Londoner · 24/07/2007 09:35

Hello girls, Just dropping in v.quickly but suddenly worried about Feetheart and the flooding, we haven't heard from you in a while - hoping you're okay Feety?
Have lovely day all!

ChaCha · 24/07/2007 10:32

With you on the babyrice, we haven't touched it this time. He had a wee infection on return from hols and had a very sore bottom as a result so I've not started on any fruit yet, but he is really enjoying carrot, parsnip, sweet potato etc.. Had to laugh when reading AK again and the 'one or two spoons at first' - he nearly chewed my arm off - a whole pot for this one, very unlike DS1. How many times a day do you feed him Nova? I'm on three at the moment but not sure what to give inbetween - always ready to eat!

We are still away from home, I have come online to check that the road is open so that we can get picked up - hopefully so! DS1 awake from midnight till two last night looking at flower print on bed shouting 'oh no' and then pointing at various objects in room 'oh no, all done, not nice' - would not go back to sleep and woke DS2 who was sleeping like a log - nightmare maybe? Unfamiliarity? Mum heard the noise and took him into her room where he fell straight to sleep until the morning (by which time DS2 was ready for a good old play!)

I am looking forward to seeing your pics girls, will do so when i get home.

Very impressed with monitored TV/computer time - no TV here at all, mum has no need/time for and DS1 can definitely entertain himself without it... must find out what happened to Stella though, lol x

GreedyGecko · 24/07/2007 16:18

Hi all, just a quickie. Been away for a bit whilst laptop was being fixed. Having a right old nightmare here, if anything can go wrong, trust me it can. Things come in threes? Oh no! I think we're at 6 now in the space of a fortnight.

Beks, yes, was only thinking this morning that we should get together.

at all the floods, ChaCha, hope you get home, Brownie, hope you've not been affected at home. Having no computer I've not seen any of this (don't watch news although sky news has been on constantly yesterday & today - a morbid fasciantion from us both I think). Had heard of the floods on radio, but tbh though they were overreacting/exaggerating it as we have had proper summer weather for the last fortnight, except for a bit of rain yesterday. Sorry.

Have been keeping up with all your news though on my mibile. I really do need to get a life, obsessed with this MN lark!

ChaCha · 24/07/2007 21:49

Oh well, main roads still closed, hopefully DH can take alternative route (long and out of way) as it's his b'day Thursday and do not want to be away. Do you think it's a good idea to make him a b'day dinner tomorrow night, sort of a surprise while mum puts the kids to bed etc. Won't have that luxury at home and thought if he was picking me up tomorrow night (fingers crossed) could have the dining room all prepared and in birthday mode...would you be annoyed if someone did ths the night before your b'day...of course for us mums think we'd be happy the week before!!! Would you wait till the morning to give cards though?

Hi GG - sounds like you're having a spot of bad luck (or big patch should i say?) What's up? Hi to all x

novadandypowder · 25/07/2007 10:14

I think it the birthday surprise sounds lovely chacha, especially if he's had a tricky journey getting to you. It's a bit of a luxury nowadays to actually celebrate on your actual birthday so don't worry too much about the timing. I would wait until the actual day for cards and presents though. I don't know about you but my birthday just hasn't felt the same since having children - I no longer have the sense of excitement and fun that I used to

ChaCha · 25/07/2007 13:51

Thanks Nova - Have gotten everything i need now including dessert so will start preparing later this afternoon, hope he likes it! Our Wedding anniversary is just a few days away as well - will hope that he makes the initiative this year

What's everyone else doing? Not really a great start to school holidays with this constant rain but I did read a lovely article in the Telegraph yesterday about things to do with your kids indoors when the weather isn't great - lovely!

Another awful AF here so am going to lie down while i have this wonderful opportunity - am milking it!!

x

Beksmum · 26/07/2007 10:48

Hi ya

Chacha hope you had a nice evening last night and that dh appreciated all your efforts and that he enjoys his b'day today. I thought that was a really nice idea cooking for him like that. It's not often these days that you both get to eat a hot meal at the same time is it? Hope you manage to get home soon too.

