. Had to get a takeaway for dinner and not sure how I'm going to do the roast tomorrow I was doing chicken breasts which I can grill, steamed veg, hoping to use the oven part of microwave to do the roast potatoes but won't be able to cook the yorkshire puddings as well as they usually take 20-25 mins and not enough room for them and the potatoes in the microwave. Thinking of going out somewhere for a roast instead and then cooking one through the week. Oven is only 2 and half ish years old too.

JodieG1 · 30/06/2007 20:25

I cut about 2 inches off the cucumber and then cut that in half and half again, maybe another half as well. Also cut the skin off. Might just cut the skin off first next time and then cut round slithers off instead of chip shapes.

looshkin · 30/06/2007 20:28

Evening all,

back out of my lurking closet just for the night - at the in laws house ds tucked away in cot with far too many stuffed toys to wrestle with and red wine flowing so feeling gooood.

Waves 2Happy glad about the BFP as I nearly did have a heart attack - hope the nights get better with ds2 I have to say that starting weaning with mine has made rock all difference to his sleep still up at least twice but settles after a quick feed so not too broken a sleep infact the cats keep us up more now with their antics.

Rgee - no I have not been to the hydro pool is it good? Can you just go along - I have taken him to a regular pool but he went a bit purple/blue after 10mins

UD thanks for asking after me, doing OK. By the way I was supporting your breast feeding march to London and also signed the manifesto glad you did not get arrested though

LTH babes very cute indeed

eandh glad to hear that you are dong better with preschool/school I am not looking forward to nursery later in the year.

Shimmer - I feel the same re gagging/chocking I am doing a mixture of karmelising and BLWing my baby he is great with purees and tends to lick bigger chunks of food and wave tham around then pound them into the highchair which is luverly - banana is indeed indelible (sp?)

Mrs GP lol re cats my ds is always making a grab for them but they do make the mistake of thinking he is a cushion and sit on him - I say it is all good for the immune system as my mother looks on in horror - also she was v shocked today to learn I don't sterilise anything either and have not done for quite some time, i now use my microwave steriliser to steam carrot batons to within in an inch of their lives!!!!! great tip from the BLW web site which i can recommend.

Sorry to all those I have missed a bit rubbish at this posting malarky as get nervous i will accidently start a fight (not that the jan ladies would of course) as mumsnet can all of a suuden go pearshaped without much provocation.

Back to the wine have a good weekend all

loosh.

Dragonhart · 30/06/2007 20:31

Are any of you 'Helen' on MSN?

looshkin · 30/06/2007 20:47

JodieG1 - i know 2happy recommends the yeo valley yogs as well i am going to give them a try next week - I have been using the danone ones which someone told me was made from formula so OK in under 6 monthers and ds seems to like them OK.

By the way anyone got any top tips on how to get a 6month old (well nearly) to drink water - he is still fully breast fed but I was hoping to start to introduce water as part of weaning have tried tommy tippe x2 cups one with spout one with teat - just chewed them, doidy cup - water everywhere except in mouth and a magmag cup with teat again just chewed and then magmag with straw which seemed to get the water in but then feel out again as he was so suprised that water came out of the tube!!!! Is it just that he is not ready???

MrsGolfPro · 30/06/2007 21:07

Loosh - what did you do to start a fight??? I managed that with an innocent comment - Jan thread trait maybe????

JodieG1 · 30/06/2007 21:11

Loosh - I use a normal plastic cup, it does surprise him but he manages to drink some water from it. I think they do get used to it so it's good to try things again.

MrsGolfPro · 30/06/2007 21:12

Loosh - J drinks from my glass!!

JodieG1 · 30/06/2007 21:26

hehe Ethan does that too actually, when I drink he tries to grab it so I let him and he sips some, water only though

MrsGolfPro · 30/06/2007 21:26

Robinsons No Added Sugar for J. [bad mother]

MrsCarrot · 30/06/2007 21:27

Eww, you don't like that do you

MrsCarrot · 30/06/2007 21:29

Apparently there is a whole spoon of sugar in each petit filous. My friends mum told me off for feeding them to ds1 once, when I was staying there, she got out lettuce soup instead!

What do you all think about whether sugar or sweeteners are better, are you sugar free calpol or not?

MrsGolfPro · 30/06/2007 21:31

Sugar-free calpol.

TBH, I'm not a massive food snob. I think everything in moderation is absolutely fine. Petit Filous are fine although J doesn't like it.

Yes I LUUUURRRRVVEEE Robinsons NAS, drank a two litre bottle when in labour...

JodieG1 · 30/06/2007 21:33

Mrsgp - step away from the aspartame hehe

MrsCarrot · 30/06/2007 21:36

I guess I like my sugar

Does that mean you would drink diet coke too? I only fancy a fat coke about once every summer with all its 5000 calories, then I don't fancy it again for ages.

MrsGolfPro · 30/06/2007 21:39

Surely aspartame is better than sugar though?? Full fat coke - bleurgh - diet only.

MrsC - why aren't you on MSN?

JodieG1 · 30/06/2007 21:41

Well aspartame causes cancer, google it, apparantely so real sugar is better. Either way it's an artificial sweetner, not great.

MrsCarrot · 30/06/2007 21:41

Am I not?

MrsCarrot · 30/06/2007 21:41

oh, now I am
