A new thread for us all

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

He went to work before and returned after me.

He thought I was doing the usual - which in his mind is meeting other mums for coffee and a chat.

accessorizewithbabysick · 01/07/2007 08:41

Margo
DP will know about my returning to work as there will be floods of tears! DS2 having some nursery trials but I suspect he's going to scream his head off & I don't know how to deal with that.
Olihan, I use a pouch sling for hip carries and it's really comfy, wish I'd had one with ds1. I think there's a mei tai style one that looks good too ellaroo
We have a framed carrier, but selling it to buy an ergo, virtually never used it last time but then we're not exactly big walkers!

jabberwocky · 01/07/2007 13:25

margo, lol at your dh!

I have started using a pouch sling as well. I love it. It's a hotsling - unbleached, organic hemp. Also started using my G diapers yesterday

Indith · 01/07/2007 15:59

Who me? What did I do?

I acquired a ring sling fairly recently to add to my wrap and it is great for hip carries. Even better is that as it is more adjustable than a pouch dp can use it too. More surprisingly is that he actually does, out of choice!

accessorizewithbabysick · 01/07/2007 20:27

Ooh, I've got a hotsling too jabber (sweetpea designer, ds2 looks gorgeous in it!). How're the diapers going?
Indith, how many slings is that now??

accessorizewithbabysick · 01/07/2007 20:28

dp tried to put my pouch sling on last weekend, was quite hilarious with him wearing flowery green thing round the wrong way, he would not be told. just ordered an ergo for him, hope it comes before our marathon trip to scotland in 6 days. haven't even made a list yet, arrgggh!

babypowder · 01/07/2007 21:05

AQ, all you really need for a trip north of the border just now is waterproofs. I am so bored of this cold, damp, miserable summer

babypowder · 01/07/2007 21:19

Oh dear, VisitScotland will no doubt take issue with my last post. If its any consolation, we sat by a river in a deserted glen this afternoon cooking sausages on a camp stove, and it was fantastic. It was really misty, and a little cool, but very evocative.

And we even managed to eat supper outside, too, as the sun broke through the clouds for 30 mins or so.

It's not all bad

I'm just a grumpy cow.

Indith · 01/07/2007 21:49

BP am Tis my mission to live in the deepest darkest depths of the countryside somewhere and have rivers to picnic by and many places to have impromptu fires.

Obviously this will have to come with nice easy access to a fairly decently sized market town. Don't ask for much me

AQ, only 2! I'm not nearly as addicted to slings as you are nappies

jabberwocky · 02/07/2007 01:47

Okay, I'll admit it - I'm addicted to baby carriers. I've got 3 ring slings, a wrap, a baby bjorn and now my new pouch. I think there's another winter pouch in the attic.

Diapers are going pretty well. I can see now the addiction to cute covers the rest of you have. We'll see if I make the transition to total cloth or stick with the G diaper thing. Ds2 looked so cute in them I left his shorts off after changing him this morning.

GlassSlipper · 02/07/2007 07:39

ok, baby carrier experts. I have a very stiff & painful neck at the moment. Partly down to sleeping position but I think baby glass is adding to the strain. what would you recommend?

babypowder · 02/07/2007 10:10

A framed back carrier works for me. I have soft-tissue damage in my neck and shoulders following a nasty car accident, but I find that DD2's weight is so well distributed that it puts no strain on me at all.

accessorizewithbabysick · 02/07/2007 11:46

gs, sorry to hear that. I wouldn't suggest a pouch, probably put more stress on the area. Do you want something for just jobs in the house etc? I would have thought a ring or a wrap but jabber and indith clearly the experts!

Indith · 02/07/2007 11:55

Would stick to things that go over both shoulders like a wrap, soft carrier or a framed carrier.

Getting the bus into town soon AQ, can't decide if I need sunscreen or industrial strength waterproofs given the colour of the sky!

SachaF · 02/07/2007 12:54

Make sure you try out a backpack before you buy - dh wanted me to buy one over the internet, I delayed and found a shop to try it on in - good thing as my back ended up completely arched in it! So gotta look again (do have an old karrimor which is comfy but no storage/raincover/suncover/pillow/nice stuff!)
Newborns are lovely! lots of hugs with my 2/3/4day old nephew over the weekend

SachaF · 02/07/2007 13:04

Oh and I really wanted to use disposable nappies this weekend but dh insisted it wasn't that difficult to take the washables (we always have before). Of course I had to do all (bar 1) changes and organising of stuff and am the one now doing the laundry so we have clean nappies on top of all other household tasks that didn't get done this weekend (or the last 3).

castlesintheair · 02/07/2007 16:24

Hi everyone, just checking in briefly & no time to read so apologies if I've missed anything exciting! Passed out on Saturday morning holding DD2. Came round 10 minutes later & was still clutching her Exhaustion, low blood pressure, anxiety/stress ... the usual list and nothing they can do. Guess I will just have to get up really late to avoid this happening again, as it always happens early in the morning

SachaF · 02/07/2007 17:48

Oh my gosh Castles! Thank goodness dd2 was okay by the sounds of it. Why don't you ask the homestart people for a helping hand? Volunteers can come round and help out for an hour or two a week, to give you a bit of a break. homestart

SachaF · 02/07/2007 17:50

btw, did you find a childminder?

Indith · 02/07/2007 18:44

Gosh Castles! Scary!

AQ is magic, it is the only answer. Ds, the baby who really has to get to know people before he puts up with being held by them, merrily sat on her lap, grinning and playing while I ate my cake

The move part 1b tomorrow, sure I'll be on later as I attempt to avoid killing a parent or 2 but just in case, see you all when I get internet sorted in Leeds!

jabberwocky · 02/07/2007 19:50

OMG castles! So glad you were both okay.

Glassy, I second a carrier that goes over the shoulders. Baby bjorn would be okay but a wrap is probably the best for that situation. They are a little daunting at first but then it's dead easy to tie after you do it a few times.

accessorizewithbabysick · 02/07/2007 21:23

castles, omg, how are you now? Can't dh do some night/early morning stuff for you this weekend to give you a break??? thinking of you

indith, glad i could be of service, we all need all the cake we can get! enjoyed mine Backpack btw is Vaude Jolly Light in bright red.

Indith · 02/07/2007 21:30

It was good cake

Backpack looks good. Hmmm, I shall try to get into Leeds to try one on I think. How much would you be wanting for it?

Currently listening to I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue on replay instead of combing the house for baby stuff and re-packing my bag.

babypowder · 02/07/2007 22:27

Castles, what a shock for you So glad you're alright. I wish I had something constructive to add.

AQ, VVV at the backpack. Mine is just so antiquated. But he, it does what it says on the tin, just with that air of early nineties about it!

Good luck, Indith! we'll miss you while you're away.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 02/07/2007 23:46

OOh I like the ellaroo one...hmm I may have to get the wallet out and buy one!