Nova I'm with you on b'days and christmas now, I love it for the kids but for myself all the excitement seems to have gone - don't know why, note to myself must make more effort

GG I'll text you with some dates, don't have a lot free now till end of August Have been very organised about filling my time to stop myself going nuts

Right am being very lazy this morning, really should be getting on with the house as had a friend coming over today but B was sick last night so have put her off as she's 21 weeks pregnant and has a daughter who's nearly 3 so a sick bug would not go down well.

Hope everyone is enjoying the hols, speak soon Beks

Rodeo · 26/07/2007 13:12

Hi!
Rain's back Though I did hear next week will be 'drier and warmer'! Though I might try and find that article Chacha I'm sure you're all coping though, we are - just! Waiting for a break in the rain to do the horse, don't think I'll be riding though!
How did birthday meal go Chacha? What did you have? Any nice recipes? Swapped a few teatime recipes with friends the other day which was good - I always seem to get in a teatime rut, spag bol, baked potatoes, fish & rice....Anyway, glad you & Nova are both opposed to babyrice! I hated it too And does anyone have those plain baby rice cakes? Sorry but they're just as bad - a friend had them the other day and I thought one of the toddlers had filled their nappy!
How you doing with the house Beks?!
Did anyone watch Heroes last night? Think it will be my new TV addiction, I thought it was great!
TV ban is slipping a bit, must stay strong!

OP posts:
Beksmum · 26/07/2007 19:13

Hi Rodeo, yep we watched Heroes, thought it was good, think it will become a wednesday night feature in our house too!

Did diddly squat to the house as the kids were drving me mental, so took them to the park for an hour or so, got soaked coming back and T decided that 4pm was a good time for a nap - arrgghhh. His sleep are all over the place at the moment and of course a late sleep means a late night.

Have got rid of B for the night though as he's gone for a sleepover at his best friends house, only in the next road, but very exciting for him as he's only ever stayed at my brothers once before.

We're supposed to be camping in a mates back garden tomorrow night, not my style in the slightest so hopefully a night away will mean I get out of that one tomorrow as he should be too tired and grumpy!!!

Right best go and show an interest in the other rugrat. Speak to you all soon Beks

BrownieBells · 26/07/2007 20:18

Hello All! Well, more rain here has meant more flood alerts How ya doin Chacha? Still as bad for you? Meal sounds fab by the way -hope dh appreicated it.

Well, my dh actually listened to me today when the flood warnings started - I text him to tell him to leave work to make sure he could get hom.....adn......he actually did leave when I told him too!!! (unlike last Friday when he didn't bother and then paid the price!)

T has had a stinker of a cold recently - high temp and everything....but thankfully seems fine now.
His speech is really progressing now, and he can recognise the colour green (geen!!) I love him loads and think he is great!

Keep trying to decide whether I want another baby - quite like the idea of carrying it, giving birth and so on - but just don't know whether I can be doing with the hassle and the sleepless nights - and also, not sure where I'd put another one!!!!???? But - we'll see.

Hope everyone else is doing ok? Rodeo, how are things over there?
Are we still planning a Strat meet up this year? I am quite busy till Mid September onwards (I know - it is totally ridiculous!!)but am SUCH a socialite (not!)

GG hope all is progressing as it should be in your kitchen and so on.

Nova - glad all is well with you guys too.

Really must get on to yahoo to look at any new piccies - oh and must try and upload some more of ours too.

Right dh is itching to get on the pc....

Brownie

novadandypowder · 26/07/2007 22:04

BB - I'm sooo much happier and contented with two babies. The sleepless nights seem bareable because you know from experience that it won't last forever, the routines are easier to put in place because you've had practice, and seeing the interaction between the two of them is such a joy.

Noo has taken to telling off miniman and wagging her finger at him when he kicks her in the bath, it's so funny.

Rodeo - lol at rice cakes smelling of poo, they taste like it too .

GreedyGecko · 27/07/2007 23:25

Beks will email/text you my mob number as I'm not sure if you have my new one.

I'm getting so excited now. This time next week I'll be zonked out in my bed at Disneyland. I'm just like a big kid I really am. I'm bad enough at Alton Towers, I'll probably start screaming if I see Buzz LIghtyear!

Whats gone wrong here? Hmm let me see, in no particular order:

  • plasterer (next door neighbours son) hernia ruptured
  • Mickey Mouse pushchair broke, major ruck with manufacturers, now have just given in and spent lots on a McLaren
  • Laptop broke
  • DP still off on the sick. Really doing my head in now, he's worse than the boys put together!
  • DPs back went completely a couple of weeks ago. Out of hours doc was useless, so had to call ambulance he went through 2.5 bottles of g&a while they moved him.
  • Car broke down. Cost us £150 just cos some idiot had put the wrong ht leads on
  • DP got food poisoning from a dodgy kebab
  • All new plasterers that we try to get round for quotes don't bother to turn up. Where do you find a reliable tradesman?
  • The building work has got the little mouseys out! Mouse & rat poison all over the house
  • Major falling out with one of my 'best friends' because she's told me to dump DP because he's disabled

On the plus side....it's only a week til I go to Disneyland! Yes you'll get bored with me wittering on about it all the time.
My mum & dad are having the boys regularly now, pretty much every weekend, and she wants them to stay for a few days in the hols too. And she's enjoying it! Just such a shame it's taken her this long to realise it.

Have you managed to get back home yet ChaCha? How was the birthday dinner? Brownie how are things in your neck of the woods?

ChaCha · 28/07/2007 23:42

Second Nova on the babies front - tis so true!

Had a look at Y when home, fantastic pics ladies, all kids just adorable, enjoyed looking at them, will try to upload ours tomorrow.

GG - Definitely deserve a holiday with all that going on Hope your DP is okay and remember it takes a special woman to do what you are doing - as for your friend - sometimes we can be guilty of saying the wrong thing without realising it until later, perhaps she thought at the time that she was helping, dumb i know, but if she is your best friend maybe worth telling her how you feel and that you expect a bit of support - if your friendship means anything to her it will be forgive and forget otherwise her loss!

I took DC to Jamboray today, exhausting but worth the early night. A little kid approaches us up at the top of the big slide and says 'I'm gonna be his worst nightmare' Can you believe it? Totally unprovoked! I replied with, 'but he's just a baby, he needs protecting and taking care of' and he says 'I will, he can come with me' and off DS went running after this kid who then did not leave my side! Was v.adult like - scary! I posted recently about Ds's over affectionate nature, he constantly cuddles/kisses total strangers (kids) and often gets pushed in return which kills me. Yesterday in the park he cuddled a little kid and he gave him a cuddle back and they held hands on the bridge thingy...at last! Am hoping he'll grow out of it though even though i love it.
Ramble, ramble....v.tired...

Thanks for all asking bout b'day dinner. He appreciated it but was too tired to be bothered really. Had driven outside the city for work and back and then the distance to me and was shattered and had lots of work still to do, wasn't really in party mode IKWIM - this is life these days.

Few more days and it will be update time again - can you believe?

Thanks for the ramble!

ChaCha · 29/07/2007 17:57

Twinkle - Hi there. We have just returned from Turkey, Fethiye area, also in the South. Beautiful country, beautiful people, very friendly/helpful and love children! Our villa was quite secluded so i took lots of nappies and wipes just in case i couldn't find any decent ones, I'm sure a busy resort area like Marmaris will be full of them in the shops. We took:

  • All the usual Jungle Formula, Sun Tan Lotion Sprays, Mosquito Plug-In's (even used them in a 5*Hotel in Antalya!), antiseptic lotion/wipes, sterlising tablets, i was glad to have remembered sleepsuits/PJs because air-conditioned rooms can get cold!

Fun stuff: - One of those jackets you can put on J in the water so he can float, my DS loved it, thought he was great. Ahhh...DS2 awake, post again hth

Rodeo · 29/07/2007 21:41

Evening!
Hope everybody is enjoying the sunshine! Apparently the rain was all the fault of Rhianna, she's been number 1 with that blooming Umbrella song for 10 weeks
Ooh Twinkle, hols sound lovely, I was scouring lastminute.com last week for exactly the same reason! Who did you book with?

OP posts:
GreedyGecko · 30/07/2007 08:43

Rodeo, J looks so grown up.

Unfortunately with my 'friend' it wasn't a slip of the tongue. She was the same when he was in hospital, was very unsupportive, wouldn't look after O for me, while all our other friends were being brilliant with helping me out, felt I should finish it with DP then, and I shouldn't be visiting him in hospital and shouldn't be taking him to hospital appointments. As you can imagine I didn't speak to her for some time then, although thought maybe as she is younger, and not in a relationship maybe she didn't understand about standing by someone/looking after someone that you love. Back to now, I found out her mum (who has met DP once) thinks he is 'a bum' and 'friend' thinks he is lazy. I suppose if they had a fork lift truck driven through their leg, they'd be up on their feet the next day, back at work. Apparently it 'shouldn't be up to me to have to pick up the pieces'. OK, so obviously when he's ill/injured I should just forget about him. What about 'in sickness & in health'? OK, so we're not married, but as good as. Sorry, big old rant there, but just needed to vent at someone, and obviously can't do so to DP.

On a brighter note, only 4 more days to go!

twinkle1 · 30/07/2007 09:06

Morning all,

Diege · 30/07/2007 12:02

Hello! We're back!! Haven't had a chance to catch up yet, but wanted to 'pop in' . Had a great time - not at all restful of course, but great to all be together, and the girls had a ball. Will post again later when I've read through!

Rodeo · 30/07/2007 15:29

Afternoon,
Hi Diege! Glad you all had a fab time! Sounds great, looking forward to news
GG, just try to ignore it, sorry it's upsetting you so much you vent all you like! 4 days? !
Have promised the children a bike ride so better go and round them up, speak later x

OP posts:
Londoner · 30/07/2007 18:51

Hello everyone!

Welcome home Diege, looking forward to hearing all your holiday news.
GG - can echo everyone else's good advice. Hang in there soon you'll be in the land of dreams and fantasy.
Rodeo, that sounds like the perfect Sunday to me, bliss! Hope you had a good bike ride this afternoon?
BB, agree with ChaCha and Nova that it's so wonderful to watch your children play, the pleasure and satisfaction far outweighs the extra work imo... also, you're already cooking meals at certain times of the day/getting up early at weekends/ doing extra washing etc, I found it made more sense to be going to all that effort for more than one. Try and follow your instincts if you can and remember there's no hurry if you do decide you'd like another it doesn't necessarily mean you have to go for it straight away.
ChaCha at the kid at Jamboree place, am amazed at your patience in turning the situation round, wow, will you go back d'you think? Have you managed to get back home yet?
Nova, lol at Noo wagging her finger at Miniman.
Feetheart, hope you're okay?
Twinkle - bargain holiday, sounds amazing!
Our update-
Baby's talking has reached ridiculous levels now and she wanders off whereever we go chatting away to other families although she does tend to target groups of teenagers esp those with phones. She creates her own sentences and can really hold her own - we generally get a running commentary on life as it happens- can be utterly gripping -"you're taking the poo off my botty' etc. Her favourite game is chase and she shouts 'come and get me' when she wants to play. She is very loud and loves a joke. She is quite rubbish at eating meals at the table. She still wakes up at least once a night at the moment- I think she's teething -and sometimes still comes into our bed as she does that old trick of being fast asleep until I try and leave the room [yawn].
Right, got to go, tired baby alert.
Have good evenings all.

Londoner · 30/07/2007 19:12

Gorgeous pics Rodeo! Is that a Dora t-shirt in the blowing x's shot? So sweet, you did say J has been a big fan since she was quite tiny, bet she loves it!
